The 2019 TNYC Lobster Boil will take place at the TNYC clubhouse on Saturday, June 22 at 5:30 (rain, shine or snow). All HMPC members are welcome. This is our most popular social event and is a great opportunity for all boaters in the Holyrood marina to get together to kick off the boating season.

Cost is $25 per person (plus $10 if you want that extra lobster on your plate). Veggie option is $10. Pre-ordering / pre-payment is required.

We can take e-transfers, cheque or cash (e-transfer is preferred). We will need to receive payment before we purchase the food. Sorry, refunds cannot be given after Wednesday, June 19.

The menu consists of potato, garden and pasta salads; steak or lobster; dinner roll; baked potato; dessert; tea and coffee. Each person is responsible for bringing their own alcoholic beverages.

We will also be selling tickets on prize draws, so bring your loonies and toonies. Donations of prizes would be appreciated. All profits go into the TNYC Social Committee.

AN ADDED BONUS: After the dinner, Trevor Giles’ Band will play for us and will open the mic for anybody who wants to entertain the crowd.

As you are aware, there are some repairs required to be at the ready for this date but they have been going well and if work and weather is more or less agreeable, the tentative date will be doable.

There will be an absolute official launch schedule and date announced as soon as we have everything set to go as we don’t want to have any “false starts” – We will release this information as soon as it is firm.
As a rough indicator of who will be going in, when – it will be close to the reverse order of coming out last fall.

Again,not written in stone, yet but we just wanted to be sure folks had some idea to guide their prep.

Also, please remember that all members wishing to maintain their berth for the 2019 season must pay the HMPC capital improvement fee ($750 + HST = $862.50) no later than March 31, 2019. Any member that has not paid by this deadline will lose their berth assignment for the season and it will be assigned to a member on our waiting list. Any member paying this fee directly to HMPC is responsible for providing confirmation of payment to the Treasurer (treasurer@tnyc.ca) prior to March 31. The Treasurer will be accepting cheques at the AGM for those who wish to make payment at that time.

The TNYC Fall General Meeting will be taking place on Sunday November 18th at 2 PM in the TNYC Clubhouse.  Following the meeting, there will be a social.

The Holyrood Marina Park will benefit from a wave of funding from the federal and provincial governments for Phase 3 of a planned expansion project aimed at boosting tourism and economic growth.

A combined $619,550 is being poured into the project, $273,600 of which is federal and $345,950 provincial. The Town of Holyrood will kick in an added $250,000 over 10 years. The money will be used to improve recreational activities at the marina.

Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation Minister Christopher Mitchelmore, along with MP Ken McDonald, area MHA Betty Parsley and Holyrood Deputy Mayor Jim Joy spoke to a small gathering of residents and media Wednesday morning at the town hall about the plans for the marina upgrades.

All of the speakers emphasized that expanding the ocean sector in Holyrood would be beneficial in terms of community growth, job creation and attracting tourism to the town of about 2,500 people.

 Mitchelmore said Holyrood has the potential to be at the forefront of launching new ocean technology and enterprises, as well as becoming a central figure in cold ocean research and innovation for offshore oil and gas, among other industries.

“From significant industrial space to a convenient location near the main campus of Memorial University, to ready access of the Labrador current, as well as experience in major industrial projects, Holyrood is poised to be a leader in the ocean economy,” he said.

 Mitchelmore says the planned expansion will be focused and strategic.

“It’s done in Europe, it’s done in other jurisdictions, and we’re going to capitalize on that,” he said.

 Joy said the marina is an integral part of the town’s infrastructure.

“It plays a vital role in the economic well-being of our town,” he said. “The marina promotes tourism and presents our town as an open, friendly and prosperous place to live, learn, work, play and invest.”
