			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>OLATHE, Kan. &#8212; &#160;Terracon has been awarded the construction materials engineering and testing and Special Inspections services for the Baha Mar Hotel and Casino Resort located in Nassau, The Bahamas. This project expands Terracon&#8217;s international project experience, establishing a project office in The Bahamas for the duration of the project.</p>
<p>Baha Mar will be the largest, single-phase destination resort in the Caribbean, featuring six hotels, the largest casino in the Caribbean, five acres of convention and meeting facilities, three spas, retail village and a Jack Nicklaus golf course.</p>
<p>Terracon&#8217;s work will involve the superstructure core works package, comprised of a podium building, casino hotel tower, convention hotel tower, luxury hotel, lifestyle hotel, central utility plant building and three vehicle bridges.</p>

Terracon, one of the nation&#8217;s largest employee-owned engineering consulting firms, is headquartered in Olathe, Kan.</p>

Smith, P.E., has been appointed to the Transportation Research Board&#8217;s Foundations of Bridges and Other Structures (AFS30) Committee. Smith is a principal and national program manager for transportation at Terracon, working out of the Austin office. She has 25 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and specializes in bridges and transportation projects. Smith has been with Terracon since 2006. She has a master&#8217;s and bachelor&#8217;s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.</p>
<p>The Transportation Research Board (TRB) works to promote innovation and progress in transportation through research. The Foundations of Bridges and Other Structures (AFS30) Committee is concerned with the local and global behavior, stability and interaction of structural foundations, and their supporting materials, for permanent and temporary transportation structures (bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, buildings, overhead signs and other transportation structures).</p>
