Just watched a segment about a man who brings coffee to cancer patients. He’s been doing it for years and has become a much beloved fixture at the treatment center. What small act can you perform that makes a difference? If everyone in the country did one small act a day, that would be 312,988,384 people whose day would be just a little bit better, who would feel a little bit happier and be a little bit more fulfilled because of the small act of kindness they performed themselves. Times that by 360 days and that would be 113 trillion acts of kindness. Your kindness will never be insignificant–no matter how small.

I replied, “I would talk about how big business has lost it’s soul.” Now before you get all upset, obviously, not every business, but in general–yeah. The businesses that are really successful have usually figured out that employees are people. Take Google–plenty of food, day care, exercise equipment, people working days, evenings, nights, hierarchy low, creativity high, productivity, high. Why are they so successful? Besides obvious reasons, it’s that people feel like they count. We all want to feel like we count, like we matter–that we have value. That is the greatest gift an employer can give–and it doesn’t cost–it pays.
