This about sums it up for their point of view - it doesn't matter what you actually DID. What matters is what your INTENT was. It doesn't matter that Obama tanked the economy. He intended well. It doesn't matter that Teddy Kennedy killed a young lady by leaving her to drown. He didn't intend for her to die. Illegal immigrants don't intend to hurt anyone, they're just trying to help out themselves and their own families. And on and on and on. We're presented with another example of liberal intent with Rahm Emanuel's run for Mayor of Chicago. It would appear the law says you actually have to reside in Chicago for a year before you run for Mayor. As we all know, Rahm-baby has been in DC hanging out with el Presidente.... But don't let the law get in the way of liberal Democrats:

But Mr. Emanuel’s campaign, which quickly called a conference call with reporters on Wednesday afternoon, says Mr. Emanuel’s intent was always to return to his home on the North Side of Chicago, and that his intent is what should ultimately define his legal status when these complaints reach elections officials and the courts.

Really?? Intent now defines legal status?? So let's say that I get shit faced drunk and kill someone driving home. But I didn't intend to hurt anyone. Or, I'm cleaning a gun, have an AD and kill my neighbor. Oops, sorry, I didn't intend for that to happen. Do you think that would fly in court??

If Rahm-baby gets in as Mayor of Chicago is will merely solidify Chicago's position as the 2nd most corrupt city in the country, right behind Washington, DC.

Silent no more

I hope the powers that be within the Republican Party are getting the message. The days of supporting "Republicans" who are anti-gun, pro cap and trade, and who vote more with the Democrats than with their conservative base - are over.

We need to get rid of the Olympia Snowes as soon as possible - if they want to side with the Democrats, then by all means, join the Democrat party, like our good "friend" Arlan Specter - but stop torpedoing the country and the people that voted for you just so you can be called bipartisan.

Enough is enough.

Regardless - I sincerely hope the Republican power brokers are paying attention.

Since 9/11/2001

I remember the morning of 9/13/2001 very well. It was the Thursday after the eviscerating attacks of 9/11/2001, and one of the three days a week I go running. I live North and East of DFW airport, due north of Love Field, and just Northwest of Addison airport. Air traffic is common, but hardly noticeable - most aircraft are at altitude.

As I was running through my peaceful neighborhood, it struck me: There were no planes that morning. A single attack had shut down the entire airline industry in the US.

That was my first lucid realization of the changes that would be brought on our world. Today, we willingly subject ourselves to scrutiny at the airport, arriving over an hour in advance of our flights. We dutifully remove our belts and shoes, unpack our briefcases, bag up our little bottles of liquid, and so forth. Screeners randomly pull people from the line for closer scrutiny.

Don't get me started on profiling airplane hijackers.

So what, you might ask? What's so different?

Before 9/11, I used to stop at a convenience store on the way back from Houston once a week, pick up a sandwich and a six pack, then get on the plane and enjoy my dinner on the short flight home. No questions asked, nobody even batted an eye.

Air travel aside, what else has changed? We're at war in Iraq and Afghanistan, pursuing those who would perpetrate such things as the 9/11 attack. We've been largely successful there, save for killing UBL. Our military is the spear tip of our diplomatic efforts, and it's a sharp one.

Our economy has not yet recovered.

But what about ideology? Religion? Tolerance? How has America changed since 9/11?

How much more do you know about Islam now? How much more do you realize that there's been a centuries-old war between Islam and the Western world? Perhaps "war" is a bit strong, because Islam is persistent and patient. Islam will continue to expand where ever it can. Islam's "war" is one of assimilation, acquisition, of subtlety and virtual silence. Muslims are devout and devoted to their cause.

Only the radical schisms of Islam commit outrageous acts of high-profile violence, often to the alleged outrage of more moderate Muslims. Granted, I've seen more outrage in daily traffic, but they profess that this isn't their plan for foisting Islam on the world, and that is largely true.

And what has anyone done to try to stem this tide?

As you reflect on 9/11, reflect on how our world has changed since then. Be careful, though - you're probably not going to like what you see.

Free Speech?

As if hating the Philadelphia Eagles weren't enough, here's another reason to hate on the city of brotherly love:

It looks like cash hungry local governments are getting awfully rapacious these days:

Between her blog and infrequent contributions to ehow.com, over the last few years she says she’s made about $50. However, it's a 2-edged sword. For all the good reconnections you make, there's always one or two that you regret. I try to be the good guy, give them the benefit of the doubt, but every once in a while, you reconnect with the psycho. The guy who was a misfit then, and is a misfit now. Worse, the years have made him delusional, self-important and, well...sad. Sad, that is, until that person crosses the line - check that...leaps over the line and stomps on the line and presumes that the years somehow entitle him to a level of privilege both undeserved and unearned to trample all over that line.

Let's consider one such misfit who I allowed into my circle of friends. I didn't really know the guy that well in high school, but I really tried then (as I do now) to be inclusive of most everyone. Ask my friends today - I'm the one who gets fussed at because I put up with nonsense from erstwhile friends when others would tell them to go pound sand. Same thing here - I even tolerated the occasional political tirade that was provoked by seemingly innocuous topics like, "I cooked a good steak tonight." Yes, that turned into a political statement, and I had to shut it down.

That, however, PALES in comparison to the latest episode, where this individual decided that he could interject himself into my family situation, and not only offer advice where it wasn't asked for, but to take it several steps further and chastise and remand me for my parenting skills.

Keep in mind that I'm pretty sure this person has not (mercifully) procreated and contributed to a clearly-tainted gene pool that he unwittingly represents. Where he gleaned his paternal wisdom is beyond me, but hey - he's a liberal Democrat, and apparently that engenders a level of entitlement...nay, a superior moral station in society where enlightenment is clearly granted.

Long story short: he tried to give MY daughter grammar lessons. I deleted his posts. He called me a dick, and I told him to piss off. His retort, verbatim from Facebook (including a well-worded exhortation from a like-minded liberal):

ASSHOLE If you contribute valuable information, in an easy to remember format & the person you posted to deletes the information, accuses you of "carpet bombing" their page, unfriends & blocks you, what do you call them? You might well consider an overreaction like that qualifies one as an "asshole", you might call them "ungreatful bastard", I call him Jim Roth. He won't see this, but you can tell him.

Liberal associate: We're of like mind in the political debates but surely you have to realize that with your aggressive style of debate this is a result you're likely to encounter from time to time. It's happened to me and I'm usually way more diplomatic in calling bullshit on bullshit claims. A lot of people have a general expectation that their "friends," even their Facebook friends, are of like mind with them on the issues of the day, and when they post their political pronouncements all they're really expecting or looking for is "amens" from their friends. When you come in and piss in their Cheerios with facts, figures, and counterarguments, the negative reaction is understandable. Living with that result is a consequence of letting the truth set you free.

ASSHOLE There was no debate.
He criticized his daughter in public, which I didn't mention.
Instead I said my sister graduated Rice & made a similar mistake.
Then, I used a couple of posts to explain apostrophes showing a contraction of 2 words. Also the difference between they're, there & their. My last post was a joke saying that'll be 100 bucks.
He could have removed the last one and I'd have said nothing again. BUT BOTH TIMES HE DIDN'T THINK OF HIS DAUGHTERS NEEDS OR FEELINGS. He then did what I described above.

ASSHOLE Oh, after waiting 10-15 minutes for him to respond & he didn't, I said "That was a DICK move." THAT was my ONLY offense.
He is publicly demonstrating he is a bad father, but I'M the problem.
Give me a break. I feel sorry for that family. His daughter is on full scholarship and the dean's list. If he keeps to the same course, she will flush his ass right out of her life. I think that is pretty sad. I also think that it is pretty sad that he is a 'gun nut' both that & his treatment of his daughter indicate compensation for something, probably lack of confidence, or low self esteem.

By the way, asshole - it's spelled "ungrateful," you stupid, self-important prick.

Now, let's break this down a bit. My daughter's needs or feelings? He knows my daughter? His opinion means absolutely dick. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Nada. My daughter and I have a stellar relationship that this loser is never going to experience. What on this green earth made him think that he gets to participate in a father/child relationship that he knows nothing about?

Did I ask for his help in correcting grammar? Nope. Is this a running joke with me and my daughter? Yep. Would he know anything about that? Nope. I'll just let the "gun nut" thing go, because that's a typical libtard scapegoat for their own inadequacies and an innate desire for a governmental teat from which to suckle.

I could go on and on, but I think the situation speaks for itself. Sad, pathetic, lonely and mean is no way to go through life, son.

Incidentally, if and when I see you again, you've been prepped. There will be no debate, no discussion. I'm just going to pay you back in the simplest, purest, most expiditious way I know how. Sleep well.

Hi.

Just checking in. As a member of the club, I've got access (on a first-come, first-served basis) to a number of bays. You can drive your car down to the bays and park there, which is convenient. While it's a private club, you have folks there who are casual shooters at best, and we've learned through experience not to assume that membership implies competence.

We got our range bags out and followed protocol on un-bagging and holstering our firearms, with one or more of us supervising each other. I think everyone there was a certified range officer. You can't be too safe, ya know?

In the next bay, the one on the end, a white SUV pulled up, and 3 guys got out, one of them older than the other two. The older guy was the club member, it turns out. We didn't pay much attention, but commented to each other to keep an eye out, until we had a feel for their gun-handling skills.

We got a pretty good feel rather quickly.

Attending to our business, we heard a "bang," followed by some deafening silence. We looked over and saw 3 very surprised faces at the tailgate of the SUV. We asked if everyone was okay twice, with no response. I walked over, and asked again. They replied in the affirmative.

The guilty party was standing there with what looked like a Keltec POS in .22 or .25, and he said, "I was unloading the gun." I replied that he had certainly accomplished removing one round from the gun, so let's see what's left, safely. The mag was still in, so I instructed him to remove that, then show me a clear gun, then pull the trigger, then bag the gun.

I asked where the hole was, and he pointed to the deck that covers the spare tire, which likely suffered a mortal injury. I can only assume the gas tank wasn't punctured, too.

I actually had to explain to this club member that we don't handle firearms in our cars at this club. Use the safe area - there's consideration for people who don't know how to handle firearms there, so if you DO have an accidental/negligent discharge, it's in a controlled environment, and hopefully nobody or nothing gets perforated in the process.

I don't know what responsibility, if any, I have as a member of that club to tell this guy to put his stuff away and come back when he knew what he was doing, so I just urged him to do the right thing, mind his muzzle and trigger, and don't shoot any of us. If it had been me, I'd have been too embarrassed to stay, but unbelievably, he stayed. Not only that, but I saw him explaining gun safety to the 2 others with him.

Moral of the story? Rather than the obvious gun safety lesson which, no matter how many times is repeated, is lost on so many people, I'd rather provide this advice: any time you're at a gun range with other people you don't know (and sometimes, when you are), don't assume that you won't get shot. Some stupid people own firearms, and don't know the first thing about safety. They're not mean or malicious, they're just ignorant. This can create a very dangerous situation. Don't feel bad about ratting out bad gun discipline to the local range officers. The same administration who has set up a pay czar to make sure that executive compensation is not out of line is now paying the person they ousted nearly $60,000 a month for working a whopping 20 hours.

And oh yes, speaking of the pay czar....

Whitacre's pay package exceeds the limits imposed on companies that have received U.S. government aid, but the an exemption was worked out with government pay czar Kenneth Feinberg, GM said.
I wonder how many exemptions were given to Toyota? But I guess that since the US government doesn't own Toyota, we won't be seeing any special privileges, will we?

Because to this administration, everyone is equal, some are just more equal than others.
