FiberCulture London Program – 2010

We’re excited to share the news that Textile Travel will be introducing a new concept in group touring for fiber lovers.

Beginning in September and October, 2010, we will host our inaugural FiberCulture program in London, England. Participants can sample from the broad palette of textile resources in one of the world’s most dynamic cities, while taking advantage of the many theatres, museums, exhibitions and shopping opportunities available in London.

For a period of weeks, Textile Travel will host fiber lovers in a convenient hotel or a chic, centrally-located London apartment. Come when you can, stay as long as you like (subject to availability). High-quality, professional travel and concierge services are augmented by our deep knowledge of the London cultural landscape, and our love of all things fibrous.

Each morning, our experienced staff will be on hand to brief you over continental breakfast, on the many options you can choose from that day: These could be:

A fiber event at a large venue
Knitting circle in a local yarn shop or pub
Visit to an exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum
Day trip to the greenhouses at Kew Gardens
Walk through Hyde Park with tea at Kensington Gardens
Visit to Portobello Road, Petticoat Lane or other London outdoor market

Without adhering to a rigid itinerary, alone or with friends, you can relax among a companionable group of fellow travelers with lots in common – notably an independent streak. In the evenings, we will offer options for dining out and theatre forays, or you can sit and knit in front of the telly with some take-out and a bottle of Beaujolais.

Cape Codders! Spinners Guild heads to Stitches East October 24, 2009

Cape Cod Spinners Guild will be traveling to Stitches East in Hartford, CT on Saturday, October 24, 2009. Textile Travel is coordinating registration for this fun trip.

Non-members are welcome to join us! Cost is $39.00 per person, tax included.

Our coach will pick up passengers in Hyannis and Wareham in the early morning, returning about 7:00 PM.

Freeform Fest 2009 – Mediterranean Cruise with Prudence Mapstone

Our 2009 Freeform Fest for crocheters and knitters is in the works!
Sailing from Rome on Holland America’s Noordam August 17-27, 2009, our cruise will visit such ports such as Corfu, Dubrovnik, Ephesus, Santorini, and Messina Sicily, and features Freeform Goddess Prudence Mapstone with her big knitting bag full of beautiful examples of Freeform fiber art!

We have inside, outside, verandah and suite cabins blocked for our 10-day cruise-and-learn adventure. There will be a series of workshops targeted to both our ‘veteran’ cruisers, and those who’ve never studied with Prudence before.

Textile Travel is a big supporter of small, sustainable fiber producers and farms. We love events that celebrate and spread the word about hard-working fiber animals and the people who shepherd them, worldwide.

Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to attend numerous fiber festivals, conferences and outdoor shows. Among our favorites are the Woolfest in England’s Lake District, held each June, and Wonderwool, an April event in beautiful Wales.

New Hampshire Sheep & Wool Festival – Day Trip

We love the southern New Hampshire fiber scene – from rare sheep breeds, to cute angora goats, fluffy rabbits and skillful sheepdogs, there’s never a dull moment at the New Hampshire Sheep & Wool Festival at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds. Always held on Mother’s Day Weekend, this year’s festival will be Saturday & Sunday, 10 and 11 May, 2008.

Textile Travel will be making the 1.5 hour trek north from the Boston Metro area early on the morning of Saturday, May 10th. Our mini-bus day trip will whisk fiber lovers to the Hopkinton, N.H. State Fairgrounds, where you can participate in educational programs, watch sheepdog trials and animal judging, enjoy the many excellent festival food choices, and add to your stash of yarn that’s locally-grown, spun and dyed. Enroute home we will stop in Manchester for dinner at the Puritan Backroom, and be back within Rte. 128 by around 8:00 PM.

Relax, enjoy a spring day outdoors, save on gas – join us for this fun and festive event – the essence of New England!

Tickets are $72 per person, which includes roundtrip transportation from one of 3 Boston Metro area hubs, coffee break and dinner (main course, non-alcoholic beverage and dessert).

Martha’s Vineyard Fiber Fest

We are excited to be attending the inaugural Martha’s Vineyard Fiber Fest on April 19, 2008.

It’s being held at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury, from 10 AM to 5 PM, and is the brainchild of Susan Gibbs, Shepherdess Extraordinaire of MV Fiber Farm, who has launched the wonderful CSA for non-vegetable products, to wit, fleece and spun yarns. See her story here.

Alaska Cruise with Uber-Genius Prudence Mapstone

We’re thrilled to be cruising again this year with Freeform Fiber Guru Prudence Mapstone.

After the success of our fabulous Bermuda cruise in 2007, we’re heading to Alaska’s Inside Passage July 6-13, 2008 for Freeform Fest 2008. It’s sure to be a memorable ‘working’ vacation for lovers of freeform knitting and crochet, as well as for their friends and family!

Prudence will be conducting workshops in Freeform crochet and knitting techniques, signing copies of her books, and allowing us to examine her exquisite work upclose to inspire our own freeform pieces.

You can be an experienced crocheter or knitter, or have zero knowledge about Freeform – by the time you disembark, Prudence will have you believing in your creative powers!

The Star Princess will be our luxurious home for a week as we meet to learn, share and create our Freeform masterpieces.We will sail from the Port of Seattle on Sunday, July 6, travel up the Inside Passage past Alaska’s awesome glaciers, stop in Ketchikan and Skagway, visit stunning Victoria, B.C., then return to Seattle on Sunday, June 13, 2008.
