'31-year-old Nancy Trejos was supposed to be an expert on handling her money - after all, she's the personal finance columnist for one of the nation's leading newspapers, The Washington Post. But a few months ago, she found herself in her own dire financial straits. Faced with a mountain of bills, debt, and no way to pay her rent, she was forced to call her parents to ask them for a loan. That night was a wake-up call - she vowed to get herself out of debt and into financial solvency.

In Hot Broke Messes, Trejos takes readers along with her on her journey. She meets with a financial planner and a therapist to deal with all the issues young people face today - from credit card debt and student loans, to impulse buying and emotional spending, to the cost of having a social life, to buying a house with someone during a potentially impermanent relationship and more. Trejos learns what causes these problems in herself, how she can fix them, and how she can pass that advice on to other young people going through the same experiences.

Even better, she shows readers how they can address these problems without completely giving up their lives - no "give up your latte a day" type advice here! Trejos' personal and unique voice, along with her experiences that everyone can relate to, will lead readers to relatively painless financial security. '
Unfortunately it went missing until yesterday! Now that the Too Faced Glamour To Go 2 Palette is back in my hands, it's review time!!!

What ~ Too Faced Glamour To Go 2 Palette... 8 shadows, 4 lip glosses & 1 blush
Thoughts ~ The colours in the Too Faced Glamour To Go 2 Palette are great. They are all sort of khaki neutrals, good for blending together. The set itsself is tiny, so it fits in even the tiniest of CityGal's clutches. I would almost say the Too Faced Glamour To Go 2 Palette is a great set not to apply your makeup with initially, but to take with you to touch up your makeup. Start the day with a lighter lip and touch it up to be a little darker before you go for drinks after work. Or perhaps start the day with a more subtle shadow, then rev it up with some bolder colours from the set once your meeting is over. I am going to say this is a great "to go" product, (as it is marketed). I have seen a lot of reviews saying that it isn't the greatest palette to apply your makeup with, as it is small and there isn't much to it, but I honestly think it was designed as an "after your makeup is on" kit. Maybe you go to your work meeting with some liner and mascara, then meet up with the girls after. Instead of going home and re-doing your eyes, just make a nice smoky brown eye on the go with this palette. When I started writing this review, I saw the Too Faced Glamour To Go 2 palette in a completely different way than I do now. It is definitely a to go or an on the go palette, and for that reason, I give it a great rating!
Any Complaints? ~My only 2 complaints...It is a "to go" product, so a mini brush would be awesome (now i have to bring my own out with me)! Also it's not as pigmented as most Too Faced shadows are, so it takes a little more work to get the desired colour.
Price ~ Roughly $18.50
Verdict ~ Based on the fact that it is a to go palette, I think it is a useful product. It is smaller than my phone, and has lots of colour options. For only about $18.50, I'd say the Too Faced Glamour To Go 2 palette is a great deal!
We're finding (and loving!) more and more of these specialty cosmetic places in Yaletown... Noir Lash Lounge, Bombay Brow Bar and now Stripped Wax Bar!

Fortunately, Stripped Wax Bar is very reasonably priced - $20 for a bikini, $35 for a Brazilian (!!!), $25/$40 for a half or full leg.. Or $120 for anything and everything. (Check out their website for a full price list)

First time getting a Brazilian? Not to worry! They have a first-timers Brazilian (with extra TLC).
Mmmmmm....Vanilla

So we all know there are 8 million different room sprays, scents, mists and whatnot. I find that I am super picky about what I like my place to smell like, and I HATE fake smells. Aura Cacia is an all natural essential oil and fragrance company that we've come to love. I was wandering through Capers Market on Robson street the other night. As usual, I tested out all of the room sprays and one caught my...nose? Its the most delightful smell! (This would be vanilla spray number 11 that I have bought and by FAR my favorite). Go smell it! I guarantee you will buy a bottle for yourself and one for your best friend!
Welcome to the team Ali!

What~ Tarte – Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Illuminating Serum

Thoughts~ I was very excited to try this product and had high hopes for the result it might give, but unfortunately I was met with disappointment. I would think one would normally apply an illuminator last/over top of their usual make up regimen, so I applied the illuminating serum onto both cheeks, one bare, and one with a layer of my usual foundation on it. What I found, was that the serum does appear to add a hint of a dewy glow at first, but once the product is blended and has dried, the impact is barely noticeable at best. I also observed that the product removed some of my regular foundation when applied over top, therefore exposing the uneven skin pigmentation which I had previously concealed with a bit of foundation. From this I concluded that the product isn't very compatible with other make up products. Overall, I would say that the intent of this product is great. It is a nicely packaged liquid which is easily applied using just your fingertips; the crucially daunting area being its impact or lack thereof. Unless you're going for a severely subtle effect, I would not recommend this product.

Price ~ Roughly $36

Verdict~ Like I mentioned before, unless you're going for a severely subtle effect, I would not recommend this product.

Find it ~ in Sephora! (I bet you know where your closest Sephora is!)
I have never been one for lemon-y desserts (I'm a chocolate gal). As soon as I opened and smelled this, (roughly a week ago) I have had this major craving/obsession (I think we can safely call it an obsession) with lemon squares, lemon pies and anything else lemony dessert wise... My poor darling boyfriend had to walk around downtown with me after dinner the other night searching for a lemon-y dessert (we settled on an entire lemon meringue pie! Goodness!) I blame this all on the Barefoot Venus Lemon Freckle body lotion. Now... onto the review!

What ~ Barefoot Venus Lemon Freckle body lotion.
Thoughts ~ Body lotions are pretty easy to judge. They either smell amazing, the smell lasts, and they moisturize without leaving a greasy feeling... Or they don't. Plain and simple! So let's start on the first one. As I stated above, it smells amazing (really... We promise!) The smell itself seems to last for a while, which is important. There is nothing worse than putting a lotion on and not being to smell it 2 minutes later. Most importantly- does it moisturize without making your skin greasy? Yes. It absorbs very nicely and doesn't grease up your skin. Don't you absolutely hate it when you put lotion on then go to put your hair up and it greases up your hair!? You won't have that problem with this lotion. Barefoot Venus definitely hit the nail on the head with this one.
Any Complaints? ~ Other than the fact that I ate 3/4 of a lemon meringue pie? Nope... None!
Price ~ Roughly $4.99
Other scents ~ Barefoot Venus lotion comes in many other (CityGal approved) scents...Honeydew, Lippy Pilly, Sugar Leaf, Nutmeg & Ginger, Tangerine, Georgia Peach, Razz my Berries, Ruby Red and Lemon Freckle!
Verdict ~ Buy it, but if you wind up eating 7 lemon meringue pies after, please dont blame us!!!!
Find it ~ You can find the Barefoot Venus Lemon Freckle Body Lotion at Spa Utopia, or on Barefoot Venus' website!
What ~ Bed Head Colour Goddess shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioner

Thoughts ~ For those who love products that smell delicious-you will enjoy this haircare line from Bed Head.
The Colour Goddess products smell like a decadent caramel dessert and create a satisfying lather.
I was pleased that after using the shampoo alone my hair felt noticeably softer- the conditioner is
simply the cherry on top! The results are what you would expect of a shampoo and conditioner, great smelling hair and manageability with some noticeable shine. The leave in conditioner is great for when you want a little burst of moisture and scent in your hair.

Any Complaints? ~ I found nothing wrong with this haircare line, however, besides its amazing smell there isn't anything outstanding about it.

Price ~ Tigi Bed Head Colour Goddess can be found for anywhere between $12 and $24 per bottle. (Find here
on Amazon for only $10.88)

Verdict ~ I would say go out and buy this because it is one of the better shampoos I have used. My hair was soft and shiny and smelt great!

What ~ Scrub Your Nose In It: Multi-tasking scrub and mask marvel

Thoughts ~ There were lots of things about Scrub Your Nose In It that made me WANT to love it, but at the end of the day I just couldn’t. That being said, I didn’t not like it, but nothing about it made me want to scream off the roof tops! The Scrub Your Nose In It: Multi-tasking scrub and mask marvel had all the right appeal-refines large pores, prevents blemishes and even has pore-purifying clay mask built in. What I did enjoy about it was that the scrub was heated. The product worked and it definitely made the pores on my face appear smaller, but there are so many of these exact products on the shelves these days that I would no sooner buy this, than any other version of this product. On the bright side (literally!) the pink tube added color to my usually boring bathroom! The one important thing about this product is that you MUST moisturise after using it, because it is a heated product is takes away from your skins moisture, and if you don't moisturize you could end up with dry skin(or if you are really sensitive even peeling).
Any complaints~ Although I didn’t fall in love with this product, like I previously mentioned- I didn’t not like it! It did everything it promised me it would, and the pink tube added a brightness that my bathroom DESPERATELY needed!

Price ~ Roughly $9.99

Verdict~ Didn’t love it, but didn’t hate it either!!

What ~ Tarte emphasEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner

Thoughts ~ This clay liner was especially intriguing. The idea is to use the double sided brush to apply the clay liner, which comes in a glass pot, to create a number of effects upon the eye. There were a number of aspects of the Tarte emphasEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner which I truly enjoyed. Firstly, the packaging is great, as it gives illustrations and directions for how to create three different eyeliner looks using the product. I also really loved the consistency of the liner. It is creamy, soft and spreadable and leaves a matte finish. The pigment is truly as black as it gets, which I especially loved, because I've found many liners dry too shiny and end up looking more like charcoal than black. You can definitely create a wide range of looks with this product, whether you're going for a natural daytime look, seductive cat eye, or smoky eye. Bonus-It's waterproof!

Any Complaints? ~ There were only two downsides I could find to the Tarte emphasEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner. Firstly, it's significantly more expensive than your typical brush/pot eyeliner duo. Secondly, the bristles of the brush included are not great quality. They feel fine to your fingertips, but when used on a sensitive area such as the eye, they feel noticeably sharp and uncomfortable, and even caused my eyes to water slightly

Price ~ Roughly $36

Find it ~ At Sephora! (I bet you know where your closest Sephora is!)

Verdict ~ I would recommend pairing the liner itself with an alternative, higher quality brush. Good quality tools make a world of difference.
What ~ Barefoot Venus- posh peony skin polisher with apricot seed

Thoughts ~ First of all, I was very excited to use the Barefoot Venus posh peony skin polisher exfoliating scrub. It was just what I was looking for! The smell is best described as a clean floral scent, that is impossible not to love. I find that many
floral scented products can be overwhelming, however, the posh peony scent was definitely not. What I loved
most about this product was that the smell lingered on my skin long after my shower and I had noticeably smoother skin. I wouldn't describe this as a body wash but it does create "gentle suds" as the bottle itself claims, so you have the best of both worlds. This product alone will give you soft skin but pairing it with your favorite moisturizer leads to ultimate results.

Any Complaints? ~ The only thing I'm disappointed about is that the Barefoot Venus posh peony skin polisher bottle the product comes in is a little on the small side!

Price ~ Roughly $20.99

Find It ~ At Spa Utopia! (for locations, click here)

Verdict ~ Barefoot Venus' posh peony skin polisher is a wonderful product that I will continue to use. The smell was a big factor in winning me over.

<img border="0" i$="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ytCL4gpdlIc/TgDrTdEMD9I/AAAAAAAAAcI/QGWn36CUqao/s1600/309136.jpg" />
What ~ Tarte emphasEYES Amazonian Clay waterproof liner
Thoughts ~ The Tarte emphasEYES Amazonian Clay waterproof liner may seem intimidating to use at first, however, I was pleasantly surprised at how easily it was applied. Despite my not having prior experience with applying eyeliner using a makeup brush I found it to be no trouble at all. A makeup brush with two different ends is included and the eyeliner itself comes in a cute little jar. One end of the makeup brush has flat angled bristles which are fabulous for creating a thicker, cat eye look. The other end of the brush is thin and pointed and creates a "thin tapered line" as the box claims. Tarte emphasEYES comes in 5 different shades including purple, black and the lovely dark bronze colour I used. I found the eyeliner to be smooth, easy to apply and waterproof as the product claims.Any Complaints? ~ No complaints
Price ~ Roughly $36
Find It ~ At Sephora!
Verdict~ As a girl who loves playing with eyeliner and working the winged eyeliner look I will definitely continue using Tarte emphasEYES Amazonian Clay waterproof liner!

Celebrating its 100th anniversary, Fila announced its first-ever T-shirt design contest that offers Canadians the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to put their artistic stamp on the brand's history.

The winning T-shirt will be on display and gifted to celebrities and VIPs during the Toronto Film Festival, at the IT Lounge-a charitable gifting suite that has past welcomed stars such as Olivia Wilde, Ryan Gosling, Edward Norton, Jennifer Garner and Kardinal Offishall. The winner will also win exclusive access to attend Fila's IT Lounge suite and see their design on display and on celebrities.

Until June 30, Canadians can easily submit their imaginative T-shirt designs through Fila Canada's Facebook page. The public will vote for the top 10 designs, and Fila Canada will choose the grand prize winner on July 11. Throughout the contest, Canadians can view all design submissions on the Facebook page, vote for their favourite or even scope out the competition.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has dreamed of dressing the stars, from aspiring fashion designers to graphic artists to fans without formal design experience.

Where ~ Romers Burger Bar – West 4th - Vancouver
What ~ Burgers, burgers, burgers (and blue beer!)
We headed over to Romers Burger bar to watch a Canucks game, hoping there was enough room. We were pleasantly surprised to be put in a nice booth with a great TV view (all that matters when there’s a game on). The man (shall we call him that?? ok, the BF) had a “blue beer”-Great Canucks idea! Who wouldn’t want a blue beer for a Canucks game!? I had the Beergarita (seriously try it! It rocks! Or check out our own recipe here) Romers has the option to “make it green” giving you the burger on a head of lettuce instead. (still holds like a burger) Absolute WIN. My burger was amazing. Our server was very attentive, knowledgable and pleasant! There isn’t too too much to write about Romers, as it is still a burger bar (but a classy one, at that). Great experience, and we’ll be back to Romers Burger Bar over, and over again. No complaints whatsoever. Great food, great drink, great fries, great service. I’d happily recommend Romers Burger Bar to anyone looking for somewhere to have a “more than a burger” burger.
I recommend ~ The Rodeo Burger (Ancho starbuck spice, applewood bacon, red onions, horseradish jack, bbq sauce and cilantro) and a Beergarita!
Wine Recommendation ~ Don’t drink wine! Beergarita!
Price ~ $$
Verdict ~ Two thumbs up

What ~ Tarte High-Performance Naturals Amazonian Clay Long-Wear Blush

Thoughts ~ As a fair haired/skinned female, when I open up a new makeup and see a bright orange color, I am instantly scared. My skin has a red tint to it to begin with, the last thing I need is to add orange to that. That was NOT the case with the Tarte High-performance naturals Amazonian Clay Long-wear Blush, the orange coloring somehow transformed into a gorgeous color that complemented my skin tone perfectly! Unlike other “long-wear” products that seem to last just as long as their regular counterparts, this blush lasted from the minute I put it on at 8am to start my day, to when I took it off after a long day at 12am. At my job I am on my feet, running around all day so re-applying makeup over and over again can be tedious, but with the Tarte Amazonian Clay long-wear blush that was not the case...once was enough. It works perfectly on just natural skin, or applies just as nicely to a layer of foundation or powder.

Any complaints ~ The only complaint I had was, like many females, I keep my makeup in my purse, and after several uses the blush broke in my bag. The container kept all the loose powder in and didn’t explode over my bag. Although I'm still using it, I wish that it's casing had been a bit stronger to withstand being in my bag.

Price ~ $25

Verdict ~ In love! Once I find a product I love, I stick to it, and this Tarte High-Performance Naturals Amazonian Clay Long-Wear Blush has just become a staple in my makeup bag!

Find it ~ Find it here
Want to try something new?

What ~ Make Up For Ever Microfinish HD Creams Blush!
Thoughts ~ I am always hesitant with cream blushes, because they are a lot harder to fix if you put too much on! It seems as though there are so many new cream blush products in stores lately, I figured I had to give it a try. Make Up For Ever's Microfinish Cream Blush has a very handy dispenser. (No more dipping your fingers into messy pots!) The blush goes on and blends very smoothly. It almost seems to give a nice warm glow to your cheeks. Make Up For Ever's products have always been a staple in my makeup bag. They are always fantastic quality, highly pigmented and don't need reapplying 3-4 times a day. I have definitely been sold on the cream blush craze. My skin looked soft, smooth and glowing. Very pleased.
Any Complaints? ~ The pump dispenses about 5x more blush than you need/can use in one application. Unfortunately, even the smallest touch to the pump, dispenses too much. My only other complaint, and it didn't affect me, but I think it's important to say. If your skin isn't smooth in the first place, or smoothed by makeup, the product falls into the lines and creases in your skin and emphasizes them. I only figured this out when I put it on the back of my hand and blended it in... It looked like a zebra effect, as it filled the textured skin on the back of my hands. I wouldn't say this would be a major problem, as mostly you would put it on top of your foundation, however if you have a fair amount of lines on your face, I would test it out before you head out of the house!
Price ~ Roughly $28
Verdict ~ Definitely try it out on your skin before you buy it! Make Up For Ever Microfinish Cream Blush is a great quality product. It lasts all day, without fail. Another win for Make Up For Ever.
Find it ~ You can find Make Up For Ever Microfinish Cream Blush at Sephora, Shoppers Drug Mart (Optimum points!!) or on Amazon(it's only $25!)
This one's for you....

What ~ Lavera No.1 black eyeliner... Organic and all-natural eyeliner pencil.
Thoughts ~ For those of you who are big into organic and all natural makeup, this is definitely for you! Lavera is a brand that has succeeded in making a good quality organic and all natural makeup line. The Lavera no.1 black eyeliner goes on easily and smoothly. There isn't too much to judge an eyeliner by. It either goes on easily, is pigmented, and stays on... Or it doesn't. The Lavera eyeliner goes on very easily and is fairly highly pigmented. Not bad for an organic and all-natural product!
Any Complaints? ~I am sure it has something to do with the lack of chemicals in the liner, but it rubs off quite easily, which is great when you're trying to wash it off, but not so great when you want it to stay on during the day. Touch-ups definitely needed!
Price ~ Roughly $13.50
Verdict ~ Given the fact that it is organic, and all natural, I would give the Lavera eyeliner a good rating. It is understandable that without all the chemicals, it does not stay on as long, but that's a small price to pay to not have chemicals on your face all day. To each her own... if you're a fan of organic and all natural, then definitely buy this product. If you're a fan of a dark, dark black liner that will last all day, then this product is probably not for you.
Find it ~ You can find Lavera No. 1 black eyeliner at Whole Foods or on Lavera's website!

What ~ Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder
Thoughts ~ Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder is a face powder that you grate yourself everytime you use it. (You can grate as little or as much as you need) While $72 (approx) may seem like a lot of money, you get the amount of powder that you would normally get in 5 compacts. So it really works out to be about $14 per compact. Think of it as going to Costco and buying a 5-pack of powders! The powder goes on smooth and the coverage is fantastic. It doesn't clump or dry your face out, and provides a really nice even coverage. One very important thing I should point out is because you grate it yourself everytime you use it, it stays fresh a lot longer than a normal compact would.
Any Complaints? ~ Honestly? No.
Price ~ Roughly $72
Verdict ~ 5 stars! Two *french manicured* thumbs up! Love it! Plus if you go get the Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder on a 20x the points day at Shoppers Drug Mart, think of the points you would get... $72.... 20x the points 14400 points!
Where to find it ~ Find the Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder @ Shoppers Drug Mart, Sephora or at Amazon (It's only $59 on Amazon!)
