I’ve become addicted to the silly, sinful, and salacious show True Blood. The show is based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. The story is peppered with over-the-top characters. The barmaids wear fitted white t-shirts. The Fangtasia staff wears black leather and chains. The county road crew sometimes goes shirtless.

I’ve taken to Vampire Pam. She’s a delight. Pam’s role is larger in the novels, but you can get the gist of her from the show. She likes to be tidy and preppy. She wears only the best clothes and has a penchant for twinsets. She likes Sookie. They have in-jokes and an easiness about their friendship.

I found a clearance dress at The Limited that is similar to the shirt dress Pam wears during the last few episodes of season one. Here’s a sneak peak at the dress as is. I’ll change the buttons and maybe the buckle. The breast pockets may a bit harder to add without a fabric match.

By the way, she doesn’t glitter.

Mmmmm, burgers! We’ve lit some snakes and snapped some poppers. As soon as the sun goes down, we’ll have sparklers and fountains and pretty aerials. I’m wearing the Miss Firecracker costume with some mismatched old prom shoes and Wonder Girl earrings.

The dress has a red and white attached skirt. The blue corset, also attached, is a plastic material. It’s almost wrinkle proof. A little red-bowed headband is included with the costume. When I bought fireworks, everyone asked me where I got my dress. Check out the album for closeups of the dress. After the burgers…

If you’ll do anything for free food, this one’s for you. Chick-fil-A will give a free meal (entree, side, and drink) to any customer dressed from head to hoof as a cow on July 10. If you need a little help putting together an ensemble, the have a cow kit you can download and print. They are also hosting a kids’ photo contest. Don’t forget to wear your cow costume on July 10. You might have a lot of fun.

If you don’t quite have it in you to go full cow, guests sporting cow shirts, scarves, hats, etc may be awarded a free entree.

My parents struggled with finding ways to occupy my summers. They found a theater arts summer camp that ran in two-week sessions. Perfect. No audition was required, so my lack of vocal talent was swept under the rug. I had a blast at Action Arts and attended fro four summers. All participants were responsible for their own costumes. Each child was cast in one song number, one dance number, one short scene, and the opening and closing numbers. That was a lot to a kid. Here are a fw of the pictures I found in my parent’s attic.
