Emmylou Harris Leads 2013 Americana Music Award Nominations

The Americana Music Association announced nominees today for the 2013 Honors & Awards in Los Angeles at the Grammy Museum. The ceremony featured performances by now nominated artists Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale, T Bone Burnett with Lisa Marie Presley, Elizabeth Cook and The Milk Carton Kids. The program was broadcast live on AXS TV, who will present a special encore presentation of the event later this evening at 9PM ET/6PM PT.

Shovels & Rope, with four nominations, followed by Emmylou Harris and Miller, with three each, lead the nominee slate while many other notable artists were recognized including: Rodney Crowell, John Fullbright, Lauderdale, The Lumineers, JD McPherson, the aforementioned Milk Carton Kids, Bruce Robison & Kelly Willis, Richard Thompson, and Dwight Yoakam. Winners will be announced live at the annual Americana Honors and Awards, presented by Nissan, on September 18th Live on AXS TV from the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN.

Today’s celebration in Los Angeles kicked off with an Americana tribute to George Jones featuring Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale leading their all-star band comprised of Fats Kaplin, Brian Owings and Jay Weaver. The music continued with performances by Lisa Marie Presley with special guest T Bone Burnett, Elizabeth Cook and the Milk Carton Kids.

Burnett, who produced Americana masterpieces ranging from “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” to the Americana and Grammy award winning “Raising Sand” by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant, spoke to the Clive Davis Theatre audience about the genre that honors the roots of American music that has grown to prominence in recent years.This year, the nominees reflect the diverse and artistic breadth of the genre; where legends and the next generation of stars share the stage.

The Americana Honors & Awards, presented by Nissan, returns to the historically cool Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN on September 18, 2013 (as part of the Americana Music Festival - September 18-22, 2013 at venues throughout Music City).

Dierks Bentley Teases New Fall Album, Riser

Dierks Bentley announced yesterday that he will release his latest album, Riser, in fall 2013. The album is highly personal as the title track was written after the death of his father last year.

“Life in general has a way of knocking you down,” Bentley says. “It’s different reasons for different folks – could be personal reasons, could be family reasons, your job, drugs, alcohol. That song really applies to anybody that’s lived. There have always been those moments when we have to get back up and get on our feet. They are defining moments…breakthrough moments.”

Country Artists Record Children's Hospital Benefit Album

Heartfelt songs penned by a group of patients of Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt while working with their music therapist are being released May 14 worldwide on a compilation CD featuring some of Nashville's top recording stars.

Artists Kix Brooks, Melinda Doolittle, Fisk Jubilee Singers, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Faith Hill, Alison Krauss, Maura O'Connell, Johnny Reid, SHEL and Phil Vassar breathe life into songs written by patients Austin Bagby, Ethan Carpenter, Courtney Gaoette, Erica Kilburn, Amy Overton, Gigi Pasley and Christopher Weber, along with music therapist Jenny Plume.

Everybody Has A Story is a selection of songs written by patients over the past six years, each song the result of a clinical music therapy session involving the patient and music therapist Jenny Plume. The patients who participated were treated for a variety of chronic illnesses such as cancer and cystic fibrosis, two were heart transplant recipients, and one was hospitalized for pneumonia.

Plume helped patients shape their thoughts and feelings into lyrics and a melody. Some lyrics were crafted out of a story idea, and some were created by long discussions about the patients' feelings and situations. The song topics range from serious to fun and silly.

Sometimes we wrote about a real life experience, other times I would ask questions and the answers would make the lyrics, sometimes we used their poems, Plume said. So, it was very collaborative, with me trying to draw those ideas and words out of them.

I hope they will go on to know that they can do anything, they can create things, and hopefully music will always be in their lives. For those patients who have passed on, this will be a legacy to celebrate their lives. Proceeds from the sales of this CD will benefit the Julian T. Fouce Music Therapy Fund, founded at Vanderbilt in 2007 by Tom and Maria Fouce in memory of their son, Julian, a great lover of music. Julian died in 2005 after a long battle with leukemia.

Plume's idea of making a CD to celebrate her patients' talents mixed well with Tom Fouce, a Music Row recording engineer who approached his industry contacts to see if there was interest in having the songs brought to life by professional artists. The artists enthusiastically agreed to donate their voices and time.

Aaron Tippin, Joe Diffie and Sammy Kershaw To Release Collaborative Album Together On 5/28

Aaron Tippin, Joe Diffie and Sammy Kershaw are joining forces to release All in the Same Boat, a collaborative album inspired by the trio's current tour, "Roots & Boots". The 12-track album is set for national sales release on May 28, 2013 on Big Hit Records.

"The idea for this album came about after the success of our 'Roots & Boots' tour," notes Kershaw. "Joe and Aaron and I go out together on the road and play and do our hits and the fans go nuts… so we thought, 'why not just make this tour an album?'"

The 12-track album features all-new music as well as freshly recorded versions of a few familiar songs like Tippin's smash hit "Kiss This" and Kershaw's 1993 chart topper "She Don't Know She's Beautiful."

"I decided to go with two brand new songs and one old Neil Young song, 'Heart of Gold,' for my tunes on the album," says Diffie. "I think fans will really enjoy the whole thing. We had as much fun making the album as we do on the road!"

"Joe and Sammy are my brothers and I'm so glad we were able to find the time to record this album together," Tippin adds. "We also shot a music video for 'All in the Same Boat.' Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter LeAnn Rimes is releasing her new album, Spitfire, on June 4, 2013. Rimes, who co-wrote nine of the songs on her newest offering, says “This album is a peek into my world; who I am, what I’ve gone through, what my emotions are. It’s an intimate conversation between me and whoever’s listening. I hope I’m saying things that are hard for others to express. It certainly took me a lot of work to get to this point.
