You don’t want to go putting HTML tags directly into post titles. It might show up OK on your own site, but it can be problematic. For example, your titles through RSS will show the tags as next, not render them. I was wishing for a plugin to handle this better, but until then, here is almost-as-simple way to go about it.

The latest versions of the five major most web browsers (Mozilla Firefox 3.5, Google Chrome 3.0, Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0, Opera 10.0, and Apple Safari 4.0) went head to head under six performance indicators: JavaScript speed, average CPU usage under stress, DOM selection, CSS rendering speed, page load time, and browser cache performance. Each web browser was tested three times under an unprimed cache (except for the browser cache performance), and their average value reported in the results.

Introducing Google Chrome Frame | Chromium Blog
Today, we're releasing an early version of Google Chrome Frame, an open source plug-in that brings HTML5 and other open web technologies to Internet Explorer. We're building Google Chrome Frame to help web developers deliver faster, richer applications like Google Wave. Recent JavaScript performance improvements and the emergence of HTML5 have enabled web applications to do things that could previously only be done by desktop software. One challenge developers face in using these new technologies is that they are not yet supported by Internet Explorer.

Following on from @media 2009 this year was a free event organised by Bruce Lawson and Henny Swan at the inimitable Bricklayer's Arms just round the corner from Tottenham Court Road. HTML 5 was the topic of this inaugural Standards.Next meeting with an impressive array of speakers and content.

Well, what an excellent few days that was in London for, as it turned out, the last @media conference to be run by Vivabit. I only missed out on 2008 so I would like to thank Patrick and team for the vision and hard work put into the conference series to date and wish Patrick well with his new venture. The good people of Web Directions will be taking over the organising for next year and keeping the brand alive I believe.

I'm pleased to announce the release of my first WordPress theme today—Brave New World. The theme is free of layout and styling beyond a modified version of Eric Meyer's reset CSS and two baseline typography CSS files to choose from—just like Elliot Jay Stock's Starkers theme this is a base theme free from cruft yet incorporates HTML5, WAI-ARIA landmark roles and hCard and hAtom microformats.

This post signifies the launch of TSG version 4 using WordPress, HTML 5, CSS 2.1 and 3. It is also a milestone in that I no longer support Internet Explorer 6 and its poor implementation of web standards—this is my personal website after all. Depending on your choice of browser your experience may vary also as I used CSS 3 selectors that are not fully supported yet by all the browsers. Flick around between your test suite.

Working with z-index can be a little counter-intuitive at times.

With my redesign I wanted to place a "polaroid" style photo of myself behind the "about" section but in front of the main content and header. If I hadn't used such large text and a coloured background perhaps I wouldn't even have noticed what was happening.
