Ad agency Fischer & Friends decided to remove smartphones from the dining experience so that people will actually have to look at other humans and use this thing called a “mouth” to form words that end up as a conversation.

It is basically a regular glass with half of its base removed, meaning that people will surely find all sorts of creative ways to fill in the gap using anything other than their beloved phone. Nice try though.

It only took from the dawn of time until now, but humanity finally has a resealable, twist off wine cork, thanks to the efforts of cork manufacturer Amorim and bottle-maker O-I. The technology took four years to develop, most of which was spent ensuring that the wine’s taste, aroma, and color would remain unaffected. Isn’t 21st century technology AMAZING?

This kind of testing was necessary because the agglomerated type of cork used in the Helix is atypical of wine manufacturing. Since cork is cellular in nature, the presence of open spaces in a common, straight cork stopper is ideal—it allows the wine to fill those spaces, expand the cork, and form a tight seal. However, agglomerated cork is more granular, meaning fewer open spaces and less room for expansion. This would be a problem with a normal stopper, but the threaded design of the Helix creates its own tight seal, meaning oxygen can’t escape on the sides while the density of the stopper prevents oxygen from escaping through the cork itself.

The cork’s creators say it could be another two years before the corks, which are aimed at the “popular premium” $8-$15 wines, make it to store shelves.

Ommegang is set to release the second in their Game of Thrones series of beers. The latest offering is a 7% ABV Black Stout which is “as dark as the winters that once engulfed Westeros.”

It’s got your standard stout profile – chocolates, caramel, and probably a bit of coffee – and is brewed with star anise and licorice root.

The new Black Stout is expected to hit store shelves this fall.

There were Candy Corn Oreos this Fall, Gingerbread Oreos at Christmas, and now we have Watermelon Oreos for the summer. They’ve got a watermelon flavored cream filling sandwiched between vanilla Oreo cookies and they’re only available at Target. I tried these the other day and they are, um, very watermelon-y, like Jolly Ranchers on steroids.

There are also limited edition “Rainbow Shure, Bert!” Oreos that you can find at your local grocery store. Yes, I tried those, too and they were actually pretty good!

Remember the 9 patty behemoth known as the Wendy’s T-Rex burger? We learned of its existence only last week but, sadly, it is no more.

This rare beast was once served at a Wendy’s franchise in Brandon, Canada as a tongue in cheek tip of the hat to their customers. According to Barb Barker, who is part of the Brandon Wendy’s management, “Wendy’s corporate put out a tongue-in-cheek ad in Sports Illustrated eight or 10 years ago with a picture of the ‘T-Rex’ burger. Customers liked it and requested it and we obliged given that we’re in the customer service business.”

However, the burger got more attention than anyone could have hoped for when a Reddit user posted it there. The internet did what the internet does and, sadly, Barker had the Brandon, Canada franchise remove the item from the menu, stating, “Wendy’s is not condoning or endorsing that a person eat nine meat patties in one sitting.”

Oh and pretty much everyone on Reddit is blaming the OP for posting the picture and, in essence, killing the T-Rex.

But my favorite part of this? Barker did add a glimmer of hope to those who want to spot the T-Rex, commenting, “We do serve hamburgers and patties the way our customers would like them. An extra patty is an option on a burger, just like extra tomato, extra onions, extra cheese or no mayo.”

The fact that The Simpsons ran out of funny a decade ago doesn’t seem to have had any effect on their popularity. In addition to a new theme park in Orlando, European fast food chain Quick is debuting a a Homer Simposon-themed menu, and as you’ve probably guessed, it’s not health food:

There’s a doughnut cheeseburger [with a doughnut-shaped bun], cheesy doughnuts, plus a selection of sweet doughnuts which also come in a convenient “mini” form. Much of the menu comes served in bright yellow Homer-stamped packaging. Customers indulging in “Homer Mania” also get to take home one of five novelty Homer glasses.

Jack In The Box is clearly planning world domination by making us all so fat we don’t care enough to move and fight.

Starting Thursday, they’ll be serving the Big Waffle Stack. This one handed breakfast of champions tucks eggs, sausage, ham, bacon and American cheese between toasted maple waffles.

How can I resist?

Also coming Thursday? Iced Coffee, Chili Cheese Wedges (topped with chili, cheese, onions and jalapenos) and Jack’s Big Stack: a double cheeseburger on toaster sourdough with American cheese, onion rings, pickles, mustard and mayo onion dressing. Check that out after the break.

Yet another fast food worker has been canned for inappropriate workplace behavior, in this case, sucking frosty straight from the machine. This pic was originally posted on Reddit and eventually found its way to Wendy’s corporate, who wasted no time in firing the worker and announcing that they will be “reinforcing proper procedures”.

My guess is that employees will be watching more of this… or these.

It’s important to have plenty of snacks when you’re gaming so these breakfast versions of the game Settlers of Catan are perfect. They’re designed to be prepped and ready to go before guests arrive so they can just grab what they want and get back to the game.

Ingredients:
Superman-
1 part Red sourpuss
1 part Blue curacao

Kryptonite-
1/2 oz Green creme de menthe
Energy drink

Directions: In a shot glass, carefully layer your blue curacao on top of the red sourpuss. Then, in a tall glass, add a mixture of 1/2 oz green creme de menthe and energy drink to taste. Standard issue drop shot, now with Kryptonian killing might. Drop him in and plan your world domination.
