Things with Shop Cimily have been stressful, to say the least. I started to feel overwhelmed by all the things I had to do and all the updates and changes I wanted to make to improve the shop. And so, like most people who are stressed out by something, I began to avoid it. Yes, I felt guilty for not dealing with the issues I was having with it as soon as possible, but I came to the conclusion that, Shop Cimily should be something that I want to do for my kids, and for myself, and if I wasn't happy doing it, I should take a break until I did feel happy doing it.

And so the day I felt like I wanted to throw myself into working on the Shop came during Spring Break, in April. I asked my boyfriend (who was "just a friend" back then, hehe), Elliott, to help me shoot a quick video as a promo for the Shop Cimily's summer sale, and we got to work. The video only took three days to shoot together, but editing took, well..... a lot longer.

I almost thought not to release the video, but decided that it was better late than never. I'll be going off to college in only a couple weeks, and I'm hoping to sell some things before I go. I'm not sure what will happen to Shop Cimily when I leave, since I will no longer be able to ship the clothes, but hopefully I can continue it some way.

I'm so exuberantly excited. If you're new to my blog or my Youtube Channel, Shop Cimily is an online store for young women's clothing and accessories that I founded. 100% of Shop Cimily's earnings will be donated to the Tinkuy Peru Mountain School, located in Huancayo, Peru, where I volunteered at and taught English over this past summer. Right now I'm focusing on:

Buying the children Christmas gifts
Shipping over boxes of donated clothes
Buying a projector for the school

Hopefully, if Shop Cimily proves to be successful, we can look toward donating to other charities as well!

As I mentioned in my last video, I am planning on opening up an online shop/ boutique, in which 100% of the proceeds will be donated toward funding and helping out the Tinkuy Peru Mountain School that I volunteered at this past summer (read about my adventures there on my personal blog). For now, the money will serve to cover the clothing donation shipment expenses and buy the school a projector and a few other electronic devices that will enable the start of a more advanced educational program. My hope is that the store will eventually grow big enough and be able to generate enough money to donate to other charities as well! ^___^ The website is currently under development, and photo shoots are taking place for the products.

The shop will offer a myriad of apparel and accessories primarily aimed at young women (AKA people like me). All of the items are hand-picked or hand-made by yours truly. Owning and managing my own online shop has always been one of my biggest dreams and aspirations, and being able to marry my fashionista side and my passion for volunteering abroad (basically, my only two interests) is a dream come true. A dream coming true, that is.

DIY Floral Headband

As Megan's early birthday gift, I made her a floral headband yesterday. She wanted one with spikes, but since I could not obtain them in the time given, I left them out. Here's how it turned out:

Materials:

Plain / unribboned headband
Ribbon or whatever material you wish to wrap around the headband. In here, I used a cream crocheted fabric
Small artificial flowers -- just buy a bouquet of them and then pluck them off.
Glue gun
Thin ribbon to use as a tying thing (facultative <-- new vocab word meaning optional)
Scissors

The process was pretty straightforward:

Glue on one end of the ribbon/ fabric you want your headband to be wrapped in.
Glue on the flowers. You can have them more sparse (like mine) or more bountiful.
Glue on the thin ribbon to the inside of the headband. Make sure to leave enough at the ends to be able to comfortably tie around your head.

My eyebrows in the picture on the right look almost
as sparse as the number on flowers on the headband..

Making your own bow back shirt is indubitably simple and takes only a few minutes.

You will need:

A shirt
scissors
small pieces of lace or whatever you want to create your bow with
needle & thread. (you can opt for super glue instead!)

And there you go!

Yay for the continuation of my bow infatuation. (:

DIY Leather Hair Bow

*Note that there are several ways to making a leather hair bow, but this is the way I went about doing it and it worked well for me! ^__^ Enjoy!

Materials needed:

Strip of leather, size depends on how big you want your bow. I used a piece about 13" long and 3" wide.
Super glue* (this is not necessary, but I find that it holds the best. you can opt for some string instead.)
a barrette (mine is 3")
Needle & thread* (may be arbitrary)

10" by 3" piece of black leather. LOL my PSAT book in the background...

3" barrette

Step 1:

Cut the leather into desired shape & glue into a loop.

Step 2: Pinch from the middle into desired bow shape:

Step 3: Add a dot of super glue to the middle point and pinch into place:

Step 4: Take a small 1/2" wide piece of leather to wrap around the center & glue it down:

Step 5: glue the back onto the barrette:

Press firmly

Step 6: for extra security, use needle and thread to sew the barrette onto the bow using the side holes.

Wha-la! 'tis done!

I've been scrolling through a myriad of DIY blogs these past few days, and I am adamant about working on at least one DIY project a week this summer, even during my stay in Peru (which, btw, I am ecstatic about).

I poured smoothie into 1/3 of the glass first, then drizzled Trader Joe's All Natural European Style Yogurt into the center, and then added more smoothie and drizzled more yogurt.

Mmmm the mixture-but-not-mixed smoothie and yogurt is exquisite.

Aussie Aussome Volume Shampoo

Hello all! I know I haven't written a review in centuries...

I stripped myself of my Aussie virginity a few months ago, when I decided to try out this inexpensive and promising-looking bottle of Aussie's Aussome Volume Shampoo. From Aussie's website, it claims to be "infused with White Ginger, cleanses and helps boost hair that’s fallen flat."

I bought the 29.2 fl oz bottle from Walmart for less than $6.

PROS:

love the smell. It's like I dousing my hair in strawberries and apples.
gets your hair SQUEAKY clean. Literally.
it's cheap. obviously.
it gives some volume.

CONS:

Since the main purpose of this shampoo is to give volume, I don't think it does an adequate job at that. there is only a slight bit of noticeable volume, but it falls throughout the day and my hair returns to being flat. (but then again, I have extremely long hair, so maybe it just weighs itself down)
dries out the hair, unsuitable for people with dry scalps

Overall, I give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars! not too Aussome in my opinion, but for the price, it's pretty Possum. (get it? awesome-possum? hahahahah)

Diorshow Extase Mascara Review

OMG. This is the best mascara I have ever used. This magic little thing gives incredible length and definition to my (almost nonexistent) lashes. The formula is not too wet and not too dry, and the brush is brilliant. I love how it separates my lashes so well.

My only discontentment with this product is that it smudges after a few hours, especially if I'm doing something that makes me perspire. I like to put a small coat of Maybelline's The Falsies Waterproof mascara over it, so that it becomes, well, waterproof, and so that it doesn't smudge as much. However, like I said in this video, I hate The Falsies by itself.
