What exactly are the 2009 Top Movies? I've compiled a list of the overall favorite movies for the year of 2009, based on a combination of movies editor's and customer picks in terms of popularity and sales -- it is a list that would be hard to deny! This list contains a fun combination of movies for young adults, "vampirism" - some for the younger among us as well.

Without further adieu, here is a list of the top movies for 2009:

1. Twilight

Twilight (2-Disc Special Edition) - DVD

For many people who are familiar with this, it is a "no brainer"! Twilight has rather taken the world (or at least the US) by storm and has become one of the most watched movies around.

Basic Theme: What happens when an unsuspecting girl meets and falls in love with a vampire (and a rather handsome one at that)?

2. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (DVD)

This Harry Potter movie (coming after the Order of the Phoenix) answers the question, "Who really is the Chosen One?" - and a number of others questions. Not a disappointment, and most definitely worthy of a 2009 Top Movie pick.

3. Disney Pixar Up

Up - DVD

Of all the movies on this list, the Disney Pixar Up movie is my personal favorite! There are some scenes in this movie that will touch you, make you laugh (hard) and pass along some pretty serious smiles. =D Most definitely deserving to be on the "best movies" list for this year - in my humble opinion.

4. Star Trek

Star Trek XI - DVD

A true "Trekkies" dream! This movie is much loved - for good reason. It has plenty of action, adventure, humor and pure movie-watching fun. This is a sort of "before Star Trek" movie, to fill in the watchers on the characters - before they became who they are now known as.

5. The Hangover

The Hangover - DVD

The best way I know how to describe this movie is "in your face funny"! If you are a fan of bold humor that contains a "touch of raunchy", this movie will be a hit. A great movie to watch with buddies who can relate to the title subject of the movie.

Note: This movie is in both "Unrated" and "R" rated versions.

6. Terminator Salvation

Terminator Salvation (Widescreen) - DVD

For anyone and everyone who has seen and enjoyed at least one of the Terminator movies, this "best movie 2009" is a "must see". The story centers around John Connor who is the prophesied salvation for humanity. Lots of excitement and "blow 'em up" scenes that are sure to keep watchers glued to the screen.

7. Fireproof

Fireproof - DVD

Here is a story that combines the theme of love along with the drama and excitement of a firefighter's career. A beautiful love story with some very important life messages to go along with it.

8. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Snow White (2-Disc) - DVD

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a much loved and "forever" classic from Disney, and it makes a huge comeback to be one of the top movies for 2009! Always a beautiful story and a great movie for kids. (And so much fun to watch in digital format!)

9. Quantum of Solace

Quantum of Solace - DVD

James Bond returns (starring Daniel Craig)! 007 goes on a personal quest to "right a wrong" that has cut too deeply. In the process, he uncovers an evil plan to destroy one of our planet's most important natural resources and works to put a stop to it.

10. Slumdog Millionaire

When talking about what "best movies" might be, it's hard to miss the subject of Disney Pixar. These movies are brilliant - they are not only entertaining for children of every age - they are just as entertaining to watch for adults!

There is something in these movies for people of all ages - no matter who!

The Disney Pixar Up Movie - as many people know - is one of the most hilarious movies ever. Even in just it's basic concept (a retired balloon salesman deciding tto take "the ride of his life" is funny, and when other elements are added to this it gets even better. =)

The Toy Story Pixar movie is truly a classic - again (as is true with other Pixar films), this one is entertaining for just about any age or audience. New editions of this movie have become available - and they're even more entertaining in formats such as Blu-Ray.

Toy Story 2 (Single Disc DVD)

Yes, the Toy Story 2 Pixar Movie is just as entertaining as the first. (And I understand a "Toy Story 3" is on it's way!) It's hard to beat the humor involved of Woody's friends hunting him down in a high-traffic area in a city! Extremely entertaining and it varies enough from the first movie to not have any "stale" quality about it whatsoever.

4. Monsters Inc.

Monsters, Inc. (DVD - Collector's Edition)

The subject matter of the Monsters Inc. Pixar movie might seem a little bit "scary" for very little ones, but overall it's presentation is quite cute and is a fun movie for all ages. In my opinion the cutest element of all is how a "big blue scary monster" could fall in love with a precious little girl and how they become such good friends.

5. Finding Nemo

Finding Nemo (DVD 2-Disc Collector's Edition)

The Finding Nemo Pixar movie is also a movie that will likely always be considered a "classic". It is an adorable story about a father who is trying to protect his son - perhaps a bit too much. (An idea many of us parents can appreciate!) Always a good movie to watch.

6. Disney Pixar Cars

Cars (DVD - Widescreen)

The Disney Cars Pixar movie seems to be a "tried and true" favorite of very young men. =) (At least that is true in my experience.) This is not only a great story, it has some serious musical talent "along for the ride"! Awesome movie all around.

Wall-E (DVD - Single Disc)

The Wall-E Pixar movie is not just "any old kids movie" - there is definitely a message in there for adults as well. Wall-E becomes a true hero - despite the careless actions of earth's planetary inhabitants! This is a heart-warming story that I believe anyone would enjoy.

Ratatouille - DVD

What happens when a hungry rat in Paris tries to find "only the best" cuisine? You will find out when you see the Ratatouille Pixar movie, which is definitely a fun movie to watch for all.

9. The Incredibles

Welcome to a world where superheros really do exist! That's the basic theme of The Incredibles Pixar movie. It has some fun "twists and turns" and "what if's" as well - such as "What if there was a that was able to transform into different life forms and scare the life out of the babysitter? Amazingly funny movie.

10. Pixar Short Films Collection

The Pixar Short Film Collection is not a "movie" in itself, but (as the name implies) is "a little bit of everything" thrown into one. This is a collection of the "Shorts" that normally come with the Pixar movies, and are available through the main menu. There are some hysterical movies that can be seen - my personal favorite being "Mater and the Ghostlight" from the Disney Pixar Cars DVD.

From the maker of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "James and the Giant Peach" comes another amazing animated movie - Coraline.

This movie is a bit on the "dark" side and may not be the best choice for very young children, but is quite entertaining for kids who are a bit older. (Rated PG)

Especially a great choice for the High School Musical fans comes High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

Having the fact of graduation lying ahead, Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Chad, Ryan and Taylor decide to do something to make their remaining days unforgettable. Quite entertaining and fun to watch!

I was so delighted to see the Pinocchio 70th Anniversary Edition come to the forefront for 2009! This is one of the most delightful movies for children ever - with some pretty important messages as well! =)

On a personal note - I have never failed to see that nasty old witch scare very little ones, but is a good movie for kids as they get a bit older, at least in my opinion.

Coming in at #9 of the Best Movies for Kids 2009 is the Monsters vs. Aliens movie. Theme: What if monsters really did exist - but they weren't all bad like stories and movies make them out to be? In fact, what if they actually were critical to the survival of our planet?

A cute story and definitely a good one for kids. =)

Billy Murray plays the part well and adds more than a little bit of spice to the story!

Here is one of many animated Christmas classics in a series that feature Burl Ives. These are some of the most loved movies ever - with the Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer movie taking the lead (of course!).

However, this version of the movie was made during the times of WWII, and the acting is not only good - it's actually quite amazing! "Scrooge" in this movie is played by Alastair Sim, and it is truly an amazing performance.
