Whilst we are getting some nice buzz in the blogosphere, there is another similar website that is currently getting more attention than us at the moment.

Created a few days after we launched, this website lists 500 words instead of 1000, sells at a lower price and allows users to add color and underline to their words but the concept remains exactly the same as The 1000-Word Page. This site belongs to a highly respected on-line entrepreneur who has many contacts and a solid network in the on-line business industry. He was able to marshal those resources to sell much faster than us and get more coverage than us with our modest resources.

It is not the first time a creative idea is getting squeezed by people with larger resources and we are cool with that.

However, at The 1000-Word Page, we believe kudos should be given to their original creator: we were inspired by The Million Dollar HomePage and we acknowledged that in our FAQ. We can only regret that the author of this copycat website never acknowledged the fact that he was inspired by The 1000-Word Page but no one ever said life was fair.

It is not our intent to compete head to head against this copycat website. We had some discussion on a specialized forum about that and it has backfired for us. A friend of this entrepreneur who had a distribution deal with us has decided to walk out of his agreement because he was "displeased to see how his friend was treated on that forum". We were surprised by this: you can call us many things but we have never shown disrespect to a competitor, nor have we walked out of a deal once agreed. That's why we are sticking to our side of the deal with this person.

Finally and more importantly, we want to thank our first customers. Traffic may have been higher on the copycat site but we still believe our positioning is genuine and will attract more coverage in the long run. Stick with us and be sure your investment will pay since we are working on other creative ideas to promote this site.

We have a marketing teacher here at the University who kept on telling us: "Listen to the voice of the customer..." Turns out we did not forget that lesson and that's why we have changed the way outgoing links are now managed.

Some of our existing customers have asked us to stop using the meta-redirect and use a direct link instead to link to external pages and that's what we have just done. It's on-line now...

We should have done it from the very beginning but we liked the idea of having a temporary page to create some suspens... But one has to adapt and it is much better for our clients now to have a direct link.

Keep on sending your suggestions since we want to provide the best service on The 1000-Word Page.
