Not So Black Friday

Thanksgiving has come and gone, It's my favorite holiday and so each year I tend to throw myself into the prep. The Friday after Thanksgiving is usually my day to unwind, and yes occasionally par-take in the discount shopping. But this year we had a family day instead. My husband and I took Leila to Kidspace Museum. It was fun watching her enjoy each activity. Once we finished up we headed over Foster Freeze for Burgers and Ice Cream, Yum. All in all it was a great day.

This past week Leila was home all week, thanks to California School cutbacks. But I welcomed the time with my little diva. On one of our Mother Daughter days we went to the Park and packed a Picnic to eat while we were there. It was a perfect day and one I'll hold close to my heart.

The Admiral has always had the privilege of playing outside. But over the weekend he came home with two large cactus thorns in the back of his leg. I thought I had successfully removed all prickers, but on Sunday my daughter came to me with my old iPhone (her new toy) and photo of our Admiral's Paw. One pricker which I had never seen was still stuck in the top of his Paw but this one looked bad. So off to the Vet we went. What I hoped would be a quick visit and a small fee turned into a Stay for the Admiral, Minor Surgery, and a WHOPPING bill. It will be a while before he's a back to 100%. For now the Admiral is confined to the Barracks!

So of the many stages of pregnancy there is one stage that I would say I'm really crap at. Nesting. I go through it like all women do but I am a terrible house wife. I lack the one major skill of a good house wife. I suck at cleaning the home. I can do all the bonus things great house wives do, I'm a good cook, a strong baker, I can Crochet a blanket, hats, and a newscarf for everyone in the family, Heck I can sew a Ball gown for you, but when it comes to cleaning I just don't have the will. I have to state that when I do clean it's fairly thorough, the parts I actually clean that is. For example I have a Pile of Dishes that need to be washed and a Pile of clothes that simply need to get put away. I will wash the dishes till they sparkle but leave the pile for a week, usually longer. I commit to the one task but give up on the fifty others that have to be done. I'm terrible.

Growing up I had chores and I learned to do them correctly but I waited till the very last second to do them. I have always hated housework. My parents didn't really believe in housekeepers, why should they when they had four children. Not till those children got older did my mother start getting help occasionally from a cleaning lady but even that was short lived. My Mother-in-Law is a different story. She does the house cleaning but still brings in a cleaning lady every week. She of course has a very clean and put together home.

So back to Nesting. I am in the nesting phase of my pregnancy and so I have been working hard (for me) at cleaning the home. But it's not enough. So I called in reinforcements. I've never hired a cleaning lady before, as I mentioned my Mother barely had one so I had no real experience. But my Mother-in-Law does, and she has a great cleaning lady, Hilda. So I asked Hilda if she could come in and give me a hand. I got so much more then I thought I would from Hilda. I figured a little vacuuming, dusting, polishing the wood, you know cosmetic stuff. She did that but she did SO MUCH MORE. She moved the couch and cleaned underneath (SCARY), she moved my Stove and cleaned all around (EVEN SCARIER), and then she cleaned my toaster Oven (Whoa!). I am dumfounded and I really wish I had known because I would have cleaned more before she came... : /

Which brings me to my current state....TOTAL GUILT!

I feel like a real bum for asking this woman to come in here at clean my families mess. I thought it would be ok that it would be such a small job. But with the way this woman cleans I feel horrible. I had no idea we were this bad. Oh well the deed is done. But now I know what real cleaning looks like and how miserably I've been failing at it. At least I can Bake!

Maternity Clothing Nightmare

So I have never had much success in the Maternity clothing department. In fact I would actually dare to say I HATE maternity clothing options. I have yet to find a one stop company that I can load up on Maternity clothes. And the worse part is the fact that you really only need them for the last four months (which varies from woman to woman and with each pregnancy!). This pregnancy I am much bigger. Most didn't notice right away but I did. I was having issues with clothing in my Third Month. Swear my hips widened again! I think I was pushing the limits of my bottoms before the pregnancy and the moment I started growing even by a few centimeters I felt it in my waistband!

I can't exactly remember how badly I dressed while pregnant with Leila but the lack of photos during that time suggests it was bad. I didn't buy many items, that much I remember. Again I HATE most Maternity clothing. And of course the items I do like are in the $150-$300 mark. Sorry but NO WAY, not for an item with a short shelf life. I prefer clothing purchases with a little more bang for the buck thank you! To be honest I have qualms with items in the $50 dollar mark even, well at least a top for $50. I'm already dropping a small fortune on Baby prep I don't want to spend even more money on temporary clothing. And the evil catch of it all is that every maternity company sets there prices around the same range. They know that at some point a woman has to give in and buy the belly pants at the very least.

Since this pregnancy I have a much larger belly, pointy as well (sure sign it's a Boy), I have had to give in to the maternity clothing devil. So I've been researching like crazy lately. And to my surprise I've had more success then I did in the past. I have rediscovered Old Navy recently. Now it's not very stylish but it's a perfect place to get my basics and build on those. And the pants are not only very affordable but comfy, who knew?! So my basics are covered now the really hard part, Fashionable pieces. Here is where I hit a few walls. Sorry to those who love them but I really don't like Motherhood or Pea in a Pod. Just not nearly cute enough and the few that get close are outrageously priced. A girlfriend mentioned to me that H&M had jumped on the maternity band-wagon, but I can't find a store within the city that carries it and online they only show a total of 24 pieces. WEAK SAUCE! Then I made a huge discovery, ASOS.com! I love their selection of standard women's clothing and now they offer Maternity! The cherry on top of this sundae was that they were having a sale when I went on. So my shopping cart grew from a planned two pieces to 10 pieces, all under $175. SCORE!

Enough talk, take a look at some of the items I found. I even threw in sites I loved but wasn't really up for buying.

Election day is tomorrow and well I know I'm hyped up! I've always been a very political person with strong(not always perfect) opinions. And this election is no exception. First off to all possible Republican's reading this best you walk away now. I am most Certainly a Democrat. Almost a given since I'm Latin and in California. Los Angeles specifically so that just makes it a huge DUH. But I grew up with highly educated parents who had very strong Morals and beliefs and with that came what they felt was their responsibility to take part. They worked with Cesar Chavez when I was a young girl and we stayed with the United Farm Workers till Cesar passed away. Both of my parents work with the Gay rights group in our Church. And my Father gave up a Marketing career to become a teacher, because he felt educating the youth of our nation was a much more important job. So I had some really strong role models.

For a very long time I thought I would become a Lawyer. Even started on that path, but as you know got pulled away by Fashion. I haven't let go of my passion for Civics. Election years are when you really see me worked up. I couldn't get through any of the debates without yelling at the television. Yes I'm that person.

This election has me especially riled up because of all these "undecided voters". I won't get too in to this, but I don't think there could be two candidates so different from one another. Surely one of them has to be closer to your ideal then the other. I also feel our President has been given a really bad wrap for the Economy. This is the worst state our economy has ever been in and our President has done a lot of great work to get us out of it. Sure it still sucks out there, I know first hand, but to blame him or to say he's not working hard enough just isn't true. And the snake Oil Salesman (Romney) is not going to do better. His lack of basic Math should be a dead give away.

I realize posting political views is a blogger no-no, but as I said strong political views. Forgive my rant, but hopefully I reached a few people out there. Don't forget to Vote tomorrow!

All New Adventures!

Hello Again!
So last I posted I shared I was prepping for a wedding. Well surprise to us a week before the ceremony we found out I was Pregnant. Holy Moses! It was a shocker but a good one. Actually to be perfectly honest there was one person who wasn't surprised at all. In fact there was a lady who knew there was a baby on the way and even knew it would be a little boy. Our Daughter Leila predicted the pregnancy long before we even knew. Apparently i have a Psychic in the family.

So now I'm a walking belly and actually living a very different life then before. The title of this blog should probably be changed to The Accidental House Wife. Unfortunately a week after informing my work of my pregnancy I was "let go". And so now I'm devoting my days to my Family. The timing may have actually been the best thing to happen to me, Leila started Kindergarten this past August and there has been some adjusting. Things have happened that I was certain were signs of the apocalypse. I joined the PTA, I'm a room Parent (I'll explain later), and essentially I've become a helicopter parent.

I feel I have to explain why, within three weeks of school starting my sweet little girl was slapped in the face by a bully. I immediately went to the school and tried to get my child justice with no luck. At that moment I learned if you aren't an active parent they don't give you much attention. So PTA it was! Along with any other event I could get into. All while growing a little person in my belly. It's been an Adventure for me. Before I was a working Mom trying to balance family and work, now I'm all family and taking on things I didn't think I ever would.

I'm still a fashion Lover and so rest assured there will still be plenty of Fashion in this blog but there will be a new mix of content. I hope you enjoy!

Oil Method

So while I was in Houston I had plenty of down time in the evenings and came across a very interesting Blog post about the Oil Cleansing Method. I was a little shocked but I kept reading. The whole idea is washing your face with Oil and not Soap. If you're a acne prone person this probably doesn't sound very smart but they say it works for even severe Acne. Anyway as I read it I found myself rather intrigued and thought why not.
Let me explain why. I have had problems with Adult acne. Especially after giving birth to my daughter. Suddenly I had crazy breakouts that were not only HUGE but even painful at times. So not pretty! And the more acne stuff I used the worse it got. And to be truthful I am easily sold by Acne Face washes. I have bought a large range of products and none have really helped. So I stopped everything. I started using Purpose soap and Aveeno moisturizer. Nothing fancy! And it was better but I was still getting black heads and the occasional breakout. I needed to try something else. But what was there that wasn't going to cost me a fortune? So I left well enough alone, and I have settled with my skin for years now.
So in reading this article I was interested because here was an all new approach and one that wasn't going to cost too much. I have OILY skin as well. so the idea of adding oil to my skin had me worried as well. But I tried it and I've been using it for two weeks now. And I LOVE it. I followed the recipe for oily skin with one small exception I added a little bit of Tea Tree Oil. I love the aromatherapy I get from it and of course it's great for acne. Let me just say my skin hasn't been oily at all. I used to have to use those oil blotting papers nearly everyday but I haven't since I started this method. Another great benefit is that this actually takes off all my eye makeup. Warning if you add Tee tree oil like I did be careful, if you follow the original recipe exactly then you'll be fine. But it works!
The Key component is Castor Oil it's the real cleanser, then you add a moisturizing oil to thin it and to balance it's effects. I used a cosmetic Olive Oil. To Much Castor Oil and your face will feel tight and dried out like you used real soap. So they recommend you add more of your moisturizing oil if your face feels this way after. Funny enough I started feel that after a few washes and so I had to adjust my mix.I still put Moisturizer on after each wash and once again I don't have oily skin! It fells soft and Dewy it's amazing.
When I first started I had two large breakouts on my chin they cleared in two days. The areas of my face that tend to be prone to Blackheads seem to be clearing. What used to take two pore strips and a serious steaming now seam to be rising to the top and clearing on their own. Enough of the gross stuff, you get the point. This is working. I don't know about those of you with truly severe Acne but if you've tried everything else why not try this?! Any way here is the website for this method. She gets a little new age at one point, the blog where I read about this warned me as well but when I came to it I still rolled my eyes. Just keep reading and try for yourself!

So I'm back to work and so far it's no problem, but Shows are coming up and I'm getting more and more nervous. The product I sell tends to sell best for a particular group of people. Rockabilly! I am not rockabilly. I know this but I do appreciate a vintage inspired dress Ala Mad Men or Pan Am. The February Vogue had a spread with Vintage style pieces that I was drooling over.We have some styles similar to that feel but for the most part our product is Pin Up and Rockabilly. These are very different things mind you. So what have been up to?
Studying!!!! And big surprise I'm out of my League, but I'm loving it. This "Scene" is fascinating! These people seen like such fun and so far they have been so sweet! I feel like I'm on an alien planet. Anyway I'll be happy to share more experiences as they happen but right now I wanted to share some of my research and a few sites that below to my customers.

Hello!
So I figured it was time for another Fashion Icon Piece. The last two had such great results, Thanks for that Folks. This posts Fashion Icon Is Brigitte Bardot "A sex Symbol through the Ages" according to Time magazine. And I would personally have to agree. This woman is the reason woman aren't hitting the beaches in huge one pieces. Brigitte is the reason the Bikini became popular and has become the staple it is today. She starred in the film "the Girl in the Bikini" and made this radical new swim suit an instant success. She was gorgeous! The only other woman in history who has even come close as far as being a sex symbol would have to be Marilyn Monroe.
What I loved most about her was her Curves! She wasn't a twig she had healthy curves that drove men mad. I respect her for that and really wish we could get back to that type of mentality again. Curves are GOOD!

Thick, Dark, And sexy Lashes. Falsies will be required to get that look.
Thick Black eye liner.
A big Pouty mouth doesn't hurt also. I'd use a Lip Plumping gloss with a light tint.
Other then Mascara and Liner she tends to keep the face make up simple and Natural another thing I love. She was proud of her body and happy to show it off but always strategically covered.

Vice Admiral Fuzzy Von Mittens

So a lot happened during my down time, but one significant thing happened. I became a cat lady. At least that's what my lovely friend Byron calls me now. But this past November we made an addition to our little family. We adopted a cat. We got him from one of the Cat rescue groups that are always at Petco on Saturdays. At first we thought it would be easy. Fill out a paper, pay a fee, and get a cat. nope these are hardcore folks and so they had to review our application they met all three of us and then checked out our home. It was intense.
But we got a cat. His name was already decided on before we even decided to get him. Gary has always had cats that have some sort of military rank. His childhood cat being Captain Meowser. And then he even convinced his sister to add a rank to her cat, Sergeant Pepper. But he was saving a special name for when he would have a cat of his own and that is how my cat got the longest name in the world! Vice Admiral Fuzzy Von Mittens. He was hoping he'd get a tough cat that could live indoors and outdoors, but the Admiral is a house cat. He was bottle fed as a baby and so he's a cuddler. Right away he and I hit it off. He's very patient and so he can handle Leila's craziness. But most of all he's got character.
He's been a great addition to the home and so from time to time you may see him in this blog. So I wanted to formally introduce you to the Admiral.

Even when he's allowed to go out side he prefers to just look.

I was so excited to see a turn in fashion trends and a growing popularity in Twenties styles. But My jaw nearly dropped out when I saw Albertta Feretti's Pre-Fall 2012 Collection. It is all Twenties inspired pieces. I was drooling over all of it. I figured we would see this trend come back soon with the much anticipated Remake of The great Gatsby, but I never thought it would hit before the Film release. The pieces in this collection are, simply put, Gorgeous! I had to share. I hope you enjoy these as much as I did.

Changing the Look of Beautiful

This past week there was an article released which raised a few eyebrows in the Fashion world. Personally it seemed like a long time coming to me. The change in model sizes has been a hot button issue for some time now but it seems to me that it's becoming an inevitable thing now. Current runway models and even print models are so thin they look as though they should be on those adopt a child programs. "For only 50 cents a day you can feed a model." It's sick really.
Personally I have always had issue with this. I love fashion because I think clothing and the design of it is beautiful. I think clothing should be made to flatter the body. We shouldn't have to Change our bodies to fit or flatter an outfit. As I type this I know I'm guilty of being caught up in this craziness. Didn't I just tell you about the numerous types of spanx I own? So there you go even I'm guilty.
In this January issue of Plus Model Magazine they released an article that added fuel to the fire that is the Model Debate. Photos of Plus Size Model Katya Zharkova completely naked with Facts about size and Models around her. The model herself looks beautiful. But it's the facts that make my stomach turn. The most jarring being that "Most runway models meet the body mass index physical criteria for anorexia." I'm telling you we all need to adopt a model and feed her!
Of course this article is only the most recent article to spotlight the fashion industries adherence to THEIR Standards of Norm. In the past year there was an increase of Trans gender models as well. Lea T the most famous of them all has been burning a new path for all. She was the first Transgender model to be featured in a Swim Campaign, A Brazilian Label Named Blue Man. And was even photographed by Fashion Photography icon Terry Richardson. She made it possible for models such as Adrej Pejic and newest model Valentijn de Hingh to even have a chance. Let me just say that if no one had told me Lea T was once a man I never would have guessed. She's gorgeous!!! I'm actually very jealous.

But there it is. The world is changing. Fashion is all about change, well at least it should be. And although not everyone is on board with these recent changes I'm sure they too will come along sooner or later. Let's start with feeding the models though. It's a fairly easy change to make. Anorexia just isn't pretty.

The Importance of Underwear!

Yes I said Underwear. But what I really mean is under garments. It's around that time of year when my clutter has grown to such an extent that I have to start getting rid of stuff. This happens about four times each year. Right ow it's really bad. So I started going through things and immediately gave up.
Why? What could possibly have scared me so quickly? My underwear drawer. Actually Drawers! I have four in total. Two in my dresser and two in my closet. It's a bit insane.
As I have gotten older and I hope wiser I've learned that there are certain undergarments necessary for specific outfits. About seven years back I discovered Spanx for myself and so I have a whole collection of those. Then came Slips, and Girdles, and all kinds of horribly uncomfortable undergarments that helped me look good.
Staring at this collection of stuff had me dizzy! It so funny how quickly life can change. I used to strongly object to the existence of the Thong let alone the G-string. I just couldn't handle them. But then a friend pointed out my panty lines at a dance (yes we're talking High school) and that was it. I bought the Thong. I hated it, I'm certain we all do! So I tried a G String, That wasn't any better. But of course it cured my Panty line problem. That was it! The Thong was like my Gateway drug! Once you start there is no going back. And the moment I gave into the Spanx, well those are like Crack. They are the hardcore stuff you just can't go without. Once you go Spanx you never go back! Other simple things started getting thrown into the mix. With the trend of long skirts coming back I found use of Slips again, especially extra Long Slips for all those Maxi Skirts from last year.
It was like an Avalanche of Spandex, Silk, and Cotton. Special bras that won't show and special bras that are meant to show. Tights ad Leggings in Every color and Pattern. Corsets, Girdles to be more accurate. the ever growing collection of Spanx for every possible cut of dress. It's unending. And the worst part of it all Is I can't bring myself to get rid of a single thing.
And so My Winter Clean up will have to begin somewhere else. Perhaps my Socks. That should be easy enough.... : /

Time to Get back to Work!

Hello Folks! Well actually at this point all readers of this sad excuse for a Blog have probably given up hope. I don't blame you. I would to if I were you! But it's a new year! Of course we have all set our New Year's Resolutions. Mine are simple and kind of vague just so it's easier for me to keep them. All but one that is. That one being to really try to work on my blog this year. I plan to actually organize my posts and give you guys some sort of consistency and structure and hopefully make this a blog worth reading. As for my other Resolutions I have no problems sharing couple with you.

Get Healthy
Yes Vague but let me tell you what that has meant so far. I'm actually trying to work out more then Once every two weeks. I've already made huge changes to my diet. And I'm trying to cut back on the unhealthy snacks. For example Each day I find myself craving sweets. It's my biggest vice. Desserts! They call my name everyday, all day. Now I haven't shaken the habit yet but I'm working on taking control of it. Rather then eat the Candy or the ice cream I want I snack on something else that's better for me. Lately I've swapped out my craving for a Snickers for Almond Pecan Crunch. It's slightly sweet so I think I'm getting what I want but It's a small bite and ten times better for me! Yeah Me! We'll see how long it lasts. I'm staying positive but I have to admit I have a horrible track record.

Stay Positive!!

Easy right? You'd think but I last year I found myself in not so pretty mind sets and I don't want to go there again. I've started a new Job, close to home, easier hours, and so far significantly less stress! So I am enjoying my time and living a life. And when life throws me it's usual curve balls I'm trying to stay cool. Again We'll see how long this lasts but so far so good.

Pretty Basic stuff Huh? yeah but, and I know I'm not alone in this, we all loose track of these simple things and let all the other stuff get in the way. This year I'm keeping it simple and hopefully everything else will follow. Feel free to join me in my quest!
