In this podcast and the next "part 2," Jerry share the many other "co-morbid" conditions, disorders, and common problems that are common among our genetic slice of the general population. We may or may not experience these condition, but there are probably others in our family or extended family who do. We have the genetic predisposition, but our level of stress and family history will determine what additional co-morbid conditions/disorder we may experience. But these all need to be documented and do add to our claim for equal access rights.

More misfits misfire! This brain "misfire" is commonly called Tourettes Syndrome (TS). But the world's leading expert on TS calls it "ADD with Tics." We know that, but most ADDers don't. Those "misfires" cause our brains to tilt. The results are "sub-type." But it's just our brains trying to compensate for the imbalance it feels. It is a brain tilt that can cause great confusion among the 30% of ADDers who have TS in some form. We have no idea why we do what we do, and many of us were punished and belittled because of tics we couldn't control.

If I could, I'd upload this audio chapter from "Born Losers or Leaders" every time somebody goes on a killing spree in America. If I tried to do that, I'd be uploading it every other week! Once the dust settles and all the talking-heads start talk about the killer's background, so many are ADD. But what ever the struggle...they felt like "misfits." Never fails: the talking heads all say, "We just didn't see it coming." My answer for them is "Bull!" This podcast will put it all in perspective. Jerry and Dennis are together by phone and record this update about their lives and the ministry of Spirit of Hope. Jerry shares some insights on "burn-out"---a dark step beyond depression. He reads a self-diagnostic list from booklet/article by Dr. Archibald Hart "Burnout---A Blessing in Disguise." Burnout is different than depression. Burnout is especially common among people who care for other people in some way. Many caregivers are parents or family members or professional caregivers. But this also includes people who become emotionally enmeshed and entangled with others. his is commonly called “codependency.” According to Dr. Archibald Hart, “A body system exhausted by overwork, pushed beyond reasonable endurance, and depleted of resources could become burned out. In essence, extreme states of burnout will comprise most, if not all of the following:
***Demoralization—the belief you are no longer effective in your life, work, or career.
***Depersonalization—the treatment of yourself and others in an impersonal way.
***Detachment—the withdrawal from all responsibilities.
***Distancing—the avoidance of social and interpersonal contacts.
***Defeatism—the feeling of being beaten and the loss of any hope that things will change or get better.

Remember, neither depression or burnout is bad. It’s the mind and body’s protective programming. It provides the opportunity to change, heal, and grow. Think of it as a field trip—a learning experience. Imagine what a caterpillar must go through during the transition to butterfly!

Two chapters from "Born Losers or Leaders" audio Book (one after the other). These may be the most important chapters in the book! Why? The issue of our values is a mystery to most people and especially distracted or driven ADDers. Know it or not, I pay attention to what I value. My thoughts, feelings, and focus are NOT determined by the conduct of the others or the circumstances of my life. My myopic view, moods, and misery all are determined by the values in my heart. And like me, many of us ADDers do not value ourselves as we should. Because of our need to "pass for normal" and "fit in" and "fake it," we have valued what others think of us. And so we pay attention to them, cater to them, please them, and to give our best to them. The wound in our hearts has made us worthless to ourselves.
