Its amazing to witness how diverse Filipino cuisine has become. And speaking of “diverse”, it’s even more fascinating how our kababayans apply both creativity and resourcefulness to come up with the next big dish. For some, it’s an issue of survival while ethnic groups do it in the name of their age-old traditions.
So rich is our culture that bizarre Filipino foods came sprouting everywhere. Listed below are some of the weirdest foods to ever come across the Filipino taste buds. Let your eyes and imagination be the judge.

10. Soup No. 5

Made from: Bull’s testes and penis.

Yuck factor: If you’re a brave foodie and looking for the next aphrodisiac to try, Soup no. 5 should be a hot pick. But not for those whose stomach turns at the sight of exotic foods. For one, Soup no. 5 is made from a bull’s sex organs—considered by many as the “fifth leg” of the animal, hence the name. Cebuanos know it as “lanciao” and is believed to give the physical attributes of a bull to anyone willing to take a sip.
Nutrition-wise, a serving of Soup no. 5 gives less zinc (the mineral which increases libido) when cooked. Nevertheless, it remains a fantastic choice for those who are either bored with bulalo or craving for an unusual beer match. [Image source]

9. Sundot Kulangot

Made from: Gelatinous rice (kalamay) cooked with brown sugar and coconut milk.

Yuck factor: By just its name alone, sundot kulangot can scare away picky eaters. It literally means “poke a snot” or “pick a booger”, describing the bizarre way of eating it. But despite its name, there’s nothing gross about this traditional candy.
Packaged within small wooden orbs, sundot kulangot are actually sweet, pinch-sized delicacies that taste like our traditional coconut jams. One must break the orb and use either a popsicle stick or one’s own finger to get a taste of the candy. Thanks to its tedious preparation, sundot kulangot is now becoming a rarity with its limited supply being sold in Baguio City and other Northern Luzon provinces. [Image source]

8. Crispy Chicken Nails

Made from: Chicken nails (Yes. Those sharp, pointed parts that usually end up in the thrash bin).

Yuck factor: You don’t need a graphic imagination to realize that feet are one of the dirtiest parts of the body—be it in chickens or humans. Yet, most of us won’t mind eating chicken feet either as adobo or sinigang. For some people, however, the term “waste not, want not” also means that no part of the chicken, including its nails, is ignored. In fact, an episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho featured how to properly clean, prepare, and fry the breaded chicken nails. 7. Balut

Made from: Eleven-day old duck egg, boiled to perfection.

Yuck factor: If you have ever watched past seasons of Fear Factor or Survivor, then you probably know how horrified foreigners can be by the mere sight of balut. For them, tasting a balut is worse than skydiving without a parachute. In fact, balut has long been known as El Dorado of bizarre edible items. But do all Filipinos think otherwise? Judging by the slimy texture and the bizarre appearance of the feathery duck fetus, I’m sure a lot of Filipinos detest balut as well. 6. Kamaru

Made from: Mole or rice field crickets.

Yuck factor: The fact that it emerged from the country’s culinary capital means there’s something delectable about kamaru. But for non-Kapampangans, it’s harder to muster the courage to feast on this exotic dish, especially when the image of dirty, crawling insects keep on popping up. The unusual crunchiness and the juice coming out from the insect’s abdomen also add up to its “yucky” factor. But if prepared and cooked right, perhaps an adobong kamaru may inspire the adventure foodie out of you. [Image source]

5. Pinikpikan

Made from: Native chicken beaten to death through a process called “pikpik” from which the dish got its name.

Yuck factor: The Bontoc tribe of the Cordillera region must have been hated by animal welfare groups. Blame it on traditions but this group prefers to torture their chickens before boiling it with salt and cured pork (etag). They believe that lightly beating the chicken with a stick tenderizes and boosts the flavor of the meat. But utmost care is required to get that perfect Pinikpikan. An ideal chicken should not be bloody after beating with its bones still intact. [Image source]

4. Tuslob-Buwa

Made from: Pork brain and liver cooked with chili, salt, and other spices.

Yuck factor: Resourceful Filipinos will always find a way to make the most of what they have. And that includes making sure that no part of the swine goes into waste. In Pasil, Cebu, for instance, pork brain and liver are cooked thoroughly with spices until the sauce thickens. You know the dish is ready to serve when bubbles appear in the surface which then explains why Tuslob-Buwa literally means “dipping bubble”. Anyone can get a taste of this exotic dish as long as you buy rice ball (which locals call “puso”) from street peddlers. Tuslob-buwa perfectly complements the rice ball the way dinuguan does to puto. 3. Lepeg

Made from: Fermented rice or the residue from which tapuy or rice wine is extracted.

Yuck factor: Important celebrations in Mountain Province won’t be complete without a bottle of traditional rice wine called tapuy. Just like their intricate ceremonies, the process of making this alcoholic drink is also a bit complex and time-consuming. A special variety of cooked red rice called balatinaw is left fermenting inside a jar for 20 days. Once the liquid part (tapuy) is harvested, the residue (lepeg) is then served with fresh chicken blood. The taste is a bit sour while the long process of storage gives lepeg a distinct or even repulsive smell.

2. Tamilok

Made from: Raw tamilok (shipworm) marinated in a mixture of vinegar, chili, and onions.

Yuck factor: It’s slimy, salty, and nowhere near appetizing. But to make your Palawan adventure memorable, local guides will tell you that tamilok is really worth a try. Tamilok usually bores into wooden structures and mangroves that are abundant in the municipalities of Coron, El Nido, and Linapacan. Eating a tamilok also means munching on pests because these creatures destroys every wood they come across, giving them the name “termites of the sea”. [Image source]

Made from: Native pork that is cured by either smoking or storing in earthen jars for weeks (binurong baboy)
Yuck factor: Etag is Sagada’s official ham. In fact, this patent-pending meat delicacy has a festival named after it. Etag is prepared by salting the pork and curing it either by smoking or storing in earthen jars for several weeks. Foul-smelling, dark, and rotting with maggots, the final product is exactly not for the faint at heart. Nevertheless, Cordillera traditions won’t be complete without this local meat favorite. What can you do if you are being bullied by your Friends?

You think you’re a good person and you don’t make anyone mad, at least not on purpose. So what do you do if you are bullied? Should you let it happen? Here are tips on what you can do if you are being bullied:

Tell an adult. Many young women fear telling an adult because they don’t want to look like a snitch or seem weak. However, adults can help end the bullying. Also, it may make you feel better to tell an adult.
Stand up for yourself. Believe it or not, this will help you gain respect from others. Practice what you might say to a bully with a friend, your mirror, or an adult. Practice saying it in a firm, confident voice. You may even encourage others to protect themselves from bullying, too.
Tell the bully to stop. Calmly walk away. Believe in yourself and tell others how you feel and what you think. You will gain respect from others. Also, by leading the way and showing others that you can’t be bullied, you can help prevent bullying in the future. You can also encourage others to protect themselves from bullying.
Do not fight back! It’s hard to do, but walk away from a bully and ignore them. If you give in

to a bully and fight back, you could end up getting in trouble instead of the bully! If someone is hurting you physically, try to call for help or get away fast and get help from an adult.
Lighten the air! Make a joke to lighten up the mood. Say something funny to distract the people involved.
Make new friends and get involved. Making friends, and having interests and extracurricular activities, will make you feel better about yourself and the bullying situation. Don’t blame yourself. It’s important for you to know that it’s not your fault. No one deserves to be treated this way. If you’re being bullied, try to stop it either by yourself or with help from an adult.

It’s important to feel confident and have good self-esteem. Even if you don’t feel it at the moment, acting like you do will help. You like a girl and you want her to like you back. You think you might even want her to be your girlfriend. How do you make that happen?
There's no one-size-fits-all formula -- every girl's unique, after all -- but you can improve your chances if you follow some simple suggestions.

Clean Up Your Act

Let's start with the obvious: Before you ask a girl out, take a shower so that you don't smell as if you’ve never heard of soap.
"It's a little bit of a stereotype that boys smell," says Wake Forest University psychologist Andrew Smiler, PhD. "By 14 and 15, most are showering daily and don't need to be told."
If you're always squeaky clean, cool. But a reminder never hurts -- better safe than sorry.

Dress to Impress

How you present yourself matters. Long before you get close enough for her to get a whiff of you, she'll notice that your hair's a mess and that you're wearing clothes that you yanked out of the laundry hamper. So put your comb to good use and pull on a pair of clean jeans.
Why? She wants you to make an effort. If you do, that will impress her.
"If you want to date someone who looks nice, you better look nice, too, because it’s clearly important to her," Smiler says.

Out on the Town

Girls like to be asked out on dates, says Maureen E. Lyon, PhD. (Of course, it's fine for her to ask you out, too.)
If you’re doing the asking, you need to decide what you’re going to do -- and you should also expect to pay for it.
"Dutch treat is just for friends," says Lyon, an adolescent psychologist at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Don't know a girl well? Get together with some friends -- group activities are good ice-breakers, Lyon says. Invite her to a free concert with a bunch of friends or see if she likes to play sports and ask her along to a pickup game. Just don’t invite her over to your house to hang out in your room, Lyon says. That’s creepy.
And no matter what the two of you do, the date’s not over until you’ve seen her to her door.
"Don't take her out for coffee then leave her to find her own way home," Lyon says. "Give her a ride home or ride the bus or train with her. It's a nice thing to do, she'll appreciate it -- plus, it gives you more time to hang out."

Be a Friend

If you want a girl to like you, show her that what she says matters to you. How? Shut up and listen. Sitting still so that you can really hear what she has to say is a big part of dating.
Has she had a bad day? Let her tell you about it without interrupting -- just like you would with your best friend.
"When your best friend tells you he's got a problem that he can't figure out, you listen and don't cut him off, right?" Smiler asks. "Same thing applies to someone you are interested in. You want her to know that you get where she's coming from."

Say Something Nice

So, you've taken a girl out on a date and you've had a great time. You want to see her again. Make sure she knows that you like her.
"If you have a kind thought about her, say it," Lyon says.
For some guys, though, being up front about how you feel can be difficult. No problem. There are other things you can say.
"A girl will like hearing back from you," Lyon says. "If you have trouble telling her you like her, mention something special that you liked about the date or something funny that she said."

Little Things Matter

Don't let the movies or television teach you about dating. On both the big and small screens, most of what you see are larger-than-life moments. Real relationships are different.
"Dating's all about hanging out and talking," Smiler says.
The girl who you hope will be your girlfriend should be someone that you like to talk to, not just someone you like to look at. Most guys, Smiler says, already understand that.
"Boys choose as their dating partners someone they really like and are interested in getting to know better," says Smiler, author of Challenging Casanova: Beyond the Stereotype of the Promiscuous Young Male. "It's only a small percentage of guys that are dating simply for sex. Fooling around is not the driving factor for most boys."

She Likes You, She Likes You Not?

Few guys go through their teen years without their share of dating failures. The girl you like may simply not like you back.
How do you know in advance? You could get one of your friends to ask one of her friends, says Smiler. But the best way to get a straight answer is to take the direct approach. Ask her to an upcoming dance, for example.
"You usually get a clear yes or no," Smiler says. "A 'no' sucks, but you will recover from it. Rejection is part of this. It will hurt, then the hurt will go away."
Sometimes you're direct, but the girl's answer is vague. She says she's busy or has other plans. That might be true, or it might be what she thinks is a gentler way to tell you she's not interested.
"Be persistent, but stick to the 'three strikes, you’re out' rule," says Lyon. "If she keeps saying no, cross her off the list."
Remember, always respect her. If she says "no," let it go. She probably won't change her mind, and if you keep asking her out, it will annoy her.

Going Solo

Don't think you have to date just because all your friends are doing it. That's especially true if you don’t think you're ready or you simply don't want to, Smiler says.
Lyon agrees. "Don't freak out if you don't have a girlfriend in high school, and don't compare yourself to other guys who do. Be patient with yourself. It will come."
When you do date, here's a cheat sheet to help:

Don't horse around with her like she's a buddy. She's not. She's your date.
Look her in the eye. Don't stare at her breasts.
Smile and act like you're interested in what she's saying. (You are, right?)
Don't pick your nose or do anything else you'd be embarrassed for her to notice.
Don't drink and don't do other drugs, either. That can really mess up your judgment. Bad idea.
Be polite. For instance, it may seem old-fashioned, but hold the door for her as a courtesy.
Slow down, and always respect her feelings.

Me & My Barkada

barkada. isang samahan ng mga tao na nagsasayahan, naghahanap ng trip, umiinom, nagdodroga, nagbebenta ng laman at kung anu-ano pa. (hindi kami nagdodroga at nagbebenta nang laman huh!) haha! siryoso. ang barkada ay binubuo ng mga ibat ibang klase ng tao. may joker, may tahimik lang, may napaka daldal, may siga, may inaasar palagi, may utusan, may mayabang, may pogi, may panget, may mayaman, may buraot, may babaero, may bakla, may namamakla, may rakista, may pamilyado na, may sawi sa pag.ibig, at may maka Diyos.

kapag nagsamasama sa isang barkada ang ibat ibang klase nang tao, anu pa ba ang hahanapin mo? (anu nga ba? edi gulo! JOKE! MALAMANG MASAYANG TRIP! :)) sa loob ng barkada hindi maiiwasan ang tampuhan, pagiging dominante ng ibang miyembro ng barkada at mga alitan sa loob din ng samahan. sa isang barkada may tumatayo ding isang leader na syang nagpaplano sa kung anong gagawing trip ng barkada. yung tipong sya yung pasimuno ng kung anong kalokohan ang gagawin. haha.

may barkada din ako, madaming grupo. at may isa akong barkadang pinaka hindi ko makakalimutan. ang barkadang PERWISYO. oo PERWISYO talaga ang barkada namin, perwisyo ang tinawag namin sa barkada namin dahil kapag nagsasama sama kami dati panigurado may gulo o may maganda/panget na balitang kakalat sa lugar namin. ahaha. hindi ko ikinakahiya itong barkadang ito kahit nagawa namin yung mga bagay na nakakaperwisyo talaga sa ibang tao (hindi ko na sasabihin kung anu ahh. secret ko na yun! XD). masaya ako kapag kasama ko ang barkada ko. sila ang takas ko sa mga problema ko, problema sa bahay, sa eskwela, at sa problema sa pamilya. kapag kasama ko sila, nakasuot ako nang masayang maskara.

kung anu anong trip na ang nagawa ko kasama ang barkadang ito, may tipong pati dumi nang tao pinagtripan namin. haha. mayroon ding simpleng trip lang. road trip, bar, inom sa kanto at magpaka lasing. may mga nahiwalay din sa barkada dahil sumama sa ibang grupo. at mayroon din namang nadagdag at nagstay sa grupo. madami din kaming trip na kelangan nang pondo at hulugan galing sa mga miyembro. swimming at xmas party. at ang pinaka masaya ay ang mga birthday party! (kase libre lahat at malamang may roadtrip at bar pa!) nakakamiss ang ganitong samahan. masasayang tao ang mga kasama mo kahit saan kayo magpunta. nakakawala nang problema.

ang barkadang perwisyo, ang barkadang kinalakihan ko. mga taong kilala lang ang isang parte nang ako.

pasensya na kung hindi na ako nakakasama sa inyo mga PERWISYO. madami lang akong inaasikaso, inaayos at pinoproblema. babawi ako sa inyo kapag nagkitakita ulit tayo. sana hindi kayo magtampo sa akin; at sa araw na makasama ko ulit kayo eeh sana hindi ako maiwanan sa kanto at makakonek pa din ako sa inyo.
