Could that end up being the “Nightmare Ticket” that derails Barack Obama in the US presidential elections in 2012?

Just how long do you imagine it will be before the incredible shrinking gaffe-machine that is RNC chairman Michael Steele, having previously courted what passes for “controversy” in certain circles with his candid remarks about abortion, Rush Limbaugh, Mormonism and his generally quixotic tenure as chief of the GOP, will be forced into yet another foot-shuffling, shape-shifting, head-scratching and humiliating recant (complete with “clarifications”, “corrections” and slave-like contrition about his having “mis-spoke”) following his latest declaration that he regards the messianic revolutionary (and supposedly "anti-American") Malcolm X ~ whose 85th birthday we celebrate today ~ as his “favorite leader”? Or will Mr Steele display some of the backbone that was Malcolm's hallmark and stand up to the political Eyjafjallajökull that will shortly erupt about his ears?

Call me what you will but there's something curiously uplifting and poetic about the (practically) all-male and (functionally) all-white character of the new Cameron-Clegg administration at No.10. For it bespeaks a post-PC era of white self-assurance and assertion that betrays no hint of anti-Otherness to it. Since an African-American now resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and our world would appear to have surmounted the snow-capped summit of the Kingian “mountaintop” the time may well have come for us to cut “white folks” some slack. As we have no further need for molly-coddling, coaxing or pandering-to it may be high-time Britain returned to its being “Britain” again with no apologies to those “forever-of-a-mind-to-be-injured”. For whatever the seismic 2008 election of President Barack Hussein Obama may have signified to the world as the moment when Black dasein attained the existential affirmation of its worth, the authentically bi-partisan Cameron-Clegg regime (America, are you listening?) would appear to have heralded the point when white self-doubt and circumspection overcame itself and the Rubicon-traversing nexus at which the “Nuremberg Yolk” of eternal ethnic guilt was finally cast aside, leaving the proverbial “white man” at an Augustine peace with himself and the wider (and largely “coloured”) world. For there is now an Epicurean nonchalance to the Cameron-Clegg administration (or “C²” as I will henceforth refer to it) that I, as a Black man, find oddly reassuring and relative to which I feel none the lesser, devalued, excluded nor denied.

And long may it prosper.

Conservative leader David Cameron is the new UK prime minister after the resignation of Gordon Brown. Mr Cameron, 43, is in Downing Street after traveling to Buckingham Palace to formally accept the Queen's request to form the next government. He said he aimed to form a "proper and full coalition" with the Lib Dems to provide "strong, stable government". His party won the most seats in the UK general election last week, but not an overall majority. In a speech at Downing Street, Mr Cameron said he and Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg would "put aside party differences and work hard for the common good and the national interest"...

It was the early 1940s and Lena Horne, the singer and rising Hollywood star, was making a morale-boosting appearance in front of the troops at Fort Riley in Kansas. As was the case in the days of segregation, she had to perform first in front of the white US soldiers, irrespective of the fact that she herself was black. She was only permitted to repeat her act on behalf of the African-American troops the following day, in a separate black mess hall. To her bemusement, she found them sitting behind several rows of white soldiers, and when she inquired she discovered that the front seats were occupied by German prisoners of war.

At first, she tried turning her back on the PoWs and directing her voice to the black soldiers. But when that failed, she stormed off in a rage...

Voters in the East London district of Barking have decisively rejected the British National Party, wiping out the far-right party's presence on the local council. The BNP's council defeat comes in the wake of leader Nick Griffin's distant third place in the national election-- a blow for the party in an area Mr Griffin had targeted for the BNP's Westminster breakthrough.

The BNP, which advocates an immediate end to the "immigration flood" into Britain, lost all 12 of its seats on Barking & Dagenham Borough Council, with the Labour Party winning all 51 seats for the first time in the borough's history. Council leader Liam Smith said the BNP "has no policy and plays on people's fears," while his own party ran a positive campaign, focusing on the council's record in the area. Many pundits predicted the BNP could gain control of the council, as an influx of immigrants in recent years has caused resentment among the London suburb's predominantly white, working-class population.

Immigration has become an increasingly contentious issue in the U.K. and was expected to play a part in Thursday's vote nationwide. By late last year, some 14% of the U.K.'s working-age population had been born abroad, up from about 8% when Labour took power in 1997. But, political analysts say, the far-right party has flopped in the polls in part because mainstream political parties have begun to acknowledge working-class worries about the effects of the rise in immigration.

Labour's tourism and culture minister, Margaret Hodge, held the Barking parliamentary seat with 24,628 votes, a majority of more than 16,000, saying the victory was the culmination of the "moral battle of my life." Mr Griffin polled 6,620 votes to finish third, behind the Conservative Party. Olashile Anineashaun, 34, a traffic warden originally from Nigeria, moved to Barking five years ago but left for a while because he felt the BNP's presence in the area led to increased harassment of ethnic minorities. He returned to the neighborhood two years ago.

"People harass you on the street and say they don't want you in this area," he said Thursday, before the election result was announced. "If the BNP win again I will leave." He said he was backing Labour. The BNP failed to win a single parliamentary seat but increased its share of the vote by 1.83%. Despite the weaker-than-expected showing, Mr Griffin remained defiant Thursday night. ''I would say this to the people of Britain: it is going to be too late for Barking, but it is not too late for Britain."

Mr Smith said the selection of Mr Griffin for the Barking seat had been a "big own goal," as his presence with a large security entourage scared voters. Mandy Johnson, 43, a student supervisor in a local secondary school, said Mr Griffin had visited her house while campaigning, but she refused to speak to him. "My son's just come back from [fighting in] Afghanistan and I put a ribbon on the front door," she said. "He realized straight away what it meant and tried to talk to me."

Ms Johnson, who voted for the Liberal Democrats in the local and national elections, said she agrees with some of the BNP's views on the effect of immigration on the availability of housing, but wouldn't speak to him because "they are a racist party and I'm not a racist person." The BNP wasn't the only minor party left disappointed by the general election. Nigel Farage, a leading figure in the United Kingdom Independence Party, failed in his attempt to oust the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, from his seat in Buckingham. And Respect, a left-wing coalition formed in opposition to the Iraq war, lost its only seat, Bethnal Green and Bow in East London, to the Labour Party.

The Green Party provided an exception to the rule. Its leader, Caroline Lucas, became the party's first ever MP, representing the southeast England constituency of Brighton Pavilion...

Stopping short of saying they expect to win either seat, the BNP said the response they had been getting on the doorsteps had been "very encouraging". A spokesman for the party said that in the past three weeks their call centre "had received record numbers of enquiries, new members and donations". He added that "the majority" of the BNP's 326 candidates in the general election were on course to save their deposits. He was totally disinterested in us. It made me really angry but I just tried to forget it and moved on. Then I saw him again in Westminster Abbey during the Remembrance Day service last November. I was one of two soldiers laying the wreath to the Unknown Soldier. Afterwards we all stood to attention during the two minute silence. I picked a point to stare at so I could remain completely still and it happened to be him. Throughout the silence, he kept on fidgeting and moving. He couldn't even stand still for two minutes. I've got head and back injuries that put me back in hospital in a lot of pain quite regularly, so if I could do it there's no reason he couldn't. It was very rude. I was absolutely furious with him. All that was going through my head was to knock him out. So on the official line-up that time, I decided I'd get his attention and let him know how I felt. When he offered his hand to me I just turned around and walked away. I wanted him to think about his actions..."

Griffin said the voluntary programme would be open to around 180,000 people a year who "could go back and help develop their own countries". He said the scheme would be funded from the foreign aid budget and money the government is "wasting at the moment on ridiculous climate change adaptation policies". "We're saying that we'd give resettlement grants ... this is voluntary ... we're looking probably at £50,000 per person," he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme...

As the third and final debate looms, Gordon Brown's fateful encounter with Rochdale resident Gillian Duffy ~ who is rapidly emerging as the “Joe the Plumber” of the British general election after the PM had haplessly disparaged her as a bigot for her views on immigration ~ could mark the moment when the British National Party really entered the race to No.10. With a hung parliament looking like the likeliest outcome of this election, the BNP may very well ride Mrs Duffy's “immigration” coat-tails and end up securing anything up to 20% (or more) of the final vote, thus placing BNP leader Nick Griffin in the position of KINGMAKER of this election and the man whom the three main political parties would have to court if they are to stand any chance of governing. Britain could thus be faced with the totally unforeseen prospect of a post-election coalition, not unlike the one which emerged in Germany in 1932-33, in which a Tory-BNP, Labour-BNP or Liberal Democrat-BNP regime would ultimately assume power in the United Kingdom.

Brown: Well we’re raising the threshold at which people start paying tax as pensioners, but yes if you’ve got an occupational pension you may have to pay some tax but you may be eligible for the pension credit as well, you should check –

Brown: Well you should check it again just to be sure, to be absolutely sure.

The problem was that I was trying to deal with a question that she raised about immigration and I wasn’t given a chance to answer it because we had a whole mêlée of press around but of course I apologise if I have said anything that has been offensive and I would never put myself in a position where I would ever want to say anything like that about a woman I met. It was a question about immigration that really I think was annoying.

JV: And you’re blaming a member of your staff there, Sue?

GB: No I’m blaming myself and I blame myself for what is done but you’ve got to remember that this was me being helpful to the broadcasters, with my microphone on, rushing into the car because I had to get to another appointment and they’ve chosen to play my private conversation with the person who was in the car with me. I know these things can happen, I apologise profusely to the lady concerned, I don’t think she is that I think, it was just the view that she expressed that I was worried about that I couldn’t respond to.

With the sickening announcement that Malcolm X assassin Talmadge Hayer/Thomas Hagan was finally granted parole and released from prison this morning, I wish to repeat the call: the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the Rev. Al Sharpton and, above all, Minister Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam should issue a joint statement calling on President Barack Obama to sign an executive order declassifying all federal files relating to this vicious (and as-yet-unsolved) crime, re-opening a full investigation aimed at identifying the real perpetrators and tasking Attorney General Eric Holder with bringing the full force of the Justice Department to bear against anyone and everyone who had any involvement whatsoever in the 21 February 1965 assassination of Malcolm X.

This can no longer be looked upon as an issue of the “Freedom of Speech”. Mr Beck ~ America's very own Eugene Terreblanche ~ is utilizing his TV show to methodically dehumanize and de-Americanize Mr Obama in the eyes of the American people as a prelude to the assassination of their president.

And just as millions around the world mobilized themselves in the 1980's to boycott, disinvest from and impose sanctions upon South Africa's apartheid regime, eventually bringing about its demise, the hour has arrived for mankind to launch a similar disinvestment drive against Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation ~ the owners of the Fox News Channel ~ with a view to bringing about its total collapse.

The Guardian newspaper reported on Thursday that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has requested a response from Iran in regard to evidence that the country has experimented with the creation of advanced implosion devices designed for use in nuclear weapons.

The report, which was compiled by using the data of numerous intelligence agencies over an extended period charges that Iranian scientists have been working on creating the components in a "two-point implosion" device. Such a device is used to bring about the chain reaction in a nuclear fission warhead. Furthermore, the device would be smaller than other nuclear implosion devices, which would in turn give Iran the ability to create much smaller warheads and therefore require a smaller missile system to deliver it to its target.

This is huge. Conventional wisdom was that Iran would first try to build a working bomb, then move on to more advanced designs to shrink and fit on to one of their ballistic missiles. Now we learn that Iran is skipping that step and moving directly to a compact, fully deliverable weapon. More concerning is what comes after solving two point implosion: the Teller-Ulam bomb, more commonly known as the hydrogen bomb. The Iranian regime has been very clever in its development of a nuclear weapons program. Using a horizontal model where they first lined up all the necessary "ingredients" for advanced nuclear weapons --heavy water plants, experimental reactors, plutonium refining plants and uranium enrichment facilities -- means that they can shoot directly for a thermonuclear device instead of toying around with a Fat Man or Little Boy like we did in the 1940s. North Korea's program was vertical, doing just enough to create some sort of functional device. It was a dud. Iran's will not be.

This is bad news. It means that as soon as Iran successfully tests a bomb (if they even test one, remember the first time we detonated a uranium gun-barrel type bomb was over Hiroshima, so reliable was the design) they will immediately be able to mate the weapon to one of their Shahab missiles, capable of reaching Israel. If Iran develops a solid-fueled rocket as well, they'll have a potential thermonuclear launch-on-warning capability just like the five members of the Security Council.

After being turned down for parole 16 times, Malcolm X’s only confessed assassin is about to gain his freedom. Thomas Hagan has been held since moments after shots rang out in the Audubon Ballroom in 1965. He has been on work release for more than two decades, but he still spends two days a week locked up at the Lincoln Correctional Facility on West 110th Street in Manhattan. On March 3, however, on his 17th try, Mr. Hagan was granted parole, the State Division of Parole said. His final release date is tentatively scheduled for April 28....

As the one occasion since his assassination that persons will have the chance to palpably demonstrate their devotion to the man, supporters of Malcolm X the world over should stage a series of massive rallies in every capital on Earth on April 28th to register their outrage over the decision to grant parole and free from prison the one man, repentant for his sins or not, who has the blood of our martyr on his murderous hands. And if persons could rally across the planet to seek clemency for a gang-banging butcher like Stanley “Tookie” Williams as they did in 2005, nothing will be more demonstrative of the moral bankruptcy of the Black world if we fail to muster the same energy to protest against the release of the assassin Thomas Hagan.

I, Thomas Hagan, being duly sworn, dispose and says:

1) I am one of the persons indicted for the murder of Malcolm X at the Audubon Ballroom, N. York. N.Y. Feb. 21 1965.
2) That I have been sentenced to life in prison for my part in the crime.
3) That I am now incarcerated at Eastern Correctional Facility.
4) That I am writing this affidavit in the hope that it will clear my co defendants of the charges against them in this case. My co defendants are Thomas 15X Johnson and Norman 3X Butler.

That sometime in 1964 Malcolm X was said to have gone against the Leader of the Nation of Islam, the Hon. Elijah Muhammad. By the following year Malcolm X was declared a hypocrite by the Nation of Islam. That in the summer of 1965 I was contacted by a Brother named Lee and another Bro. named Ben. These brothers asked me what I thought about the situation with Mal. X? I said I thought it was very bad for anyone to go against the teachings of the Hon. Elijah, then known as the Last Messenger of God. I was told that Muslims should more or less be willing to fight against hypocrites and I agreed w/ that. There was no money paid to me for my part in this. I thought I was fighting for truth & right. There was a few meetings held concerning this. Sometimes these were held in a car driving around. Bro. Lee, Bro. Ben, a Brother named Willie X, the other Brother's name was Willbour or a name like it. From these meetings it was decided that the only place that Mal X. was sure to be was the Audubon Ballroom on Feb. 21, 1965. Therefore the plan was to kill this person there. On Feb. 21st 1965 we met at Bens house Sunday morning. On Feb. 20th 1965 we had gone to the Ballroom to check it out.

One Sunday morning we, the above named, got in this Bro. Wilbour's car and drove to N.Y.C. We parked the car a few blocks away and two at a time drifted into the Ballroom early. Me and Bro. Lee took seats down front in the first row. Bro. Willie and Ben sat right behind us, and Bro. Willbour took a seat far in the back. It was his to throw the fire bomb & pretend that someone was picking his pocket. I used a .45 weapon. Bro. Lee had a lugar and Willie X had the shotgun. The plan was that when the shooting started people would be running all over the place & with this we could get out of the Ballroom. So when the shotgun went off Bro. Lee & me fired our guns at Mal X. & ran for the door. I was shot in the right leg but was able to keep moving on just one leg. I was able to get down stairs by sliding down railing to the floor. I was captured right outside Ballroom by a police officer.

This affidavit is factual to the best of my knowledge. Thomas 15 Johnson and Norman 3X Butler had nothing to do with this crime whatsoever.

That this affidavit is an addition to my first affidavit. And that the statements made herein are more in detail and hopefully will clear up any doubt as to what took place in the killing of Malcolm X and the innocents of Norman Butler and Thomas Johnson.

It was some time in the summer of 1964 that I was approached concerning the killing of Malcolm X. The time must have been a month or so before the Hon. Elijah Muhammad spoke in New York City in 1964. I was walking in down town Paterson when two brothers, both Muslims, was driving by in their car. I knew these men well. They asked me to get in the car. They wanted to talk to me. Both of these men knew that I had a great love, respect and admiration for the Hon. Elijah Muhammad. They started talking about what was going on with Malcolm X and how this man was defaming the Hon. Elijah Muhammad. This was the feelings of most men in the N.O.I. at that time.

I know that it was Ben who spoke to Leon first and then they spoke to me. I learned from them that word was out that Malcolm X should be killed. I can't say for I don't know who passed that word on. But I thought that Ben knew. We soon got together with two more men. Both lived in Newark, N.J. Ones name was William X. . . . I never knew his last name. The other man was a Bro. named Wilbur or Kinly. I don't know his full name. But we used his car on Feb. 21, 1965. We met a few times to discuss how to carry out this killing. Some times we talked while driving around. Or at Bens or Lees house. Some times we drove around for hours. We tried to get as much information on the movements of Mal. X as we could.

We, the people above stated, drove out to Mal X. house one night to see what security was there. We found it heavily guarded. We soon decided that the only place that Mal X would be was at the Ball Room where he was making speeches to the people there. In fact we attend one of these meetings to see what security was there. We learned that no one was searching at the door for weapons. This was in the winter of 1964-65. We talked about this on the way back to Jersey. We drove back in Ben's car. We knew that the only place that Mal X was sure to be was at that Ball Room. And we decided that with a crowd there we had a good chance of getting in there and out after the move was made, the shooting that is.

We decided to visit the Ball Room the night before the killing to set this up. It was a dance that night and we came there like everyone else, got a ticket went in and looked the place over. This was Feb. 20, 1965.

This night we used Bens car and on the way home we discussed what everyone thought. Everyone agreed that we would do this the next day Feb. 21, 1965. The next morning we would meet at Leons house and Bens to go over our plan. We decided after looking at the place that we would get there early. Drift in and take sets. Leon and me up front and left side facing stage. Ben and William right behind us. I had the 45 auto. Leon the Luger. William had the shotgun. Wilbur or Kinly had the seat in the back of the place. His job was to accuse someone of picking his pocket and throw the smoke bomb. This was timed to happen when Mal X started to greet the people. Almost at the same time William would fire the shotgun and Leon and I would fire our guns at Mal X. and run for the door.

On Feb. 21, 1965, we drove to N.Y.C. in Wilbur or Kinly's car, a blue Cat., about 1962 or so. We parked a few blocks from the Ball Room on a street heading for George Was. bridge. We figure that with all the people there we could make it out in the crowd. As for the weapons I got them from a man who had them for sale I bought them from him. This person had nothing to do with the crime. I made the smoke bomb that was used.

I, Thomas Hagan have written this affidavit in the hope that the information would exonerate Thomas Johnson and Norman Butler of the crime that they did not commit. This affidavit is factual to the best of my knowledge. And I am willing to state what took place in the matter before any court of law.
