---------------
Giant Tortoises Invade Mahalo Broadcast

Wednesday is Page Manager tutorial day at http://www.Mahalo.com. I was watching the broadcast and eating a banana. My two large Sulcata tortoises wandered in and had bananas with me, then stayed and watched the broadcast. I am NOT kidding! Proof is in the picture! There's Lon Harris in the background, on the screen. Amazing!!!

---------------
"Our Pot Is Too Small!" A baby corn snake dilemma...

I fed my juvenile corn snakes yesterday. I have 6. They are 1.5 years old. They cohabitate in a cool vivarium playground, and sleep in a pile, in a flower pot. After "dinner" yesterday evening, I looked over and noticed the flower pot sort of hopping around. With full tummies, they did not fit! I went to the garden shed and got a new, improved, larger terra cotta pot. I also kept the smaller one. Problem solved! I placed a stick-on ZooMed heating pad on both ends of the vivarium (underneath the glass, of course) so they have choices. As they get older, they'll split off into smaller groups or go solo. Now they have the space to do that. Sort of like when your kids REALLY need separate rooms! (This is the "too small for us" pot.)

---------------------------------
Water Monitor does NOT Like her Vest!

Almost all of our animals are "working animals." That is, they appear at birthday parties, after-school enrichment, library and classroom visits...getting the world better acquainted with these wonderful alternative animals. When I say "our animals," I am referring to the collective animals belonging to The Reptile Family.

Today was like any other, but Sophie our "diva" water monitor decided she didn't want to go out to a work at a party. She wanted to sit in her tub. It took two of us to sit on her (she's REALLY big, don't worry) and then slip on her harness. Ever seen a crocodile do a "death roll?" Every lizard has a version, and Sophie tried her best to pull off a champion death roll to avoid that harness and having to go to work. In the end, she was the star of the show, parading proudly (in the harness) and thoroughly enjoying the pieces of chicken they served at the party. She had her own plate. Being a good girl pays off!

How to Feed a Tegu...Quickly!

A Tegu Lizard is good sized, and quite excitable at dinner time. Even though I work with these creatures frequently and they are docile and friendly, when food is in the mix, it's a different story. I developed a new technique today. I needed to feed a Red Tegu, Miss Scarlett. As I slid open the door to her vivarium, she came at me, gaping mouth full of teeth wide open!!

I happen to know that Tegus love bananas. So, I stuffed one end of the banana in her mouth, and threw the other half into her habitat. Mission accomplished! She looked pretty silly with banana oozing out the sides of her mouth and a dreamy look in her eyes.

The Cat and the Tortoise

I was working in my home office. My old cat likes to hang out in his kitty bed at my feet. The other day, my Sulcata tortoise, Timmy, wandered in and stole the pet bed! Now you tell me - this photo looks like one ticked off cat, and one smug tortoise. Perhaps it's my imagination...
