E-Cigarettes: The Whole Package

An e-cigarette: a white DSE-901

The electronic cigarette, “e-cigarette”, or “e-cig”, is a personal nicotine vaporizer device. When a user inhales on the cartridge, or “filter”, the battery-powered e-cigarette vaporizes a special mixture of nicotine, which is then directly inhaled into the lungs. The result is a nicotine delivery system, much like other nicotine products, in that nicotine is delivered to the user without any tobacco material actually being burned.

Unlike most smoking alternatives, however, the e-cigarette also helps users that deal with hand/mouth fixation, and, more importantly, “smoke” fixation- or fascination/playing with the resulting smoke. Also, The “smoke” that is exhaled, is not really smoke at all, but rather, vapor, resulting from the atomizer heating up the nicotine-water-propylene glycol mixture. The propylene glycol is primary responsible for the “smoke” effect, and is used commonly as an FDA-approved food additive and for other products, such as theater stage smoke.

Inside an e-cigarette

Most “standard” e-cigarettes usually consist of three basic parts: a battery; an atomizing device, or atomizer; and a cartridge that contains the nicotine solution, otherwise known as ”e-liquid”.

(A.) the microprocessor chip:

The brains of the e-cig: with either the use of a microprocessor chip or an internal switch, which is usually housed near the front of the battery and under the LED cap, the main ”electronics” section of the e-cigarette is key. It is primarily responsible for using the power of the internal battery to active the heating element in the atomizer when the user wishes to do so (either a button is pushed, or air is simply pulled from the end (inhaling), depending on the model). In many models it also is attached to and powers the LED light in the front of the e-cigarette. Most users won’t come in contact with this often, but you should still be aware as to not let your e-cigarette get drenched.

Interestingly enough, and on a more personal note; when I bought my first e-cigarette, a black DSE 901, I was fully satisfied. Over about 6 months, and I am very hard on my e-cigs, I broke the cap from the front of one of my batteries off after dropping it very hard. I couldn’t find the cap, so I just taped the end very well, and then Sharpe marked the side of the tape black- to match the rest of the battery. The LED still shines through and I use that battery today. Yet another time, I lost my 901 behind my house in two feet of snow! I found it later that summer, picked it up out of the mud, and it literaly inhaled perfectly. Unbelieveable.

The battery provides power to the atomizer, allowing it to heat the e-liquid. One end of the battery usually screws into the atomizer, while at the other end, there is an indicator-LED that illuminates whenever a user inhales from the cartridge end.

Important!:
Different brands have completely different designs; cartridges, batteries, and atomizers are not standardized parts and will only work for the brand it is intended to be used for.

Here are the positives versus the negatives for an e-cigarette device in compared to smoking normal cigarettes.

PROS:	CONS:
Cost: Vaping with e-cigarettes is much cheaper than smoking- especially in the long run.	Simplicity: Instead of simply using matches or a lighter, one must constantly use a charged battery, atomizer, and cartridge.
Convenience: With an e-cigarette, you can vape just about anywhere legally, including public buildings, bars, restaurants, at work, or at school (Always check with your state/local laws and ask the business owner/manager politely).	Replace-ability: If you drop your cigarette in water or lose it, it’s not a big deal since you can simply grab another one. With an e-cigarette, you have to be more careful, so as not to lose it, forget it, or break it.

So, basically, I’m going to save you a whole lot of research and narrow it down to the skinny. The DSE 901, and the JOYE 510.

RD and RMDIR are used within the Windows command shell to remove files, directories, and directory trees.

Syntax:

/S	Removes the directoy specified and all of its subdirectories and files. Essentially, it removes an entire directory tree.

Example:

This will remove all the files and directores inside of test, without prompting for confirmation, and will delete the C:\test folder as well.

DIR is a standard utility that is used to navigate the Windows operating system. It is primarily used to list files, directories, and subdirectories, and also information about them such as modification date/time, size, and more. You can also list files with attributes, such as hidden and system files, and there are many switches that allow you to control to “look” of your results.

Important: Some of the options for DIR may be enabled by default even though you can’t see them. For instance, the /C and /N options are usually invoked when you type DIR, whether they are specified or not. The switches are found within your Windows DIRCMD environment variable. To override any invoked switches, simply use a hypen (” - “) before the option’s letter. Example: DIR /-N.

/W

This will show me what files and folders are in my current directory (C:\), to include hidden, system, archived, and read-only files/folders. My results will be in all lower-case- making them easier to read; and all the entries will be organized by file-extension, with their respective 8-dot-3 file-names listed as well (if available). Lastly, if my screen fills up with text, I am prompted to continue- for every screen; this way, I don’t miss any results.

The clear command is useful in many situations, most often simply when the terminal window just seems too cluttered. Its hard to see through the messy code that I don’t need any-more; how do I get rid of it? Just type clear.

ECHO is a program that controls the flow of output that is piped to the screen. It affects many things including the visibility of the prompt and also any commands that are fed through the command line. ECHO is most often used within batch files to control the format of screen output and to hide commands that are executed.

ECHO [ output ]

output	A message you want to output to the screen.

CIPHER is a built-in Windows utility (XP: Professional only) that can change or display the EFS encryption status of directories and files on an NTFS file-system.

Syntax:

directory	The directory path. (Example: C:\)
filename	A filename in the present directory, without the extension. (Example: Numbers)
pathname	Either a pattern, directory, or file. (Examples: 00000000 , C:\Test\File.txt , C:\Test\ )
efsfile	The path to your EFS certificate and key(s).
/A	Include all files and directories in your target scope. For the strongest security, the target file and it’s parent directory should both be encrypted. If the parent directory is not included, the encrypted file could become decrypted file if it is modified.
/D	Decrypts any specified encrypted directories; also marks each directory so future added files will not be encrypted.
/E	Encrypts any specified directories; also marks each directory so future added files will also be encrypted.
/F	Forces encryption process on all specified files and objects- even if they are already encrypted. By default, objects that are encrypted are usually skipped.
/H	Displays all system and hidden files. By default, these files are skipped.
/I	Ignored errors if they are encountered, and continues with the current operation. By default, the process stops when an error is found.
/K	This creates a new encryption key file for the currently logged-on user account. If this switch is used, all others will be ignored.
/N	This only works with the /U option. This ensures that current encryption keys are not updated during the operation. This a useful option when performing a search for all encrypted files.
/Q	Shows a quick report and only displays the most pertinent information.
/R:filename	Creates the an EFS recovery agent key and its corresponding certificate. Saves both the certificate and the key as a .PFX file, and then separately saves the certificate information again in a .CER file. The .CER file allows an administrator to add its contents to the current EFS recovery policy. The .PFX is subsequently imported for the recovery of individual files.
/S:directory	Ensures that all operations are limed to the specified directory and all of its subdirectories.
/U	Attempts to find any encrypted files on your local drives. If not used with the /N option, this may update the current user’s encryption key file or the agent recovery key if they have been changed.
/W	This option wipes the unallocated (unused) space from a chosen volume, mount point, or folder. This option overrides all other options and should be used alone. Warning: This switch will destroy deleted data, making the recovery of deleted files and folders almost impossible.
/X: [ efsfile ] [ filename ]	This will extract your EFS certificate(s) and key(s) into a specified filename for backup. A pre-existing efsfile may be provided, in which case the certificate that was used to encrypt the efsfile will be backed up.
/?	Displays the on-screen help text.

Examples:

CIPHER /E /S:C:\ncrypt /A /I /H C:\ncrypt\*
This command encrypts the entire contents of the folder “C:\ncrypt”, to include hidden files, system files, sub-folders, and the folder itself. It also ensures that all operations are executed on the specified directory and nowhere else. If any errors are encountered in the process, they are ignored; also, files added in the future will be encrypted as well.

CIPHER /K
This command will create a new encryption k ey file for the currently logged-on user account.

CIPHER /R:C:\efsRecoveryKey
This will create an EFS recovery agent key and its corresponding certificate. The certificates and key will be saved at C:\efsRecoveryKey.PFX and C:\efsRecoveryKey.CER.

CIPHER /U /N
This will attempt to find or touch all the encrypted files on my local drives. The /N option will ensure that my current encryption keys will not be updated during the process. Normally they would be.

CIPHER /W:C:\
This will wipe (overwrite) all the free space from local disk C:\. This will destroy any deleted information (unallocated), making it impossible to recover.

CIPHER /X C:\certBak
This command backs-up my current EFS certificate(s) and key(s) into the file C:\certBak.

pwd (BASH/Linux, version 3.2.48)

pwd is a command that shows the name of the present working directory you are operating in.

Syntax:

pwd [ -L ] or [ -P ]

-L	If the present working directory contains a symbolic link, it is shown. Otherwise, the -L option acts like the -P option (see below). Note: Though not explicitly invoked, -L is used by default (as long as no other arguments are given).
-P	If the present working directory contains a symbolic link, it is not shown; instead the absolute path is outputed. If both the -L and -P options are invoked, [ -LP ], the -P option takes precedence.

Examples:

pwd -P

The above command outputs the current absolute path, your present working directory, to the screen.
