The first is on Mark 10.35-45 and talks about James’ and John’s request to Jesus to be leaders in his new kingdom.

The second examines Hebrews 9:24-28, where Glenn presents us with some of the less comfortable aspects of Christian belief.

This morning, James preached on Mark 7:24-37. He started out by admitting this may not be the easiest gospel reading to preach on. In it Jesus does some weird stuff – he calls a woman a dog and spits in a man’s mouth. He goes on to explain the depths of the stories.

This morning, Ben reported back on taking “a bit of Johnsonville” to the diocesan Ministry conference; Nathan talked about his experience of the Cursillo retreat and Fiona talked about her experience of Alpha.

The theme for all three reflections centered around today’s gospel reading where Jesus tries to take some quiet time with his disciples (Mark 6:30-34 and 53-56).

Feasting with Jesus and the Faith Five

Today we had all-age worship. Diana Langdom (Standz Enabler) visited and led us through some activities. The first was an activity to get to know each other. Following this she talked about banquets and showed a short video based on the Parable of the Great Banquet (Luke 14:15-24). This led into a discussion of the Faith Five – which can be used by families at dinner or bed time:

SHARE the highs and the lows of the day
READ a favourite verse from your Bible or one you have memorised
TALK about how your verse relates to your highs and lows
PRAY for your highs and lows, for your family and for the world
BLESS one another.

Who makes a good Christian (28 June 2015)

We have two recordings from the service for you today. Ben interviewed one of our new parishioners – Gini Keane. She is a retired priest and now hospital chaplain. She shared her experience of being God’s helper in Wellington Hospital. I suggest you listen to her and then read today’s gospel:

Mark 5:21-43

Glenn preached the sermon today, in which he posed the question of who would make a good Christian. The answer may surprise you.
