On Wednesday, a website was launched by Apple software hackers  on which the latest untethered jailbreak might soon be released.

Aa dedicated team of hackers has been hard at work to develop an untethered Jailbreak for iOS 6, the latest operating system by Apple, which would enable users to customize their phones however they want and install third party applications.

Evasi0n.com, which the website is called, claimed that the jailbreak will work on all iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and iPad mini models on iOS 6.0 through 6.1.

Though still legal in the U.S. , Apple strongly discourages jailbreaking and is known to void warranties for Jailbroken devices. It also ramped up its security in iOS 6, making it that much harder to attack.

On visiting Apple’s upcoming new campus at Austin, Texas, one can see a second building being erected as work goes on with an expected deadline sometime in 2015.

Construction work is in full swing, and the most obvious change is the framework of a second building structure situated right next to the first.

Costing $56 million, The initial stage upon completion will produce 200,000 square feet of office space.

After completing phase one in 2015, Apple will move on to phase two, a gigantic project expected to create 800,000 square feet of new space. In totality, the Austin campus expansion is expected to be completed by 2021 end, having set Apple back by  $304 million in construction costs.

Rumors say that Apple’s new operations center will create  3,600 odd jobs, which will more than double the company’s existing workforce in Austin. Apple is expected to receive $30 million in tax breaks, for creating new jobs.

Keycard from Appuous is advertised as an app which keeps your Mac protected by locking your OS X user account automatically when you’re away from it. It does this by using your Bluetooth connection to check for your iOS device’s (iPhone or iPad) presence, thereby detecting when you’ve stepped away from your computer or come back to it. Unfortunately, this sounds good only in theory.

To be fair, the idea seems pretty cool as the app turns your iOS device into a virtual ‘keycard’ of sorts. The execution, however, is terrible. There are glaring issues you will come across.

For starters, you’ll need to install the Keycard app from the Mac App Store, which costs $7 for a limited period of time, and $9 from then on.

Secondly (and this is the deal-breaker), the bluetooth sensitivity is extremely unreliable. The app is supposed to lock my Mac when I walk out of the room. I found out, however, that the Mac would not lock until I was out of Bluetooth range, which for me was 45ft+. So unless I practically left the house with the key card, my Mac would remain unlocked. This kind of defeats the entire purpose of having a keycard. There is no way to decrease the range and sensitivity of the device’s bluetooth as well.

While Keycard’s concept is definitely unique and has solid potential, you should probably wait until developers iron out the kinks present in the initial release before buying it. Until then, I would strongly recommend that you give Keycard a miss.

Apple’s stock price drove down by over 5 per cent, almost immediately after announcing its financial results for the first quarter of its 2013 fiscal year on Wednesday.

Even though Apple posted a record  a quarterly profit of $13.1bn,quarterly revenue of $54.5bn, and earnings-per-share (EPS) of $13.81, investors were apparently not impressed.

Analysts had predicted that iPhone sales hover between 48 and 50 million, iPad sales would be between 22 and 23 million, and Mac sales would be a miniscule 5 million – which is to be expected, now that we are in the ‘Post PC era’

The exact iPhone sales were 47.8 million, iPad sales reached 22.9 million, and the number of Macs sold were 4.1 million

There might be a grain of truth to the budget iPhone rumors after all.

A new model for developing countries like China and Brasil is in the works and will inculcate styling cues from across the existing iPod and iPhone range, according to new reports

Though iPhone rumors are a dime a dozen, iLounge, a website, claims to have seen a prototype of the handset.

iLounge alleges that the budget iPhone  will have the same 4-inch Retina display of the iPhone 5 but won’t come encased in a streamlined anodized aluminium shell. Rather than stainless steel or aluminum, high quality plastic will be used. Design cues will be taken from the latest generation of iPod Touch devices and perhaps even the iPod classic.

As always, it is advisable to take these rumors with a pinch of salt.

Apple has just announced a new model of its iPad with 128GB storage, and needless to say, it costs an arm and a leg.

The new models start at $799 for the Wi-Fi only, or $929 for the version with 4G LTE connectivity. That’s about $100 more than the existing 64GB model, which is $100 more than the 32GB model, and (surprise surprise) $100 more than the 16GB iPad. What this means is that Apple can make a huge profit based on only one factor- Storage

I, for one, think that the the new iPad is priced at a lot more than it ought to be. One can buy a state of the art computer for much lesser than what Apple deems is a fitting price for just increased storage.

At a time when competition is fierce from android powered tablets, it remains to be seen whether this model strikes a note with consumers, or not.

Apple Finally released their much anticipated fiscal Q1 2013 financials on Wednesday, and it is quite a mixed bag. Apple reported $54.5 billion in revenue (up 17.7% from the year-ago quarter), $13.1 billion in profit (flat from the year-ago quarter), and earnings of $13.81 per share.

By now, everyone has at least heard the rumors that Apple may be experiencing low demand for its iPhone 5. Now here is an interesting perspective on things: This slump in sales could actually get Samsung products banned.

Apple secured a major victory in its patent battle with Samsung last August, when a U.S. jury found that Samsung infringed on a number of Apple design and utility patents. Samsung had to cough up a hefty $1.04 billion in damages. However, all hadn’t gone wrong for Samsung. Judge Lucy Koh denied an Apple request to ban all U.S. sales of the Samsung products found to have violated Apple’s patents, stating that Apple had not demonstrated a ‘sufficiently strong causal nexus’ between Samsung’s infringement and potential damages to Apple’s sales to justify a permanent injunction.”

Now patent litigator Manotti Jenkins of Valorem Law Group thinks Apple’s recent iPhone 5 sales slump could lead the way to a permanent injunction against Samsung products. Reports of Apple reducing its iPhone screen orders by nearly 50% have already made headlines.

Samsung, on the other hand, has in fact had an even more profitable quarter than Apple, who is currently the worlds most valuable company.

Proving this, however, can be quite difficult for Apple, as buyers decisions are based on hundreds of complex features that they like or don’t like in a particular Smartphone, and it is near impossible to highlight which features are driving consumer demand.

When it comes to Apple, one should take every rumor with a pinch of salt. This recent one suggests that the Cupertino based company has plans to come out with a larger iPhone in 2013, dubbed the “iPhone Math.”

This rumored phone would allegedly feature a 4.8-inch screen and an 8-megapixel camera. This comes from Brightwire.com, which translates stories from the China Times and Taiwan-based Commercial Times.

Though the bizzare name “iPhone Math” seems very unlikely, It’s quite possible that Apple may indeed release an iPhone with a larger screen, to compete with the android “phablets” that have become extremely popular in the past year.

Apple will hold its fourth-quarter earnings call on Wed., Jan. 23. Its performance since the launch of the iPhone 5 may well determine which direction Apple is heading.

For the uninitiated, Warren Charles is a college rock group hailing from Los Angeles, California. They have just released an album called ‘Head in the clouds’ in the form of an interactive app on iTunes. Which brings us to this review.

After YouTube, interactive apps are all set to be the next big thing in music. Warren Charles just happens to be one of the first to jump on this bandwagon. Music albums have more or less lost their charm these days. A really good album should have a central theme baked into every song, a fact that Warren Charles seems to understand. The music and visuals are seamlessly integrated in this album. Not only can you play the entire album from beginning to end, but you can also play games with elements related to some of the songs, including a Temple Run style game.

You can watch live concert footage, read the lyric sheet for every song on the album with stunning artwork, read more about the brothers who make up the band, and a whole lot more.

I won’t pass judgement on the band itself, as that depends on your individual taste in music. Warren Charles has released a free version of the app, so you can decide for yourself if you like the music before you pay for the interactive album. The best part is that at $1.99, the album is a steal, should you choose to go for it.

Kudos to Warren Charles for really making a cool app. Hopefully, more artists will adopt interactive albums in the future. It’s a fun ride all the way!

Reviewing Social Networking apps is always fun. More often than not, though, I end up with the ‘been there, done that’ feeling. After all, with established players like Twitter and Facebook already offering great features, you can’t help wondering if there are any bases left at all to be covered. It was with this slight apprehension, that I began reviewing Haloo – Live Chat, Dating, Meet New People , a new Social Networking application for iOS from ROIKMYERS PTE. LTD.

To my surprise, Haloo turned out to have a ton of cool functionality. One of the first things you notice in the app is a visually rich interface, which quite befits an app meant for social networking. When it comes to core functionality, Haloo leaves nothing to the imagination. It contains a locator feature, which shows you a list of potential friends both within walking distance and all the way on the other side of the world. You can view their profiles and start chatting right away.

Chatting is where haloo truly shows its mettle. From random chatting to virtual chat rooms, Haloo excels in them all. You can exchange your photos or movies by simply dragging them in the window or share your location if you choose to .

Haloo offers you a bunch of paid features, if you feel like shelling out for them. Features like making your profile dominate on the locator to increase your exposure, or completely or partially hiding your profile have to be paid for. You can, however choose to just stick to the free features, which are many.

I mentioned earlier that there is little that Facebook, Twitter and other apps haven’t already covered. Any good magician will tell you, however, that the trick lies in the execution. The success of any Social Networking platform lies in the number of users willing to adopt it. With a lovely layout, great design and nifty features, Haloo is definitely worth checking out. My only qualm is the steep price for subscription. At – 1 month [$15.99]- 3 months [$34.99]- 6 months [$49.99], upgrading is anything but cheap. I believe the developers will see a lot more upgrades if the price is reduced. Until then, the free version is an excellent package by itself. Go for it!

All’s not well for Apple, it seems. According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple has cut its orders last month for iPhone5 screens for the first quarter of the 2013 calendar year by roughly half its original target,  a possible sign that demand for the Smartphone is not quite as strong as Apple expected. It has also reportedly trimmed orders for other screen sizes as well.

Silencing rampant rumors about an alleged iPhone ‘mini’ in the works,
Phil Schiller, Apple’s SVP of Global Marketing, said in an interview to a Chinese newspaper that “cheap smart phones will not be developed in order to grab market share away”.

Several analysts and even the Wall Street Journal had speculated in the past few days that Apple may come out with a less-expensive iPhone, following in the footsteps of the iPad mini.

It had earlier seemed that Apple may not want to give up a large segment of users and cede market share to lower end Android and Windows based phones, but Apple clearly don’t want to change their current strategy, which is clearly profitable. Schiller pointed out that though Apple commanded just 20 percent of the Smartphone market, it had 75 percent of the profit.

Well, we can’t argue with that logic now, can we?

If a recent report from The Wall Street Journal is to be believed, Apple may be planning to release a less-expensive iPhone.

The report states that Apple is working on a “lower-end iPhone” that could launch as soon as later this year. It is speculated that the phone would sport a look similar to that of the standard iPhone, but will have a less-expensive body.

Judging by what Apple did with the iPad mini, Apple might build a smaller iPhone with specs of the last generations flagship model.

A cheaper iPhone seems to be the need of the hour as Apple is facing intense competition from all all fronts from handset manufacturers running Google’s Android OS. If these rumors are true, then Apple could certainly widen its user base and give mid-range android Smartphones a run for their money.

Apple has declined to comment on these speculations as of now.

Samsung recently released their fourth quarter earnings estimate recently, and to say that the South-Korean giant is doing well would be a massive understatement.

Samsung has reported a record high profit, saying that it will make $8.3 billion in profits on $52.7 billion in revenue. This figure even trumps Apple’s own record high profit of $8.2 billion on just $32 billion.

Although the difference between the revenues of the two arch rivals might be miniscule as of now,  one thing is crystal clear. As things stand, Samsung is making more money than Apple, at least if its estimates are correct.

Samsung has driven home its message, without mincing words. It’s time for Apple to take serious notice.
