Mount image file just like a Windows 8

If you like the build-in mount ISO image by Windows 8, you can fell the same thing in Windows 7, Vista or Windows XP.
You can download the program called WinCDemu http://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/
Download and install the program, just around 1MB of size. So tiny!
For more natural windows 8 feel, you have to open the program settings. Click on Start > All Programs > WinCDEmu > WinCDEmu Settings.exe
Once the setting appear, you have to change the Drive Letter Policy to "Let Windows manage drive letters automatically"
If you don't have idea which one you have to change, just look at the picture below.

The Setting should be like this.

Now you can mount you image by double clicking your image file just like a Windows 8. Your drive should be on My Computer now. If you want to unmount your image, simply right click on your mounted drive on My Computer and select "Eject". This is the easy thing you can make yourself.

This program supported ISO, CUE, NRG, MDS/MDF, CCD and IMG image file.

Stop using Adf.ly

Can all blogger owner stop using adf[dot]ly or something redirection page with ads?
I know they can earn money using it but not too much and not so secure (if they uploaded himself and not using noob title of they file) I bet better using safelinking[dot]net or linksafe[dot]me for better security of they file and not too easy to decrypt the original link. With this they file will not easly deleted by Mediafire for example. Hope this post will take note for bloggers out there.

Fix hidden file

Welcome back!

After a long time we didn't post a new article, today I want to share a solution for your file are hidden by virus or something else. Usually you will face this on your flash drive are plugged into a computer that might be have some virus, this virus called worm.

I don't want to write much more, firstly you have to open your folder that contain your hidden file (I know you can't see your file right now or maybe just have useless shortcut on there). On explorer window, click Tools --> Folder Option (on windows 7 you must hit alt key first), on Folder Option window click the View tab. On Hidden File and Folders option, choose Show hidden files, folders and drives. Once you have finished, find Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) and just uncheck it. Click Apply and followed by OK.

Step flow

Now you can view your files.

On this stage, download THIS tiny program, install as usual (On windows xp you have to download windows installer 3.1 HERE).

Now on file or folder that you want to unhide, simply right-click and choose Change Attributes... and follow this picture.

The final stage

When you clicked on ok, you can go to Folder Option menu again and click Restore Defaults on View tab. Click Apply and followed by OK.

Now your folder or files is normal again.

[SOLVED] Fix USB Flash drive write protect

Some USB flash drive will get this error. I don't want to mention brand here,

I found some article to fix this error, but not work even one. In the mean time I found this utility to format your write-protect USB flash drive on my USB flash drive websites after I bought it to replace my current USB drive that's get this error.
On the time I just try and I wonder this utility might be a solution on this problems. Oh yeah, it's work, (little shocked) so today I want to share this small utility but can solve your big problem.

I want to make this simple:

- Download this tool here (Mediafire).
- Extract using winrar or winzip (if you don't have, just google for it).
- Open the formatter, You will see something like this.

just click Format. In this case you can backup your files before continue.

- Wait until done.

It might take a few minute.

Formatting complete.

- To make sure you get your original disk space, do a regular format.

Right-click to your USB drive icon and click Format...

- Make sure to click on Restore device defaults.

Click on Start

- On this warning jus click OK.

- Now format is complete.

Click OK.

Now, your Flash drive is just like a brand new :D

IE still relevant!

It took a long time rest since my last post. So I checked stats of this blog. Here the screenshot. (click the image to view in full size)

I was wondering Chrome users become rise. However, IE users still exist.
This situation make me complicated to think what to do to this IE users even IE users got notice that they will be not able to see this blog perfectly if they continue to using IE. Just because this blog using "Home made template".

So I decide to make some tweak to this template and do some change on my coding. and I also try to make this blog more cross-browser in other mean browser friendly in case IE now supported HTML5 and some CSS3 code (IE 9 and 8).

And the result, this blog now fully supported for IE users. Now IE is welcome :D (but I'm not remove IE notice for some reason)

Microsoft has released its Windows 8 Developer Preview operating system, for PCs and tablets, to the public as a free download.

This is the same software which Microsoft gave to developers on prototype Samsung tablets this week at the company's Build conference in Anaheim.

And while this pre-beta version of Windows 8 is not close to ready for consumer consumption, and meant to be used by developers who are looking to make apps for the desktop and tablet OS, anyone can download the software -- no developer registration or anything like that needed.

The move to release Windows 8 so early on can be seen as a testament to just how much Microsoft wants, and needs, developers to get into building apps for the new OS before it is actually released as a retail product that will compete on tablets against Apple's iPad (running iOS) and Google's Android software.

Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's chief executive, made a surprise appearance at Build on Wednesday and touted 500,000 downloads of Windows 8 overnight as a testament to developer interest in the new platform, according the tech blog This Is My Next.

Microsoft has made available three different versions of Windows 8 for download (two versions built for 64-bit systems which use new processors and can make use of more RAM, versus older 32-bit PCs that use earlier chips and less memory), which all show up as an ISO file when downloaded.

The three versions also vary in size and as an ISO file will need to be downloaded and burned to a DVD or installed on a bootable USB drive before being installed (Microsoft, of course recommends using Windows Disc Image Burner on Windows 7 to get the ISO file onto a DVD).

The three versions, all in English, are:

Windows Developer Preview with developer tools, 64-bit: A 4.8-gigabyte download, this version includes Windows 8 Developer Preview operating system with a Windows software developer kit for Metro style apps made up of Microsoft Visual Studio 11 Express and Microsoft Expression Blend 5, as well as 28 preview apps.
Windows Developer Preview, 64-bit: A 3.6-gigbyte download, this version is made up of just the Windows 8 Developer Preview OS and the 28 preview apps -- no added developer tools
Windows Developer Preview English, 32-bit: The smallest of the bunch, this 2.8-gigabyte download includes the Windows 8 Developer Preview OS and the 28 preview apps.

Since this is a preview version of Windows 8, it still has plenty of bugs that need to be fixed. This isn't yet even a beta release and not polished enough for the mass market. So if you're interested in downloading this early release, it might be a good idea to install it on a spare PC rather than your main computer. If you only have one computer, do consider the risk here.

Microsoft has said that all Windows 7 apps should work in Windows 8 on desktops and laptops, but there are no guarantees that will hold true at this point given the OS is in development.

MUST READ: Fix / Remove facebook virus

Welcome back our reader. Today i see lot of virus attack from facebook. And recently my friends also be a victim. I try to remove the virus completely using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware but it can't remove it completely. The virus has been removed completely, but something wrong when i want to open Facebook. So i try to find where the 'key' to fix that. After playing around on my windows folder i found the trick, and today i will share to you the trick.

Example

Before begin this action, you must have this powerful tool
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Mirror

Just download and install. If you don't know how to install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, read this tutorial (include removal instruction or see note below).

"You should now click on the Remove Selected button to remove all the listed malware. MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing the files, MBAM may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message stating that it needs to reboot, please allow it to do so. Once your computer has rebooted, and you are logged in, please continue with the rest of the steps.
When MBAM has finished removing the malware, it will open the scan log and display it in Notepad. Review the log as desired, and then close the Notepad window.
You can now exit the MBAM program."

Now all the virus should be remove completely, i bet u still can't open your facebook even Facebook page. All you need just this final step:

Download this file first. (Don' worry, this file totally virus-free)
Now, copy the downloaded file into: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc (Make sure you log into admin user).

You may face this:

Click on Copy and Replace,

and this

Click Continue,

You may be prompted for password if not log into admin user

Your computer should be fine and Facebook can open now. If not, try restart your computer and see if this trick worked. If you want ask any question, simply leave a comment on bottom this page. I also need to know if this method work or not and you can also leave your suggestions to share.

Conclusion:

No one antivirus/internet security 100% protect you, as user you must be careful when playing around on internet, the way you use your computer/surfing internet is very important to make sure you are protected. And please remember, antivirus just a program, antivirus just help you 80% to be protected.

Google+ Review

When Google announced Google+ just a few days ago, I was immediately skeptical about its success. Google has a history of failing in the social network arena. First there was Google Wave, then Google Buzz — and both flopped. Plus, Facebook’s immense user base means it is a huge challenge for Google+ to pose even a minor threat to the site. Luckily, I managed to get my hands on an invitation to join the service and make a proper judgment. I have been using it for about a day and I am ready to offer up some first impressions.

Design

I am a design enthusiast myself, and therefore am a bit more critical with user interface and such in websites and applications. The first thing that came to mind when I launched Google+ was this could not possibly be designed by Google. It is actually very nicely designed. Everything is very accessible, yet the site remains clean and simple. Navigation for the stream, which includes the ability to filter activity by circles, and your added interests in Sparks are on the left. All the content is obviously front and center. Then to the right is a list of people in your circles, and the ability to start a Hangout. At the top, you can switch between the Home, Photos, Profile, and Circles views, as well as search for people.

Google+ really shines when it comes to all the little things added to make the experience just slightly more pleasant. For instance, the Notifications view is fantastic. Upon clicking a specific notification at the top right of the screen, instead of being brought to a new page like on Facebook, the post loads within the small area. And if you are tired of receiving alerts for a post that is continuously updating, you can mute it so it is not a bother. Another small thing I noticed is when in other Google services, a sharing option is present now to post content straight to Google+.

Circles and the Stream

I like the concept of circles. I especially like dragging and dropping people into these different groups. It makes organizing friends seem much less tedious. But circles go far beyond organization. Every time you share something in the stream — the equivalent to the Facebook news feed — you can choose exactly who you want to share your content with. Choose certain people, certain circles, all circles, extended circles, or the entire public. Extended circles mean everyone in your circles, plus all the people in their circles. Those who enjoy customization options will have a field day with this.

The stream, on the other hand, is very bare bones. Sharing choices are plentiful with statuses, photos, videos, links, and locations. But not very much is showing up in my stream. Really all I am seeing is status updates, photos, and hangouts (more on those later). Sparks just offer a way to keep up with your interests without leaving Google+. There is no way to write on a user’s profile, though if you post something to the stream and share it with individual people rather than circles, they will receive a notification for it.

Plus, for whatever reason, the stream does not show stories the way one might expect. Google+ orders them by recently updated. So if someone leaves a comment on a post from two days ago, that post moves to the top of the stream. I am not a fan of that at all, and I hope Google changes it soon. It is also worth noting that if you add someone to your circles, you are not automatically added into that person’s circles. It follows the strategy of Twitter instead of Facebook.

Hangouts

I will just go ahead and come out with it. Hangouts is the killer feature of Google+. In a nutshell, it just a group video conference, yet it feels like so much more than that. You can start a hangout by inviting certain people or circles, or just by posting it to your stream and letting up to ten users join in. There is one main view that features the person currently speaking, and the rest display in smaller thumbnails underneath. Clicking one locks that person into main video. A text chat is available on the left side as well.

I can see this taking off even further with celebrities. They can join Google+, post a hangout to their stream, and the lucky ten fans first to join get to have a live video chat with their idol. Some well-known people — albeit not exactly celebrities — started this last night. Vic Gundotra, the man behind Google+, started a hangout, as did Ben Parr of Mashable. I happened to snag a position in the hangout that Justine Ezarik started, better known as iJustine from YouTube. Overall, it is insanely fun. If anything is going to aid Google+ in taking off, it is hangouts.

Mobile

Currently, Google+ has a native app in the Android Market while the iOS App Store is left hanging, though there is a web app. I spoke with former Skatter Tech writer Sharath Shroff to get some information on the mobile experience. The app seems snappy and stable, and includes all the main features of the desktop website except for sparks. Huddle is a group chat feature that mimics the functionality of BBM and iMessage and works well.

Instant Upload is a nice addition to the mobile app. Any photos or videos you take are automatically uploaded to Google+ in a private album, where you can then choose to share them. While photos have their own hub, there is oddly no gallery for videos. So if you upload a video and post it to the stream, chances are it will drift off into oblivion after a few days.

The Future

So, now that I have given my pros and cons of Google+, I have to say I am generally impressed. I joined with the assumption that it would just be another Wave, but I do not think that is the case this time. I think the real problem with Wave was that Google took way too long getting it out to the public, so people just lost interest. If they manage to time this correctly, Google+ has some serious potential. Right now, the vast majority of its users are technology pundits, UI designers, and plain enthusiasts.

As for Facebook, the website finally has some worthy competition. In no way is Google+ going to dominate in the social network wars any time soon, but in the future it could possibly give Facebook the fright it needs. Competition always drives innovation. So get ready, because this is only the beginning.

Facebook Dislike Button Spam Is Back - Beware

Just today, I saw a message from a friend that reads "Facebook just added the dislike button!

Click On 'Activate Dislike Button' below to enable it on your account!".

If you are not aware of this, you may click on that activate dislike link which looks very legit but is a spam.

“There is no official dislike button provided by Facebook and there isn't ever likely to be,” Sophos said.

The scam managed to breach Facebook’s newly strengthened security walls to dump the come-on link on users’ pages, tucked in beside “Link” and “Comment.”

Clicking on the link, said Sophos, will forward fake messages to your online friends and run unwanted JavaScript on your computer.

If you are a facebook user, make sure you don't allow any unknown application any access to your facebook account.

Its no secret that most web designers and developers loath Internet Explorer. From IE version 9 back to the still popular IE version 6. I recently had dinner with a bunch of other industry friends of mine and one thing we all could agree on was our feelings of Microsoft’s infamous browser. For those of you who may not understand or know why we feel the way we do about this browser, continue to read on.

Lack of support – CSS Rounded Edges
Slow page loading times
Spacing and Padding issues – Hours can be lost trying to align images
Security – ActiveX controllers
CSS Standards – Options that work in most other browsers EXCEPT Internet Explorer
PNG Support – Limited transparency and ugly shadows that normally wouldn’t show up but in IE

Sure there are a host of more complaints that may never get resolved due to the basis on how with each new version of IE is the same as the last. Just a few user interface (UI) updates to give the wrapping a fresh look. I think in part Microsoft wants to impose their own set of standards for website viewing, and we have very little choice but to code and recode one of the most widely and corporately used browsers in the game.

Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of web development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page.

This usually is a hot button for most, so I’d love to hear your thoughts on dealing with IE; good or bad.

****UPDATE**** I wanted to add that this is also a reason why the price for web design or web programming is what it is. Due to the many users of IE, our sites are most likely going to be viewed more by them than Chrome, Firefox, and the others. So we could have a site done but then have another 10+ hours of going back to make each page, each image, each element look “right” in Internet Explorer. Maybe in a sense this is a good thing for us designers because we pass this cost on to our clients. For clients we know how important this is to you and you should know that this isn’t something that can be done with the flip of a switch.

have you get some this error when windows update launch?

its really ugly right?
ok...firstly i have to say this error caused by your Antivirus program...
on other word, ESET product example: Nod32 or Smart Security
you may shocked right?
i'm Eset user too...and i already tested this method...its worked!
ok...here i show you...

1. Open your ESET product (mine ESET 5 beta)

You will see something like this

2. Now click on "SETUP", and select "Enter advanced setup..."

3. Expand Web and email -> Web access protection -> HTTP, HTTPS -> Active mode
on the right box, scroll down and check C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe
now click OK

4. Open your Windows Update, click Try Again or Install Update or Check Update

Here the result:

Windows able to install update

Successfully updated!

Now your problem is fixed,
you can freely restart your computer.

I'm not say that you should switch to other Antivirus...this problem can solved if you know how to fix it :)
I really love ESET SMART SECURITY because the program highly detected rate and very light!

Hello...today i will teach you CSS. This tutorial will continued depend on level.
Today is beginning for CSS tutorial.
I like to say you have to learn basic HTML first! (for whom Doesn't know HTML)
Take a basic HTML knowledge HERE

Ok! firstly u need to open "notepad"

1. type this on your notepad:

Windows XP’s Days are Numbered

Some Microsoft engineer was definitely having some fun with this one: Last week, Microsoft quietly a released a desktop gadget to remind customers and businesses of one important fact: Windows XP falls out of support in 2014, and would you please consider purchasing an updated OS?

Getting it is pretty simple: after validating your copy of Windows, you can download and install the gadget from Microsoft’s website. After installation, there will be a blue box on your desktop, quietly counting down the days until Windows XP stops being patched.

I understand that Microsoft is eager to get its users to stop using Windows XP (and they’re still moving away pretty quickly, with over 350 million licenses sold since the OS went on sale in October 2009), but this seems like a bit much even if the countdown does still have almost three years to go.

Still, I suppose for slow-moving businesses and other IT shops, it’s a useful reminder of the fact that XP support isn’t guaranteed forever, even though it seemed like it would be for most of the last decade. If you haven’t started thinking about your Windows 7 strategy yet, it’s definitely time to start! Test your programs. Test your methods for loading and securing your computers. It’s time to start moving.

And consumers! Continue buying Windows 7, and if you’re still on Windows XP, consider moving away. Don’t be swayed by those spammers you see in the comments sections of most Windows sites, linking to those Wikipedia pages full of “removed features” in Windows Vista and Windows 7 – XP is an outdated OS that is increasingly difficult to recommend to home and corporate users alike, and within a couple of years Internet Explorer 9 won’t be the only program you can’t use anymore.

Meet the new twitter homepage

Twitter launched a new home page today (20 April), for new users (and those who are not logged in). The new landing page places a great emphasis on “following your interests.”

Since co-founder Jack Dorsey’s return to day-to-day operations at the company, he has emphasized the need for Twitter to make people understand how the service can be useful to them. This homepage would seem to reflect this mentality.

Co-founder Evan Williams, who stepped away from day-to-day operations as Dorsey stepped back in, seems to agree:

The homepage was tested a couple weeks ago, but something went wrong and people had trouble with their accounts, so it was quickly pulled. The kinks are apparently ironed out now, as it is back.

Now, just how useful this will be remains to be seen. If you click on “follow your interests,” you are simply taken to Top Tweets – not the most efficient way to find accounts tailored to you personal interests (shameless plug: our own Twellow is actually great for this).

The homepage also places an emphasis on search, which can be useful for finding realtime info, but is not as great for account discovery. It does lead you the option to use the advanced search filters, but it doesn’t seem like all that enticing of a user experience for someone new to the service.

Then at the bottom a list of suggested users are presented in visual format (profile pictures). Users may find some accounts of interest here, but again, not that great in terms of offering users a personalized experience.

The call to action (“Follow your interests”) does provide a clear message to users though, as some still grapple with why it is they are supposed to use Twitter. This gives them an answer. Of course that’s not the only reason people do use Twitter.

Windows 7 - Change time format (24Hour to 12Hour)

By default Windows 7 does show the time in 24 hour format, so if you want to get the AM / PM symbols, press the Windows Key, type “intl.cpl” to open Regional and Language Options, go to Additional Settings -> Time where Long Time is set to HH:mm and change it to HH:mm tt, for example, where tt is the AM or PM symbol ( 21:12 PM ). To change it to the 12 hour format, you need to type it like this hh::mm tt ( 9:12 PM ).

Six Windows 7 Nightmares (and How to Fix Them)

Compared with its predecessors, Windows 7 is remarkably secure and dependable. It's far from perfect, though: An unbootable PC, a nasty piece of malware, or a single but important file gone missing can make you lose days or even months of work. And you can't solve every nightmare by waking up.

Here are ways out of six common Windows 7 disasters. I'll tell you how to fix a PC that won't boot, retrieve files from an inaccessible hard drive, stop frequent Blue Screens of Death, restore a forgotten administrator password, remove malware, and find a missing file.

Your PC Won't Boot

If turning on your PC doesn't bring you into Windows, try booting from a Windows 7 DVD or a recovery disc.

You may already have the DVD. If Windows 7 didn't come with your computer but you installed it yourself, you have the disc. If you don't have it, you can borrow someone else's disc.

Alternatively you can borrow someone else's Windows 7 computer and use it to create a System Repair Disc (you can also do this on your own PC before it has a problem). To create the disc, click Start, type system repair, select Create a System Repair Disc, and follow the prompts.

If your computer won't boot from the CD, go into its setup screen and change the boot order so that the optical or CD/DVD drive comes before the hard drive. I can't tell you exactly how to do this since it differs from one PC to another. When you first turn on the computer, look for an on-screen message telling you to press a particular key 'for setup'.

If your PC fails before you can enter setup or boot from a CD, you have a hardware problem. If you're not comfortable working inside a PC, take it to a professional.

But let's assume that the CD boots. When it does, follow the prompts. Likely the utility will tell you very soon that there's a problem, and it will ask if you want to fix the problem. You do.

If it doesn't ask you, or if the disc can't fix the issue, you'll see a menu with various options. Startup Repair and System Restore are both worth trying.

You Can't Access the Hard Drive

If Windows can't boot because the PC can't read the hard drive, none of the solutions above will work. But that's not the worst of it: Unless you have a very up-to-date backup, all of your files are locked away on a possibly dead hard drive. Secondary drives you don't boot off of, both internal and external, also can die with important data locked away on them.

If the drive is making noises that you've never heard before, shut off the PC immediately. In that case you have only one possible solution, and it's expensive: Send the drive to a data-retrieval service. Drivesavers and Kroll Ontrack are the best known, although they're not necessarily better than smaller, cheaper companies. Expect to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars. If your drive sounds OK, however, you may be able to recover the files for only $70 with GetData's Recover My Files.

If the sick drive is the one you use to boot Windows, you'll have to remove it from the PC and access it on another computer. You can do so by making it a secondary drive in a desktop PC, or by using a SATA-USB adapter such as the Bytecc USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Adapter Kit.

The free, demo version of Recover My Files will show you which files can be recovered and even display their contents. Once you've paid the $70 license fee, the program can copy the files to another drive. If that doesn't work, you'll need to use a retrieval service.

Blue Screens of Death Attack Your PC Regularly

Windows 7 keeps logs of "Stop Errors." To view the logs and make sense of them, download and run BlueScreenView, a free, portable program by NirSoft. The program shows you what drivers were running at the time of the crash, and highlights the likeliest suspects. If the same drivers come up from multiple crashes, you should definitely update them.

Speaking of updating drivers, you should make sure that all of them are current. SlimWare Utilities' free SlimDrivers makes this chore remarkably easy, as it scans Windows and lists which drivers need to be updated. If you register (that's free, too), it will find the drivers and run the update for you. It even offers to create a restore point before each update. Don't update all of your drivers at once, however; if you do, and one of them makes things worse, you'll have a tough time figuring out which one.

Frequent BSoDs can also be a sign of hardware problems, especially bad RAM. Although Windows 7 has its own memory-diagnostics program, I prefer the free Memtest86+, which you have to boot separately. You can download the program either as an .iso file--from which you can create a bootable CD--or as an .exe file that will install the program and its bootable operating system onto a flash drive.

No One Has the PC's Administrator Password

If the wrong person leaves your company in a huff, one or more PCs could be left stranded. With no one in the company knowing the password to an administrator-level account, you can't install software, change important settings, or possibly access encrypted data.

You Think Your PC Is Infected

If your regular antivirus program--the one you already have up and running -- hasn't stopped the questionable software, it probably can't. What you need is a second opinion--and possibly a third and a fourth.

Start with the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, a utility with an exceptional record of finding and removing malware. Download it, install it, launch it, update the database, and then perform a full scan.

Since installing and updating a cleaning utility are tasks that the infection may interfere with, it's a good idea to follow your Malwarebytes scan with other scans that don't require an installation or even an update.

On someone else's PC, download SuperAntiSpyware Portable and copy it to a flash drive. Boot the infected PC into Safe Mode, plug in the flash drive, and run the program. Since SuperAntiSpyware.com updates the portable program every day or two, you don't need to update it before the scan.

For a fourth opinion, try the F-Secure Rescue CD. This is another .iso file from which you can burn a bootable CD. Just boot from the CD and run the scan. The program will try to update its database over the Internet. If it can't, you can download an update on another PC, put it on a flash drive, and keep that plugged in while running F-Secure on the infected PC.

An Important File Disappears

Your PowerPoint presentation is beautiful. It's perfect. It's...where is it? Click the Start menu, type the file's name, and see what turns up.

Maybe you've renamed it accidentally. Click Start, type a word that's in the presentation but not in many other files, and see if that gets better results. If it pulls up a lot of results, click See more results so that you can sort the found files by date. No luck? Try the Recycle Bin. Maybe you deleted the file.

Dead end? Don't panic. You can always restore the file from the backup you made yesterday.

You don't back up? IAs for the file you need to find today, you'll have to use file-recovery software. Before I discuss specific programs, I need to lay down one absolute rule about using them: Until you've either recovered the file or given up, do not write to your hard drive.

Following this rule requires you to use portable file-recovery software. Download the utility on another PC and save it to a flash drive. Plug that drive into your PC, and launch the program from there.

The rule also means that you shouldn't restore your file to its original location. Save it to the flash drive, as well.

With luck, either of the following two utilities will be able to find and recover your missing file. First, try the free Recuva Portable. It's fast and simple, it can preview image formats, and it works reliably most of the time.

If that doesn't work, try Software Shelf's File-Rescue Plus. It costs $40, but you can recover up to five files with the free demo version. Strictly speaking, File-Rescue Plus isn't portable, but you have a work-around. Install it onto another computer, and then copy the program file, FileRescuePlus.exe, to your flash drive. After you pay the $40, use Notepad to create a file called key.ini containing nothing but the license key that Software Shelf sent you after you bought the program. Place key.ini on the flash drive, in the same folder as the program file.
