What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Where does it come from?
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.

Why do we use it?
It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

Where can I get some?
There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don't look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn't anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making this the first true generator on the Internet. It uses a dictionary of over 200 Latin words, combined with a handful of model sentence structures, to generate Lorem Ipsum which looks reasonable. The generated Lorem Ipsum is therefore always free from repetition, injected humour, or non-characteristic words etc.

A Blackberry Tablet Is Finally Coming...?

People amongst the business world can generally be separated into two categories. You are either a Blackberry person or an iPhone person. Once the iPad launched, it was only a matter of time before Blackberry would follow suit to keep their devoted supporters on the "BB” team. Blackberry will be launching the new "BlackPad" set to be called the playbook in November of 2010, and people are already speculating as to how it will compare to the IPad.

Blackberry Features

The BlackPad Playbook is said to be of the same dimensions as the iPad; 9.7 inch touchscreen with a high-resolution display. As well, the Black Pad will have two separate cameras, a feature that is not available on the iPad at all. The two camera feature can only be found in the most recent Apple device; the iPhone 4. In addition, it is rumored that the Blackberry has a 1 GHz Marvell Processor and there has been much inquiry as to the type of operating system Blackberry has chosen for their new revolutionary media tablet. People are leaning towards the idea that the Black Pad will be using the functional Android OS that was created by Google. Android allows users to create applications that will truly let the Black Pad user get the most out of their new device.

Business and Pleasure Combined....?

Whenever people compare the Blackberry mobile device to the iPhone, the argument stands strong that while an iPhone is great for entertainment, a Blackberry is more suitable for business. Assumingly, this will reign true for the Black Pad as well. Not only will it be able to provide entertainment for a user (movies, e-books, access to social media sites), the company of Blackberry is devoted to providing smart mobile devices for the business community. Therefore, the Black Pad will inevitably be a more practical choice for the business person who is looking for a more manageable way to get organized on the go.

I Hate Monday‘ kadang mulai muncul pada minggu malam atau di akhir weekend Anda dan akan semakin memuncak di Senin pagi harinya. Sindrom ini muncul karena perbedaan load pekerjaan yang kontras di hari sabtu-minggu dan hari senin. Pada hari sabtu-minggu, Anda dimanjakan oleh suasana santai dan waktu yang longgar, sedangkan di har senin Anda dikejar target pekerjaan yang berat. Berikut ini adalah Tips mudah mengatasi sindrom ‘I Hate Monday‘ agar Anda lebih ceria dan produktif di hari Senin:

1. Bangun Lebih Pagi. Menurut Darmawan, konsultan karir dari Iradat Konsultan, “Bangun lebih pagi memungkinkan Anda melakukan aktvitas yang memompa semangat, berolah raga ringan -seperti jogging 15 menit sebelum mandi- atau dandan secantik/secakep mungkin. Kalau Anda tampil good looking akan memunculkan percaya diri Anda untuk kembali berinterkasi dengan rekan kerja Anda”. Karena kalau Anda telat bangun, semuanya jadi serba terburu-buru dan bisa membuat Anda mudah lupa sesuatu. Akibatnya, mood Anda jadi buruk seharian.

2. Rencanakan Pekerjaan. Biasanya karena masih weekend-leg, Anda sampai tidak tahu apa yang harus dikerjakan duluan begitu tiba kantor pada hari senin pagi. Hal ini bisa dihindari dengan cara merencakan kerja (to-do-list-jobs) sebelum liburan akhir pekan. Catatlah kegiatan apa saja yang akan lakukan dalam agenda Anda. Jangan terlalu ambisisus, sebaiknya dahulukan pekerjaanyang mudah, sehingga Anda termotivasi untuk menyelesaika pekerjaan sesuai dengan rencana. Karena salah satu sebab yang membuat sindrom itu muncul adalah ’sambutan’ tugas berat di hari senin pagi. 3. Optimalkan Weekend Anda. Menikmati weekend yang menyenangkan akan membuat Anda lebih segar di hari senin. Maesi Anda cukup menikmati weekend pada sabtu-minggu, pastikan Anda cukup istirahat. Hindari terlalu lelah saat liburan weekend. Beri kesempatan tubuh untuk re-charge energi Anda. Selama weekend, usahakan agar Anda jangan memikirkan pekerjaan terlebih dulu. Sebaliknya, kalau saat weekend, masih Anda pergunakan untuk bekerja -dengan maksud untuk mengurangi load kerja di hari senin- maka Anda justru membuat weekend berharga Anda menjadi mubazir, dan seperti diduga di senin pagi, Anda akan menikmati sindrom ‘I Hate Monday‘ tersebut.

4. Tampil Beda. Sudah pada kodratnya manusia tercipta untuk menyukai barang-barang baru. Parfum dan sepatu kerja baru pasti bikin Anda lebih bersemangat kerja. Tidak perlu heboh, namun pikirkanlah hal-hal yang sederhana saja, misalnya memamerkan stocking atau cat kuku yang baru ke kantor. Sebenanrnya tidak perlu selalu dengan barang yang baru, Anda bisa juga memadupadankan baju agar penampilan Anda lebih keren. Pilihlah warna-warna cerah yang konon mamu membuat suasan hati ikut ceria.

5. Ciptakan Motivasi Diri. Buat motivasi diri Anda sendiri, misalnya setelah hari senin berakhir, Anda merencanakan hang-out bersama pacar, nomat (nonton hemat) atau clubbing bersama teman-teman kantor. Atau cari seseorang rekan kerja yang cantik -yang Anda merasa nyaman ngobrol dengannya- di kantor Anda sebagai penyemangat berangkat kerja ke kantor.

Hypertext Transfer Protocol (http) is a system for transmitting and receiving information across the Internet. Http serves as a request and response procedure that all agents on the Internet follow so that information can be rapidly, easily, and accurately disseminated between servers, which hold information, and clients, who are trying to access it. Http is commonly used to access html pages, but other resources can be utilized as well through http. In many cases, clients may be exchanging confidential information with a server, which needs to be secured in order to prevent unauthorized access. For this reason, https, or secure http, was developed by Netscape corporation to allow authorization and secured transactions.

In many ways, https is identical to http, because it follows the same basic protocols. The http or https client, such as a Web browser, establishes a connection to a server on a standard port. When a server receives a request, it returns a status and a message, which may contain the requested information or indicate an error if part of the process malfunctioned. Both systems use the same Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) scheme, so that resources can be universally identified. Use of https in a URI scheme rather than http indicates that an encrypted connection is desired.

There are some primary differences between http and https, however, beginning with the default port, which is 80 for http and 443 for https. Most certificates are verified by a third party so that clients are assured that the key is secure.

Https is used in many situations, such as log-in pages for banking, forms, corporate log ons, and other applications in which data needs to be secure. However, if not implemented properly, https is not infallible, and therefore it is extremely important for end users to be wary about accepting questionable certificates and cautious with their personal information while using the Internet.

“Google is not a conventional company. We do not intend to become one.” So began the “letter from the founders” penned by Sergey Brin and Larry Page in the company’s securities registration form in 2004. Despite ever-increasing commercial success since that date, Brin and Page have kept to their word.
Google is an unconventional company with a huge stake in our online lives. It is a source of fascination for many, including us, but what really happens in the Googleplex? And what cool factoids and stats exist from the company’s relatively short past?
Here we bring you 10 fun facts about Google to quench our own thirst for Google knowledge as well as hopefully offer you a distracting diversion from your daily life.

1. The First Google Doodle

Google’s famous homepage “Doodles” (the changing Google logo graphics) are well known and enjoyed by millions around the world as a way to mark an event or anniversary. But did you know that the very first Google Doodle was designed as a kind of “out of office” message?
In 1998 Brin and Page took the weekend off to go the Burning Man festival in Nevada. The Burning Man doodle (shown above), was designed by the Google guys and added to the homepage to let their users know they were out of office and couldn’t fix technical issues like a server crash.

2. Interesting Figures from the Google IPO

While the initial price for Google’s stock at its Initial Public Offering in August 2004 is an interesting stat in itself, there’s more to the story. The opening price for Google’s stock was $85 per share. At the time of writing, the stock price was $483 but has soared as high as $600 in the past year, making GOOG a rather nice investment for many.
A bonus factoid from Google’s IPO process is the value Google stated it hoped to raise on its S-1 form — as much as $2,718,281,828. It may just look like a string of numbers to non-mathletes, but 2,718,281,828 is actually the first ten digits of the mathematical constant ““e”,” showing that even as their company was planning to go public, the Google guys could still geek out with a bit of numerical humor.

3. The First Google Storage Was Made From LEGO

As proud hosts to Google back when it was still a research project, and known as “BackRub,” here Stanford now showcases the original Google storage from way back in 1996. It’s made up of a whopping 40 GB (less than a modern iPod) and it’s made from, as fans of the building bricks will be delighted to see, LEGO. It even hash funny mini-figures on the top.
Legend has it that the reason for the LEGO construction was that the Google guys needed an easily expandable, and cheap way to house 10 4 GB hard drives, and LEGO fit the bill. Whether the primary colors of the bricks used were the hues that went on to inspire the Google logo’s design is up for debate, but we’d guess it wasn’t just a coincidence.

4. Google’s First Ever Tweet

Google’s first ever Twitter post was as satisfyingly geeky as you could hope for. The message, sent in February 2009, reads “I’m 01100110 01100101 01100101 01101100 01101001 01101110 01100111 00100000 01101100 01110101 01100011 01101011 01111001 00001010.”
For anyone not fluent in binary, here’s a hint — it’s a well known phrase from the company’s homepage. Got it? Yep, it reads: “I’m feeling lucky.”

5. Google Rents Goats

This one isn’t actually one of Google’s infamous April Fools’ Day jokes: Google rents out goats. Yes you read that right. It rents goats from a company called California Grazing to help cut down the amount of weeds and brush at Google HQ.
The operation of 200 goats (plus herder and a border collie) is kind to the environment, and as Google puts it: “A lot cuter to watch than lawn mowers.”

6. Google’s Impact on Language

While you’d think the news that the Merriam-Webster and Oxford English Dictionary adding “google” as a verb to their lexicons in 2006 would thrill the search engine, Google was actually none too pleased with the development.
“We’d like to make clear that you should please only use ‘Google’ when you’re actually referring to Google Inc. and our services,” the company wrote in a blog post at the time.
The rationale behind the semantic displeasure was that Google had “a brand to protect,” and feared Google would “slip from trademarked status into common usage.” Now, four years later, we have to say Google was fighting a losing battle — just ‘google it.’
However, we’ve found some other Google-themed linguistic delights for you — a Google staffer is commonly referred to as a “Googler,” while a new team member joins as a “Noogler.” Nooglers also used to wear a colorful hat with a spinner on top. According to a former employee, those hats are now pretty scarce in some offices, instead: “Every Noogler gets a yellow smiley balloon and a nameplate.”

7. Google Is Dog-Friendly

Google is a super dog-friendly company. It proudly names “company dogs,” like Yoshka (described as a “free-range Leonberger”) pictured above. Yoshka accompanies Urs Holzle, senior VP operations and Google Fellow to the Googleplex. Less senior staff are also allowed to bring their dogs to the office.
According to Google’s “Dog Policy”, one indiscretion too many on the Google carpets, or aggressive behavior, means Lassie will have to stay at home in the future. Strong bladdered and friendly canines are more than welcome across the campus.
Unfortunately, cats are not quite as welcome. Here’s an excerpt taken directly from Google’s Code of Conduct: “Google’s affection for our canine friends is an integral facet of our corporate culture. We like cats, but we’re a dog company, so as a general rule we feel cats visiting our offices would be fairly stressed out.”

8. Google’s First Ever “Company Snack” Was Swedish Fish

Back in February, 1999, the chewy candy known as “Swedish Fish” became the first ever company snack (not counting beverages) that was ordered into the Google office.
Although a relatively small event, it has led to big things. Google is infamous in the industry for treating its employees to not just free drinks and snacks on tap, but full-on gourmet meals, three times a day at a plethora of on-site cafes and eateries, as well as regular BBQs during the summer.
Brin and Page have been quoted in the past as saying no Googler should have to go more than 100 feet for food, leading to snack-filled “microkitchens” that are liberally dotted around the Google offices.
In fact, the free food is said to be so tempting that Googlers risk the “Google 15,” similar to the “Freshman 15,” where they pile on weight soon after joining the company. Good thing they also have a Google gym.
Backing this up, here’s a stat from Google — “Bay Area Googlers consumed approximately 5,500 pounds of handmade chocolates from the snack bins in the microkitchens in 2007.” Wow.

9. The Google Logo Was Not Centered Until 2001

Google’s famously sparse homepage is considered a classic design in the online world. The Google logo, however, wasn’t actually centered on the page until March 31, 2001. As early users will remember, the homepage had a bias to the left-hand side, and even earlier — back in 1998 — Google sported a Yahoo-style exclamation mark.

10. Google Has a Company Dinosaur

By all accounts, there are many wondrous sights to be seen at the Googleplex, but one of the most arresting is surely the gigantic T-Rex skeleton — nicknamed “Stan” after a “real” dino found nearby — that looms menacingly at Googlers in Mountain View.
Joining Stan in the unique campus decorations is a scale replica of the SpaceShipOne, enormous Android -themed models, pink flamingos, a large LEGO man, Google-colored phone boxes and grown-up size ball pits. One thing seems for sure — just like the company itself — life at the Googleplex must be far from dull.

Buku Inside Steve’s Brain, yang baru-baru ini terbit dalam bahasa Indonesia, dengan bagus memetakan apa yang ada di benak orang yang pernah didepak dari perusahaan yang ia dirikan itu.
Inside Steve’s Brain (judul ini mengingatkan pada buku lain yang sangat bagus, Inside Drucker’s Brain) berusaha menyingkap bagaimana dedengkot Apple itu berpikir. Buku ini bukan bercerita perihal sikap kerasnya yang sudah melegenda (sebuah cerita, yang entah benar atau tidak, menyebutkan bahwa seorang karyawan Apple dipecat Steve di sebuah lift), melainkan pikiran-pikirannya yang mempengaruhi bukan hanya jalannya Apple sebagai perusahaan, tetapi juga komputer sebagai industri.

Jobs juga orang yang obsesif (ia sanggup bekerja bertahun-tahun untuk mewujudkan gagasannya) dan tidak terduga dengan sikapnya yang kasar, namun ia membina hubungan yang mendalam dengan para jenius seperti Steve Wozniak, Jonathan Ive, dan John Lasseter. Ia penganut Buddha dan antikebendaan, tapi ia membuat berbagai produk untuk banyak orang dan ia mempromosikannya dengan penguasaan total media iklan.

Salah satu hal yang sangat mempengaruhi kualitas produk Apple yang inovatif ialah watak Jobs yang tidak kenal kompromi dalam mengejar kesempurnaan. Ia cerewet pada hal yang detail. Produk-produk yang masih mentah, setengah jadi, dan hampir jadi berseliweran di antara desainer, pemrogram, ahli teknik, dan manajer, dan kemudian kembali lagi, berulang-ulang. Tanpa jeda. Ada begitu banyak rapat dan sesi brainstorming. Pekerjaan direvisi terus-menerus, dengan penekanan pada kesederhanaan (Ingat: ia membuat alat yang begitu mudah digunakan, sehingga orang bodoh pun dapat menguasainya).
Kendati ia disebut sebagai orang yang mau mendengar omongan orang lain di Apple, namun kesan bahwa Steve Jobs sangat didewakan sulit ditampik. Kahney memakai istilah “Jobs adalah focus group Apple yang terdiri atas satu orang.” Perusahaan lain tidak melakukan seperti itu, tetapi begitulah yang berjalan di Apple.
Karya Lahney ini memperlihatkan betapa pertarungan ide menjadi satu dasar bagi Jobs dalam mengambil keputusan. Jobs menginginkan rekan kerja yang dapat menantang ide-idenya. Baginya, argumentasi dan perdebatan mendorong pemikiran kreatif. Followership yang membebek justru akan melahirkan karya yang tidak matang. Sungguh sulit dan menantang, tapi inilah proses yang melahirkan banyak produk yang diobsesi orang.
Banyak pelajaran berharga yang dapat dipetik dari pengalaman Steve Jobs mengembangkan Apple (jatuh dan bangun), tetapi menyisakan satu pertanyaan, yang dalam hemat saya sangat krusial: “Apa yang akan terjadi pada Apple apabila Steve Jobs tiada?” Dulu, ketika Jobs didepak dari Apple, perusahaan ini terus merosot kinerjanya walau CEO Apple diganti beberapa kali, namun membaik ketika Jobs dipanggil pulang dari NeXT. Apakah situasinya akan lebih buruk suatu saat nanti jika inovator kreatif ini tiada, sebab ia menempati posisi “pusat” dalam jagat Apple?
Hingga sejauh ini, Steve Jobs adalah Apple dan Apple adalah Steve Jobs. Personifikasi inilah yang telah melahirkan banyak karya inovatif, tapi suatu saat mungkin personifikasi ini pula yang melahirkan persoalan yang tidak mudah diatasi Apple.

Mike Lazaridis (48 tahun) adalah seorang pengusaha sukses. Pada saat ini, oleh media cetak dan internet, ia dianggap sebagai salah satu orang paling penting dan berpengaruh bagi masyarakat dunia. Lazaridis adalah penduduk Waterloo, Kanada. Namun dia lahir di Istanbul, Turki. Lalu, kedua orangtuanya yang berasal dari Yunani membawa Lazaridis ke Kanada saat usianya lima tahun.
Tahun 1966 Lazaridis tinggal di Windsor, Ontario. Bakatnya mulai tampak sejak dia bersekolah di Windsor. Ia menghabiskan banyak waktunya di perpustakaan.
Umur 12 tahun, Lazaridis mendapat penghargaan Windsor Public Library karena telah melahap semua buku ilmu pengetahuan di perpustakaan itu. Di SMA, minatnya terhadap elektronik terfasilitasi karena bertemu dengan guru-guru hebat. Dalam setiap wawancara, dia selalu merujuk pada guru-guru SMA yang dianggapnya sebagai motivator paling baik. Guru-gurunya di sana jugalah, yang memimpikan bergabungnya fungsi perangkat elektronik (seperti telepon genggam), komputer, dan wireless.
Tahun 1979, Lazaridis memutuskan kuliah di Universitas Waterloo jurusan Electrical Engineering bidang ilmu komputer. Saat menjadi mahasiswa, dia mendapat kontrak 500.000 dollar dari General Motors (GM) untuk membangun display kontrol jaringan komputer. Dari dana kontrak dengan GM itu, ditambah pinjaman 15.000 dollar dari orangtuanya, Lazaridis yang masih mahasiswa mendirikan perusahaan bernama Research in Motion (RIM). Dia keluar dari universitas dua bulan sebelum lulus.

The history of the BlackBerry

For most of us, the BlackBerry is a relatively new revelation. While the devices have been around since 1999, they really didn’t start gaining traction until the early 21st century. And even then, BlackBerry’s popularity really started its surge recently. In November of 2004, Research In Motion announced that there were over two million BlackBerry subscribers worldwide. This was up from one million earlier in the year. So yes, that means that it took five years to get the first million, and then 10 months to get the second. The third came just six months after that, in May of 2005. Less than a year later, subscribers totaled 5 million. However, in the past two years, RIM has added another 9 million subscribers, and now boast 14 million subscribers. So in less than three-and-a-half years, 13 million people have gotten their hands on BlackBerrys.

Just a pager

The reason for the monumental growth is easily explainable. See, the first model was the one pictured, the 850. As you can see, it was little more than a mobile pager. It did integrate with existing enterprise email, though. Still, 1998 was still in the era of the AOL Internet, so most consumers didn’t really have a need for a mobile email device. Cell phones in general weren’t even big in the consumer market at that point, so the need for a wireless PDA was expectedly lacking. But it did provide corporate data access, an organizer, calendar, paging, and wireless Internet, so it was of great use to businesses who wanted a more mobile workforce. In 2005, PC World called the 850 the 14th greatest gadget of the past 50 years.
Funny bit: The 850 actually ran on two AA batteries. Kind of unfathomable in our wireless era, right?

An Academy Award?

I actually didn’t know this — and wouldn’t have been able to find it — had I not attended the Best New Smartphone Handsets & Devices seminar at CTIA’s Smartphone Summit. Susan Payne, RIM’s vice president of BlackBerry Connect, told us that Research In Motion had actually won a technical Oscar. She didn’t get into further details, nor did I think it an appropriate follow-up at the time. Thanks to the Internet, though, looking it up was a breeze. And yes, that claim is true. RIM did win a technical achievement award, though I’m not sure that the got one of the statues for it:

Lazaridis is currently the company’s co-CEO and president.

Progressing to the 857/957 series

RIM’s next line of BlackBerry devices looked a little more like the models we see today. The pager-style was ditched for a more PDA-style look. The display was increased more than twofold, going form 6 or 8 lines to 16 or 20. It also added the rechargeable lithium battery. The onboard memory doubled from 4 MB flash to 8MB flash, and from 512 KB SRAM (memory) to a full megabyte. And really, other than the ability to sync up to 10 personal and business emails, that was it for the upgrades. However, RIM definitely found the model that would work in the future.
Their next upgrade was to the 5810. This is when we started to see some further integration of the BlackBerry. There weren’t many
Strange sidenote: The device page for the 5810 notes a full-color screen. However, Wikipedia’s list of BlackBerry models notes that full color didn’t appear until the 7210. Since I don’t have, nor do I have access to a 6000-series BlackBerry, can someone fill me in here?

GSM in a CDMA country

Almost all through the 5000- and 6000-series BlackBerry models, RIM catered to the GSM market. However, with the rise of Sprint and Verizon in the U.S., demand increased for a CDMA version. So in the second quarter of 2003, RIM released the BlackBerry 6750 for Verizon Wireless. The device wasn’t a huge upgrade over the existing GSM 6000 models, though it did carry 10 MB of onboard memory. The device specifics weren’t the important part, though. At the time of the 6750′s release, Verizon Wireless was the nation’s No. 1 wireless communications provider, so breadth of availability was the height of the issue.
The CDMA releases continued in the 7200-series with the 7250, which was released through Sprint and Verizon. It was the first BlackBerry model to feature Bluetooth capabilities. At this point, Cingular had bought AT&T and was the No. 1 wireless communications provider in America. However, with both Sprint and Verizon using CDMA, the demand for these devices was still great.
At this point, devices were being made for both GSM and CDMA networks, though GSM still saw more models. In the 7200-series, the 7210, 7220, 7230, 7280, and 7290 were created for GSM, while only the 7250 was CDMA-compatible. The 7270 was actually WLAN device, and did not operate on a traditional cellular network. It was meant for data purposes and VoIP calls. The 7500-series was made for Motorola’s iDEN network, and featured the signature two-way radio — probably the only feature that has kept the iDEN network operational through today. The 7700-series was 2/3 GSM, with the 7730 and the 7780, with CDMA carriers getting the 7750.

SureType takes off

The full QWERTY keyboard was the signature of the BlackBerry. However, some people found the device a bit bulky — especially consumers who were used to traditional candybar and flip cellphone models. And so RIM released the 7100t through T-Mobile in late 2004. It’s calling card was the SureType keyboard, which assigned two letters to each key. This reduced the device’s size to pass the “shirt pocket test.” The intention: Blur the lines between work and life. The 7130e was a similar model later released for CDMA networks. There was also an iDEN model.
Of course, SureType ended up taking off in 2006 with the release of the BlackBerry Pearl. The big change here was the switch from the side scroll wheel to a trackball. The Pearl was small enough to begin this experiment, as anyone could operate the trackball while holding the device in one hand, much like people used the side scroll wheel with one hand.
The original Pearl was just for GSM networks, but in late 2007, the Pearl 8130 was released on CDMA networks. Shortly thereafter, we heard of T-Mobile’s plans for a second Pearl release, this time with WiFi and GPS. AT&T actually picked up the device first, though T-Mobile plans to release theirs this week.

8000-series BlackBerrys

Ah, but before we got caught up in the Pearl madness, there was another wave of full-sized BlackBerrys hitting the market: The 8700 series. At this point, we were seeing a ton of other smartphones hit the market, so there was more competition. RIM responded with a sleek-looking device, which was released in November of 2005, when subscribership was between 3 and 5 million. Surely, the 8700-series aided in RIM’s climb to 5 million, which was accomplished in March of 2006.
There were really three models of the 8700, though various lower-case letters added for each specific run (for a total of eight runs of the 8700 series). There was one for GSM networks with EDGE, one for GSM networks without EDGE (UMTS in the UK, Italy, Hong Kong, and Singapore, W-CDMA in Japan), and one for CDMA networks with EVDO.
So RIM hit the 5 million mark in March of ’06. Later that year, they prepped for another series. And by February 12, 2007, the 8800 was released. This hit the world’s major GSM carriers, and was the first full-sized BlackBerry to feature the now ubiquitous trackball. A few months later, Verizon picked up the 8830, which is basically the same model for CDMA. And just a few months after that, the 8820 was announced. Glancing at the specs, it seems almost exactly the same as the 8800, right down to running on GSM networks. However, it added WiFi, a feature we’ve seen appear in more RIM devices lately.

And finally, the Curve

Even though the 87- and 8800 series contained more consumer-friendly features, they were still a bit lacking in that department. Specifically, a camera was and had been missing from BlackBerrys from the get-go. It’s been said that RIM opted not to include cameras because a number of professions disallow them (say, in a courtroom), or some bosses don’t want them on their employees’ phones. Of course, these claims have been challenged, with people arguing that this was RIM intentionally holding back features.
RIM delivered the camera, introducing the Curve in early May 2007. The helped RIM bleed further into the consumer market. In September of that year, T-Mobile added the Curve (8320), complete with WiFi. And, as we know, RIM developed a CDMA Curve, which was recently picked up by Verizon, Sprint, Telus, and Bell.

9000 series and beyond

With the 8800-series being over a year old, it seems time for RIM to introduce a new flagship phone. We could be seeing their 9000-series as soon as August. We’ve seen patent applications for a slider device, a touchscreen, and an angular keyboard. All of these features likely won’t make it onto a single 9000-series model, but it does give one the sense that RIM has big things planned for its next line of devices.
So will RIM further blur the lines between consumer device and business tool? Or will they create separate entities that together keep them atop the smartphone/PDA world? I guess we’ll just have to wait for the next chapter in the history of the BlackBerry to be written.

With the launch of Apple iPhone, RIM has faced challenge like never before to keep up their sales of Blackberry phones like many other mobile phone manufacturers. Everyone will agree with me that iPhone is a revolutionary product that changed the way people used to think and act with their mobile phones. But Blackberry was always there to suit the needs of the corporate people. What makes these full featured phones so different? Let us discover 10 differences between these two blockbuster mobile phones.

1. Design

The iPhone design has made a revolution in Cellphone world. Keeping in mind that the recent Blackberries look smarter than before, they are just a good looker but not gorgeous like the iPhone. If the design were a fad then there wouldn’t be hundreds of iPhone Clone available in the market. The clones are selling only because it has the iPhone look.

2. E-Mail

The E-Mail service of Blackberry is simply the best. A Blackberry set up with Microsoft Exchange server has intelligent push email service which downloads the message immediately on the phone and an LED indicates that a new message has been received. The iPhone recognises new messages in 15 minutes and needs to be checked actively by the user.

3. Application

Any discussion of iPhone is incomplete without a mention of iPhone Apps. The developers of the applications for Blackberry use outdated tools that doesn’t give them enough access to the core APIs on Blackberry handsets. On the other hand iPhone is the easiest device to develop applications for. This is why there are thousands of developers developing millions of apps for the iPhone.

4. Surfing the Internet

The Blackberry browser is only a primitive one compared to the stunning safari browser of the iPhone. But the iPhone browser seems to load the pages more slowly than Blackberry over the EDGE network.

5. Keyboard

Every Blackberry except Storm boasts a full QWERTY keyboard. It is excellent for fast and accurate typing. It is true that the virtual keyboard in iPhone comes nowhere near the typing satisfaction by hardware keyboard and it takes time to master typing ability in a virtual keyboard. But there are a plenty of people who are fans of QWERTY keyboard only that takes up the whole bottom part of the front face of their cellphone and for them iPhone is really a bliss.

6. Camera

Most of the Blackberries have better camera than the iPhone. For example The Blackberry Storm has a 3.2 MP camera with image stabilization, auto-focus, white balance, variable zoom and flash. The 2.0 MP camera of iPhone is still not upto the mark to be fair. With storm you can also capture videos.

7. Battery

The iPhone battery runs out faster than Blackberry which makes it less reliable for corporate use. Although one reason for this may be due to the fact that iPhone is used for more tasks. But still I feel that iPhone has a poor battery.

8. Phone Call Quality

Blackberry has good RF reception ability. They get signal in many areas where many other phone don’t. The iPhone on the other hand has similar kind of reception quality too. So not much to distinguish between the two.

9. Multimedia

The iPhone is a great multimedia entertainer. It has good music and video players which is far ahead of any other device. The only place where Blackberry is superior than iPhone in multimedia section is the camera quality. But anyway, for multimedia, Apple iPhone -hands down.

10. Usability

At first, the iPhone may seem to be bit awkward with its full touchscreen design but you can use your intuition to get things done. On the other hand everyday Blackberry users can do the tasks faster with their shortcut keys. But Apple iPhone is just too ahead when its about learning from the scratch. Its very simple, easy to understand and still stylish.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, I have to say that the iPhone may be a very good, attractive and revolutionary phone but it still lacks the features that are vital ones for corporate people. But for ordinary people like many of us, the iPhone is the best. They both have their own sets of target and that is why, no matter what Apple iPhone and Blackberry battle will be on for some time to come.

Pernahkah Anda menggunakan Yahoo search? Atau pernah mencoba Bing.com, mesin pencari dari Microsoft? Namun hampir semua netter pasti mengenal Google, sebagai mesin pencari yang paling banyak digunakan. Bahkan sampai muncul kosa kata baru : googling aja....yang artinya gunakan mesin pencari. Mungkin bisa saja orang bicara : googling aja di Bing....

Adanya mesin pencari di internet memang memudahkan hidup kita. Bahkan ada seorang teman yang dengan jumawa beranggapan semua hal di dunia ini bisa diketahui lewat internet atau mbah Google.

Namun kemudahan ini bak pisau bermata dua. Di sisi lain, googling ini kadang membuat hidup kita berjarak satu dengan yang lain. Pernahkah Anda mengalami bertanya pada teman tentang sesuatu dan jawabnya...googling saja! Atau mungkin Anda sendiri yang sering mengatakan demikian...? Di sebuah milis yang aku ikuti, sering menemukan hal-hal demikian.

"Teman, tahukah soal apartemen bersubsidi yang bagus di Jakarta Utara?"
"Kawan, kalau kamu ketik di google, pasti keluar apartemen yang kamu cari."

Dan masih banyak lagi contoh, yang ujung jawabannya adalah googling saja...

Google (dan mesin pencari yang lain) telah menghilangkan hubungan yang hangat antar manusia. Kadang teman kita atau aku sendiri bertanya sesuatu pada orang lain, bukan sekedar mencari informasi, tetapi juga rekomendasi. Rekomendasi maupun opini dari teman-teman yang kita percayai, kadang jauh lebih meyakinkan daripada mencari di mesin googling.

Tahukah Anda, hasil pencarian di Google, Yahoo, Bing atau yang lain, biasanya adalah dari sebuah topik yang paling banyak diklik. Masing-masing mesin pencari mempunyai algoritma atau mekanisme penghitungan tersendiri, bagaimana sebuah topik diletakkan di halaman pertama, kedua dan seterusnya. Tetapi topik yang dapat kita percayai, belum tentu yang berada di ranking atas hasil pencarian di mesin pencari. Kadang kita lebih percaya atas rekomendasi atau pendapat seseorang yang kita kenal.

Sebenarnya ini bukan salah dari Google, Yahoo atau Bing. Mesin-mesin pencari itu adalah untuk memudahkan. Tetapi beberapa dari kita justru menggunakan mesin-mesin tersebut untuk memudahkan dalam arti menyepelekan sebuah hubungan pertemanan. Karena kita malas menjawab panjang lebar, maka jawaban yang paling praktis (=malas) adalah : "cari saja di google...." Padahal mungkin teman kita itu tahu juga cara mencari di google. Tapi yang dia butuhkan adalah sebuah interaksi, percakapan, rekomendasi, pendapat dari teman-teman yang dia percayai.

Bagaimana kalau kita ditanya dan memang tidak tahu jawabannya? Mungkin lebih hangat kalau menjawabnya : "wah tidak tahu...belum pernah tahu soal itu...dsbnya", daripada menjawab : ‘cari saja di google...' .

Karena orang sekampung pun tahu, cari info bisa ketik di mesin pencari...tapi (aku) mau bicara sama kamu, kawan!

Cara Mengatasi Kinerja Blackberry yang Lemot

Kadang kita merasa kesal dan jengkel saat lagi melakukan aktivitas menggunakan blackberry atau cuma iseng buka2 aplikasi, tiba2 loading yg begitu lama bahkan bisa restart sendiri dan menunggu hidup normal lagi hingga belasan menit. Hal itu terjadi karna biasanya memory aplikasi sudah mulai low bahkan menunjukkan nol kb.

Untuk mengatasi kinerja blackberry yg lemot,bisa dilakukan hal2 sbb :

Matikan Blackberry lewat power on/off dan cabut batre selama 30 menit,setelah itu pasang batre lg dan biarkan sampai hidup normal.
Minimalkan bahasa yang terinstal,berfungsi untuk menambah free memory aplikasi. Untuk menghapus bahasa yang tidak ingin kita gunakan bisa melaui menu Setup Wizard. Caranya buka menu setup wizard, centanglah bahasa yg ingin kita gunakan saja,misalnya cukup 2 bahasa yaitu inggris dan indonesia. Bahasa yg tidak kita centang akan terhapus waktu kita pilih finish.
Instal aplikasi seperlunya saja. Misalkan theme yg sering kita gunakan saja yg diinstal,karna theme mempunyai ukuran file yg lumayan besar yg akan mengurangi file free aplikasi. Aplikasi yg sekiranya fungsinya sama lebih baik diinstal salah satu.
Batasi contacts BBM dan Groups BBM (blackberry Messenger). Ini berfungsi untuk menghindari saat terjadi Broadcast Message secara bersamaan,sehingga BBM tidak bisa dibuka bahkan Blackberry bisa hang. Lakukan Clear chat bila sudah terlalu banyak… Bila isinya dianggap penting, bisa copy chat trus dipaste ke MemoPad terlebih dahulu baru di clear.
Lakukan Host Routing Table ( HRT ). Hal ini berfungsi untuk melancarkan koneksi antara handheld dengan server,sehingga tidak terjadi loading yg lama saat kita memerlukan jaringan yg stabil. HRT bisa dilakukan dengan cara : Buka menu > options > advanced options > host routing table > tekan menu > register now. Lakukan register now berulang2 minimal 5x. HRT juga bisa dilakukan bila jaringan lagi down sehingga handheld tidak terkoneksi dgn server.
Hapus email dan pesan yg tidak diperlukan lagi. Email dan pesan walau ukuran file kecil tapi bila terlalu banyak jg akan menghabiskan memory aplikasi sehingga memperlambat kinerja blackberry.
Lakukan Clear Log. Bila blackberry mulai terasa melambat kinerjanya coba lakukan Clear Log dgn cara menekan alt + LG + LG kemudian tekan menu ada pilihan clear log.
Hapus Cache Operations di Browser. Bila selesai melakukan browsing pasti akan meninggalkan sisa link yg telah kita buka. Bersihkan sisa2 link yg kita buka dgn cara buka menu browser > tekan menu > options > chace operations > Clear History.
Lakukan Clean Memory. Untuk membersihkan sisa memory aplikasi,bisa dilakukan dgn clean memory. Adapun langkahnya: Buka menu > options > security options > memory cleaning > tekan menu > clean now. Statusnya bisa dibuat enabled dan icon bisa dimunculkan di home screen,tapi hal ini akan memperlambat loading saat blackberry direstart.
Simpan file foto,mp3 dan fideo di memory eksternal. Usahakan menyimpan file foto,mp3 dan video di memory eksternal,karna bila disimpan di internal memory juga akan berpengaruh memperlambat kinerja blackberry.
Upgrade Software ke OS (operating system) Versi 5. Bila dengan langkah2 diatas kinerja blackberry anda masih lambat, bisa dilakukan upgrade software ke versi yg lebih baru. Sekarang sudah banyak keluar Operating System resmi versi 5 dari beberapa vendor yg bisa meningkatkan kinerja blackberry anda lebih cepat dan stabil.Smoga anda tidak kesal lagi dengan blackberry yg lemot….

Definition: The term bandwidth has a number of technical meanings but since the popularization of the Internet, it has generally referred to the volume of information per unit of time that a transmission medium (like an Internet connection) can handle. Here's a quick analogy: Data is to available bandwidth as water is to the size of the pipe. In other words, as the bandwidth increases, so does the amount of data that can flow through in a given amount of time, just like as the size of the pipe increases, so does the amount of water that can flow through during a period of time.

An Internet connection with a larger bandwidth can move a set amount of data (say, a video file) much faster than an Internet connection with a lower bandwidth. You can test your bandwidth availability for free using tools available at Internet speed test sites.

The following tips will help you to create strong, secure and hacker-proof passwords and phrases.

Tips for Creating a Strong Password

1. Use a strong password. A strong password contains a combination of six or more uppercase and lowercase letters, plus punctuation and numbers. Using all four types of characters works the best. For example instead of using welcome use W3Lc0mE^9.

2. Passwords should be eight or more characters in length. The longer the password, the harder it is to crack.

3. Never use the same password twice. If, for example, your eBay account were hacked and your password obtained, the hacker would have instant access to your PayPal account if you use the same password.

4. Do not use common information in your password, such as birthdates, your phone number, or other information directly related to you.

5. Passwords comprised of characters rather than proper words are more secure.

6. Refrain from writing passwords down, and do not login to accounts via a public computer (e.g., at the library or In cafe).

7. Never click an e-mail link and log into a secure site from an e-mail. Even if the e-mail looks legitimate, always type the URL into a browser yourself, then log in to your account. This will help you avoid phishing attacks.

8. Do not allow applications to store your passwords online, and remember to clear your browser cache, history and clear passwords frequently.

9. Remember to change your passwords frequently. The more important the account, the more frequently the password should be changed.

10. Never communicate a password to anyone, especially via e-mail or instant messenger. Passwords should always be kept private.

The Error 404 "Page not found"

Overview

The Error 404 "Page not found" is the error page displayed whenever someone asks for a page that’s simply not available on your site. The reason for this is that there may be a link on your site that was wrong or the page might have been recently removed from the site. As there is no web page to display, the web server sends a page that simply says "404 Page not found".

The 404 error message is an HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) standard status code. This "Not Found" response code indicates that although the client could communicate to the server, the server could not find what was requested or it was configured not to fulfill the request.
The 404 "Not Found" error is not the same as the "Server Not Found" error which you see whenever a connection to the destination server could not be established at all.
The default 404 error page as shown on Internet Explorer is given below.

HTTP Status Code

Whenever you visit a web page, your computer will request data from a server through HTTP. Even before the requested page is displayed in your browser, the web server will send the HTTP header that has the status code. The status code provides information about the status of the request. A normal web page gets the status code as 200. But we do not see this as the server proceeds to send the contents of the page. It’s only when there is an error, we see the status code 404 Not Found.

Origin of Status Codes

As a part of the HTTP 0.9 specifications, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) established HTTP status codes in 1992. Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the web and the first web browser in 1990, defined the status codes.

List of Status Codes

A brief overview of HTTP status codes is given below.

505	HTTP Version Not Supported	Server does not support the HTTP version specified in the request.

Meaning of 404

When we expand the code 404, the first digit “4” represents a client error. The server indicates that you did a mistake like misspelling the URL or requesting for a page that is no longer available.
The middle digit, 0 represents a general syntax error and could indicate a spelling mistake.
The last digit, 4 refers to a specific error in the group of 40x.
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) states that 404 Not Found should be used in cases where the server fails to find the requested location and is unsure of its status. Whenever a page has been permanently removed, the status code used must be 410. But hardly have we seen a 410 page. Instead, 404 Not Found page has become popular and the most commonly used error page.

Content of a 404 Error Page

A 404 response code is always followed by a human readable reason phrase as per the HTTP specification. Generally, a web server issues an HTML page that has the 404 code and the “Not Found” phrase by default. You can configure a web server to display a branded page with a better description and a search form. But the protocol level phrase requires no customization as it is hidden from the user.

Soft 404s

Soft 404 errors are actually “Not Found” errors returned by a web server as a standard web page with a 200 Ok response code. In an automated process of discovering a broken link, the soft 404 errors are problematic.
The BT Group of UK has a clean feed content blocking system that returns a 404 error to the requests for content identified as illegal by the Internet Watch Foundation. Even when the user tries to access the Government censored websites, a fake 404 error will be returned.

404 Error Percentages

Although the web statistics generally vary from month to month, based on the strategy used to eliminate 404 errors, and how active the website is, the percentage of 404 errors varies. Most active websites that have frequently changed or added content generally experience a higher number of Page Not Found errors. But there are many large and busy sites that achieve zero percent 404 errors over a period. On an average, around 7% of visits to any given web site will result in a 404 error page.

Tracking and Preventing 404 Errors

Log Files - Web Server log files help in tracking the 404 errors. These standard log files are just ASCII text files that have each HTTP protocol transaction, whether completed or not, recorded in them. Most of the HTTP errors are recorded in the transfer log and the error log files. If you have access to the log files of your website, you can observe the HTTP status code field. This field gives you an idea about the occurrence of 404 errors, their frequencies, consistencies, and also the referred document that led to the errors. Also find out the existence of any broken link on your site and the misspelled URL that led to the error. When you know all these information, you can easily correct the link and prevent 404 errors on your website.
Redirects – If you find a page that is consistently getting a 404 error, you can create a redirect page using the .htaccess file that automatically takes the users from an older page to its newer replacement. You can use Permanent and Temporary Redirects to "catch" old referrals from other sites and send the visitors to their intended information.
Robots File - If you have a section of your site with pages that are frequently changed, you can block the search engines from indexing them in their databases using robots.txt file so that you can prevent 404 errors.

Address or DNS – This field refers to the address of the computer making the HTTP request.
RFC931 – This field identifies the requestor. If no information is available, you’ll find the symbol – for this column in the log file.
AuthUser - This field has the authenticated user sent via clear text.
TimeStamp – This field has the date, time, and offset from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT x 100) recorded for each hit. You can even compare the time stamps between entries so that you’ll know how long a visitor stayed on a given page.
Access Request – This field has one of the three types of HTTP requests. Get request is for a document or program. POST is to tell the server that the data is following. HEAD is for use by the link checking programs.
Status Code – This field has the status code of 200 meaning that the transaction was successful. If the requested URL doesn’t exist, then you would have noticed the 404 code in the log.
Transfer Volume – This field shows the number of bytes transferred.
Referer URL – This field refers to the page where the visitor was located when making the next request.
User Agent – This field refers to the information such as the browser, version, and operating system of the reader.

Using Redirects

Redirects are very useful when used in conjunction with a 404 error page. To redirect a page, simply follow the steps given below.

Using robots.txt File

Robots.txt file is useful when there are frequently changing sections on your webpage. To use a robots.txt file, simply follow the steps given below.

Note: User-agent: * will apply to all search engines. Disallow command helps you to block complete directories or only the individual files that change.

Customization of 404 Error Pages

According to a recent poll conducted by the web masters, only 23% of visitors that encounter a 404 page make a second attempt to find the missing page. The rest 77% of visitors will not make any effort to find a missing page whenever they encounter a 404 error. So, customizing such an error page on your site will increase your chances of keeping those visitors on your site. A custom error page will be an added feature and advantage to your website. It shows that you care for your visitors and made an attempt to catch them.
Besides, there are many problems with the standard error page. They are:

It doesn’t convey any information to your visitor about why he was shown the error page
It fails to match with the other pages of your site
It doesn’t help the visitor in any way and the visitor feels lost on your website.

To avoid these problems and provide your visitor with a better user experience, it is always ideal to customize a 404 error page.

Qualities of a Good 404 Error Page

A good 404 error page conveys a right message and leads the visitor to where he intends to go.

It has an error message written in plain language so that even non-technical users will find it easy to understand. The tone of the message is slightly apologetic.
It has an error message that tells what went wrong without admonishing the visitor:
- Explains the user why the URL could not be found
- Lists the most common mistakes in accessing the files on the site
- Lists the consistent naming conventions used on the site
- Provides spell check functionality for the failed URLs
It allows the visitor to go to other important links of the site:
- Tempts the visitor about what’s popular.
- Links to main page or help files or a site FAQ
- Displays not more than 10 links

It has no ads displayed.
It avoids redirection of 301 and 302.

Note: There is no need for you to do all of these things on a single error page. But following these simple tactics will help your visitor to stay on your site.

Forcing Internet Explorer to Display Your Custom 404

Internet Explorer versions 5 and below do not support your customized error page if its size is less than 512 bytes. Make sure you create customized error page that has the size greater than 512 bytes. Note that this doesn’t include graphics. The best way is to add some filler text in comment lines in the source code of your file.
The versions 5 and above have friendly built in error page. But this is no replacement to a customized error page. You can even change the default behavior of the Internet Explorer.
1. Go to Tools Menu in the Internet Explorer and click the Internet Options.

2. You will be displayed with the Internet Options dialog box. Click the Advanced tab.

3. Uncheck the "Show friendly HTTP error messages" check box and then click the OK button at the end.

.htaccess File

The Hypertext access (.htaccess) file is the Apache's directory-level configuration file that allows you to manipulate the behavior of the server. Often, the .htaaccess file is accompanied by an .hpasswd file for storing valid usernames and respective passwords.
The .htaccess file is used to specify the security restrictions of a particular directory. It helps the server to rewrite URLs and control user agent caching so that bandwidth usage, server load and perceived lag are reduced to a great extent. More commonly, it is used for customizing error messages for server errors.

Using .htaccess File

Before we use any .htaccess file, we need to know that it’s the filename in full and not any extension. For example, we cannot create a file called "error.htaccess" and the file is just called ".htaccess".
When you place a ".htaccess" file in any directory, it will be loaded via the Apache Web Server software. The file will have effect over the other files in the entire directory it is placed in, including the subdirectories. You can use text editors like TextPad, UltraEdit or MS Wordpad to create a .htaccess file.
After you create .htaccess file, you must upload it using a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program. It is also important to note that while you upload the file, you need to upload it in "ASCII" mode.

Customizing 404 Error Page Using the .htaccess File on Apache Based Servers

It is not possible to customize your 404 error page if your web host has not enabled this facility for your website.
If your web host has this facility, you will usually find mentioning of this information somewhere in their documentation. In fact, if they mention somewhere that you can customize a file named ".htaccess", it probably means that you can also customize your 404 File Not Found error page.

3. Save the file as .htaccess. The name must be all lowercase i.e. .htaccess

Note: When you create a new .htaccess file, the resulting file may be named as - htaccess.txt If that is the case, remove the extension and rename the file to .htaccess.

Step 3: Upload Both Files

1. Open the FTP tool through which you upload your website files.
2. Upload the 404NotFound.php file to the folder you wish to upload.
3. Upload the .htaccess file to the top directory.

Step 4: Test the page.

1. Now test your error page by typing a URL that you know does not exist. Your error page should load up like the one shown below.

Common Errors with a 404 Custom Error Page

The most common error you will find is related to the URL. If you mention the URL incorrectly in the .htaccess file, it leads the web server into a loop when a visitor tries to access the missing file.
Another common error is related to the insertion of invalid hyperlinks on 404 Not Found page. So, When you provide the hyperlinks of other pages on the 404 Not Found page, make sure that they work and are not relative links. For Instance,

I'm trying to download software from a specific site, and no matter what I try to download I get this error message:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@******.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

How is this resolved?

I'm all too familiar with this error. I see it all the time when setting up or making changes to web sites.
The good news? It's not your fault.
The bad news? There's nothing you can do.

Quite literally an "Internal Server Error" is an error on the web server that you're trying to access. That server is misconfigured in some way that is preventing it from responding properly to what you're asking for.
Aside from informing the site owner - which may, or may not, be the "webmaster" email address that's included in the error message - there's absolutely nothing you can do to resolve this problem, because it's not your problem. The person who is responsible for the website needs to fix it.
So what if that's you? What if you're the webmaster?
Nine times out of 10, this error results from one of two very common errors:

An error in a cgi script that caused it to fail or output an error message before it started producing valid HTML. It happens to me all the time if I have a syntax error in one of my Perl cgi scripts.
A permissions issue attempting to access a cgi script. Depending on how your web server is configured, quite often it's not enough for the script to have "execute" permission, but it must also be owned by the correct user, and belong to the correct group. I can't tell you what that should be, since it varies widely from server to server (and even site to site on the same server). My best recommendation is to look at the attributes of a script that's working, and copy that.

The format of the error described here is common for Apache web servers. That means we can also look for common error logs. Once again, the location of these logs can vary a great deal based on the specific web server configuration.

access_log is the log of successful accesses. On a shared or virtual hosting server there may be many of these, one per web site, often with site-specific names, or in site-specific locations on the server.
error_log is the log of errors. One some hosts, there is an error log per site. On others, though, even though each site may have its own access_log, there may only be a single error_log for the system.
suexec_log is the log most people forget about. This log deals with the permissions used to execute cgi and other scripts. When a cgi fails to execute because its ownership is wrong, the generic "Internal Server Error" shows in the error log, but a more specific error detailing the permissions involved shows in this log.

And for the record, the message: "Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument..." indicates a second configuration error. When the web server encounters an error, the page it displays to report the error is actually just another .html file stored on the server. In all likelihood, the website has been configured to use "custom" error pages (meaning that the website can provide its own custom error messages), but the custom error pages were never created or configured.
