Just something I threw together this evening after work. It didn't take me too long, but then again it really isn't a finished work, just a little something for fun.

I had a recent freelance job, I thought I'd show you all and take a break from my usual fare. I haven't had a full color illustration up for a while, so I decided it was about time. Any way, I'm sure everyone is familiar with the phrase "Nero fiddled while Rome burned" Well that's the image I made here. Here's my initial sketch which I did on toned paper. I then scanned it in and worked on it digitally.

So here's the final smokey product, a demented Nero strumming away while his ash ridden city goes up in flames. I even tried to make him look a little sooty. I've been around a few massive fires in Florida when I was growing up, I can only imagine what it was like in a dense population center. It probably wasn't good for people with allergies.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

So my long journey of the zombie coloring book draws to a close. I still have a few more things to work out as I get the book ready. I know I said I'd have it finished by today, but I still have some things to iron out, so I can turn out a product with a certain modicum of quality. I think I've decided on a name though. I'm calling it:

THE UNDEAD ALPHABET

A Fun and Educational Coloring Book for All Ages

I think that title rolls off the tongue a bit better than The ABC zombie coloring book. It's less clunky and utilitarian. Anyway, I think the book is going to be available in two formats. I'm going to make it into pdf that you can download and printout, and I'm making an actual physical book that you can order directly here on the blog. I'll have more on that quite soon. So stay tuned for more developments.

It's fun to work on these for a variety of reasons. I typically don't just do stark black and white compositions. I'm also trying to simplify my style to a degree, but still keep it interesting. It's challenging. I don't know how successful I was with this one, but we'll see how things go.

I actually colored this one in with crayons. I printed several of these for my students in my after school program. They loved it. I must be on the right track.

It's October, that means it's Halloween season! That's right horror fans, that most merry of morbid holidays is upon us. In celebration of its arrival I have decided to create a terrible assembly of illustrations for your coloring pleasure. I present to you The ABC Zombie Coloring Book. This will be a fun and educational tool for kids to become acquainted to life with the undead. Adults may also find some wisdom in its instruction and have a few happy moments coloring in brain matter and the like.

I'm planning on have all the letters done by the 31st of October. So today we have the very first letter, and some sound advice.

Tavern Tuesday: (Der) Minimalist

Minimialist is an uber hip club, where only the most elite of the hipsters congregate to discuss the weighty and brooding subjects which are just way too intense for the rest of us. Located in an old industrial district in Berlin, it was once called Der Minialist ( The Minimalist) however they considered the definitive article to be far too ostentatious, and removed it. That wasn't the only thing that had to go. After a while, all of the furniture and the bar was removed, leaving only a giant white room. The final stroke was when the door handle was removed, thus preventing anyone form even entering the vast empty space. Now all the patrons simply mingle outside and discuss the weighty post modern significance of their blank empty building.

Tavern Tuesday: The Flying Dragon (Revisited)

I was toying with one of the old pieces, because I didn't have time to work on an original this week. I'm in the middle of some freelance work, as well as my full time and part time job. So all work and no play makes M. Scott bad at posting new works. Hope you'll like this new variation though.

Formerly Wellington Pub, it's now the only operating tavern in the British Isles. Joe is also the last known human in the UK not part of the legions of the undead, so your dining experience is sure to be intimate. Be sure to get their quick though, the masses are just dying to get in.

A little slice of Cajun heaven buried deep in the swamp. Bayou Beaux's was established during prohibition and kept hidden for a time in the marshy expanses of gator infested waters.
