I started making xeroxed books of my drawings when I was around 17 or so. I didn't really know what I was doing at first, which cost me all my lunch money since the copy machine at school cost 10 cents a copy. It wasn't until I was able to drive and stay out at all hours that I found out about kinkos. I would head there at 2 in the morning and play around on the machines and never pay for a single sheet. The employees didn't care, as they were all college students trying to meet some large copy job deadline behind the counters. I made large posters of my drawings, and thousands of stickers. I stole employee cards and as my skills grew, I would make dozens of books and started selling them. This is all nearly impossible now, as times have changed and kinkos went corporate, putting their foot down on any sort of funny activity and putting a halt on their 24 hour jam.
So I started heading in at lunchtime, when office managers and interns are rushing in to try and make 500 pamphlets or whatever, I go ignored and am able to play again. I feel bad for kids trying to do the same thing in this day and age (though not really, as I am older and fatter and slower, and am still finding new ways to spread my art disease for cheap.)

"W/R/I/N/K/L/E/S" is made up of drawings that were way too large to try and put onto a photocopier. They were scanned on a blueprint drum scanner, then sat on a hard drive, until now.
I screenprinted the cover with the skull ( I based it on a skull from the Mexican bingo game "loteria") and used my government name, at the request of my Father, who was a painter in his youth and signs, "R. Amador" on his paintings.

Sneak-peek of some of the pages.

Mock-up mini, as I can't envision things without drawing them out first.

16 black and white pages. Screenprinted cover on thick Canson paper. Signed edition of 50.

California Burial

2013-02-07T02:10:00.000-08:00

I had some prints of my "California Burial" painting made. Digital print, 11'' by 17" on nice heavy paper. I package 'em up nicely and ship anywhere in the world.

Also, I jokingly mentioned on my instagram (@obamador) that I'd customize the print and take a dollar off, and it got a crazy response, so I drew on a bunch of em, making some of the teeth gold, or overspraying spray paint and spider web paint all over 'em. It was fun. So much fun, that I went a little overboard on about 10 of them. I intended on making an "open edition" style print, meaning, I'd sign, but wasn't going to number them so I could keep making them without angering collectors....but whats the fun in that? So I made a special edition of 9 level 5 "Burial" prints in which I went all out and drew on em with everything I have on my drawing desk (spray paint, paint pens, dandruff, markers, ink, etc).

Anyways, they're available on my ETSY store for a measley 20 dollars. I also like to include stickers and love letters in each order. Speaking of, I got some stickers of some drawings made on MOO. They came out pretty neat. Think I'll make some more.

Also, I will be showing some drawlings and what not as well as have a merch booth at the arthouse this next art hop, February 7th, if that is something you're into.

Dia De Los Muertos 2012

2012-10-29T11:38:00.001-07:00

Some iPhone shots of the painting I did for the annual Dia De Los Muertos show at Arte Americas. I only had 2 weeks to work on it, and actually lagged until the weekend before to start it...something about panic that fuels my process and gets the creative wheels rolling. The painting is a tribute to my Grandparents, so its only right that I worked all night fueled by coffee, as they were caffeine and nicotine fueled insomniac workaholics. I miss them dearly, and like to think that they would have liked this painting.

The, "Cala Gala", Arte's DDLM celebration is this Friday, November 2nd, with a procession rolling through the Fulton Mall that ends at Arte. I'll be there probably fully painted up. Or I might make a mask or something. I dunno yet. Come hang out, I think I'm gonna make some shirts to sell.

seven years of hair

2012-09-27T16:03:00.000-07:00

I've been spending countless hours scanning and editing years and years of sketchbooks the past couple o' weeks. Its been a complete fucking headtrip/time-machine-like opening old diaries. I thought those feelings went away? Every liner-note/rant transports me to the time in which it was written/drawn. Of course, I can also look at them and appreciate them aesthetically-so crazy to see where I was in 2005/2007-so much of it is terrible, but theres some gems hidden.
Lots of techniques and magic I don't feel I can recreate.

Specifically, "June 2007"; The time in which it was composed/completed was such an angst-ridden, confusing, dark time. Mickey Mouse dark. Not like "drug" dark. Lots of not-sleeping, staying out to all hours, hanging out at places I would never hang out at, etc. Was going through a break-up, which made me throw myself into my art. You can see it happening. I was heavily influenced by artists like Barron Storey, John Copeland, and my big brother, Josh Wigger, at the time, and I still am to an extent, but you can tell at a certain point in this book, that I was starting to find my own voice.

Three New Drawings about Life, Love, Change, & The Such

2012-09-20T01:41:00.001-07:00

Pen and Ink on Nice Paper. 18" x 18". 2012.

On lack of updates and a New Sketchbook Directors Cut

2012-08-15T11:31:00.000-07:00

Introducing "b", my new sketchbook, as the one I originally got to replace "a", was full of shit paper.

Some drawlings from the new sketchbook. Featured, are some skelly-studies, some foot studies, a drawing of Sylvestor Stallone from The Expendables/Carl's Jr cup, Some font studies, a fox drawling, and a drawing of Will Mcavoy from my new favorite show, The Newsroom*.

*Decided to go the extra mile and feature directors commentary on these drawlings...enjoy!

Putting good ol' "a" to rest and on the sketchbook shelf, as she is full. I'll have select pages on my website sometime in the future.

Updates will come very slowly, as my trusty desktop is done after some mechanical/hardware problems, and deemed unfixable.

Portland or Bust!

2012-07-16T17:27:00.001-07:00

One of my bestest good friends in the world is getting married this Saturday, unfortunately(for me), he and his wonderful lady, live in Portland.
I dont want to miss it, but I might, which is why I have decided to have a "fire sale" of sorts, on here and on my Etsy store, to try and pay for my girlfriend and I, to make the trip.

I've put most of the shadow boxes Steve Ruppel and I made last winter up for sale for a pretty doggone good price.
I'm also planning on putting some small framed drawings up for sale as well.

Making Friends Meat

2012-07-11T16:39:00.001-07:00

A week long delayed "thank you" to everyone that came out to Broadway Studios last Thursday...it was a pretty awesome night; lots of familiar faces, and new ones too. I was surprised by the number of folks that made it out despite the amount of post-fouth of July hangovers I'm sure were circling about.
Also, thank you to Light Thieves for putting on a crazy post art hop-impromptu performance.
Truly un-expected and epic.

TONIGHT!

2012-07-05T13:26:00.000-07:00

TONIGHT! I will be showing some arts at Broadway Studios! Christian Vargas will be showing at P*De*Q! Niilo Smeds will be playing some tunes! It's super hot today, and I'm already drenched in sweat!
See you all there!

Making Ends Meat

2012-06-20T00:11:00.001-07:00

I'm having a show next month, the day after the fourth of July, at my old studio. Double negative as most will be curing a hangover, and also my old studio isn't what it used to be, or so I hear. Time to show the kids how its done. Might get crazy. Might not...most likely will. Also, it will be really hot. I'll try and post some work progress as I'm trying to get back on my blogging game.

CA bearial: redux

2012-06-18T20:45:00.002-07:00

lightboxed and inked the California Bearial painting. the original painting was painted "straight-ahead" style, meaning no prior sketching or planning, but i like the image of the grizzly profile, and wanted to silk-screen it sometime in the future, so i made a pen and ink version.

2012-05-03T02:59:00.000-07:00

I was approached by the AntiLabs guys to do this show and thought it would be fun to take it back to the old days of throwing some drawlings in some spray painted thrift store frames. Got some new stuff along with some old stuff and prints. I'll be there selling zines and prints and Amador Dry Goods. Sahab is playing some sweet tunes as well. See ya' there!
