Whrrl is another social site (and app) designed for mobile users where you can find people with similar interests.  Find a group and join it (or create your own).  You can then use the location service to keep track of where you are and then find people near you with those interests.  You can share recommendations, photos, and stories.  It basically gives you the opportunity to learn more about your passion and to share the experience with others.

If you regularly use a smart phone or other mobile device, you’ve got to check out Foursquare.  Specifically designed for mobile users, it is a social application that allows you to more easily explore cities.  You can tell friends where you are (or find them), track the details of your visit, and rate your experience for everything from clubs to restaurants to hotels.  If you visit a place more than anyone else, you can become the “mayor” with special perks.  Sound addictive?

This is an interesting concept.  You can create your own “lemonade stand” composed of products that you like.  You then can add your lemonade stand to your Facebook account.  For anyone who purchases something via your stand (by linking through to the retailer), you can actually earn money!  They are in the middle of a site upgrade right now, but check back soon.  This ain’t like your childhood lemonade stand – this is a stand for the big boys. 

Here’s a cool web site if you need to supplement your memory or replace that red string around your finger.  Evernote is like a personal notebook where you can capture text, web page clippings, images, photos, screen shots, etc.  You can organize and search on anything you have saved on the site and access it from any computer or mobile device.  They have some interesting ideas for using this service such as taking photos of business cards, trip planning, to-do lists, gift lists, capturing interesting things you have found online, and much more.

Looking for a way to deliver just the right message, so there is no misunderstanding?  The Bureau of Communication web site has a large selection of fill-in-the-blank stationary that you can use to send a formal apology, a statement of gratitude, a declaration of romantic interest, or an airing of grievance.  The site allows you to fill in the details and then email it to someone.  What better way to say “I love you”, then to send a formal document so there is no misunderstanding

Have a Garmin or TomTom GPS?  PIG Tones (”Politically Incorrect GPS”) has some very funny voices you can download to your device at a small fee.  They even provide a small program that installs it onto your device automatically.  Their TomTom installations are apparently a bit easier than Garmin, but I own a Garmin and it was pretty easy for me (plus, Pig Tones is a Garmin authorized partner).  They also have a lot of POI (Points Of Interest) Maps.  Personally, I downloaded the Stewie, Yoda, Gollum, and Drill Sergeant voices and they are hillarious!

HootSuite is a social media dashboard.  It is designed for teams to track results from multiple social networks (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Wordpress, etc) using a single interface.  It has powerful tools allowing you to schedule tweets, upload files, manage your followers, run reports, track statistics, advanced search, and much more!  So, if you work for a company that is involved heavily in the social media world or if you are just a social butterfly, you have got to check out this tool.

Here’s a fun web site from the same guys who brought you Uncrate.  On Devour, the site administrators hand pick the best videos from YouTube and send them to your inbox on a daily basis.  All of the videos are in HD and they all play on the iPhone and iPad.  So, you no longer have to stumble around on YouTube looking for something fun to watch.  These guys do all the work!

Uh … ok.  Want a clock made of people?  A little something creepy for your desktop, perhaps?  This might appeal to the Yoga folks out there.  Have fun watching all the positions.

If you are an avid reader of mine, then you have probably noticed that I post a lot about astronomy.  Here is another good site called “Stellarium“.  This is actually an application that you can download.  It is a free open source planetarium for your computer.  And it is very feature rich!  They have a wiki with full details about the program as well as regular news releases about new features and such.  Check it out.

Here’s a game that will keep you coming back for more.  A simple first-person shooter called Pukis.  They are creatures infesting Deep Space Station G-7.  They make a fun blood splatter when you kill them.  Enjoy.

This site, hosted by USAToday, shows a Flash animation of how the International Space Station was assembled.  It shows the dates that each module was added as well as future additions.  You can click on each section for a more detailed look.

Univers Resolved is a 3-D alphabet invented by Ji Lee using a geometric formula.  Its goal is to provide an alternative to the trend developed over thousands of years of reading from left to right and from top to bottom as is the case with the Latin alphabet.  This linear thinking also spills over into other aspects of the world.  This alphabet is symmetrical and designed to be read forward, backwards, up, down, or even circular!  The site also has a reading test to challenge your skills.

Here’s an interesting way to shop for products.  On Coverpop, everything is arranged in categories.  Once you’ve chosen the category you are interested in, you are shown a visual dump of all the available products that you can get at Amazon.com.  Just mouse-over the product and a pop-up will appear with more detail.  Clicking on it will take you over to that specific product on Amazon.  Cool, eh?

This blog shows stills from episodes of the Simpsons along side the movies they were taken from.  It is amazing how many of these scenes were actually taken from movies.  If you are an avid fan like I am, you should be very familiar with many of these images from the cartoon.  I just didn’t realize they came from movies!  The obvious ones, of course, are the Shining, Psycho, Alfred Hitchcock, The Karate Kid, and The Godfather.  Check it out.
