Plastic is made from petroleum; the processing and burning of which is considered one of the main contributors to global warming. Instead of throwing plastic bags away, think about recycling them, and even reusing them when possible. Also, many grocery stores offer reusable cloth grocery bags, of which could help drastically cut down on plastic waste.

Almost half a home’s energy consumption is due to heating and cooling. Turn down the thermostat in cold weather and keep it higher in warm weather.

Cut down on paper, and if possible, think about using “tree-free” 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Paper with a high post-consumer waste content uses less virgin pulp and keeps more waste paper out of landfills.

Leaving unnecessary lights on is a large factor in wasted electricity. Don’t forget to turn off the lights at night, or any time they are not in use. Also, energy-efficient light bulbs can help drastically decrease your energy consumption.

Recycle! Always keep a designated recycling bin in the home and office. Recycling is one of the most important factors of greener living.

Below you can get a behind-the-scenes look at David Ragan preparing for the commercial with The Auto Moto appearing behind him.

Since his UPS racing debut at the Daytona 500 in February 2009, David Ragan the 24 year old driver has proven to be capable of filling the shoes of his predecessor Dale Jarrett. David has quickly become a crowd favorite with young fans and engaged the audience via his blog and humorous new tv commercial series, the “Maximum Driver” Challenges, in which David competes in various extreme physical challenges to determine who will earn the title of “Maximum Driver.”

The Auto Moto Three Wheel Scooter is the star of the new UPS television commercial recently premiered at the Daytona 500. The Auto Moto driven by David Ragan in this commercial is now up for grabs in the UPS Racing ONLINE SWEEPSTAKES.

Congratulations! You’ve done it! Your hard work and effort to reduce your carbon footprint last year has paid off and, we would like to think, Planet Earth is just a little bit happier to hear that the worldwide rise in CO₂ levels slowed by half in 2008. Now, we understand that just slowing the rate means CO₂ levels are still increasing but you have to slow down and stop before you can go in reverse. We are also aware that a large part of the decline has to do with the high price of oil and the global economic slowdown which has had negative effects on lots of people, but if there is a silver lining to those financial storm clouds to be had, this may well be it.

The good news comes to us via a study by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) which points out that the use of biofuels and an increase in the use of renewables has helped achieve the encouraging result. It’s also worth noting that America actually reduced emissions by 3 percent and that the continuing increases are mostly occurring in developing countries. One final positive worth underlining is that 2008 was the first year investment in renewables was greater than investments in fossil-fuelled technologies. So, keep it up and hopefully we’ll have an even better result to celebrate next year!
