The BD Weekly Podcast 15: Piers Gough on the week's big stories

This week Piers Gough joins the show to give his characteristically outspoken take on the week's big stories.

We take a look at the growing trend of commercial firms snapping up design talent in an attempt to compete with the big signature practises. Will it work?

Also, why Gough thinks that architecture graduates need to stop worrying so much about gaining experience and stay creative to ride out the recession.

Finally, following news that the LDA is insisting on high-quality architects in its London schemes, Gough calls on the HCA to roll out the principle nationwide.

The BD Weekly Podcast 14: Glenn Howells on listings policy & an interview David Chipperfield

Glenn Howells is in the studio hot seat, and we speak to David Chipperfield at the opening of his new exhibition.

This week on the BD Podcast we talk to Howells about architecture minister Margaret Hodge's decision to list the US Embassy, and her hint at a new listing policy on 20th Century buildings.

In a BD exclusive interview, she suggested that only buildings 'fit for purpose' should be listed, and only those which include the best examples of an architect's work or a particular building type.

And, after the glitter of the Stirling, we look at the plunge in viewing figures. Is this just a result of the X Factor? Changes in viewing patterns? Or is a revamp of the format needed?

Also, we catch up with David Chipperfield ahead of the opening of his new exhibition at the Design Museum, Form Matters, and ask what the exhibition is trying to achieve.

The BD Weekly Podcast 13: Ben Derbyshire on housing and architectural ethics and an interview with James Wines

Ben Derbyshire, MD of HTA, joins the show to talk about what Kevin McCloud's HAB scheme means for the wider industry, and why RIBA should be taking a lead on architectural ethics.

Up for discussion in this week's edition, hosted by editor Amanda Baillieu, was a look at the news that Kevin McCloud's HAB has finally got planning permission for a 42-home scheme in Swindon.

Will the star dust factor lead to the volume house builders taking a greater interest in green building? Or is it just a grand design gone wrong?

Next, as politics enters the Stirling Prize with the £20,000 prize tied up with a donation to Amnesty International, we ask what stance the RIBA should take on ethical issues.

And lastly, we talk to American sculpture and designer James Wines about architecture in the age of austerity.
