Two of the #chickens still broody. The past 3 nights I've lifted them out of the nestbox to put them up on the perch. They are quite ornery. #

Two of my pullets (now 5 weeks old) are sitting in a nest box together, even though it is after dark and there are no eggs under them. #
Oops, realized I wrote "5 weeks old", but meant "5 months old". It would be pretty amazing if they were laying at 5 weeks! #

Kind of disappointed, only 1 egg today, first 1-egg day in over a week. The chickens are spending a lot of time in the nest boxes though. #
Another 1-egg day. Only 6 eggs in the past 4 days (2 in the past 2) after getting 11 in a 4-day span last week. Should I be concerned? #

Eggcellent surprise!

The chickens, now about 19 weeks old, had been acting kind of strangely for about a week — spending good portions of the day in the henhouse, despite the heat. They seemed to be exploring the two nestboxes with more frequency. Then I went away for a few days, and when I came back, I looked in the nestboxes, and saw two eggs!

So I fried them up for a small snack (the eggs are rather small), and they were delicious. Over the past 3 days, they’ve laid 2 more eggs. I think only one of the chickens is laying right now, but I think all 4 are going into the henhouse while the laying is going on. So I can’t wait until all 4 start laying. Then it will be time to break out the egg recipes!
