Dispensing

• Dispense prescriptions in accordance within legal and ethical guidelines. This includes reordering of ethical stock, supervising the dispensing assistants and general supervision of the overall cleanliness and orderliness of the dispensary. 
• Check dosage and ensuring that medicines are correctly and safely supplied and labeled, supervising the preparation of any medicines which require making up.
• Ensure accurate dispensing of drugs at all times following Company SOPS, Policies and GPhC directives and guidelines.
• Report dispensing errors immediately and accurately following company and GPhC directives and guidelines. Manage dispensing assistants and pharmacy technicians in reporting the same.
• Keep a register of controlled drugs for legal and stock control purposes.
• Liaison with GP’s and other medical professionals about prescriptions.
• Selling over the counter medicines.
• Advising patients on the treatment of minor ailments
• Advising patients of any adverse side effects of medicines or potential interactions with other medicines and treatments.

 Services to Nursing Homes and Residential Homes

• Dispense regular medication on monthly basis in containers or monitored dosage system as agreed with home.
• Pharmacist check weekly trays before delivery and oversee that Technicians ensure boxes are clean and trays and back sheets correct each week before delivery.
• Visits to homes to be made regularly to review medicine usage/storage and advice offered.
• Ensure all sundry items correctly allocated to accounts.
• Ensure all MAR sheets printed to accurately reflect dosage required.
• Ensure additional labels are provided with short term and new medication to allow homes to up date MAR sheets.
• Order prescriptions where necessary.
• Dispense and check all medication as per GPhC requirements.

 Stock

• Clear invoices against advice notes and goods delivered.
• Claim credits due. Deal with damaged and short deliveries.
• Operate the stock control and stocktaking procedures.
• Keep dispensary stock on budget.

 Enhanced Service Provision

• Undertaking Medicine Use Reviews (MUR)
• Managing a needle and syringe supply
• Monitoring and offering advice on blood pressure and cholesterol levels
• Offering a diabetes screening service; weight management and alcohol consumption advice; providing healthy living advice and guidance.

 Customer Service

• Develop and maintain good customer relations.
• Deal with complaints, queries, credits and replacements.
• Develop new business including developing relationships with Doctors surgeries and local nursing and rest homes.
• Follow sales procedures when selling to customers.

 Staff

• Undertake staff appraisals and assess performance
• Assist with staff training
• Control and direct the work of the pharmacy team
• Assist and support other pharmacists and branch retail managers
• Encourage effective team work and problem solving
• Ensure the Health & Wellbeing of staff

BADHAM PHARMACY TO CELEBRATE 75 YEARS WITH GRAND REOPENING AND UNVEILING OF CELEBRATORY PLAQUE

Saturday 17^th October 2015 marks the 75^th Anniversary of the founding of Badham Pharmacy Ltd.  Badham Pharmacy was founded by Richard Guillimont Badham when he opened his first shop at 102 Whaddon Road, Cheltenham.  To mark this occasion, Alex Chalk, MP for Cheltenham, will be reopening the branch at 102 Whaddon Road, Cheltenham at 11am to which members of the public are invited.  He will also be unveiling a celebratory plaque in commemoration of Richard Guillimont Badham.

Since that time, the company has grown by means of acquisitions and the opening of new branches.  It now comprises 16 branches within Gloucestershire and Avon and also has a dedicated Mobility outlet at the St Pauls Medical Centre.

Peter Badham, Managing Director said “We are delighted that Alex Chalk is able to celebrate this achievement with us and some of our customers.  75 years of exceptional service is a milestone to be celebrated.”

Badham Pharmacy will also be giving away a free celebration bag in their shops on this day with all purchases over £5.00 (excluding prescription charges and while stocks last).  In the evening they will be holding a Gala Dinner and Excellence Awards event for staff and invited guests.

If you would normally visit your doctors surgery for the flu jab you can now choose to get vaccinated at the pharmacy by one of our fully qualified pharmacists instead.

Who can have a free NHS flu vaccination at the pharmacy?

Eligible adult patients are people aged 18 years and over, at the time of vaccination, defined in the annual flu letter. They include:

• people aged 65 years and over (including those becoming age 65 years by 31 March 2016);
• pregnant women;
• carers;
• people aged from eighteen to less than 65 years of age with one or more of the following medical conditions:
  • chronic (long-term) respiratory disease, such as severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or bronchitis;
  • chronic heart disease, such as heart failure;
  • chronic kidney disease at stage three, four or five;
  • chronic liver disease;
  • chronic neurological disease, such as Parkinson’s disease or motor neurone disease, or learning disability;
  • diabetes;
  • splenic dysfunction; or
  • a weakened immune system due to disease (such as HIV/AIDS) or treatment (such as cancer treatment).

Ask at the pharmacy for more information about how to get your free flu vaccination. There’s no need to queue up on a specific day as appointments usually aren’t necessary.

What if I’m not eligible for a free vaccination?

If you aren’t eligible for a free vaccination you can still choose to pay for a flu vaccination at the pharmacy (subject to availability and patient eligibility).

What if I normally visit the GP for my flu vaccination?

This service runs alongside the usual GP vaccination programmes so this means people can choose where they want to receive their NHS vaccination and when.

Our pharmacists are fully trained to give vaccinations and they will be giving patients exactly the same vaccinations as the local GP practices.

If you choose to have your free vaccination at our pharmacy, the pharmacist will deal with the necessary paperwork in order to inform your GP that you have received your vaccination this year from us.

Did you know?

The NHS aims to vaccinate 75% of at risk patients against flu every year. Last year just 44.1% of people in some groups had the vaccine.

By extending the service to pharmacies the NHS hopes to increase the number of at risk patients being vaccinated due to the fact that 89.2% of the population live with a 20 minute walk of a pharmacy.

Can I receive vaccination in a private room?

Of course you can. We provide private consultation rooms in all our branches. Any pharmacy providing the flu vaccination service must have a private consultation room to administer the service. Our private consultation rooms will be signposted in all our branches. These rooms are used to give customers a range of advice on medicines and other medical conditions.

Are pharmacists trained to give vaccinations?

Pharmacists are experts in medicines but like doctors and nurses, they have to undertake special training before they can give flu vaccinations. The training is to the same standard as all other NHS healthcare professionals. Many of our pharmacists have been trained to provide private flu vaccinations over the past few years, however these pharmacists also receive refresher training every year.

I’m a carer of at risk patient, can I have a free vaccination too?

People who are in receipt of a carer’s allowance, or those who are the main carer of an older or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill are also eligible for the free flu vaccination. If there is someone (18 years or older) you rely upon to care for you, they can also contact us to ask for a free flu vaccination.
