Well now I have the answer.

Bulls are animals that fight with their horns. When bulls attack, they try to lift their prey with their horns, thus thrusting upwards. In a stock market bulls are optimestics and expect prices to rise. They are thus buyers of the stocks.

Bears are animals that fight with their claws. They will rise on their hind legs, raise their claws and pull down their prey. So figuratively speaking bears want to pull down the markets down.

Interesting points :)

An Idea Can Change Your Life

Mackye Gruber keeps you on your foot till the end. Its a fantastic movie and has been picturised in such a fashion than you have to use your brains to understand whats going on.

"The Butterfly Effect" is the effect of change in something as small as the flutter of butterfly's wings can ultimately cause a typhoon/tornado halfway around the globe. A more technical definition of the term has been highlighted in wikipedia. Do go through its interesting.

The term has been well captured in the movie werein Evan Treborn (Ashton Kutcher), who suffered severed traumas during is childhood is able to alter events (From Mathematical Standpoint - Initial Conditions) in his past. However this changes result in dire concequences, as it changes his future too. For example he turned out to be in Jail insted of being in college.

This is the butterfly effect werein small changes in initial conditions (His Past) can result in catostropic effects (Outcome in future).

Do watch it, its a dam good movie.

Also go through the following links as they give a good info on Butterfly Effect and the movie Review.

The Concept : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_effect
The Movie : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Butterfly_Effect

Sub Prime Crisis

Loans given to sub-prime borrowers, something banks would normally be reluctant to do, are categorized as sub-prime loans. Typically, it is the poor and the young who form the bulk of sub-prime borrowers.

Why loans were given?

In roughly five years leading up to 2007, many banks started giving loans to sub-prime borrowers, typically through subsidiaries. They did so because they believed that the real estate boom, which had more than doubled home prices in the US since 1997, would allow even people with dodgy credit backgrounds to repay on the loans they were taking to buy or build homes. Government also encouraged lenders to lend to sub-prime borrowers, arguing that this would help even the poor and young to buy houses.

With stock markets booming and the system flush with liquidity, many big fund investors like hedge funds and mutual funds saw sub-prime loan portfolios as attractive investment opportunities. Hence, they bought such portfolios from the original lenders. This in turn meant the lenders had fresh funds to lend. The sub prime loan market thus became a fast growing segment.

What was the interest rate on sub-prime loans?

Since the risk of default on such loans was higher, the interest rate charged on sub-prime loans was typically about two percentage points higher than the interest on prime loans. This, of course, only added to the risk of sub-prime borrowers defaulting. The repayment capacity of sub-prime borrowers was in any case doubtful. The higher interest rate additionally meant substantially higher EMIs than for prime borrowers, further raising the risk of default.

Further, lenders devised new instruments to reach out to more sub-prime borrowers. Being flush with funds they were willing to compromise on prudential norms. In one of the instruments they devised , they asked the borrowers to pay only the interest portion to begin with. The repayment of the principal portion was to start after two years.

How did this turn into a crisis?

The housing boom in the US started petering out in 2007. One major reason was that the boom had led to a massive increase in the supply of housing. Thus house prices started falling. This increased the default rate among subprime borrowers, many of whom were no longer able or willing to pay through their nose to buy a house that was declining in value.

Since in home loans in the US, the collateral is typically the home being bought, this increased the supply of houses for sale while lowering the demand, thereby lowering prices even further and setting off a vicious cycle. That this coincided with a slowdown in the US economy only made matters worse. Estimates are that US housing prices have dropped by almost 50% from their peak in 2006 in some cases. The declining value of the collateral means that lenders are left with less than the value of their loans and hence have to book losses.

How did this become a systemic crisis?

One major reason is that the original lenders had further sold their portfolios to other players in the market. There were also complex derivatives developed based on the loan portfolios, which were also sold to other players, some of whom then sold it on further and so on.

As a result, nobody is absolutely sure what the size of the losses will be when the dust ultimately settles down. Nobody is also very sure exactly who will take how much of a hit. It is also important to realize that the crisis has not affected only reckless lenders. For instance, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, which owned or guaranteed more than half of the roughly $12 trillion outstanding in home mortgages in the US, were widely perceived as being more prudent than most in their lending practices. However, the housing bust meant that they too had to suffer losses — $14 billion combined in the last four quarters - because of declining prices for their collateral and increased default rates.

The forced retreat of these two mortgage giants from the market, of course, only adds to every other player’s woes.

What has been the impact of the crisis?

Global banks and brokerages have had to write off an estimated $512 billion in sub-prime losses so far, with the largest hits taken by Citigroup ($55.1 bn) and Merrill Lynch ($52.2 bn). A little more than half of these losses, or $260 bn, have been suffered by US-based firms, $227 billion by European firms and a relatively modest $24 bn by Asian ones. Despite efforts by the US Federal Reserve to offer some financial assistance to the beleaguered financial sector, it has led to the collapse of Bear Sterns, one of the world’s largest investment banks and securities trading firm. Bear Sterns was bought out by JP Morgan Chase with some help from the Fed.

The crisis has also seen Lehman Brothers - the fourth largest investment bank in the US - file for bankruptcy. Merrill Lynch has been bought out by Bank of America. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae have effectively been nationalized to prevent them from going under.

Reports suggest that insurance major AIG (American Insurance Group) is also under severe pressure and has asked for a $40 bn bridge loan to tide over the crisis. If AIG also collapses, that would really test the entire financial sector.

How is the rest of the world affected?

Apart from the fact that banks based in other parts of the world also suffered losses from the subprime market, there are two major ways in which the effect is felt across the globe. First, the US is the biggest borrower in the world since most countries hold their foreign exchange reserves in dollars and invest them in US securities.

Thus, any crisis in the US has a direct bearing on other countries, particularly those with large reserves like Japan, China and - to a lesser extent - India. Also, since global equity markets are closely interlinked through institutional investors, any crisis affecting these investors sees a contagion effect throughout the world.

Love a Metaphysical Gravity

Its a simple and sweet teen comedy. It Brought out my old college day memories... :) . The movie has all the right ingredients with Amir Khan as the producer, Imran Khan (Amirs Nephue) and Genelia as the new teen actors who have done a wonderful job. They are the new generation pairs to watch out. Apart from the the indertermediate comedies by Nazarudinn Shah and his so called wife was also Just Fabulus. The endng could have been much better but as always Bollywood never leaves out an airport ending. Anyways the Movie is really a great watch and songs are fantastic. Check out the lyrics of the song Papu Cant Dace Sala .... You will enjoy it....

Mentos Zindaji

The Babri mosque in Ayodhya in northern India was destroyed by a mob of vandals.

Evil in Disguise

6th December 1982 was one of the glorious moments in the History of Indian Culture, as an Evil Guineas called Ajay Balachandran was born :D .

First U.S. satellite launch fails

In 1957, America's first attempt at putting a satellite into orbit failed when the Vanguard rocket carrying it blew up on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral, Florida. With a series of rumbles audible for miles around, the vehicle, having risen about four feet into the air, suddenly sank. Falling against the firing structure, fuel tanks rupturing as it did so, the rocket toppled to the ground on the northeast or ocean side of the structure in a roaring, rolling, ball-shaped volcano of flame.

Microwave oven

In 1945, the microwave oven was patented.

First aerial photo of Stonehenge

In 1906, the first aerial photographs of Stonehenge - the first aerial photographs of any British archaeological monument - were displayed at the London premises of the Society of Antiquaries. They were taken from a hydrogen balloon, probably around late Sep 1906, by 2nd Lieutenant Philip Sharpe of the Royal Engineers' Balloon Section. He had been stationed since 15 Sep 1906 at Bulford Camp on Salisbury Plain, very close to Stonehenge. The first intentional aerial photo for archaeological purposes was taken in Jun 1899, of excavations at the Forum in Rome.

Transit of Venus

In 1882, the transit of Venus across the sun was photographed on a series of glass plate negatives made by Amherst College astronomer David Peck Todd. He used a solar photographic telescope stationed on the summit of Mount Hamilton, California, where the Lick Observatory was under construction. Of the photos, 147 survived, having been archived in the mountain vault. A century later, they were retrieved and an animation made from them premiered at the International Astronomical Union's general assembly in Sydney in Jul 2003. This is perhaps the most complete surviving record of a historical transit of Venus, dating from the time when Chester Arthur was president of the United States.

Edison's first sound recording

In 1877, Thomas Edison demonstrated the first sound recording, reciting "Mary had a Little Lamb" at his Menlo Park Laboratory, making the first surviving recording of the human voice. John Kruesi built this first practical machine 1-6 Dec, from a sketch given to him by Edison that was made 29 Nov. When Kruesi heard Edison's first words 6 Dec, he exclaimed "Gott in Himmel!" ("God in Heaven"). Edison was granted patent 200,521 on 19 Feb 1878.

Chicago Lake Tunnel

In 1866, the first water supply tunnel for a U.S. city was completed for Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago Lake Tunnel extended 10,587 feet under Lake Michigan to an inlet crib. It was 5 feet in diameter. The city engineer was Ellis Sylvester Chesbrough at the time of construction. Work started on 17 Mar 1864 at a final cost of $380,784. Water was not allowed into the tunnel until 25 Mar 1867. The pumping station with the standpipe tower still stands at the intersection of Michigan Blvd and Chicago Ave., having escaped destruction in the 1871 Chicago fire.

Ophthalmoscope

In 1850, Hermann von Helmholtz (1821-94) announced his invention, the ophthalmoscope, to the Berlin Physical Society. His description “An Eye mirror for the Investigation of the Retina of the Living Eye” was published in Oct 1851. Using his invention he looked through one side of a glass plate while light was reflected into the subject's eye from the other. It revolutionized ophthalmology, enabling a view inside a person’s eye to see the details of the living retina, diagnose eye diseases and prevent blindness. It pioneered endoscopy, making new information available in a way as dramatic as the invention of the telescope or microscope opened new vistas.

U.S. Naval Observatory

In 1830, the U.S. Naval Observatory, one of the oldest scientific agencies in the U.S., was established as the Depot of Charts and Instruments in Washington, D.C. Its primary mission was to care for the U.S. Navy's chronometers, charts and other navigational equipment. The first instrument installed was a 30-inch portable transit.

Transit of Venus

In 1631, the transit of Venus occurred as first predicted by Kepler. He correctly predicted that an ascending node transit of Venus would occur in Dec 1631, but no-one observed it - due to the fact that it occurred after sunset for most of Europe. Kepler himself died in 1630. He not only predicted this particular transit but also worked out that transits of Venus involve a cyclical period of approximately 120 years. When such a transit is observed, Venus appears as a small black circle moving across the face of the Sun. None occurred during the twentieth century, but the next happened on 8 Jun 2004.

Haiti Discovery

In 1942 Christopher Columbus discovers Hati

Thank you.
XYZ

Truly Agree......

It has outperformed any of the latest so called blockbusters released like Om Shanti Om and Sawariya. My friends have already watched it almost 2-3 times, so that should give an Idea about the movie.

The Movie has brought back the Magic in the Love Stories that Hum Tum had created. Imtiaz Ali has created a master piece with Shahid and Kareena's sparkling performances.

This I guess is Kareena's best performances I have ever seen.

Another reason why I liked the movie is that it brought back some of my dreams that had been dormant for a long time :)

As a final Word don’t miss it. I don’t want to explain the story just watch it.

Flirtation

I didn’t know anything about it until recently when a friend of mine called me a flirt. Reasons unspecified.

Does anyone among you know what it means? I am sure you must have sometime or the other knowingly or unknowingly used the word flirt.

I was a little taken aback when I was called that as I never ever (as far as I can remember) flirted with anyone. So I asked her what she meant by that and as to how I was a flirt? (My Principle – Question the obvious :D). She didn’t answer to the question and that’s what I expected to. She instead asked me to do a Google search and find out the answer for the same.

This is what I got. Check out the link below, it’s pretty interesting. Wikipedia is a really cool place to find loads of information, almost anything under the sun.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flirting

So if you are sure that you are not a flirt and want to prove it to the other person just give him/her the above link and ask her how she or he defines you as one.

That’s what I did :-) and the person had no answer to that except change the topic :D.

Boeing 747 - Chicago to Mumbai

Hope you had a great time not reading by Boring Blogs… Well sorry to disappoint you as Bala Blabber is back with a new and not so Exciting Blog titled the Boeing 747.

But before I start, a simple Question?

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word Airline?

Answer is simple … Airhostess :-) … One of the most beautiful living inhabitants in today’s world (well that’s what I think). For gals it would probably be the Captains or the Male Severs in the Group, I just realized that I don’t what the guys are called when they replace the ladies in the Airhostess Section.

Well if you all want to make sure that your thoughts or imaginations turn out to be false then do Travel be Air India, one of India’s most premier airlines which carries N number of passengers around the world.

You can practically call the Air Hostesses as Aunties or there corresponding Male counterparts as Uncles. I had two international trips on the Air Lines and both occasions the same result. I could never see a single young or fresh face in the crowd. The worst part is not that they are Aunties or Uncles, they too can look good at times but it’s their Grump looking faces that turn you off. All the time they look to be carrying a great burden on their heads. When they are serving you it’s like they are doing some great favor to you.

Well I believe that if you start your day with a smile in or if you see somebody else smiling you would have a fantastic day. A Smile in a faces makes a thousand lights come alive. But I guess that’s not what Air India Believes in. You would always see grumpy faces.

Leaving behind the negative aspects the best part with Air India is its Food :-). Compared to other airlines it definitely has something good to eat. Its like” Ma Ka Hat ka Khanna”. Just an expression, don’t go on its literal meaning. No one can beat Ma Ka Hat ka Khanna.

To many whatever I have written on top may be wrong but that’s what I believe and stick to it.

As You Travel Through Life......

I was trying out a quiz today just for fun. The Quiz was to identify the logos or brands of various companies. Check the snap shot below and try and see if you answer a few. As an example the first Logo stands for Yahoo.

I just wondered as to what makes us remember these stuffs. We forget birthdays of our friends but remember extremely minute details of these brands. If I ask my brother about McLaren he would probably write a book on it. So I decided why not write something about it and the first question that came to my mind is that what is a brand and secondly what makes us go and buy stuffs from a particular brand or company For Example you could always hear people say that I always buy electronic equipments from Sony or Cloths from Provogue.

Ever thought why? Well according to me the answer is simple, Trust. Still thinking? Well that definitely goes for my stomach. I always go and eat from a good restaurant that I feel would be clean and Hygienic :-) (“even though it may or may not be”). So that’s something like a brand that Clean and Hygienic defines a particular restaurant. Confused?

Ok let’s get into some History that I have kind of researched out from my electronic resources and should kind of give you an insight as to what a brand is?

There was a time when fences were not available for segregating entities. In those days ranch owners ranch owners branded (probably by names), or marked, their cattle’s so that they could later on identify their herd as their own. Craftsmen or painters too developed a similar practice. They used to mark their creations with some kind of initials, symbols, or some other unique marks to identify their work anywhere. They usually put these marks in a low visibility place on the product. For example you could see Ajay’s Paintings signed as Bala or AB or something else :-).

Soon such high quality crafts and herds became identifiable in consumers’ minds. Customers would actually seek out certain marks because they had associated those marks in their minds with tastier beef, higher quality furniture or some sophisticated artworks.

Heyyyyy that’s Ajay’s Design see the initials below :-). I know I like to blabber about myself :D

So if I as a producer differentiated my product as superior as compared to others in the mind of my consumer, then my brand or you can say Logo represents superiority. So get the Point. You Might say this is marketing, buts it’s not. Marketing in other words brand awareness world make the customer aware of your brand exits but may not buy it at the same time if the customer has trust in your brand he would buy it as it represents superiority to him.

In Todays world branding is much more than just creating a way to identify a product or a company. Branding today is used to create an emotional attachment of consumers to products and companies. Branding creates a feeling of involvement, a sense of higher quality, and an aura of intangible qualities that surround the brand name, mark or symbol.

In other words brand is an unshakable, long term relationship between a company and its customers.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyy Babyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Yoooooooo. I know this sounds very clichéd but its been a long, long, LONG time. However, The Bala Bugle has been brought back to life, ladies and gentlemen. Courtesy: total, utter failure to think of anything else worthwhile to do and thanks to the recent Movies released :).

So marking this great comeback :-) I though of writing about the Movie Hey Baby Directed by Sajid Khan.

Heyyyy Babyyyyyyyy stars Akshay Kumar as Arush, Fardeen Khan as Ali ka AL, Ritesh Deshmukh as Tanmay aka Eddy Teddy and Vidya Balan as Esha. Let me tell you each of them have given complete justice to their roles and have given us a script thats worth to pay for.

Among performances, Akshay stands out among the trio. His comic timing is becoming impeccable by the day and his scenes with Vidya Balan are simply a delight to watch.
Fardeen Khan (Who has put on a lot of weight) gets his funny lines right and Ritesh Deshmukh is brilliant as usual. Vidya Balan looks absolutely gorgeous as usual. However, her role doesn’t have much scope for histrionics. The little baby is very very cute and is a star in making :) . Boman Irani is impressive as usual.

People would compare the movie to "Three Men and A Baby" or 2 some of the regional movies that have come out with the same concept. But that’s all humbug. The Movie has got its own brand of spice that’s worth watching for. On top of it the songs are superb.

I am not going to give the script down here as its better to go and Watch. Reading it won’t be fun.

So Watch and Rock....
Cheers :-)

Partner - Movie Review

The music is good and my fav one is Soni pe Nak de…..a nice masti song and portrayed well on screen. ... The Movie has few weak sections but that can be neglected as the comedy is good

The movie is a good one worth watching once….
