This week, I begin with my renewed obsession with the HBO vampire show True Blood, which now boasts every kind of goblin, sorceress and demon you can imagine. Can we talk about racy and semi-disturbing? Four episodes into season two and we still don’t really know who’s good or bad; we just know their sexual appetites are insatiable. Maybe that’s the point? Don’t get me wrong, Anna Paquin’s tittays are pretty much perfect, but when her boyf, Vampire Bill, chomps on her neck and sullies the bedspread and Ol’ Sookie’s mammaries with hemoglobin…that ain’t sexy. It just makes Ol’ BB a little queasy. And aren’t they all supposed to be different species? At any rate, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart must wish they lived in Louisiana and not Washington.

As the sun finally emerges from the clouds in New York, I spend more time traveling by foot and I can’t help but notice the considerable up tick in the number of man-drawn carriages around town. Carbon light by nature, rickshaws have been the punch line of many a green joke here at Beanstockd, but no amount of eco-friendliness can change the fact that I witnessed a rickshaw jockey peddling uphill fast enough to churn butter and moving backwards. Sections of Park Avenue are steep, man. I don’t know who deserves more pity, the man of burden or the Japanese family of four who thought a peddle-powered cart was a good idea.

Here’s a quicky to get you to read this post: Emma Watson is moving to New York! The Harry Potter star announced a few weeks ago that she’d be attending Columbia University in the fall over Yale, Brown and Harvard. The Columbia part is true. The rest…who really knows.

So a lot of you have written letters asking me for an update on my coffee grind eating pet nephthytis Grey Poupon. Well, here goes. You might remember Grey as the plucky office plant who dressed himself up like a Christmas tree, but to me he’s the spoiled piece of vegetation that needs a manzier. I should really call him Saggy McDrooperson. Look at him all resigned to gravity like an old man with osteoporosis.

Finally, Michael Jackson’s memorial ceremony was filled with notables like Stevie Wonder, Usher and Brooke Shields, but Paris Jackson, MJ’s 11-year old daughter, will leave the most lasting impression of them all. A funeral is a horrible place to have a coming out party, but with her emotional declaration of love for her late father, young Paris single-handedly humanized her dad and brought the world to tears. Pretty moving stuff; she’s gutsy.

Jon and Kate Gosselin may have filed for divorce and potentially given up on their cash cow reality TV show, but it seems they’re doing their best to hold it together for their children. Though Jon’s been spotted house hunting in NYC, he was present at the family’s Wernersville, Pennsylvania home on July 4th. J and K reunited for a family picnic to celebrate Independence Day, making good on their promise to put the kids first.

Said Kate, "I absolutely cannot imagine not spending every single holiday with my kids. I don’t care what it takes. I will be there." Well, it looks like the kids won’t be doing Christmas Eve with Daddy and Christmas Day with Mommy! Wonder if Jon knows his psycho ex is planning on crashing every holiday from here on out. Too bad J.G. is bogged down by mad babies, or we’d recommend he move to Hong Kong, our new favorite green city. Did you know they’re implementing a plastic bag levy of .06 cents? That they’ve been shutting off the lights in skyscrapers? They’ve even extended their indoor smoking ban. Change is coming, people! Jon Gosselin, are you in?

Halle Berry and her sperm donor, Gabriel Aubry, spent some quality time with their adorable daughter Nahla in South Beach this morning. The couple went for a walk while little Nahla, 15 months, stayed entertained by chasing pigeons. Yesterday, the family was spotted splashing and playing in the pool of their Miami hotel too. For all that fun in the sun, Halle needs to have several bathing suits on hand. There are several designers, including Aaron Chang, who are now incorporating eco-friendly materials into their swim suits. Chang has created an eco-friendly swimwear collection, made from polyester yarn that he constructs using recycled soda bottles. Each suit has a common theme of natural elements, including plants, animals and beaches.

Comedians dipping into politics everywhere!

This week Kal Penn (real name Kalpen Modi, which he’ll use) started his first day of work at the White House, Al Franken got sworn in as senator from Minnesota, and Sarah Palin stepped down as Governor of Alaska. American politics has always been populated by charismatic performers, and now we’re glad to see that the witty and clever are joining its ranks and the, uh, others, are delicately stepping out of the spotlight.

Italy has been slacking. The country of golden tans and Cavalli-clad dictators is so hilariously unprepared to host this year’s G-8 summit that fellow G-8 members have threatened to oust it from their elite circle claiming that, ""The G-8 is a club, and clubs have membership dues. Italy has not been paying them.” Eyebrows have arched a bit higher in response to media focus on Minister Berlusconi’s hard partying ways leading up to the conference. This is what it’s like for Italy: It’s like finally getting into that secret society that’s super sweet but sooo Euro your sophomore year and then having them take your tie away junior year for getting it on with a worldly Smith girl in the cigar room during your alumni reunion dinner.

We have high hopes that Italy will pull itself together since this year’s G8 will be a big one: the US will be arriving with a new proactive stance on carbon emissions, having just passed a bill that regulates greenhouse emissions in America. European countries fear that the US is independently brokering a deal with China on its quest for greenhouse gas reduction—an issue that will surely be addressed this Thursday.

Obama wrapped up his trip to Russia, a week-long escapade with uncanny parallels to a week in the life of Carrie Bradshaw. He brunched, got introspective in a florid monologue to his audience, and was snubbed by a Russian - that is, many Russians. The outreach speech in which he asserts that "America is less than perfect", was in fact not aired on very many television or radio stations; further proving that Russians have more important things to do like making art, building oil empires with inadvertent racial slurs for names, and drankin.

The new images for Britney Spears’ Candies’ campaign were released yesterday. The photos show a very cute (and very airbrushed) Britney in a country setting with a pink Candie’s twist. The pictures will be used for the shoe line’s 2009 television, print, online and in-store advertising campaign. Candie’s are exclusively sold at Kohl’s. If you are in the store picking up a pair (because who doesn’t want to be just like Brit-Brit) check out the EarthPan Cookware sets in Kohl’s kitchen section. The new line of pots and pans features SandFlow nonstick coatings which is originated from sand, a renewable resource.

The time has come, the walrus said, to talk of many things…of passing icons and funerals, of families and kings (of pop). That’s right, beanies; Michael Jackson’s funeral takes place today at 8am sharp, with a public ceremony to follow at 10am at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Will those of you on the West Coast be attending? If not, you can follow along – the ceremony, which is set to feature both Jennifer Hudson and Mariah Carey as performers and which will host a variety of celebs, will air on dozens of channels and even in select movie theaters.

You know, ‘cause everyone needs to mourn collectively. The world has been in shock ever since Michael’s sudden death last week, and we think it’s time to pledge to make the world a better place in MJ’s honor. No, we don’t mean by purchasing Neverland or dying our skin (though we’ve considered both…JK). We mean by working together to fight climate change. Did you know that with just a 5°C temperature rise, the human population could be reduced a mere one billion total by the end of the century? It isn’t pretty, people – but as MJ said, we are the world. Let’s make it a good one to live in. Turn off those air conditioners and open those windows. If we can do it, so can you.

Last month a vandalism case was opened in Oklahoma City when photos leaked of Jessica Alba covering legal advertisements (such as those for the United Way) with posters that urged people to save great white sharks. Jess has issued a public apology and no charges have been made, but it doesn’t look like her failed attempt at becoming an activist actress/wannabe Angelina Jolie has gotten her down. Less than a month after her great white debacle, Alba appears to have taken on a different cause, joining Leonardo DiCaprio, Captain Planet, and us! In the July issue of Vogue, Jessica appears in the “Style Ethics” section. Challenges in dealing with the Russian leadership await President Obama during his trip this week. While Dmitri Medvedev as president, holds the highest political position in Russia, many believe former President Vladimir Putin really runs the country. Obama faces an obstacle course in showing each leader respect while negotating with the one actually in power.

A few weeks ago, we speculated that Nick Jonas and Miley Cyrus were once again an item, but Miley’s twitter tells a different story. She tweeted, "I am lovinggg being single life is so carefree!!!". Who’s telling the truth? For what it’s worth, a tweet is worth 140 characters.

Swine Flu Watch 2009: NO ONE IS SAFE! Harry Potter star, Rupert Grint got hit by a mild case while filming the latest installment. Luckily for Hermione, I mean Emma Watson, he’s no longer contagious.

Jon & Kate Plus 8 spend 1 last 4th of July together. The Gosselins had a picnic, picked blueberries and lit sparklers. Don’t get too excited for a reunion though, the divorce is still on.

An eleventh-hour meeting will be held on Tuesday by the Major Economies Forum to discuss carbon emissions. The meeting comes before the G-8 summit, July 8th-10th, and aims to reconcile rich and developing nations’ differences over long-term global warming targets.

With the death of Michael Jackson, resignation of Sarah Palin, and crumbling economy, swine flu just seems so yesterday. So how does a hot topic pandemic work its way back to the top story? Either S.F. has an excellent publicist or Rupert Grint needs to invest in some environmentally friendly hand sanitizer, because the Harry Potter actor has become the first famous figure to be infected with the H1N1 flu. According to his rep, Rupert is feeling better and no longer contagious, but we have a feeling this story only marks the beginning of the media whore of all viruses crawling its way back into the headlines. Be on the lookout this week for swine flu to take an Argentinean mistress or stage a coup in a politically oppressed country. With swine flu set to take over water cooler conversation I’m giving it 48 hours until Heidi and Spencer Pratt announce their diagnoses.
