A virus has attacked my computer and it sent some emails using my account. Some of them was sent to my own blogs using 'post by email' freature, titled 'Please I Need Your Help'. As a result, I got many complains for something I didn't do.

Anyway, I apologize for those who has received those spams and I should tell you I didn't send you email at all. Even I could't log in to my own blog using my gmail account now.

How are you doing today? I am sorry i didn't inform you about my traveling to Africa for a program called "Empowering Youth to Fight Racism, HIV/AIDS, Poverty and Lack of Education, the program is taking place in three major countries in Africa which is Ghana , South Africa and Nigeria . It as been a very sad and bad moment for me, the present condition that i found myself is very hard for me to explain.

I am really stranded in Nigeria because I forgot my little bag in the Taxi where my money, passport, documents and other valuable things were kept on my way to the Hotel am staying, I am facing a hard time here because i have no money on me. I am now owning a hotel bill of $ 1550 and they wanted me to pay the bill soon else they will have to seize my bag and hand me over to the Hotel Management., I need this help from you urgently to help me back home, I need you to help me with the hotel bill and i will also need $1600 to feed and help myself back home so please can you help me with a sum of $3500 to sort out my problems here? I need this help so much and on time because i am in a terrible and tight situation here, I don't even have money to feed myself for a day which means i had been starving so please understand how urgent i needed your help.

Concerts - Beatles At Shea Stadium

In this article we're going to review one of the most famous concerts in rock and roll history, The Beatles performance at Shea Stadium.

The Beatles are arguably the most famous band in rock and roll history. They certainly were the start of the British revolution that spawned many bands with that Brit sound, but none of them sounded quite like the Fab Four.

The Beatles first concert at Shea Stadium in New York set records for the time. The attendance was 55,600 people and the money made was over 57,000 pounds. Not too bad for August 15, 1965. The noise factor at the stadium that day was so loud that John Lennon said it was "louder than God." Lennon had a habit of comparing the Beatles to the almighty, which ultimately got him and the group into a lot of trouble in their early days.

Most people know about the concert date and what was played there, but what few people know is what happened to the Beatles on the way to Shea Stadium. While it was nothing traumatic, it is important to note that in spite of their enormous popularity, they were in total awe of what they were walking into.

On the drive to the stadium, George Harrison was totally in awe of the amount of traffic headed that way. The freeway was a total disaster area. Cars were hardly moving and for a while it looked like the Beatles themselves would be late for their own concert had it not been for the helicopter that took them from Wall Street to the stadium. The view from up above was as if people were trying to escape some sort of national disaster.

They wouldn't allow the Beatles to land in the stadium so they had to land on top of the roof at the World's Fair. From there, it was one hundred yards to the stadium in a Wells Fargo armored truck. Talk about security. On the drive in the truck, which had no windows, to the stadium, insane kids were banging on the outside of the truck and rocking it back and forth. At one point George thought the truck was going to be turned over and they were all going to be torn to pieces. All of this in spite of weeks drawing up plans for how they would get the group to the stadium.

Ironically, the concert, compared to modern times, was very low budget. The amps were Vox Ac-30s. The group was offered to have anything they wanted made for them, but they turned down all offers. They wanted to play with the equipment that they had always used. Consequently, the sound quality was not great. But the experience was one that will probably never be felt by anyone ever again.

For those interested in the music, the highlights of the concert were "A Hard Day's Night", "Help", "I'm Down", "Can't Buy Me Love", "Ticket To Ride", "I Feel Fine", and "Twist And Shout".

The Concert For Bangladesh

The Concert For Bangladesh was held on August 1, 1971, at Madison Square Garden in the greatest city in the world, New York. To the youth of the time it was just another concert. But as history goes, it may very well go down as one of the greatest events in mankind's.

The brains behind the concert was ex Beatle, George Harrison, who had become very much into causes after the group split up. In this case, the cause was the people of Bangladesh, who were literally starving to death. The concert was put on in the hopes of bringing some hope to a dying region of the world.

Bangladesh had a troubled history. The events leading up to this concert are as follows.

In 1969 General Yahya Khan assumed power in Pakistan. His goal was to put an end to end the dictatorship and start a democracy. In December of the following year the League of Bangladesh won a huge victory. It became the largest party in Pakistan. But Kahn was unwilling to allow a power shift to Bangladesh. So the results of the election were ignored and a reign of terror was unleashed in Bangladesh to eliminate the opposition to Kahn. It is estimated that over 1 million people were murdered. This was the greatest atrocity since Hitler and the Jews. The ones who escaped to India suffered terrible starvation, among other things. Thus, the reason for the concert.

It all started with a call that George Harrison made to Ringo Starr, another ex Beatle. He then made another call to Leon Russell. Both agreed to come to the East Coast for the concert. After those calls, others were made to business managers, the Garden itself and everyone and anyone Harrison could think of to be of assistance.

The list of performers were as long as King Kong's right arm. At the top of the list was Eric Clapton, who had played with George Harrison while with the Beatles on tunes like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," which was played at the concert itself.

Another friend of Harrison's, Billy Preston, who played on the Beatle's big hit "Get Back" was also there. At the concert itself Preston played "That's The Way God Planned It."

A group that was up and coming at the time, Badfinger, was also in attendance. They were supposed to be the next Beatles, actually founded by the Beatles and also on Apple Records. At the concert Badfinger served as a backing band and didn't play any of their original material.

Rounding out the all star cast was the great Bob Dylan, who sang many tunes including his signature tune "Blowin' In The Wind."

The Concert for Bangladesh was not just a concert. It was an event. One that will never be forgotten and one that hopefully will never come again.

Skandal Penjiplakan Lagu "My Sweet Lord"

George Harrison, gitaris The Beatles, pernah diajukan ke pengadilan karena dituduh mencontek hit dia yang paling terkenal, My Sweet Lord, dari singel yang dirilis tahun 1962 di Amerika Serikat, He's So Fine. "Kalau kasus ini ditulis, ia akan menjadi sebuah buku yang tebal," kata Harrison jengkel.

Ceritanya berawal tahun 1962 tatkala He's So Fine, sebuah komposisi yang ditulis Ronald Mack, direkam untuk trio The Chiffons. Secara hukum lagu ini dimiliki oleh by Bright Tunes Music Corporation. Lagu ini menjadi hit nomor satu di AS dan bertengger di Billboard selama lima pekan.

Di Inggris lagu ini pernah mencapai urutan ke-12 tangga lagu per 1 Juni 1963. Di saat yang sama sebuah lagu The Beatles, From Me to You, bertengger di urutan pertama. Harrison kelak mengakui ia cukup familiar dengan lagu He's So Fine tersebut.

Selama tujuh tahun berikutnya He's So Fine tak lebih dari sebuah lagu usang, sementara Harrison mengakhiri kebersamaannya dengan The Beatles untuk memulai karier sebagai artis solo tahun 1970. Bulan Desember 1969 ia sedang tur bersama bandnya, Delaney and Bonnie and Friends di Copenhagen, Denmark. Di pengadilan ia mengatakan, sekitar saat itulah benih My Sweet Lord lahir. Seperti biasa ia bermain-main dengan gitar pada saat senggang dan dari mulutnya keluar kata-kata "hallelujah" dan "hare krishna". Lalu beberapa personel Delaney ikut nimbrung dan Harrison memulai proses penulisan lirik.

Ketika ia kembali ke London (Inggris), salah seorang anggota Delaney, Billy Preston (kibor), sedang mengerjakan sebuah album. Harrison, yang ikut mengawali proses produksinya, menyelesaikan My Sweet Lord menjadi sebuah versi yang sudah jadi. Dan sekalipun banyak artis yang ikut menyumbang saran, Harrison-lah yang menjadi satu-satunya penulis lagu itu.

Akhirnya album itu selesai dan salah satu lagunya adalah My Sweet Lord yang dinyanyikan Preston. Seperti biasa "lead sheet" yang berisikan melodi, lirik, dan harmoni My Sweet Lord dikirimkan ke AS untuk dimintakan hak kopinya. Bukan My Sweet Lord versi Preston itu yang menjadi disengketakan di pengadilan selama dua dekade itu, namun versi yang termuat dalam album All Things Must Pass yang juga dirilis sebagai singel pada 28 November 1970 di AS.

Tanggal 10 Februari 1971 Bright Tunes secara resmi menuntut Harrison dan dua perusahaan miliknya (Harrisongs Music Ltd di AS dan Harrisongs Music Inc di Inggris), Apple Records, BMI, serta Hansen Publications. Manajer Harrison, Allen Klein, langsung menemui pemilik Bright Tunes, Seymour Barash, untuk berunding.

Barang bukti motif

Usulan Klein untuk berdamai di luar pengadilan ditolak Barash. Klein lalu menyewa jasa seorang musikolog, Harold Barlow, untuk memberikan kesaksian yang intinya menyebutkan, tuntutan Bright Tunes tak berdasar. Celakanya, di tengah proses pengadilan itu Klein dipecat sebagai manajer dan Brigh Tunes berganti pemilik.

Sebelum pengadilan dimulai beberapa pekan lagi, pada Januari 1976, Harrison menawarkan uang damai 148.000 dollar AS. Bright Tunes menolak dan menuntut 75 persen dari royalti di seluruh dunia dan hak kepemilikan atas My Sweet Lord. Berhubung kedua pihak berkeras proses pengadilan pun dimulai lagi 23-25 Februari 1976.

Setelah sejumlah kesaksian dari para ahli didengar dan barang-barang bukti diperiksa satu per satu, maka hakim menjatuhkan vonis bahwa Harrison memang menjiplak He's So Fine. Hakim berpegang pada barang bukti yang berupa sekuens "motif A" dari lagu itu yang terdiri dari empat repetisi notasi sol-mi-re, "motif B" (sol-la-do-la-do), dan kombinasi (grace note) di antara kedua motif itu (sol-la-do-la-re-do).

Saksi-saksi ahli berhasil menunjukkan bahwa motif-motif itu merupakan pola yang sangat tidak biasa. Dan komposisi My Sweet Lord terbukti paling tidak menggunakan motif A sebanyak empat kali dan motif B tiga kali. Hakim mengatakan, sekalipun terdapat perbedaan kecil, namun "kedua lagu secara jelas sangat identik." Hakim menambahkan, Harrison bisa saja tak menyadari ia melakukan pencontekan, tetapi itu bukanlah alasan yang legalistis.

Pengadilan menjatuhkan denda dari empat sumber. Pertama dari pelanggaran terhadap "royalti mekanikal" (uang yang dibayarkan label kepada penerbit lagu), royalti penampilan, penjualan, dan dari keuntungan yang diperoleh Apple Records. Hitung punya hitung Harrison dan tertuduh-tertuduh lainnya mesti membayar ke Bright Tunes denda kerugian sekitar 2,1 juta dollar AS ditambah sekitar 1,5 juta dollar AS lainnya untuk denda plagiat atas He's So Fine.

Namun, para tertuduh naik banding dan selama bertahun-tahun kasus ini tak kunjung selesai. Tahun 1991 sidang kasus ini kembali diadakan dan hukuman denda diputuskan mencapai 587.000 dollar AS. Giliran Bright Tunes yang naik banding dan pada April 1993 kedua pihak yang bersengketa menyepakati denda yang tak diumumkan kepada publik. (bas/Kompas 19/01/07)

Beatles First Radio Interview

According to reknown Beatles author Mark Lewisohn, this is the Beatles' first-ever radio interview! Lewisohn accurately describes it as rare and fascinating, not just for historical importance, but also because it's wonderfully intriguing.

At the time of this 1962 interview, the Beatles are still making regular visits to Hamburg, and Ringo Starr is so new to the group that he's still keeping track of how long he's been a Beatle by number of weeks!! This interview takes place following the release of their first single 'Love Me Do,' and BEFORE the final version of 'Please Please Me' had been arrived at. At the time of this interview they have not yet had a 'number one' song. It is a very rare glimpse of the early Beatles-- their first radio interview--recorded on October 28th, 1962 at Hulme Hall in Port Sunlight, on the Wirral in England.

This new group of youngsters is interviewed by Monty Lister, with additional questions from Malcolm Threadgill and Peter Smethurst.

MONTY: It's a very great pleasure for us this evening to say hello to an up-and-coming Merseyside group, The Beatles. I know their names, and I'm going to try and put faces to them. Now, you're John Lennon, aren't you?"

JOHN: "Yes, that's right."

MONTY: "What do you do in the group, John?"

JOHN: "I play harmonica, rhythm guitar, and vocal. That's what they call it."

MONTY: "Then, there's Paul McCartney. That's you?"

PAUL: "Yeah, that's me. Yeah."

MONTY: "And what do you do?"

PAUL: "Play bass guitar and uhh, sing? ...I think! That's what they say."

MONTY: "That's quite apart from being vocal?"

PAUL: "Well... yes, yes."

MONTY: "Then there's George Harrison."

GEORGE: "How d'you do."

MONTY: "How d'you do. What's your job?"

GEORGE: "Uhh, lead guitar and sort of singing."

MONTY: "By playing lead guitar does that mean that you're sort of leader of the group or are you...?"

GEORGE: "No, no. Just... Well you see, the other guitar is the rhythm. Ching, ching, ching, you see."

PAUL: "He's solo guitar, you see. John is in fact the leader of the group."

MONTY: "And over in the background, here, and also in the background of the group making alot of noise is Ringo Starr."

RINGO: "Hello."

MONTY: "You're new to the group, aren't you Ringo?"

RINGO: "Yes, umm, nine weeks now."

MONTY: "Were you in on the act when the recording was made of 'Love Me Do'?"

RINGO: "Yes, I'm on the record. I'm on the disc."

(the group giggles)

RINGO: (comic voice) "It's down on record, you know?"

MONTY: "Now, umm..."

RINGO: "I'm the drummer!"

(laughter)

MONTY: "What's that offensive weapon you've got there? Those are your drumsticks?"

RINGO: "Well, it's umm... just a pair of sticks I found. I just bought 'em, you know, 'cuz we're going away."

MONTY: "When you say you're going away, that leads us on to another question now. Where are you going?"

RINGO: "Germany. Hamburg. For two weeks."

MONTY: "You have standing and great engagements over there, haven't you?"

RINGO: "Well, the boys have been there quite alot, you know. And I've been there with other groups, but this is the first time I've been there with the Beatles."

MONTY: "Paul, tell us. How do you get in on the act in Germany?"

PAUL: "Well, it was all through an old agent."

(laughter)

PAUL: (chuckles) "We first went there for a fella who used to manage us, and Mr. Allan Williams of the Jacaranda Club in Liverpool. And he found the engagements so we sort of went there, and then went under our own..."

JOHN: "Steam."

PAUL: "Steam... (laughs)

JOHN: "...as they say."

PAUL: "As they say, afterwards, you know. And we've just been going backwards and forwards and backwards and forwards."

MONTY: (surprised) "You're not busy at all?"

PAUL: "Well yes, actually. Yes. It's been left-leg in all the war."

(laughter)

MONTY: "George, were you brought up in Liverpool?"

GEORGE: "Yes. So far, yes."

MONTY: "Whereabouts?"

GEORGE: "Well, born in Wavertree, and bred in Wavertree and Speke-- where the airplanes are, you know."

MONTY: "Are you all 'Liverpool types,' then?"

RINGO: "Yes."

JOHN: "Uhh... types, yes."

PAUL: "Oh yeah."

RINGO: "Liverpool-typed Paul, there."

MONTY: "Now, I'm told that you were actually in the same form as young Ron Wycherley..."

RINGO: "Ronald. Yes."

MONTY: "...now Billy Fury."

RINGO: "In Saint Sylus."

MONTY: "In which?"

RINGO: "Saint Sylus."

JOHN: "Really?"

RINGO: "It wasn't Dingle Bay like you said in the Musical Express."

PAUL: "No, that was wrong. Saint Sylus school."

MONTY: "Now I'd like to introduce a young disc jockey. His name is Malcolm Threadgill, he's 16-years old, and I'm sure he'd like to ask some questions from the teenage point of view."

MALCOLM: "I understand you've made other recordings before on a German label."

PAUL: "Yeah."

MALCOLM: "What ones were they?"

PAUL: "Well, we didn't make... First of all we made a recording with a fella called Tony Sheridan. We were working in a club called 'The Top Ten Club' in Hamburg. And we made a recording with him called, 'My Bonnie,' which got to number five in the German Hit Parade."

JOHN: "Ach tung!"

PAUL: (giggles) "But it didn't do a thing over here, you know. It wasn't a very good record, but the Germans must've liked it a bit. And we did an instrumental which was released in France on an EP of Tony Sheridan's, which George and John wrote themselves. That wasn't released here. It got one copy. That's all, you know. It didn't do anything."

MALCOLM: "You composed 'P.S. I Love You' and 'Love Me Do' yourself, didn't you? Who does the composing between you?"

PAUL: "Well, it's John and I. We write the songs between us. It's, you know... We've sort of signed contracts and things to say, that now if we..."

JOHN: "It's equal shares."

PAUL: "Yeah, equal shares and royalties and things, so that really we just both write most of the stuff. George did write this instrumental, as we say. But mainly it's John and I. We've written over about a hundred songs but we don't use half of them, you know. We just happened to sort of rearrange 'Love Me Do' and played it to the recording people, and 'P.S. I Love You,' and uhh, they seemed to quite like it. So that's what we recorded."

MALCOLM: "Is there anymore of your own compositions you intend to record?"

JOHN: "Well, we did record another song of our own when we were down there, but it wasn't finished enough. So, you know, we'll take it back next time and see how they like it then."

(long pause)

JOHN: (jokingly) "Well... that's all from MY end!"

(laughter)

MONTY: "I would like to just ask you-- and we're recording this at Hume Hall, Port Sunlight-- Did any of you come over to this side before you became famous, as it were? Do you know this district?"

PAUL: "Well, we played here, uhh... I don't know what you mean by famous, you know.

(laughter)

PAUL: "If being famous is being in the Hit Parade, we've been over here-- we were here about two months ago. Been here twice, haven't we?"

JOHN: "I've got relations here. Rockferry."

MONTY: "Have you?"

JOHN: "Yes. Oh, all sides of the water, you know."

PAUL: "Yeah, I've got a relation in Clorton Village-- Upton Road."

RINGO: (jokingly) "I've got a friend in Birkenhead!"

(laughter)

MONTY: "I wish I had."

GEORGE: (jokingly) "I know a man in Chester!"

(laughter)

MONTY: "Now, that's a very dangerous thing to say. There's a mental home there, mate. Peter Smethurst is here as well, and he looks like he is bursting with a question."

PETER: "There is just one question I'd like to ask. I'm sure it's the question everyone's asking. I'd like your impressions on your first appearence on television."

PAUL: "Well, strangely enough, we thought we were gonna be dead nervous. And everyone said, 'You suddenly, when you see the cameras, you realize that there are two million people watching,' because there were two million watching that 'People And Places' that we did... we heard afterwards. But, strangely enough, it didn't come to us. We didn't think at all about that. And it was much easier doing the television than it was doing the (live musical performance) radio. It's still nerve-wracking, but it was a bit easier than doing radio because there was a full audience for the radio broadcast."

MONTY: "Do you find it nerve-wracking doing this now?"

(laughter)

PAUL: (jokingly) "Yeah, yeah."

MONTY: "Over at Cleaver Hospital, a certain record on Parlophone-- the top side has been requested. So perhaps the Beatles themselves would like to tell them what it's going to be."

PAUL: "Yeah. Well, I think it's gonna be 'Love Me Do.'"

JOHN: "Parlophone R4949."

(laughter)

PAUL: "'Love Me Do.'"

MONTY: "And I'm sure, for them, the answer is P.S. I love you!"

PAUL: "Yeah."
