This is what I call 'breakfast'.

A non-vegan breakfast can also be very delicious. I proved it with this one. It’s a melted chocolate egg white omelette, but you can also make it for lunch with some vegetables for example. The proteins of the egg white make you feel stuffed and they are perfect before you start your workout.

What do you need:

2 eggs (separate egg yolk from egg white)

A little bit of coconut milk

1 smashed banana

1 tsp of cinnamon

1 piece of dark chocolate (min. 90%)

1 tsp of coconut oil

For topping:

1 tbsp of shredded coconut

1 tsp of flax seeds

1 tsp of chia seeds

How to:

Crack the eggs into a bowl and separate the yolk from the white
Heat a pan over medium low heat and melt the coconut oil
Add the coconut milk, cinnamon and the banana to the eggs. Then whisk. Like crazy
When the coconut oil is hot (a drop of water would hiss), pour the mixture in
Let the eggs cook for a minute
Push one edge of the egg into the centre and tilt the pan to let the liquid parts flow underneath. Repeat this with the other edges
Flip the omelette now
Put the piece of dark chocolate on the left edge of the omelette and lift the right edge over. The chocolate will melt now (oh my!)
Put the omelette in a bowl or on a plate and top with the topping-ingredients
When you cut the omelette, the melted dark chocolate will flow out. Something with food and happiness. Foodporn. Everything

Almost Sushi.

Are you a sushi-lover? But no time for the rolling thing? Or you just can’t? We have created an awesome solution: it’s called ‘Almost sushi’ and it’s delicious. You can make a lot, which means that you can have it the next day for lunch. Or even for breakfast, maybe. Serve it cold for summer days with a ginger beer or put it on the table as a side dish for your guests. It’s a favourite one!

Ingredients (3 persons)

1.5 cup brown rice

1 sweet potato

Nori flakes

½ cucumber in cubes

1 avocado in cubes

1 big carrot in cubes

Handful of broccoli

Small hand of radish sprouts to top

Dressing:

2 tbsp of tahin

2 tbsp of soy sauce (glutenfree)

1 tbsp of sesame oil

1 tbsp of agave syrup

3 tbsp of sesame seeds (black)

1.5 tbsp of rice vinegar

Cook the rice according to the instructions and add the sweet potato later on until it’s soft.

Marinate the cucumber, avocado and carrot in the dressing.

Blanch the broccoli and cover it with ice cold water afterwards.

Rinse the rice and potato and add the marinated veggies.

Stir everything well and top it with some sprouts.

Wandering around the Tuileries in Paris is something I would like to everyday. Either if it's running or just walking, being there in one of the most beautiful spots of Paris, comes close to perfection. When reading Garance Doré's 'Frenchism' article I realized that real Parisian women don't carry as much as clothes with them as I took to Paris. Without a cigarette between my lips (everybody smokes in Paris), a little bit of name dropping and feeding myself with baguettes and croissants after these pictures were taken, I have to admit that this coat I'm wearing is unbelievably french in my eyes. At least for the weekends there, in the sun, with a glass of wine whilst having lunch.

culinary hotspot: Restaurant Frenchie

A street that you would probably not notice and skip altogether is Rue du Nil, yet this is where Gregory Marchand’s food empire is located: Restaurant Frenchie, wine bar Frenchie and Frenchie To Go. When you have closer look the street has something quite happy and pleasant about it, not to even get started about the food yet. Marchand, is not just another name in Foodie land. The fact that Jamie Oliver gave him the name Frenchie and that Greg led the Gramercy Tavern kitchen should just about say enough.

Whilst we wait in the modest line outside, our reservations are called. “ Madame Duwief?” I smilingly nod and walk into the restaurant. The small space with brick walls, wooden beams and white tablecloths gives us a pleasant impression. It makes me think of an authentic tapas bar, which you know is always full (make reservations for Frenchie at least two months in advance) and the courses are simply great. Only here the foundation is French and the menu is based on seasonal products. There is only one menu that is made up of 3 courses, which are made up of two dishes.

We start off with champagne (cause that’s what the French do) we choose wine and order. The wine bar across the street is filling up and I then realize that Frenchie truly is great! The waiters are very professional, the food is delicieux ( you have to try the bred and butter pudding) and Frenchie’s motto ‘have a good time’ has been achieved. Merci Marchand, you’ve given Paris yet another hotspot!

A lot of weekend days appear into my blog. Probably I like them more then any other day. Since a couple of weeks a new place to be showed up near to my house. It's called 'Zondag' which means 'sunday'. They offer breakfast and lunch. Ideal to grab a cup of coffee in the early mornings. Owner Daniëlle has different lunch places, but I have to admit that this one could be the best one. There is a special corner for kids, a lot of magazines, delicious coffee and tea and a perfect couch to sit on. So I say: go go go there!

Gisteren maakte het Voedingscentrum bekend dat superfoods geen wondermiddelen zijn. Volgens woordvoeder Patricia Schutte bestaan er namelijk geen superfoods. "De geclaimde gezondheidseffecten van superfoods zijn onvoldoende wetenschappelijk onderbouwd. Bovendien kan niet één voedingsmiddel alle belangrijke voedingstoffen leveren die het lichaam nodig heeft. Als je gezond wilt eten is variatie het toverwoord. De beste manier om alle verschillende voedingsstoffen binnen te krijgen die je nodig hebt, is om te eten volgens de Schijf van Vijf en volop te variëren met groente en fruit.”

Oeps, daar gaat mijn gezondheidsroutine op de vroege morgen met macapoeder en gojiberries. Natuurlijk is een gevarieerd eetpatroon belangrijk, maar ik betwijfel of de mensen die superfoods eten en een grote interesse in gezondheid hebben, enkel en alleen maar leven op raw cacao powder en hennepzaden. Wat denk jij?

Yesterday The Netherlands Nutrition Centre Foundation announced that super foods are not as healthy as we think. According to Patricia Schutte (representative) they don't exist. "The effects of super foods are insufficiently underpinned. One type of food doesn't give the body the right amount of nutrients. If you want to eat healthy, variation is the most important thing. Eat according to the 'Schijf van Vijf' in combination with tons of fruits and vegetables".

Whoops... There goes my morning health routine with macapowder and gojiberries. Of course a varied diet is important, but I don't think that people like me, having a huge interest in healthy and super foods, just eating raw cacao powder and hemp seeds. What do you think?

turnips for Isabel.

I've seen them for a while, laying next to the parsnips without any idea of what they actually are. Turnips: 'is a root vegetable commonly grown in temperate climates worldwide for its white, bulbous taproot.' What to do with it? Either I could cook them or stew them. What should be the difference? What would they taste like? I decided to cook them and make a meal for Isabel. The taste is absolutely soft and slightly sweet. And super healthy too. You can also use it as a side dish, fried in coconut oil with some herbs. I made it a main course, mashed, with some cold pressed olive oil, rosemary, thyme and tarragon. Cut the turnips in cubes and cook them for like 6 minutes. I was really happy she liked it as much as I did. A new recipe for her cookbook.

Wow! Fashionweek has showed again some astonishing runways. But wait. Iris van Herpen's fall14 show, titled 'Biopiracy' was in my eyes the most wondrous one. Three models (including the beautiful Soo Joo Park) filled the runway center, suspended in giant Ziploc bags. Okay, we saw the breathing tubes, but it felt a little uncomfortable. The collection was a commentary on the staggering process in decoding the human being. As well the consequences of scientifically developments of what it means to be human. Futuristic design, synthetic fabrics and 7-inch United Nude shoes showed the love-hate relationship we have about technology.

quinoa pancakes.

Look into your kitchen and you'll be amazed with how many ingredients pancakes can be created. Now this: pancakes made out of quinoa and rice flakes.

Soak overnight 1 cup of quinoa + 1 cup of rice flakes in filtered water

Rinse and add some coconut milk until it's a heavy pancake batter

Cut 1 apple in cubes

Cook the apple for 4 minutes

Add the apple to the batter

Add a tsp of cinnamon + a pinch of salt

Heat coconut oil in a hot pan and low the heat

Scoop the battle onto the griddle (use 1/4 cup for each pancake)

Brown on both sides and serve with a little bit of maple syrup

Do you know that feeling, that you're kinda hungry at 4 'o clock? You had lunch at 1 and diner at 7. So what to do in between? In my case 'eating something', is eating a second lunch. No. Let's have some juice. Beetroot and sauerkraut. Sounds… Nice? At least it tastes awesome! The sweetness from the beetroot together with the sauerkraut-sourness is really tasty. Do you know the health benefits of sauerkraut juice btw? It's rich in natural lactic acid which encourages the growth of all the good bacterias and provides loads of vitamin C. A big reason to drink this cocktail.

Somehow, I would like to have the sundays relaxed. Is it because it's such an 'old tradition' or just because I want to have at least one morning to start without being in a hurry? And since I have been experiencing a whole new rhythm, sleeping late and taking it easy are over and done. More time to make nice breakfasts, dinners and more time to spend in my wardrobe. This morning I felt like making summer type pancakes. Good ones. Thick ones, without being unhealthy. It's possible, simple and delicious. Happy sunday to y'all! xo florine

2 cups of buckwheat flour

3 eggs

1 banana

2 cups of rice milk

2 tsp of cinnamon

Pinch of salt

2 tsp of coconut oil

Almond butter

Organic strawberry jelly

Mix well all ingredients in a large bowl. Make sure the mixture is not too thin, because you would like to make 'American' pancakes. Heat the oil in a hot pan, pour 1/3 cup batter onto the preheated pan. Flip it with a spatula when the pancake begins to look 'dry'. Cook 1 minute longer. Serve warm with strawberry jelly and almond butter. SO good.

What did you do today? I went to this wonderful cool place called Hills & Mills in Delft. A true hotspot with good and pure food. Owned by the Kazmi family and inspired by the Himalaya. Their website is amazing, so the food and environment is. We (my pregnant friend and I) got a warm welcome by Sherryl (daughter in law) and went for a 'higher tea'. Two plates full of sandwiches, raw chocolate pies, fruit salads and delicious tea. It was all 'pregnant proof'. Isabel 'took' two sandwiches with hummus and a small fruit salad. Everything was pure, tasteful and visually attractive. The first thing we both said was: we're gonna eat it all. And we did. Sherryl asked us if everything was okay. 'Would you like something else?' 'No we're fine. Wait! Just another piece of chocolate pie maybe. I mean, this pie is… LOVELY!' Kinfolk has already written about it and this place is definitely worth a visit. Yes. You should go there to experience it yourself.

Yum! It's a fact… These muffins are delicious! Top it with some really dark chocolate and your in between snack is ready. Small bites with big taste. What do we need for it? (12 muffins)

Wet ingredients

2 cups of mixed nuts

12 dates

1 cup of mixed seeds

1 cup of oat flakes

6 raw cacao beans

1 banana

3 tbsp of agave syrup

2 tbsp of peanut butter

Dry ingredients

2 cups of buckwheat flour

1 cup of chestnut flour

1/2 cup of coconut shred

2 tsp of cinnamon

1 dark chocolate bar (I used one with 71% cacao)

Method

Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Put the wet ingredients in a large bowl and let them soak in filtered water for like 2 hours. Rinse afterwards. Mix everything in a food processor until it's finely chopped. It's nice when the structure is still crunchy. Do not over-process.

Stir the dry ingredients and pour over the wet ingredients. Stirl until well combined. If the dough it's too dry, add some water.

Spread the batter into muffin tins lined with paper liners.

Place in the oven for like 30 minutes until top looks crispy.

Melt the chocolate au bain marie and pour over the muffins when they are ready. Let them chill until the chocolate becomes hard. Enjoy!

How do you do your groceries? Once a week? Every day? Honestly, I don’t have the time to do it every day. But once every three days is perfect! It stays fresh and when you buy different kind of seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs, it’s easy peasy to make every day a healthy nice meal.

Yesterday it was quite a busy day and my body was craving some veggies. And something sweet and fresh... Applesauce! Really, applesauce goes with everything. Well, at least with this dish. While browsing the kitchen, a couple of parsnips, sweet potatoes and red onions had created my dinner inspiration already. Simple, fast and delicious! Especially with the semi sour vinaigrette, the soft sweetness of the applesauce and the crispy roots. Enjoy!

For two persons

2 parsnips

1 sweet potato

1 red onion

Pinch of seasalt

Pinch of white pepper

2 tbsp of olive oil

Vinaigrette

1 tbsp of tahin

1 tbsp of apple vinegar

On the side

3 or 4 or 5 tbsp of applesauce (just pure with some cinnamon, optional sweetened)

Recipe

Preheat the oven at 180 °C. Cut the parsnips and potato in cubes, slice the onion in half moons and put everything together in an oven dish. Season with the olive oil, pepper and salt. Put the dish in the oven for like 25 – 30 minutes. In the meantime you can make the vinaigrette. Mix it up all together et voilà.

For the rest

Today I'll cook some quinoa next to it, for lunch. Healthy cooking makes me feel awesomely happy, my energy level is much higher and a lot of things are 'kiddy proof'.

Yay! We were invited to the Filippa K party in Stockholm. Awesome, since Filippa herself was there as well. Since we were stuffed with lobster, coquilles and fresh oysters. Since we drank a lot of champagne and danced on the tables after dark. Filippa is such a nice woman and it's incredibly amazing to see all her employees wearing her outfits. And then… The dress code: bal masque went together with black and white. Recently I bought a really nice sleeveless black dress (Filippa K) and I wanted to combine this one with white shoes and a white mask. Isabel's aunt told me the other day, that she'd seen a pair of patent leather Dr. Martens for kids. In black:). I looked them up right away and also found the perfect white ones for myself: Serena fake fur lined. Perfect with the dress, thick tights (100 den) and my white cat mask. Oh and guess, what Santa slipped under the tree? The little black ones. And the Stella McCartney Corinne Loafer with the tortoise heel. But that's a next story. XO f.

INTERVIEW WITH LUISE FROM THE GREEN KITCHEN.

It's been a long time ago, but a lot of good new awesome things are going on. I'm also writing now for two amazing blogs: Citymom and Balanzs. It's about 'being a mom', lifestyle, interior and fashion. Four things I adore. Anywayz, back to business. Christmas is around and tomorrow I'll have my first christmas diner. What to wear? I was thinking actually about my electric blue silk Acne dress with some black high heels, thick tights, oversized black blazer with rolled up sleeves and a black clutch with wooden closure. It's kind of chic but also cool I think. And about all these diners: love the traditional courses but after reading my latest cookbook The Green Kitchen, I thought: how nice if we make a christmas diner this year inspired by that book. Unfortunately, my friends weren't that enthusiastic;). But at least Luise and David are so good in what they are doing and such a source of inspiration, I had to ask them a couple of questions. BABY. PIZZA. TIME.

Sometimes, you don’t know what to eat. It could be a real challenge every day. And when you're in a hurry (I am actually, because I have to pack my suitcase for the Filippa K 20 years party in Stockholm tomorrow!!!), you'll need some comfy food. Something quick, but healthy. I try not to cook two different meals. That’s ridiculous. No, Isabel should eat what we eat but without a lot of herbs and salt. And what do adults and children like both? Yessss pizza. But then a healthy alternative, made out of cauliflower. Can I have your attention please?

For 4 persons + 1 baby (kids can have the ‘grown up’ one)

1 cauliflower

3 eggs

1 cup of buckwheat flour

Pinch of seasalt

1 tsp of thyme

1 big bag of fresh spinach

Some olive oil

1 garlic glove (I would make the baby pizza first, because the garlic glove you can add later)

A handful of sunflowerseeds and

2 tomatoes, cut into cubes or slices

1 zucchini, in strips

Black olives

250 gr of feta cheese

Preheat the oven on 190 °C. Put the cauliflower and thyme in a foodprocessor till it’s a kind ‘cauliflowerflour’. Poor in a bowl with 3 eggs and the buckwheat flour. Whip up everything.

Cover a baking sheet with bakery paper and spread out the cauliflower mix in two pizza’s: one big one and one small one. Put it in the oven for like 20 minutes and ‘prebake’ the cauliflower crust.

Put the spinach, seeds and olive oil in the foodprocessor and make your own pesto. I call this ‘baby pesto’, because there’s no garlic in it. After you’ve made this, you can add a garlic glove for your own pizza.

Take out the baking sheet and poor the different pesto’s on the different crusts. Cover with zucchini, tomatoes, olives and feta and put the sheet in the oven back again for like 15 minutes. I’ll bet you would make this at least once a week. It’s delicious. Really.

HIP HOPPER.

My good friend M (proud mother of two) and I were having a coffee this morning in a cool place called Hopper in Rotterdam. This place has an area upstairs especially for kids and since her little blue eyed son and Isabel were joining us, it was the perfect spot to visit. Hopper, what can I say? Super 'hip' and stylish people come over. Not like The Hague or Amsterdam. No. It's different. Cool creative people with a mission. I like these kind of environments though. Journalists, artists, stylists, photographers. They all have a coffee at Hopper. But I have to admit I'm not sure if these people are so enthusiastic about the upper part. Is it because of the kids? Or they'd rather sit downstairs because the wifi-connection is better? M and I were laughing about it. Here we sit with two kids, two soy cappuccinos and two messy hairdos. Upstairs everything is duplicated. Downstairs, the individual life finds her way.

Hi there! Simple and comfortable. Two words I felt like yesterday. The knits of Humanoid feel like heaven. The quality is good and it ain't itchy at all. Perfect. I went for the easy going look. Oh and not to forget the wedges: they add a feminine touch, because of the height, but oh my! Just like my Nike's.

SPENDING SUNDAYS @ EYE AMSTERDAM

Hi all! What did you do on your lazy sunday? It felt like a great day for visiting a museum. I really wanted to discover the Eye Museum in Amsterdam. Everything is related to film. The museum, designed by Delugan Meissl Associated Architects, is in one word: perfection. The view on the river IJ, the dark windows which give a really special feeling and the nice restaurant where you can drink a coffee or eat some lentil soup. Remarkable design and Isabel seemed quite impressed by the high ceilings. She looked happy. I was happy. We were happy. And what about my museum outfit? Something comfy and elegant at the same time. I went for my long nude Filippa K coat with a black merino roller neck, a super stretch denim where I rolled the edges and my new black suede wedges. Enjoy your sunday! XO F

So today I was in the mood for some baking. I mean some serious baking. I love cooking, I'm interested in food but my baking skills are not that good. Not yet. And before Isabel was there, I visualized us making apple pies and sticky toffee cakes on sunday mornings. Isabel stands on a stool with some dough in her blonde messy hair while something on my face is itching as a result of which I have to use my underarm for touching it. See! I had to practice first and oh mon dieu! The result of this apple crumble pie was good. I call it A-pple-mazing.

2 cups of chestnut flour

1 cup of almond flour

1 cup of shredded coconut
150 gr of almond flakes

125 melted coconut oil (or butter)

Cinnamon powder

2 tbsp of maple syrup

6 apples (I used Elstar)

250 gr of mixed nuts with raisins

Squeeze of lemon

Caviar of 1 vanilla pod

Preheat the oven on 160 °C
Cut the apples in small cubes, put them in a casserole with a little bit of water and a squeeze of lemon, cover with a lid and cook them for like 10 minutes until softened
Mix all the other ingredients for the crumble and add the coconut oil
Put the apple cubes in a dish and divide the mixed nuts with raisins on top
Add some lemon and cinnamon and cover it with the crumble
Put the dish in the oven for like 30 minutes
