Who's up for some bold, breathtaking color? One of this fall's hottest makeup trends is the vivid red lip. I'm personally jazzed about this particular trend, as there's something so timeless and expressive about red lipstick.

From the runway to the red carpet to the everyday woman, bold red lips are a fashion statement in and of themselves. What's more, I've discovered red lipstick also has the power to change a mood and provide a big boost of confidence. When I'm feeling so-so, I simply swipe on a dramatic red color and, voila, I'm ready to tackle the world (or at least my endless list of errands and five loads of laundry)…

Bring on the shades of scarlet, crimson, and coral. Here are a few tips to ensure your red lips are runway-ready:

Tip #1 First, get over your fear of red lipstick. No matter what age, skin tone, or hair color you have, anyone can don red lips. It all comes down to picking a shade that works best with your skin tone. For example, warmer skin tones pair well with a wine red; cooler skin tones work best with a blue-based red; olive skin is best with a coral red. Glamour Magazine offers a complete run-down on picking the best red for your skin tone. However, I'm a firm believer while certain reds might be more ideal with certain skin tones, this is a lose rule. I have every shade of red lipstick known to woman and typically choose the shade based on my mood, outfit, eye makeup colors, etc.

Tip #2 Now that you've conquered your fears, decide what shade you want to sport. Do you want a red that really pops? If so, go with a coral, orange-based red. Do you want a warmer red? Then go with a shade that has brown undertones. Do you want a wine-stained pout? Choose a shade that has a purple hue.

Tip #3 Make your bold lips long lasting. First, use a complimentary lip liner shade and trace the inside edges of your lips. Then use the liner to fill in lips (this will help the lipstick adhere). After applying the liner, blot lips. Next, apply lipstick. Blot and then apply another layer of lipstick. Lastly, finish with powder: dust your lips lightly with face powder (use sparingly as it doesn't take much).

There. Whether a happy hour social or a trip to the grocery store, you are ready to sport bold, red lips with utter confidence this season…

During August Society 805 celebrates art. Naturally, I was inspired to write about makeup for this issue.

I have been fascinated with makeup since I was a little girl. I always admired the precision in which my aunt would paint her face. She was a masterpiece right off the cover of a magazine. In my home makeup wasn’t permitted, so before homeroom I’d sneak into the school bathroom to apply my creamy lavender eye shadow and black eyeliner. It took my mom months to notice, but by that time she had given in.

I’m the type of gal who enjoys the ritual of getting ready to go out more than actually going out. I set the mood by putting on music and carefully laying out the elements – my makeup routine is practically an art form.

I begin with moisturizer (if it’s daytime it must include SPF). The moisturizer hydrates and prepares my skin. My favorite step is concealing my blemishes and dark circles with Elf’sConcealer. As we settle into summer most of us have vacations, celebrations and special events with friends and family where food and wine are always invited to the party. My most joyful memories consist of evenings spent drinking in scrumptious fare and great conversation.

Put down the toxic soda and replace it with water – 64 ounces to be exact (that’s eight 8-ounce glasses for those who suck at math). Don’t scowl at me; you’ll get frown lines. Sunscreen Recommendation

OK, the sun is trying to come through that June gloom, which means the sun is right behind it! Those that pass through my Boots Cosmetic aisle (at 3 local Target stores) ask me what I use and what would I recommend for sunscreen. I do it in a couple of different ways. I use one type when I am working and another for my 'day off' use. When I am working, I use Clinique's Super City Block in SPF40 under my make up as a primer. Even though it has a bit of a tint to it, but it works perfect under makeup. There is also a Clinique City Block SPF25 if you want to get some of those UVA/UVB rays through!

When I am going to be out and about, I like to use Lavanila's The Healthy Sun Screen SPF40. It's geared more for the face, but I love it's consistency for the decolletage area, arms and legs. Not greasy at all and the scent is very light.

Two of the areas of the body that are continually forgotten are the neck and the backs of the hands. The back of our hands get more exposure to the damaging rays due to driving. Keep a sunscreen sample in your car and apply it to the backs of your hands.
