How Does +1 affect a site’s performance in search engine results?

Content recommended by friends and acquaintances is often more relevant than content from strangers. Because +1’s from friends and contacts are a useful signal to Google when determining the relevance of your page to a user’s search query. This is just one of many signals Google may use to determine a page’s relevance and ranking. For +1's, as with any new ranking signal, Google will be studying carefully and learning how those signals affect search quality.

What are meta tags and what role do they play in your web page getting found by a search engine?

The W3schools explains it this way; "Meta elements are typically used to specify page description, keywords, author of the document, last modified, and other metadata. The metadata can be used by browsers (how to display content or reload page), search engines (keywords), or other web services. "

In short, meta tags are used to distinguish your site from other websites. Without meta tags being used in website development it would almost impossible for search engines to tell one site from another. Here are some key things you need to understand about Meta Tag usage.

Using unique meta tags are extremely important, you can be penalized by search engines if you have duplicate meta tags. The following tags must be unique; title, keywords, description, and charset. Meta tags are always are placed in the head section of your webpage.
Here is a basic example of meta tag use;

<head><meta name="description" content="Free Web tutorials"><meta name="keywords" content="HTML,CSS,XML,JavaScript"><meta name="author" content="Ståle Refsnes"><meta charset="UTF-8"></head>

The most important of the meta tags is the "Title" tag. The title tag is often misused and can cause search engines penalize your website. A common mistake made in webpage development is duplicate titles on webpages. This is often due to copying a webpage and forgetting to change the title or not knowing you need to change the title to match the new content. A search engine will assume that your website has pages with the same content and will not index your site properly, this will cause you to miss potential traffic to your site.

”There are times when it is hard to believe in the future, when we are temporarily just not brave enough. When this happens, concentrate on the present. Cultivate le petit bonheur (the little happiness) until courage returns. Look forward to the beauty of the next moment, the next hour, the promise of a good meal, sleep, a book, a movie, the likelihood that tonight the stars will shine and tomorrow the sun will shine. Sink roots into the present until the strength grows to think about tomorrow.”

by Google
Share by http://ping.fm/SZA1N

1. Pick a markup format.

Google suggests using microdata, but any of the three formats below are acceptable. You don't need any prior knowledge of these formats, just a basic knowledge of HTML.

Microdata (recommended)
Microformats
RDFa
2. Mark up your content.

Google supports rich snippets for these content types:

Reviews
People
Products
Businesses and organizations
Recipes
Events
Music
Google also recognizes markup for video content and uses it to improve our search results.

One key element of creating a successful site is not to worry about Google's ranking algorithms or signals, but to concentrate on delivering the best possible experience for your user by creating content that other sites will link to naturally—just because it's great.

Add Google’s translation plug in to your website

Now you can polish up Google’s translation of your website

(Cross-posted on the Google Translate Blog)

Since we first launched the Website Translator plugin back in September 2009, more than a million websites have added the plugin. While we’ve kept improving our machine translation system since then, we may not reach perfection until someone invents full-blown Artificial Intelligence. In other words, you’ll still sometimes run into translations we didn’t get quite right.

So today, we’re launching a new experimental feature (in beta) that lets you customize and improve the way the Website Translator translates your site. Once you add the customization meta tag to a webpage, visitors will see your customized translations whenever they translate the page, even when they use the translation feature in Chrome and Google Toolbar. They’ll also now be able to ‘suggest a better translation’ when they notice a translation that’s not quite right, and later you can accept and use that suggestion on your site.

To get started: Add the Website Translator plugin and customization meta tag to your website Then translate a page into one of 60+ languages using the Website Translator To tweak a translation: Hover over a translated sentence to display the original text Click on ‘Contribute a better translation’ And finally, click on a phrase to choose an automatic alternative translation -- or just double-click to edit the translation directly. For example, if you’re translating your site into Spanish, and you want to translate Cat not to gato but to Cat, you can tweak it as follows:

Protect Yourself
Since standard homeowners insurance doesn't cover flooding, it's important to have protection from the floods associated with hurricanes, tropical storms, heavy rains and other conditions that impact the U.S.

In 1968, Congress created the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to help provide a means for property owners to financially protect themselves. The NFIP offers flood insurance to homeowners, renters, and business owners if their community participates in the NFIP. Participating communities agree to adopt and enforce ordinances that meet or exceed FEMA requirements to reduce the risk of flooding.

Find out more about the NFIP and how it can help you protect yourself.

Ralph,

thanks for the book, how ever I read it many times and the version by Dennis Kimbro " Think and Grow Rich, a Black Choice". I have long since master the ability to make money and teach others. I was building a small business a few years back that came to be worth a few millions,I allowed myself to get side track into other ventures, Minor League basketball team, Energy Drink, Media Holding company. I lost everything by taking my eye of the prize and my family suffered as a result.

That was six years ago, today I am over that and on the road to a successful business once more. God has always favored me when it came to business, so I am not taking his gift for granted. Focusing on streaming lining my business model and expanding internationally takes all my time. I am training five young partners to help run my business. So I would not entertain another opportunity no matter what is was.
