Earthlights,Dragons, UFOs … Psychological Warfare, can they all be the same thing?

Ex CIA Director Walter B. Smith wrote this internal memo in 1952. It speaks for itself really.

But what doesn’t speak for itself is the difference between natural phenomena and man-made technology. Let’s go back to the start.
Tectonic strains within major earthquake fault lines have been the cause of strange lights in the sky. That is, lights from within the earth’s core that is fired out into the atmosphere. But we don’t live in hotspot areas such as the US, Norway or Australia to see this.
Operation Photoflash also keeps coming back into the equation. Could it be that there were about 10+ military planes circulating the North Wales regions firing flares during the night in January 1974? It is possible... but we think not.
Throughout history UFO sightings has been used as a cover up for testing secret military equipment. This was evident during World War 2 with the Nazi war machine, and in the 60s and 70s when the Soviet Union emerged as a major power in the weapons race against the Americans.
My question to you is this. Can the official explanation of the earthquake story be a cover-up? We are not in a region that experiences many earthquakes, and we are nowhere near major or even minor fault lines to have such large scale ground movement.
This is where Scalar Electromagnetic (SEM) weapons comes into the fold. Crazy as it may seem.
Scalar technology emerged in the height of the Cold War in the 60s.This was at a time when the KGB controlled the development of Scalar experiments under a certain ‘Soviet Energetics Program’. A program underway to develop a weapon deadlier than that of an atomic bomb.

President Khrushchev of the Soviet Union made a massive statement during a United Nations summit in the 60s. He said that if the world was to fail in its nuclear disbarment – the Soviet Union would introduce a weapon more powerful than nuclear.
A guy banging his shoe in anger on the desk surely would not hold back in sending weapons testing missions over to the UK, and to North Wales, would he? And the sightings of bright spheres of light are a trademark phenomenon upon the use of SEM weapons. This is the connection we propose.
So this begs the question: Was the military on edge on the night back in 1974? They had every right to be with Electromagnetic high on the agenda. And since that convoy of military vehicles was seen coming through into North Wales that night, surely they authorities knew that there was a foreign threat.
CIA Director Walter B. Smith saw this threat. President Khrushchev of the Soviet Union warned the world. - ~~Mulder is abducted by aliens every week! Certainly anything is possible in this topic. We have even experienced a SEM disturbance to our car during an expedition in Snowdonia!~~
After all, we know only too well that over the years there has been many plane wreckages retrieved over the Berwyn mountains, least of all a certain advanced radio device that was traced back to be of Russian origin.
So looking over the waters to the east at the old Soviet Union isn’t a bad idea after all to find the answers to the Berwyn Mountain UFO puzzle does it? The truth is out there.

The last few months have been kind to me and Mulder. Our work with the unexplained has even given us a small amount of fame, our inbox seems to be filling up and the hits on our websites are gaining pace. With this in mind we have decided to bring someone new into the team, Marvin the Paranoid Android has decided to join us! we will give you some more details about him in our about us section over the next few weeks, but for now we wanted to welcome him by publishing a few words from a book hes currently writing.

The Welsh Triangle
Flicking through some stories and opinions on the one great question ‘’Are we alone?’’ one Friday night, it prompted me to forget about Roswell, Area 51 and The Black Mailbox and think a little closer to home. There are as equally important questions that need to be answered in the picturesque hills and coastlines of Wales. Coming across berwynufocrash.blogspot.com gave me hope that others had the same questions as me – and filled me with faith that these questions can be answered.
I would like to bring to your attention a little matter known as ‘The Welsh Triangle’. The idea derives from the use of the more popular term ‘The Bermuda Triangle’ – An area where over 1000 people and over 100 aeroplanes vanished without trace. When this area is plotted on a map, it makes up a triangle. The same idea applies in ‘The Welsh Triangle’, of course however applying to a UFO hotspot as opposed to a triangle of death.
Attention turned to the West Wales coastline on the 4th of February, 1977 when 15 primary school children at Broad Haven Primary School revealed they had seen a ‘Cigar-shaped UFO’ in a field behind the school. The older kids even claimed that they saw a ‘Silver man with pointed ears’ emerge from the craft.
School children accounts of the event were always going to be belittled by the authorities – I believe the official account was ‘’a combination of over-active imaginations and too much television’’ – however in a strong show of support for his pupils, the head teacher – Ralph Llewellyn revealed that he had got all 15 pupils to draw what they saw that day. He was amazed by how similar the drawings were.
One sighting I hear you say, big deal. Teachers at the school reported the same craft on the 17th September. The owner of the Haven Fort Hotel in Little Haven claims to have seen an 'upside-down saucer' on April 19, 1977. Billy and Pauline Coombs at Ripperston Farm saw a 7 ft creature in a silver suit on April 23, 1977 late at night.
It just goes to show that the truth is not only out there, but it is everywhere...

So wheres the Berwyn crash site?

We have been away from the Berwyn blog for too long, we have always had fun writing and promoting it.

I’d like to take you back to what started all this for us. Sitting in my office playing around on Facebook at the start of this year I was joined by a new work colleague, a young handsome chap that now goes by the name of Fox Mulder!

Anyway, having to break the ice I cracked some rubbish joke about E.T needing to borrow my bike and running up a huge phone bill at my mum’s house! Expecting to see the normal blank stare that I always get when I mention space I was surprised to hear his response he asked me if I’d heard of the Berwyn UFO crash. Well as you can guess our careers pretty much ended at that point with Google being our new occupation!

Asking the obvious first question if it happened then where……

Well Google maps is a great place to start, notice anything out of place in the picture below?

In the middle of this image is a square area of trees that as you can see, really is ‘in the middle of nowhere’. There is only empty land surrounding the entire place, no roads or farming tracks it’s just bog land with one solemn crop of trees slap bang in the middle! We struggled to get up there on foot, Mulder even lost his left Doc Martins’ in some mud bog.
It’s an odd place to visit, the tree crop looks all wrong sort of like it fell from the sky. It simply does not fit we just had to take a closer look.

We were very lucky with our timing because when we got there we noticed some recently cut trees. As I’m sure you all know a tree gains a ring each year so counting the rings would give us a date. We did this ring count in January 2011 as you can see from the pic below we counted 38 rings. So 38 years ago, in 1973 this tree would have been a seedling. The entire forest consists of trees at similar height which suggests all have been planted together, therefore it seems that this forest was planted around the date of the incident.

More than half a year on we are no closer to finding a logical explanation for the wood land - was it planted to help cover things up?

I wonder if a soil sample would turn up anything….

Porton Down

I know its been a long time since my last post but we have been on holiday up north looking for yeti!

Following on from our now not so recent visit to Bala, it was obvious that Porton Down needed to be investigated further. Mulder had been excited by the site for sometime, even liking it to area 51.

Officially it was set up to help develop chemical weapons which is controversial in its self but dig a little deeper and you begin to see this place has many a secret to hide from mutant crops to human testing. You can find more on this on Wiki as its not of interest to us here.

What is of interest though is if E.T had lost his way and crashed on the Berwyn it is most likely that he would have been taken here for testing and research - thats if you believe such a thing goes on in the UK.

In a book by the respected researcher Nick Redfern, lie claims that two dead non-earthy bodies had been recovered from the Berwyn site and where transported to this same establishment. A soldier quoted in the book was sent to the area with four others and loaded two rectangular shaped boxes onto their armoured truck.
In part this was also backed up by a news reporter who claimed to have seen the truck being loaded on the Berwyn. Now although these claims seem far fetched, the fact that people are willing to risk public humiliation to speak out about what they believe to have seen, should never just be dismissed because of naivete. So lets look at this from another angle.

lets say you are a government official, and you have just been informed of a UFO down in a remote part of Wales. The main priority is secrecy and you have a large resource of army equipment to hand, what would be the best way off that mountain?

Was ET in Bala?

Some sketchy reports may lead you to believe so.

Part way through our third Big Mac we began day dreaming of ET and what it would mean for a small town like Bala if he had really been there. Would it really look like a welsh Roswel? we had to find out...

Its now 12 o clock, Mulder has his best lumber jack shirt on and we've just hit the last pub in Bala. Up till now this place has been a massive disappointment. - Plas Coch was dead and Tegid failed to show up at the lake. Not to worry though our luck was about to change.
Across from the bar two girls catch our eye, "UFO hunters" Mulder shouts in a drunken state, the pub stops and the girls start to laugh "yeah we like aliens" they reply.

Our first ever interview.

Dr Mulder: So ladies whats your names and more importantly have you seen ET?

Gina: Hi I'm Gina and this is my friend Steph and no we haven't seen ET but we have heard stories.

Dr Mulder: Tell us more.

Steph: Are you two reporters or something?

Dr Scully: Err kind of, we used to be on the telly!

Dr Mulder: Have you ever heard stories of a crashed UFO?

Steph: Yeah people talk about it here all the time, some people even think they kept a dead alien in the woods by here to stop the press from finding out. A secret camp site type of thing.

Dr Scully: Why would they do that?

Gina: Well the story goes that the army had to wait for a helicopter to pick the body up before taking it to Porton Down for testing and things.

Dr Scully: Porton Down, interesting. Well thank you for time.

Dr Mulder: Yeah thanks ladies and say hi to Tegid for me.

Leukaemia cluster

What is it?

A leukaemia cluster is an area with a high number of leakaemia cases, which may or may not have a cause other than chance. Leakamia and other types of cancer clusters can sometimes be linked to areas of high radiation, a good example of which is a 4,000 square mile area of Balarus that the Russians cloud seeded to save Moscow during the melt down at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

How does this tie into our investigation?

North wales and the Liverpool area are said to be in a Leukaemia cluster with cancer cases in the region being 15 times higher than the national average.
After the Berwyn incident, radiation readings where taken at the stone circle on Moel ty Uchaf - one of the many bronze age settlements on the Berwyn range. The geiger counter showed unusually high amounts of radiation around the stones, this could point towards something untoward in the area. Many UFO stories do have reports of high radiation readings, Rendlesham springs to mind.

So why the hype?

Well to be honest we are unsure, yes it is odd but inconclusive. For the readings to be taken seriously they would have to be taken again and again over a measured period of time as part of an in depth study. We haven't been able to find any evidence of more readings which is surprising because the near by Trawsfynnyd nuclear power station must have wanted to be sure they were not to blame for the high readings. - Maybe they had been asked not to dig deeper.

Fallen eagles

I stumbled across a book called fallen eagles during our research and have been unsure on how to fit it into this blog for a while now. What the book tells us is that the Berwyn is a very difficult place to navigate by air, with fierce dawn-draughts and very unpredictable weather. The book itself got us thinking about the witnesses first thoughts of a plane crash being the cause of the bang and earthquake. We plan to go into more detail on the plane crash theory in a later blog, below is a small list taken from the book of the plane crashes that occurred on the Berwyn.

Operation photoflash

let me get one thing straight from the start, operation photoflash is one of the most far fetched things myself and Mulder have ever heard. When the info landed on our desk we both started to laugh, the fact that someone from the MOD had come up with an idea to build a giant flash light that can be seen under the sea to flush out hiding UFOs seems crazy to us. Can you imagine being a fly on the wall when someone from the MOD asked the bean counters for the money to build it!

Anyway that's our thoughts on it but as you already know, we only try to give the facts its up to you the reader to form your own opinion.

Documents from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency came to light that showed an operation involving military aircraft and a series of ‘flashes’ across the North Wales coastline. Other than this source, no other official documentation of the exercise is believed to have surfaced.

The lights and aerial occurrences are said to be that of training purposes – however it is also thought by some UFO hunters that this is the key factor in solving the Berwyn Mountain Incident.

An investigator on the subject has deemed it to be a secret operation for lighting up the coast to help find submerged craft in the sea. But however secret this operation was supposed to be, fisher men claim to have witnessed it in action seeing UFOs flying out of the sea moments before the Berwyn incident occurred.

Not surprisingly the MOD deny any involvement.

Black helicopter

Visits from men in black often go hand in hand with sightings of black helicopters in America. After a bit of research we have found this seems to be the case with the Berwyn incident as well.

During the autumn of 1973 up on the Berwyn, a helicopter was spotted by beaters flying very low in bad weather. The witnesses said it appeared to be looking for something or attempting to land, as the beaters got near to the helicopter it flew off into the clouds.

The incident was reported to the police because during that time Cheshire and parts of north Wales were plagued by sightings of this helicopter, the press even dubbed it the "phantom copter" stating that the pilot must be a mad man. It may be a coincidence but sightings of this phantom helicopter were reported right up until the Berwyn incident, and wasn't seen after.

A possible explanation comes strangely from the IRA, it was thought that the IRA were using a stolen helicopter to fly guns and bombs into the country during this time and that although nothing was proven the IRA was put forward as the only reasonable explanation for the sightings.

Men in black

Some of the key witnesses from the Berwyn incident claimed to have been visited by men in black - No not the film but a term used to describe government officials.

Who are they?

Well in America the name is widely used and is thought to be a secret division of the FBI. Many witnesses to strange events have reported visits by men smartly dressed in black suits, saying that they have been brain washed or talked into keeping quite about what they have seen.
Although the brain washing part is hard to believe there is very strong evidence to suggest that men black do exist. In the UK reports of visits go back to the second world war. Because of the experimental air craft and rockets the Nazis used against our country it was in the government's best interest to investigate UFO's and the like. This was done by MOD officials, they would interview the witnesses after an incident to gather intelligence. Many unexplained events in the UK were followed up by these visits and still are even today. It is thought that there's tens of thousands of intelligence files gathered by the MOD locked away from the British public that are to sensitive to ever be published.

Setting the scene. What are the Berwyns?

The Berwyns is a mountain range which is located high above our village and stretches for miles in each direction.
This large remote area ranges from Llangollen, Llandrillo’s neighbouring town of Corwen, Bala and to the outskirts close to the English border at Oswestry which separates Shropshire from Snowdonia, literally dividing North Wales. It is mostly a wild and isolated area for which persons would find it hard for walking and to navigate through, as it proved for King Henry II of England during his invasion of Gwynedd in 1165. It is thought that the King took an alternate route coming from Oswestry and marching to Gwynedd over this misty and often cloudy terrain for which torrential weather prevented the army from making any progress, and where eventually forced to turn back.
Towering at the highest point of this mountain range approximately 1 mile outside of Cynwyd, is an area called the Berwyn ridge, it is made up of four main peaks Moel Sych, Cadair Bronwen, Mynydd Tarw and Cadair Berwyn all of which have been the witnesses of many plane crashes. It is also said that these peaks have been haunted by a multitude of aerial phenomena over the centuries and contemporary paranormal mysteries abound, including ‘phantom bodies’, ghosts, lake monsters and that most modern of tales the ‘alien big cat’.

If you are lucky enough to walk this ridge on a misty day you will soon begin to feel these mountains have haunting stories to tell. Either that or you will feel cold and want to go home.

So what the hell is earthquake light I hear you ask?

Well a big clue is in the name. Earthquake light is a very rare naturally occurring type of light that can be seen before, during and after an earthquake. Although scientists know the trigger very little studies have been done. This is mostly down to the rarity and the fact that nobody is sure how to predict them.
One theory is that the light is seen because of upsets in the earth's magnetic field caused by an earthquake.
So during an earthquake the magnetic field that sits between us and natural light in the sky becomes distorted, this separates the visible white light that the human eye sees into its reflective index showing all the colours that it is made up of (imagine a rainbow but shaped more like a ball).
I know what your thinking - it was dark when this happened, well a scientist would tell you that light is always around us no matter how dark things look.

The official explanation

The incident - as reported by the police and press at the time.

A large bang along with a number of unusual lights in the sky were observed, followed by a dramatic shaking of the earth, which lasted approximately 4 to 5 seconds. It was considered possible that an aircraft had crashed, or a meteorite had impacted. Within an hour, police searched the Berwyn Mountains and were joined by an RAF rescue team from Valley on Anglesey. Nothing was found, and all searches were called off at just after 2 p.m. the following day.

Something we both find strange is although the press ran the story it was quickly stopped and died down very fast. Nobody was ever really told what went on, not even the farmers or the witnesses that had been interviewed by the police and press.

Scientific explanation.

Scientific evidence indicates the event was generated by an earthquake combined with sightings of a bright meteor widely observed over Wales and Northern England at the time.
The Institute of Geological Sciences (now British Geological Survey) reported that a magnitude 3.5 earthquake was felt at 8:39 p.m. that night over a wide area of North Wales and as far as Liverpool (also in Formby 18 miles north of Liverpool). It was not immediately identified for what it was, hence the police investigation. However, the magnitude of the shock was such that had it been due to impact, the resulting crater would have been large enough to be easily visible. The unusual lights may have been simply the meteor, but may also have included the phenomenon known as earthquake light.

what we were told as kids.

When we were growing up the older kids told us stories of the strange things that have happened in and around our village, one of the stories I was told was of a UFO crash on the Berwyn mountains. Myself and Mulder think it would be best for you to hear this story first before we begin to piece together the findings of our investigation.

So heres the story as I remember it.

Let me take you back to the 23rd of January 1974. The UK was still on a 3 day week, the IRA where blowing things up and the cold war was pushing the limits of aviation.

The time was 8.30pm on a Wednesday and the night sky was clear but cold. Because of the 3 day week most people were getting ready for bed or having a cheeky pint down the local pub. A bright ball of light was seen travelling at high speed from the Ruthin direction heading towards Cadair Berwyn which is one of the higher peaks on the Berwyn range. Eye witnesses say that the object seemed to be controlled and did not travel along a straight path as it passed over head, this was then followed by an earthquake and bright coloured lights shinning out into the night sky.
The earthquake measured 3.5 on the rector scale and was large enough to knock pictures off the walls and send beer glasses flying. It made cracks in buildings and was even felt in Liverpool which is over 50 miles away.
People thought it was a plane crash so the police were called. They very quickly turned up at the scene closing off the mountain to everybody including the farmers that owned the land. The army soon followed stopping anyone who tried to get on the mountain. - strange coloured lights were seen all over the Berwyn during this time.
Over the next few days the local village became a hub of activity. Army trucks and chinook helicopters were seen carrying large crates off the mountain. People claiming to have been asked questions by men dressed in black, a couple of lads that I work with even recall having a drink with sum US army officers that stayed a few nights in the OG pub in Corwen.
After a week the army and police left giving the mountain back to the land owners a press realise was given saying that nothing was found on the mountain after an extensive RAF search. later on an official explanation was given.

In our next blog I will post the official explanation of the events, something which Mulder would rather you didn't read. I think he wants Scully to believe.
