Buckminster Fuller at the Whitney MOAA

The great thing about any city our their Museums. NYC has some incredible array of them too! NYC is even home to the museum of sex! last week I had the pleasure of seeing the new Buckminster Fuller show at the Whitney. To appreciate the man you have to understand him first. Without a doubt a true genius, no doubt taunted as a youth, he comes off at first like a geek. Nothing could be further from the truth. Reading the internet post about him some young cad remarked" He is the kind of guy who goes on a rant, like some old geezer at a bus stop." I am paraphrasing, truly unkind words non the less! Just because you watched some video of the guy when he was in his old age, doesn't mean the guy was daft. He proved early in his life that his designs WERE radical and way ahead of anyone else. I saw the car he designed with one wheel in the back to enable easy parking. So young dude before you judge this pioneering genius who "sits" next to you at the bus stop, you might want to get to KNOW the man. You sit on the bench waiting to go to your job at McD's and Mr. Fuller was building concepts and idea that only the elite of the Scientific community could begin to understand. In 1936 for instance, he created the Dymaxion house, incorporating for the first time, a four part lightweight bathroom. Many video clips are available at the museum of course, triangle is much stronger than ANY block structure on earth. He key understanding physics and mathematical principals of the triangle building, led him to groundbreaking architecture engineering geodesic domes around the world. He was a Harvard graduate who become a great humanitarian, preaching that no one should be "homeless," even you Mr. bus stop brat.

Note: Scientists, Crul, Kroto and Smalley discover the structure of the C60 molecule, is similar to a geodesic dome, naming it buckminsterfullererene!

Why I love NYC'S MET! www.metmuseum

Whenever you are close to the Metropolitan Museum of Art visit! Why? That's easy, you are never too old to LEARN new things. If the MET was gone tomorrow, part of my soul would die! It is one of those place in NYC, that no matter how many times you go, their something new to see. A new sculpture room on the first floor, replace the informal dining room. I have to go back to this room, having only spent an hour there. I am in lust with the room devoted to the Egyptian Temple unearthed on the nile. Many people just go to the room to think. How cool is that? DO NOT MISS THE METS ROOF! The views are legendary. You can also find a cool drink as well. The Volunteers also are incredible force at the MET, they all should receive medals! They donate their own time to help people navigate the MET. How sweet is that? Also, forget trying to see everything in one visit or even two. It just won't happen. So, you can always go back for more! I ALWAYS get the audio companion for the museum as well. But your feet will get tired before you listen to ALL of it. The buffet dining is in the basement now and the food is pretty good. If you want a fancier lunch, you might have to wait in line. The mid-museum cafeteria, have very good food and awesome desserts!

I also love taking a break from the MET and going outside on a nice day. If you have the energy you can walk behind the MET and check out Central Park. NYC has put a major effort into their parks, especially Central Park. On a beautiful day you can't beat it. If you are smart and live near NYC, bring a cooler with you. Ordinary picnics become unique in Central Park. You can people watch(everyone does) on the front steps facing fifth avenue.
