How is everyone? I’m tired. Why? Oh, it’s because I had a big weekend full of comic convention goodness, hanging out with friends I don’t see nearly enough, and more comic book work than I can do. My new secret pitch is coming along nicely, I think you guys will really dig it. I’ve been working in Google SketchUp building models for it. I know I owe you a color tutorial as well. It’s coming this week I promise. All that said, I need to level with all of you devoted fans and it’s hard to really explain, but where goes.

I do have a few pitches for new OGN’s going out really soon. Hopefully something will click with a publisher and I’ll get a green light! Hooray! Chickenhare, though I love it, makes me $0.00 and if push comes to shove there could be another hiatus in the future. Not now! it’s okay. I just wanted to let you know it might happen so it’s not  huge blow. I would never abandon it because it’s forever my baby, and I love it.

I think I enjoy writing for Chickenhare’s pompous father as much as I like writing for crazy Scabby. He’s so smug and there’s no other character in these stories with such an overinflated opinion of themselves. Anyway, for those interested in all things Chris Grine I’m kicking around an entire new concept for a OGN. I’m keeping it hush-hush for now while it goes through some revisions, but I’m feeling pretty good about it at the moment. I’ve completed the first draft of the script and now it goes before some other trusted folks for some thoughts and reactions. Also, I’m gonna need to learn Google Sketchup so I can design all the space ships and ray guns… oops! Anyone good at that kind of thing? Is it hard? Later this week I’m gonna post a step-by-step thing on how I do my color. It may not be as involved as some might like, and for those people I say, leave a comment and I’ll tell you anything you want to know about it. I’ll even add some new images if it will help you.

So… for those of you who haven’t yet read volume 2 of Chickenhare… SPOILER ALERT! Wait, it’s too late, you already saw Chickenhare’s parents. No big deal really. In volume 2, Chickenhare ran into his parents on the way out of the underworld which is when he discovered they were dead. They were very much alive when he left home so this was a shocker. THere was some hints at wheat might have happened to them but nothing substantial. Now you’re all caught up. Weee! I remember laughing the first time I drew his parents. I think people had a totally different idea of what his parents might be, or maybe he’d been some bizarre experiment. Nope, just interspecies mating. Dies this blow your mind?

Also, last week one of my readers, Gabe, asked if I could show how I do my color. This page was already mostly done so it was too late for this one, but next weeks page will be followed in the blog area with a step by step tutorial for those interested.

This magic stuff is very unpredictable, but at least this time it would appear Chickenhare is the one in control… kinda

Happy Tuesday.

I was really bummed to have to pass on the next two issues, but I was afraid if I stayed the course I would throw everything out of whack for months for the Screamland team. My hat’s off to those poor, awesome bastards who do the monthly comics gig with a regular job and family mixed in. This was a lesson learned for me and most likely the last time for a while at least that I’ll be taking on extra jobs, even cool ones like Screamland.

So now we get an idea of the part Barley has played beyond just the selling of Chickenhare and Abe to Klaus in volume one. This is the first tie in a while I actually made myself laugh while laying in the copy on a page. He’s done punchin’ babies, so don’t ask.
