Some vitamins and minerals that are not present in sufficient quantity in a western diet need to be replaced with other low G.I.foods ;

Super Food

* calcium
* potassium
* fiber
* magnesium
* vitamins A , C, and E.

Veggies just leave out the fish.

Beans – Navy,black,pinto or kidney provide high vitamin values.
Citrus – Grapefruit, oranges, lemons and limes. Choose your favorites and get part of your daily allowance of soluble fiber and vitamin C.
Green vegetables – Spinach,cabbage, collards, kale – these are power foods and are so low in calories and carbohydrates, you can eat as much as you like.
Sweet potatoes – A vegetable full of vitamin A and fiber. Use in place of ordinary potatoes for a lower GI alternative.
Berries – A choice of: blueberries, strawberries or raspberries? Regardless, they are all overflowing with antioxidants, vitamins and fiber. Make a tasty treat mixing the fruit with a light, non-fat yogurt or low fat creme for a treat of a dessert.
Tomatoes – Spoiled for choice, lot’s of varieties. No matter how you like your tomatoes, pureed,cooked, raw, or in a sauce, you’re eating pure goodness, like vitamin C, iron, vitamin E.
Fish – The oily ones that are high in omega 3, salmon and mackerel being the popular ,steam bake or poach,keep off the breadcrumbs and batter don’t fry.
Wholegrains - Contains all the nutrients that a grain product can offer. Processed grains like bread made from treated wheat flour, don’t give you these. Other nutrients in the grain are magnesium, chromium, omega 3 fatty acids and foliate.Pearled barley and oatmeal are good for fiber and potassium.
Nuts – A small handful of nuts can go a long way in providing key fats as well as being used as an healthy snack. Other benefits include magnesium and fiber.Some nuts and seeds, like walnuts and flax seeds, contain omega-3 fatty acids.
Low Fat Milk/Yogurt – Dairy does help build strong bones and teeth. In addition to calcium, other types of dairy products are a top source of vitamin D. New research is emerging with the connection between vitamin D and good health.

Some of these items can be expensive, depending on the season and where you live. Keep an eye out for lower cost options such as fruit and vegetables in season or frozen , canned fish can be very good .More research here

The Best Vegetarian Diabetic Diet.

Yes there are natural vegetarian diets that some diabetics depending on how high their blood sugars are benefit from and how well they respond to the treatment. Traditional Type 1 Insulin Dependent Diabetics will still have to take insulin since their bodies do not produce it any longer, but they can use some natural treatmentand foods in addition to improve their glycemic control. Typically the natural forms of treatment for diabetes are for those who are classified as Type 2 who are insulin resistant to one degree or another. A five percent weight loss of the total body weight can make a significant difference in the control of the high blood glucose levels. It may even make it that the Type 2 diabetic will no longer need oral medications, insulin, or other drugs to treat the disease. Natural methods to assist in lowering blood sugar levels include lot’s of fresh vegetables and the use of real cinnamon in the diet or as a supplement, and taking the supplement chromium picolinate. The results can be dramatic with some individuals, with others seeing very little benefit at all. (Note that chromium can become toxic if too much is taken). There is anecdotal evidence that liquid chromium picolinate can work in individuals who do not respond to the pill form. And don’t be fooled by the low quality cinnamon that substitutes for the real thing. The main 2 areas prove to be activity and weight loss,each very helpful to many Type 2 diabetics. And there is no longer the hard distinction between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics. There are those who are a bit of each Type. The goal is to control blood sugar levels. The diabetic doesn’t want them to be too high or too low. Control and even levels are the goal. And using whatever it takes to achieve consistent control should be considered and pursued as long as it doesn’t make anything else worse.Nature provides the fruit and vegatable foods that will help you to control the symptoms.Go to see the natural remedies now.
