For a while there were some that thought winter may never come but its here and so many are out enjoying all our area has to offer. The ice fishing is absolutely incredible out in front of our cabins and lodge! There is plenty of ice on our part of the lake mixed with very little to no snow on top of it making for some of the best ice-boating ever! These sailboats on skis have been racing past our lodge for weeks now and their operators seem to be having a blast.

Our trail system continues to improve with every little storm we get. Our base survived the warm temps we had previously and we are expecting a few storm systems to move through our area within the week. Cross country skiers have been enjoying our private trail systems as well as our Yurts which are accessible and available. We’ve also seen hundreds of snowmobilers so far this season and the news is that the best riding really does start at the Birches Resort.

Happy New Year!! We have about 20inches of the snow on the ground! The snowmobile trails are groomed but they will ride similar to Spring
conditions. The ground did not freeze prior to the big snowstorms we got, so there are some open muddy areas. We are hoping for some more snow to top off the trails and cover any open areas. We are grooming our X-Ski and snowshoe trails as we speak! We have a map at the front desk with the trails that have been recently groomed… Now we are still waiting on the
ice to form, Moosehead Lake is still wide open out in front of the Birches Main Lodge.

Summer is in full swing now at The Birches. We have been very busy with many happy guests.  Our lakeside dining room is serving three meals per day from 7 AM until 9 PM. The dockside dining is very popular now. We have a full time baker this season with some of the most amazing deserts and muffins served daily.

Our head chef, “Paul” has been at The Birches for 18 years.

All of our cabin rentals are directly on Moosehead Lake with many of our cabins just a few feet from the water.

Our marina is very busy with several pontoon boats, speed boats, personal watercraft, canoes, kayaks and paddle boards for rent.

Our wildlife safaris have been seeing moose and other Moosehead area wildlife. Jeep tours and pontoon boat tours of remote parts of the lake and the cliffs of Mt Kineo are scheduled daily.

Fishing in the lake and the moose river has been productive.

The Birches is now fostering rescue dogs and we placed our first one this weekend. Charlie Brown, a mixed black labrador was placed with a nice Moosehead region family. Charlie Brown came from Georgia and is now in dog heaven at Moosehead Lake. We now have “cheddar”, a cute six month old mixed breed looking for a new home.
