It's time for the big move! The Snob will be ghost for the next four-to-five days as I move to Washington, D.C., driving halfway across the country with Big Sis. Filmmaker and "King of the Chitlun Circuit" playwrite Tyler Perry was on 60 Minutes last night. You all know how I feel about the works of Tyler Perry. I have no problem will people enjoying crap, but it could at least be competently shot and blocked crap. But that's me. I can't get past the corniness of it all, but the market speaks for itself. Watch and tell me what you think.

The Snob Is Packing Her Things!

... And getting ready to move TBS HQ to Washington, D.C. this week. Last night Mama Snob helped as I packed up the bulk of the wardrobe. Today it's time to get the car serviced and tackle which books from my library are making the trip and which ones are getting donated to charity. Because The Snob is moving to D.C. this week, the site will be on a lighter posting schedule as I get myself packed, moved and familiar with our Nation's Capital!

TSU Doesn't Heart Tavis Anymore

According to the Houston Chronicle, radio/TV yakker and presidential critic Tavis Smiley's name has been removed from Texas Southern University's school of communications due to a dispute over the money Smiley promised to donate/raise for the school.

Danyel Smith No Longer With The Root

BlackWeb 2.0 is reporting that The Root executive editor Danyel Smith is no longer with the online publication, citing the commute between her life in NYC and Washington, D.C. as too much. (And that is a brutal commute, but ... Man, that was fast!) Smith was with Washington Post-based publication for six weeks. She was editor of Vibe Magazine prior to that.

Give It Up For the HNIC! ... Wait? What?

St. Petersburg Mayoral candidate Kathleen Ford quoted Cornel West's HNIC comment and got herself some criticism for it.Part of some of the criticism about Warren Ballentine telling Juan Williams he could "go back to the porch" came from those who felt Ballentine shouldn't have used a term blacks throw around among themselves in public. "What would happen if others started using it!?!?" some wondered. Everyone knows there are a lot of terms just used by black people, for black people and against black people that would ... er ... not sound as kosher coming out of the mouths of a non-black person.

Case in point the term "HNIC," aka "Head Negro (nee, nigger) In Charge."

Michelle Obama: Hula Hoop/Double-Dutch Star

Technically, this shouldn't be surprising. If you grew up in any city you probably played hula hoop and double dutch, especially if you're a black girl. Heck. Even if you didn't grow up in a city. It's about as common as "Miss Mary Mack" and "Shimmy Shimmy Coco Pop." Still, folks couldn't help but stare and shout "The First Lady is just like me!" when they showed her getting down with her hula hoop and her double-dutch jump rope. Get 'em, girl.
