I have a whole lot of time to spend and I guess this is as good a place as any to spend it on. I posted a fantastic video of Ray Charles and it is a truly amazing one. I keep playing it over and over and never ever get tired of it. Could be something is wrong with me or the music is just too great one never wants it to end.

Something else needs to be mentioned and it involves something serious and thought-provoking like economics and making a living stuff. Prout is a wonderful theory and there are wonderful people working on it but I don't subscribe to their tactics. That is just my humble opinion and I hope they do make headway in their endeavors. Meantime, I am just biding my time in Cagayan de Oro City, doing what I usually do. I would like to do other things but the doors are shut for me and I am waiting for some windows of opportunity to open for me.

I am quite passionate to an extent about music and there are some very good music to be found here: rock / pop / folk These are sites that feature great music and you could enjoy these as well.

Blogging can be boring at times especially if that is all you do, blog about a life which is going nowhere. Much different is when you have not blogged for a long time and you kind of lose the jadedness of blogging and it seems fresh and new.

Busy as a bee? I have not been posting much to this blog for reasons that has nothing to do with my internet life. It has something to do with my real life. It seems to me that my real life has lagged behind my internet life and that has caused some tension deep inside me. I did get some inspiration yesterday that prompted me to write something. I have been doing stuff relating to virtualization and I have had the pleasure of trying VirtualBox. It is good and easy to use but there are many things that I don't know about it and the manual while giving the main topics a good once over, is kinda thin on details.

Still, I will go back to VBox when I have the time and maybe when they have improved it somewhat which I think they will do very soon. They have been busy with that and I would love to see them fix the PAE problem with Ubuntu Server which I have been able to install as guest OS using Vmware Workstation.

For a long time now, I have been mulling over the seemingly endless days where I get nothing moving at all as far as seo is concerned. I now realize that there are far more difficulties than I imagined when I started out on this project. Lessons are learned and more lessons are heaped on you to be learned. Still, there are basic lessons that remain the same. Nothing really changes in a completely radical way at all when it comes to websites. There is the visual side and the content side to them. Nice color schemes, nice layouts, easy navigation and all those basic stuff gets the visitor's attention first. Then, you need to keep them there with your content. They might keep coming back if you have content that they want and makes them come back again and again.

Everything in life is about emotions; about feelings, about how certain secretions in our organs affect the way that we feel. I guess this is all that life boils down to. We feel bad and that's the main force that guides us during the day. There is no such thing as feeling good all the time. We chase after feeling good as medieval knights chased after the Holy Grail. There is no such thing. There is no feeling good forever. Like the famous man said, "shit happens".

Time sure flies. Looking at this blog's post I realize that I have not really posted anything before the last post since December of last year. And to think that I could not keep myself from updating every blog I ever made everyday. I called myself the blog bum and I was a blog bum. I did nothing but blog and I bummed around the internet.

Now I am keeping busy with Ching's World, something which I am not really sure will turn out to be as I first envisioned it. I had wanted something traditional, something which might be of some importance to some people. A directory with a twist. Ching's World has dreams of soaring high in the heavens.

Could a blog bum soar? Is this at all possible? Once has to change and adapt if one is to survive. This is a cardinal rule of life. If one cannot adapt then one is ready to be recycled. Ching's World will adapt as I have seen it adapt.

How does one know oneself? What questions could arise in the mind that could lead to answers about one's self? Very often, the thoughts that arise in our minds tell us or urge us or in general direct us to feel or do something. Where do these thoughts come from? We run here and there seeking to escape the demons that chase us only to find that wherever we go, the same demons bedevil us.

How is one to find peace? Is peace to be found in oblivion? In the sweet stupor of drunkennes or drug-induced haze? What happens when that loses its power? Do we drink some more? Ingest some more mind-deleting substances? What do we want to escape? Is it feelings of guilt or inadequacy? Is it a lack of validation of our mundane, puny existence? Is this why we seek to live vicariously through our idols?

Has anything changed since man learned to communicate his thoughts through written or oral history? Are the questions that we face now the same questions of some ape-like ancestor whose brows creased in an effort to explain his feelings of a brilliant sunset? We write and read books and publish on the Internet. Is it to explain some wisdom to others, or to clarify to ourselves, the confusing issues that plague our waking hours?

Chings-world has no answers. Not even questions. It has pretty pictures of the Philippines.

Almost two months have elapsed since I took a trip to Cagayan de Oro City. There were several things that I wanted to accomplish by going there and in a way I got what I wanted. I had wanted to see Moira Trinity (Ira) again but this time, circumstances have not been ideal and our meeting was not really something to remember fondly although I like to think that somehow she will still be part of my life. Shit happens and it happens quite often. I do not know when things will be better again and I will have the chance to see her again.

Living in Dumaguete is like Paul Simon's song, I am a rock. I don't see anyone. I do not talk to anyone. The only thing I do is sit in front of my computer and try to make sense of an existence that happens mostly in my imagination and seemingly has the quality which is larglely dreamlike in that "I touch no ne and no one touches me, I am a rock, I am an island". The song describes my life these days. All does not happen in Cyber Space or my imagination totally because I do have some tea plants that keep me busy. I got these from Jessie who recommended taking it everyday. It does seem to be good for my asthma except for the fact that these tiny plants take forever to grow and I have not really enjoyed its wonderful qualities on a regular basis.

After almost two months, I have only drank this wonderful tea four days in a row owing to the fact that I cannot harvest the leaves for fear that the plants would get stunted and maybe die. Well, surprise, surprise. When I finally worked up the courage or maybe I was just driven by blind desperation to have my tea drink, and I harvested some leaves which I thought to be big enough and plentiful enough for about two cups, a few days later I noticed some tiny growth of leaves trying to replenish what I had cut.

Life is amazing. Tea plants are amazing. You can't really kill them by over-harvesting, I think. They grow back and even seem to thrive everytime you cut them for a drink.

I sometimes find it pointless to blog and write stuff which I don't think people are interested in. But then again, it is kind of therapeutic to be able to vent things that do not mean to anyone but you. People pay good money to tell their stories to psychoanalysts, therapists and psychiatrists who don't really care about the words that come out of your mouth. My life is not a bed of roses and blogging has been a reason for getting up in the morning.

Soulcast says "get paid to blog about your life" and it was fun for a while. I did not see any money and I seriously doubt if anyone did too. But I really thought that I connected with the people who blogged there. What bothered me after a while was how things just kept repeating themselves. I am talking about the profuse comments that came from the bloggers.and I am no exception to this. I repeat myself over and over again. You begin to know what the people were about and you could predict what they were going to say.

Every one has an agenda I think and it shows in the way that they write and in the comments that they make. I could say that the thrill and excitement went away. This is the way with thoughts. They go in circles and you get caught up in them. For a while, I was caught up in the numbers game. It made a difference to me when I see my page views rise and Itried different things and wondered what the numbers would be like. This became boring very quickly. Numbers are fun but getting caught up in them is not really all that exciting. One could always add another number to an existing one and what is the thrill in that?

More important is connecting with people but this too has its drawbacks. People are not perfect and you gravitate towards those that seem to be complementary to your way of thinking. This means really that there is something lacking in you which you need to fill. Really, this is just the way it is with electrons and people. Electrons fly off from their orbits until they find a welcoming ring that needs them for stability.

The problem can arise when you compromise with something just to get that something that you need from them and I am willing to bet that they are also willing to look the other way about your imperfections simply because you supply a certain something that they lack. Hooray for symbiotic relationships.

Article Directories

So I have a blog and I have so many things that I want to write about. I am not really sure if anyone is reading the stuff that I write. But I am way past that now. I do not really make that the main motivation for writing at all. One can fall into the trap of doing something only if there is some kind of reward attached to it. After a while it becomes a chore, a tedious job and the fun goes out with it. I like the feeling when I am writing something and I do not let factors like readership or audience get into the thoughts that I write. Sure, they do bother me sometimes but a little bit of discipline is what I use to get to the job at hand.

I learned that there are such websites as Article Directories; where authors and writers submit their masterpieces so people can read them. I tried a few of these that were suggested in an article I read. Well, they must have been very high-quality directories because they said so at the start and they had standards that had to be adhered to. I suppose it is like that with editors and literate people. They force you to rise above your own inadequate skills and become one like them, living in the rarefied atmosphere of Article Olympus. I remember always wanting to write and I tried my hand at writing something which I thought would be interesting to people, when I was very young. I was maybe thirteen or fourteen at the time and I wrote a small article and sent it to a magazine. Weeks later I received a note politely declining my submission and that was the end of my career as a magazine writer.

It crushed me a little and I did not have the presence of mind to keep that little memento; so, on I went to other things like taking pictures and watching the girls go by. My mother always warned be against wanting to be a writer. She says writers were always broke. I guess she knew what she was talking about. Now, I find kind of ironic that I am writing and no one cares if it is good or bad. I write it into the air and who cares if it comes back to earth unread like a message in a bottle set adrift in the wide ocean.

However, it is not all like that when writing on the internet. There will always be something or other that will break the balance that you think you have achieved. Things like Article Directories. I would have promptly forgotten about submitting to Article Directories owing to the strict standards of excellence that editors require had I not come across a wonderful piece of software called Article Submitter. I had come across a few and the one that I tried unzipping needed to be uploaded to a web hosting where it can do its stuff; so, that was it for me with article submitters. As I said, nothing stays stable for very long and true enough, I stumble on another Article Submitter what was quite content to find a home in my desktop and do its job from there.

I would not say it is a wonderful piece of software since I have just used it twice. The first time was a disaster as I did not know how it really worked and I did not do what I was expected to do correctly. After a few days I tried it again and I am surprised at how easy it can be to submit to article directories. There are many of them out there and not all of them have your typical high-fallutin editors wielding the all-powerful veto to your article. Quite a number of them say,"Thank you" which is a real treat even if it's just a web page saying it.

I have tried a number of free blog hosts and like everything else in life, there are some that feels good and some that one would rather take up another day. It might be because of some features that appeal to me or that it is somewhat easy for my level of expertiese. Some blog hosts which have too restrictive features easily cramp your style and more and more you long for the freedom that other blog hosts offer. Of the many blog hosts that I have tried, I find Blogger to be to my liking. This is purely a personal assessment based on my own personal biases. Other people might find other blogging hosts more to their liking and I am sure that they have way more compelling reasons for their assessment.

For one thing, it is very easy to set up a blog in Blogger. They give you all the help you need to get started and as you gain more experience, you find that help is easily available. I don't really have the stomach for hard-core HTML but I do just fine with simple stuff. I don't really need to do all the fancy stuff that one can do with scripts and this is why Blogger has been my favorite platform.

I recently had a chance to look at other popular platforms like Wordpress and the feeling I get is that is is a really powerful platform which is to say, one needs to really dig deep and get dirty to make the most out of it. Also I had the chance to take a look at PHP_Nuke and it is also a good platform. There are a number of other web platforms and Content Management Systems available and I guess one will just have to go with what one feels the mostcomfortable with.

Blogs are amazing

It never ceases to amaze me: what one can do with blogs. Templates make all the difference; one can have a different look and a different feel which can go with the content or the topic at hand. Most of the time blogs bring to us the innermost thoughts of the authors who publish them. There are over six billion people on this planet and also over six billion brains with trillions of thoughts and dreams, wishes and desires. This makes for a very interesting mix when it gets distilled into blogs.

I have so many thoughts and so many things tug at my consciousness for attention But when I start to write these thoughts down, I find that they would not flow as they usually did when there is no attempt to bring them out of my mind onto some other medium like a computer's hard drive. My first attempts at bringing my thoughts forward in my consciousness and onto a computer screen were awkward and self-conscious and my thoughts would not flow as they usually do.

I try to compose and organize my thoughts and make the words sound right and it comes out even more unnatural. A thought comes to me saying "no one is reading this so what the heck! just write on anyway and be done with it". To be prefectly frank, this is great exercise for me and I feel that I can say anything that comes to my mind without the interference of self-consciousnes. Am I saying it right? The ancient oriental texts speak of the perfect action as that which proceeds directly from what needs to be done to execution without the interference of thought. The mind tries to second-guess itself. This is what the mind does: make so many thoughts and many of these thoughts are elaborations and often contradictions of other thoughts already formulated.

The term "devil's advocate" is really a game played by the mind all the time. This makes for indecision and leads to procastination. All it really means is that the mind refuses to stop spinning thoughts so it spins and spins thoughts which contradict each other without letup and without thought even.

Blogging broke my computer

I use a six-year old Pentium III personal computer and I never had any big problems with it. Well, it did catch a few viruses here and there but all in all it has served me faithfully and I have come to rely on it for everything except maybe for making me coffee. Since being hooked on blogging I have maybe overdone it a little bit because my hard disk suddenly started making funny noises. The next time I booted up I was greeted with a message that my hard disk needed to have a thorough surface scan owing to some indications that it may have developed bad sectors. I said to myself well, "the old girl has finally decided to complain after all", and proceeded to scan which took forever. Any length of time greater than three hours where I could not touch my keyboard I consider to be in the same order as forever. So there I was spending forever with nothing to do but wait not really thinking that anything was the matter with my computer.

Forever stretched to forever and a half and I could not detect any progress except for the red LED which lighted up continuously, an ominous sign to me. I decided to give the little lady a rest and turned the power off. The next day I tried to turn the old PC back on and I was informed that my hard disk was in danger of failing warning me to save its contents to another disk. This was it. I never got the PC to boot again. I had lost my hard disk.

It was not really blogging that blew my hard disk out. It was trying to promote it. Seeking more visitors to my blog brought me to an intriguing concept: bring my blog to sites where other people can view it in exchange for viewing their stuff too. I thought, this is a neat idea. I could pick up a thing or two from these people while at the same time giving them a chance to view my blog so, I jumped right in and joined a couple not really knowing what I was getting myself into. I could not really determine the ethical aspect of it although I suspect that some sites do go over the top. The gist of my lesson is very simple and very direct and required no wrangling with horns of moral dilemma, no ambivalence, no ambiguities and no equivocation. Traffic exchanges especially the automatic kind can be murder on your machine with special emphasis on the most vulnerable part of it: the hard disk.

I spend over sixteen hours of every day for almost a month now in front of my PC getting crazy about blogging. Ever since I read a blog on blogging, after having searched that keyword on Google, it seems I have been transported into another world where I could do anything I want to do, be who I want to be, and write anything that came to my mind. That the first blogging host I tried was Blogger might have added to the severity of the bug that bit me. For one thing, they promised I only needed to take three steps to be on my way to blogging heaven and it was true. I was hooked in 1,2,3 steps. No HTML, no CSS to torment me, I had a web page to crow about in less than an hour. Lol.

With so many templates to choose from I could make as many blogs as I desired, no questions asked. Well, not really; on one blog, Blogger's algorithm thought I was a spam bot and forced me to enter verification codes every time I made a post. Clicking on a question mark (?) I was taken to a page where they apologized profusely if I was indeed a human being and not some automated sub-routine or whatever it is those bots are called. I was asked to send an email to clarify the situation but nothing much came out of it. They never emailed me back and they did not remove the verification codes that dogged my every move. Bummer. I'm not really, completely, totally bummed by it. It's a free service after all; they don't charge me for anything and I wondered a bit about that.
