World cup and its significance to me

In a way, every World Cup since ‘98 had an impact on my life.

During World Cup 1998, it was during the period where I transitioned into life as a polytechnic student. Then, I would have caught the matches with a few of the poly mates.

During World Cup 2002, during my NS days, I was going out with my then-girlfriend-soon-to-be-wife. Needless to say, I had to put up with her ogling at those soccer players.

During World Cup 2006, I solemnised my wedding with the said-girlfriend just a week before the start. The first match, France vs Senegal, was spent in the comfort of a chalet in Downtown East ala ‘honeymoon suite’. I wasn’t sure which was more interesting: the match on tv or the match on bed! LOL (Of course, the latter wins hands down anytime!! :-p)

Now, World Cup 2010, I am watching it together with my wife and my 2 kids. Ok, both the kids are sound asleep but you get the drift.

The tribute to my coursemates and the beginning of a new era

Today will mark the last day that I will be going for full-time training over in N/I/E. It has been a pleasant 2 years. This Monday will mark the start of me journeying into the real life scenario of a full-pledged teacher.

As I look back over the past 2 years, I tend to agree with what most of the teachers in both my contract and practicum school said to me before. Not to mention what the wifey have also mentioned numerous times too.

“Enjoy the life in N/I/E while you still can. “

“N/I/E is like a holiday camp, real work only starts when you become full-pledge teacher.”

“Sure you may not like doing assignments over there, but I’ll trade for it anytime compared to marking 40 composition papers every fortnightly.”

“You’re tired after doing assignments ? Wait till you start teaching in school. Then you will know the meaning of tired.”

In life, nothing good remains forever. Because all good things will definitely come to an end. But I guess, it is how you learn from these memories and being able to channel it positively forward so that you can reap the most benefits is what matters.

Hence, I would like to thank all of my acquaintances from NIE DipEd class of 2010 for all the enjoyable and fruitful memories that I’ve experienced during the tenure over in school. Hope that all of you will gain success in your respective schools too.

Now, about the preparation for the new school. There must be some form of checklist that I need to list down so that I can remind myself on what to expect or do. Let’s see…

Choice of clothes
Choice of pants
Choice of bags
Preparation of stationery and other materials
Preparation of documents to bring
Preparation of breakfast
Things to ask to P/VP/SCM
Things to say to P/VP/SCM

Judging from the list above, I think my wife knows me best and probably will settle 3/4 of the items above. Clearly, I thank God for having a wonderful wife by my side and putting up with my flaws and guide me a lot during these great times of ordeal despite she herself about to be in a greater ordeal soon.

Dear Allah, I pray for my wive’s safety during the delivery of my 2nd child. Amiin.

Living in a mentally challenged world

A couple of days back, I stumbled across a familiar man, sitting near my void deck. He is probably in his 50s. As I tried to recall where I could I have possibly met him, then I realised that he have been around my neighbourhood for quite some time. In fact, I remembered seeing him playing football under my previous residential area with a group of kids back when I was in secondary school. That was about 15 years ago.

Unfortunately, while his circle of friends grew up and eventually left him, he doesn’t really grow and his circle of friends remains with young teens who love to play soccer under the void deck. I’ve already suspected that he might have a case similar to the mentally-challenged character played by Hrithik Roshan in Koi Mil Gaya.

I do pity him. I mean, his only existence in life is probably being overlook by most of the residents living in the same vicinity. And yet, the teens that used to play with him when they were young, totally abandon and forgot about him altogether when they grew up.

This is the harsh reality for people like him, unfortunately. And I don’t think the situation is going to change anytime soon for him though.

Which sets me thinking too. God has given me a lot. He gave me a good body, a good mind, a good family and a great circle of friends.

But what happens when I am all alone. Will my family and friends still remember me by then ?

slow and under probation drivers

If you just pass your driving and are new to the roads in Singapore, please don’t be a slowpoke and drive at a speed of 70 km/h on the highway at the 2nd lane (the lane beside the overtaking lane).

I mean, why can’t you just stick to the slow-moving lane if you want to cruise at that speed, oblivious to the honks made by other furious drivers towards you ?

Sometimes, I don’t blame people from labeling female drivers (yes, that driver was a female driver). Just yesterday, I was driving around my neighborhood when a car just made a turn from a carpark exit without stopping to check for incoming vehicles on the main lane. No points for guessing who was on that lane unfortunately though. Luckily, I was not travelling too fast but even so, had it been some other driver, the lady would not be let off so easily.

So what is the main point of this blog entry ? I guess, as much as I want the stereotype towards female drivers to be lifted off, female drivers do have a part to play in driving a little bit more carefully.
