A: Thanks for your question,Your tests have already told you that your are negative for HIV (both 1 and 2). You waited more than enough time to get accurate results! That being said, if you (or your children) are feeling unwell, it must be because of something else. Following up with a doctor who can examine you face to face is the only way to figure out the cause.Hope this helps,Erik

Q: Hello,I had unprotetected sex (vaginal) with two women, one week apart from each other. One week after the last time I got a sore throat that is not going away for 7 days now. I read in many websites that this is a sign of acute hiv and now iam very scared. I did a test when i noticed that with my throat and it was negative but the doctor told me to have another test after 3 months but i cant wait that long, it drives me crazy to wait that long.

A: Hi there,A sore throat is not indicative of an HIV infection. However, since both incidences were unprotected, the risk was increased. Overall, the risk still remains fairly low. You were the insertive partner, and it was only two times. And yes, circumcised men do have a lower risk of being infected. You can go in for a preliminary test at 28 days, and a final one at 90. I am confident both will be negative. In health,Richard

A: Dear friend:Because HIV does not have any symptoms the only way to know for sure if you have been infected is to take an HIV test. Now a days testing is not as daunting as it was in the past as there are options to where you can take a test without having to have blood drawn. I hope that this calms your fears and encourages you to get tested that you might know your status.

A: Dear friend:For that encounter you just described you would still be within the window period. Red dots and a rash are not indicators of HIV, as HIV does not have any signs or symptoms. I would encourage you to get a full health screen, as well as an HIV test. Reason being is that sometimes we can be infected with other sexually transmitted infections and not know it, as an HIV test only looks for HIV antibodies.

A: Dear Friend:I feel your pain, and would like to encourage you. Because you believe in God you are forgiven, as a Christian forgiveness has and is granted to you through the love of God displayed in His son. When we feel like we are not forgiven it usually means we have not forgiven ourselves, as God is always willing and able to forgive as there is no sin that we commit that He will not forgive us from. Forgiveness means to cancel the debt that is owed to another. Scripture teaches that the ...

A: Dear Friend:I can understand your concern and worry, I would encourage you to get a full health screen for sexually transmitted diseases. HIV does not have any specific signs, but other sexually transmitted diseases do. Also for HIV to be transmitted the person you engage in sex with must be HIV positive and there must be a transmission of blood, semen, and vaginal fluid from the person who is positive. Once again I would sincerely encourage you to get a health screening.

A: Hi there,Oil-based products like Vaseline can weaken latex condoms and increase teh likelihood that they will break. In this case it sounds like you were ok because the condom did not break. In the future, be sure to use water-based or silicone lube. As an alternative, you can use non-latex condoms as those can be used with oil-based lubes. In health,Richard

Q: Can you continue to have normal white blood cell counts and be hiv positive for three years

A: Hello thereYes definitely. HIV can impact all people differently. IT depends on many factors including the amount of HIV virus in your system, whether or not you are on HIV medications and other factors that are specific to that person such as their age. It is always good to talk about what each of your labs means with your provider so you can understand how HIV (or other medical issues) and medications are impacting your body. Take care,LHW

Q: Hi, I was working I with serum samples in the lab and had splashes on my eyelid, face and maybe lips (I'm not sure). I wash with alcohol swabs and later at the sunk. I thought it was nothing since the splashes are not on my mucosa membrane. Now after work, I feel paranoid. Should I be worried of HIV or STD infection?

A: Dear friend:Anytime that you are fearful of infection it is best to get tested to just be on the safe side. I will say based on your description there was not a possibility for you to be infected. Also to contract HIV the blood must have HIV in it. and vice versa with the other bodily fluids that transmit HIV which are semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk. The key is that the person with these bodily fluids must be HIV positive. If not there is no transmission of HIV.

Q: I had sex with a prostitute with two condoms. Is there a chance of HIV

A: Dear friend:The only way that there is a chance for infection is that the Condom broke. I will say this that using two condoms at once (known as doubling up) is not a good idea as the friction from sex can cause the condoms rubbing against each other to break. One condom per each sexual encounter is enough. God speed.

Q: Hi, Dr Todd!I will be very clear. In September 2012 was HIV negative.En September 2013, when I married a girl I met in July, Iwe been detected positive, but my wife is pregnant and above 6 months.all well.At first analysis, in November 2013: 22 000 viral load, CD4 1107. In January 2014 CD4 600 viral load 314. February 4, the day I start with atripla and I have the results of the blood recoltacion last month: 350 Viral load, CD4 700.I have several questions: how is the virus Accelerate much in so ...

A: Another number to follow is the CD4% which is a more stable number over time, as the CD4 count can fluctuate for many reasons. All of those CD4 counts are in the normal range (500-1500), and as stated, can vary. Hard to know why the HIV viral load dropped significantly prior to starting Atripla, and then why it has decreased significantly after treatment started. I think it will be important to see the followup numbers now and see whether the viral load is undetectable.

Q: Hii, i have a few rashes on my chest like 12 of them. They dont itch and are not painful. Am not experiencing any other HIV early symptoms. Are the rashes a sign of early HIV?

A: Dear friend:Since HIV does not have any signs or symptoms I would encourage you to go and get a HIV test, as the rash could be due to something else. Most Sexually transmitted diseases do not have any symptoms that are easily identifiable. Hopefully you will go and get a screening and find out what is causing your rash. God speed.
