Back to the Beyond!!!

Well we had our first meeting of cast and crew for the movie we will begin filming after the first of the year this morning...Saturday. It was a blast...meeting everyone...talking about our roles and the film schedule as well as the locations and big expectations that we all have with this project. Kevin and Ralph DiBacco are going to be incredible to work with...these guys really know their stuff and it will be an incredible experience. The crew is very talented and seasoned so we couldn't ask for a better bunch to be working with. The movie is titled "Back to the Beyond" and is a paranormal thriller...you couple the script with Maine's beautiful landscape, history, talent and the group involved with DiBacco Films and we are going to give the viewers an experience to remember!!! I will try and keep you involved throughout the process as much as I can...and I look forward to all the support of you the members of Bone Nation as we prepare for the release of this amazing film.

Concert Season Is Finally Here!!!

Well it is finally here...the snow is gone...the temp is rising and the Real Rock is coming!!! We are proud to welcome, among others...KORN, Staind, Shinedown, Chevelle, Offspring and many more as this concert season kicks off. I remember my first concert...BOSTON was the show and it absolutely rocked. I was hooked...I had to see all my favorites live and vowed I would!!! Well many years later here we are and maybe I haven't seen "all" my favorites but I have seen more than my share of incredible shows. I have been blessed to meet some awesome people along the way and believe it or not...many of them are no different than you and I...regular people that have found themselves in incredible situations being able to play their music in front of tons of amazed fans who scream and cheer from the opening note to the final curtain. I would have to say that my most memorable concert experience would have to have been "Ozzfest 2002" at what was then called the CDNOW.COM Amphitheatre on July 13th. I was there with another station I worked for and had the opportunity to visit backstage and interview all the people I could throughout the day...the "person" that I ended up with as a tour guide was none other than Dave Williams of Drowning Pool. Bodies was a huge hit, and was followed by their songs Sinner and Tear Away. I was a huge fan of the band and couldn't believe I was able to just hang out all day with this guy who was just as amazed as I was that he was there. He was like a kid in a toy store with a pocket full of cash!!! A regular person, in an amazing situation...in absolute disbelief that he was performing for the second year on the biggest concert festival stage in the entire country and he was genuine. He wasn't a full of himself, pompous, celebutard, jaded by the "sudden" fame...probably because it was anything but sudden...that band worked hard for a long time before any of us knew who they were and here they were on their second tour of duty with Ozzfest...he couldn't believe it. Dave was showing how things worked backstage with the prepping areas for each band's stage gear...introducing me to tons of people both in bands and working the staging area. I had a blast and the show absolutely kicked ass. We talked about the show, the interviews, the performances and the crowd for days on air after returning home and going back to work. All that excitement ended one month later...when the word arrived that Dave was gone. He had died in his sleep on the band's tour bus from a previously undiagnosed heart disease at only 30 years of age. I've had the opportunity to spend time with Mike, CJ, Stevie and singer Ryan McCombs who have carried on the Drowning Pool flag and they remain as humble and as down to earth as Dave ever was...and that is something that will always stick with me no matter how many shows I see or bands I meet...my youngest son got to spend the day with Drowning Pool...Mike even bought him some new guitar strings...I know he will always remember that day as long as he lives. He's still playing on those strings...and who knows maybe he will someday be the man who meets some wide eyed fan on their first time backstage at a show and I hope he will be as humble and as appreciative of their attention as Dave was to us...here is to a summer full of amazing moments, cheers and lets kick some ass together this summer.

I know, I know...you watch the news...you see the forecast...you go to bed and somehow between nighty-night and snooze button you completely forget that there is going to be at least 6 - 8 inches of fresh powder before you open your eyes and finally get your ass out of bed. I awoke this morning just like that... I watched the news last night and I saw the forecast all weekend long calling for a winter storm watch to be in effect but did I prepare myself for what I was going to face this morning when I stepped out onto my front porch?...NO! Why? Because I am a dumbass. We talk about them every day during our time on the air together...the stupid people that find new ways every day to make us feel better about ourselves if even for only a little while because at least if we cannot be rich...successful...or a combination of both there is someone out there to make us "feel" more intelligent. Well today that person appears to be me. I completely forgot about the snow...even though it was falling when I went to bed last night. I didn't put my boots out or my shovel inside the door on the sun porch...hahahaha, sun that is funny. I "did" prepare the coffee pot so I at least had a piping hot coffee to spill on my self as I slipped out onto the stairs and into the pile of newly drifted snow that had completely covered my steps and walkway...to those of you keeping score...that would make me a double-dumbass. Anyway with all the pissing and moaning over with it was time to get to shoveling. I made my way to the garage and grabbed my trusty bright orange weapon of choice and went at the driveway knowing I had to leave soon less I be late for work on top of being sore assed and covered in hot coffee. I decided right then and there that I would soldier through and shovel enough around my car to get into it and at least get the stairs uncovered so that I would not repeat my Chris Farley on skates routine on my way back out to my car. Mission accomplished...and no I didn't raise any banner. I returned to the warmth of my house...I cleaned up and changed into dry clean clothes...kissed the dog and patted my wife on the head and out the door I went with a fresh mug of coffee. I was the king of the world!!! All the blunders of the morning had been erased and I was going to be at work in plenty of time. I had started the car earlier so it was nice and warm inside...I changed my radio from the sissy crap my daughter listens to everytime she gets into my car to the FB&HW show so I could laugh at someone else for awhile and headed out of the driveway towards the frozen tundra that awaited me... Ever get that feeling you just forgot something? You internally scratch your head thinking whatever could it be but nothing comes to mind...? As I hit the snow bank that had been kindly deposited at the end of my driveway by the loving plowmen of my town it hit me...well it hit my windshield...my fresh cup of coffee that I had left on the roof of my car was now cascading down like the snow itself was dropping a deuce on me. As I yelled words that even the late George Carlin would have deamed unacceptable I plodded on...over the snow bank, into the road and off to work...I never like that mug anyway.

Winter not over yet!!!

Another morning of digging ourselves out of the heavy white stuff before beginning another day at the office. At least this time around we had some warning...not like the last storm we had. Just relax...before you know it we will be in late April talking about how much snow we "had" this year and it will all be gone. We are entering the concert season so it is time to schedule our time around the bands that we love that are coming to town. Beginning next month on Wednesday March 18th we have the "Saints of Los Angeles" tour hitting town with Motley Crue, Hinder, Theory of a Deadman and The Last Vegas. This should be one hell of a show if the reviews we have been getting about stops leading up to this date are any kind of clue...and this is the last stop on the tour so...everything should be "top of game" to wrap things up. Next on the horizon is the "Music as a Weapon Tour 4" with annual headliners Disturbed taking the stage with Killswitch Engage, Lacuna Coil and Chimaira and a whole host of other attractions in the day long festival with doors opening at 2pm. As the shows line up and dates are announced The Bone will continue to be your source of details and ticket opportunities...so keep it tuned to us and we will keep rocking for you.

Trapped Under Ice...

I was not here for "The Ice Storm" in 1998 so I didn't fully understand the things I saw leading up to this years event. People in grocery stores filling their carts like they only shopped once a month, at gas pumps filling spare tanks and generators...and all the while talking about "before". I have spent most of my life as a New Englander...so I have experienced blizzards that have crippled cities literally bringing large metropolitan areas to a screaming halt...but that was snow. We all know snow, it falls and wind blows it around...it accumulates on the road and piles up in our driveways but when the plows come by and the shovels come out we push it away and before you know it the snow is gone. I have learned this year that "ice" is a completely different animal. Standing in my driveway late Thursday night I listened to the hard rain hitting the ground around me and even as it hit the hood on my coat...as cold as it was...the sound was almost calming...then my ears heard something I had never heard before. In the woods across from my house I heard cracking and crashing sounds and I suddenly felt like I was in a Steven Spielberg movie and something was about to come through the trees making its terrifying appearance in the street right in front of me... Then it became clear that nothing was coming "through" the trees but that it was the sound of the trees themselves cracking and crashing to the ground as if being stepped on like match sticks. The thought entered my mind that I suddenly felt very small...how could something virtually invisible simply crush these huge trees as easily as you would crumple paper. I stood and watched for a while but the cold got the better of me and I went back inside...to bed. Upon waking Friday morning I was amazed at the crystal shell that now covered the entire landscape outside...everything appearing as if frozen in a snow globe at rest just waiting to be shaken back to swirling life again. The two beautiful birch trees that once stood in my front yard now bent over into the road as if simply brushed over to clear the way for something much larger to pass through...and then I understood. It is all about respecting the elements...and during this season when we hear words like peace on earth and good will towards man I will keep that it mind the next time the ice comes and I will be sure to smile warmly at my neighbors as we pass each other filling our carts, tanks and generators as we hang on and wait for the "ice" to shake the globe again...

Motley Crue...

This has been a fun week already and its only Tuesday. Having a chance to talk with the guys from Motley Crue...Nikki, Tommy and Mick...they are really cool dudes to chat with. Also having a chance to touch base with the supporting bands that will be joining Crue on the road next year Theory of a Deadman and Hinder was very cool. It is going to be a very good show with opening act The Last Vegas being proof that when opportunity knocks you better make the most of it...the guys are the winners of a joint venture between Motely Crue and our friends at Guitar Center who opened up the world wide web in search of unsigned talent to upload their stuff in hopes of a shot at the big time...they did and they won. As I sit here in my office it feels good thinking about these guys getting their shot...who would have thought that little smart ass sitting in the back row of history class shooting spit balls at the head of the teacher would find himself living the dream of working in the field he dreamt of since he was 8 years old and not only that but in a format that he lives and breathes...certainly not me...but here I am almost 20 years in the business and still kicking ass. If you ever find yourself thinking you hate your job...that it isn't quite what you wanted to be doing with your life...F' it...do what you want to do...don't stay with a job you hate just to pay the bills. Do something you love with your life...go to school (it is never too late to do that) if you have to but do what you "want" to do not what you "have" to do...because that just sucks and it will suck the life right out of you if you continue doing it. You know the old joke about the stripper who was only dancing her way through med school? You can stop laughing because when you wake up in the hospital...she might be the one you're depending on saving your life...it happens.

A new day...a new Bone Nation?

So the election is finally over. If you are like me and managed to get through attempting to watch your favorite show on television while being inundated with political ad after political ad after political ad...and still managed to find the strength to get out and vote on November 4th...congratulations...you survived the longest campaign in our lifetime...if you didn't than your not reading this anyway so screw it. I guess we can all breathe a sigh of relief regardless of who you voted for because either way it is a different future than we had four years ago...and by the numbers that have scrawled across our collective screens in the last couple days you made it out in record numbers so good for you...you really did make a difference this time. I kept waiting to hear the now familiar words..."well we can't declare a winner yet because Chad's dangling something again..." or "the race in the state that the candidates brother is Governor in is still counting votes...and they're still counting...and they're counting again..." There was none of that this time around because "YOU" made a difference and like I said either way you should feel good about what you did because you made a choice and like a true member of the Nation...you made an impact with either vote. We now have a future that needs our attention like never before...our voices need to be heard and believe me when I tell you...the winner and the people he surrounds himself with are going to "have" to listen now...because they know we are here...and we are watching.

Every four years...

The time is upon us again...election year. I know there are plenty of voting opportunities with local issues and candidates more often than the one we are approaching now but this one always carries so much more importance because we are not voting for a dog catcher, or a chief of local sanitation...we are voting for the next leader of the free world, our new President. The process that began two years ago is coming to a close and the two opponents are spending every waking moment stating the case as to why "they" should be "your" choice. Now, in case you missed the most important word in this blog entry up until this point I will repeat it and place it in bold print so there is no mistake..."choice". In this country most of us have the right to have our voices heard every four years with regards to who will be the head of our united family so to speak...and you simply cannot lessen the shear magnitude of the importance of that single action that each of us will take on Tuesday the 4th of November. Some people believe that the current President is a fine man with great intelligence and ethical fortitude who has followed the path that has best served each and every one of us and some of us watch SNL but regardless of that opinion...by the end of next week we will have a new leader. I have my opinion...people that know me well enough know how strong that opinion is...but I will keep my "choice" on this election day to myself until I am in that booth. If I could possibly pass on any advice regarding this Tuesday...I would just say listen to the candidates, listen well, then listen to your heart and vote with your conscience knowing you may well be deciding the future of you and your children with the vote that you cast. As I have always said and firmly believe...if you can vote and you don't...then you lose your right to bitch about decisions and actions taken later...you might have changed the direction with your vote and you blew it... Don't blow your chance...get out and vote this coming week. As far as who loses this election...there is always dog catcher or the sanitation department.

BIGGER, BETTER, STRONGER...HARDER!!!

Okay Boneheads!!! You asked for it...you kept telling us you wanted a bigger, better, stronger and harder Bone and we heard you!!! As of October 2nd The Bone will be found at 106.7 and 106.3 FM only...no more 104.7... We will be stronger and harder where you need us the most...in the car...at home...at work...hell everywhere you will be, we will be there!!! As I sit here waiting for the switch to be thrown I can't help but get a little pumped about the whole thing...everywhere I have been to in the last 4 plus years I have been on air here boneheads have always asked me..."hey, when are you going to get stronger so I can hear you at work...or in different areas here in southern Maine?" Well as I said...you spoke and we listened...it's finally happening and none of us could be happier. Thank you for all your emails and phone calls telling me how pumped you are about the change and how much you love what we do...because that is why we do it...for you. I have been on air in a lot of places...and this area has the best listeners of any of them...so you deserve this and as always I hope you continue enjoying it.

A true measuring stick?

Okay football fans week two is in the books and the Pats are now 2-0. Few of us have let out our breath we have been holding since the reigning MVP and SB savior Tom Brady went down in the first series of week one against the Chiefs...let it out...you're turning blue. I was among many who became sweaty with disbelief as our QB was taken to the locker room hoping for the best but expecting the worst...and then came the news..."Brady will be out for the season!!!" A season ended...dreams of another undefeated season dashed...a different outcome in the championship game on the horizon were over...or were they? Enter Matt Cassell...a player who hasn't started a game since high school, rode the bench through college behind current pro QB's Carson Palmer and Matt Leinhart and the last four years behind the seemingly indestructible Tom Brady. Well, as I told those of the remaining "Flying Elvis Faithful" last week...this weekend was going to be the measuring stick for the remainder of the season...why? In the off season nobody did more retooling than the Jets. It was like Theo Epstein was in charge in New York and he was building one team with the only intent of beating "one" other... The defense beefed up, the offensive line got bigger and younger...and last but not least in comes the last of a dying breed of gridiron gunslingers...Brett Favre. It seemed like this week was going to be do or die for the Pats...even the guys on pregame shows on each of the networks claimed that for New York it was..."If not now...when?" They picked one after the other for the patsies to lose...but as we all know when the ball hits the turf, that is when games are decided not when has been ballers and wannabe commentators claim the defeat before opening kick off. It was not the most impressive win, it wasn't the most dominating one...but it was a team effort and it was a win. Matt Cassell looked comfortable...and guess what fans...we have a running game? Who would have predicted that? In the end there was no Lambeau miracle left in the arm of the gunslinger and there was no glory in mudville...the Pats won again. This week we prepare to face off against the 0-2 Dolphins with our former nemesis Chad Pennington as the field general under the "Big Tuna" another name from Patriots Past... The measuring stick hasn't necessarily been past by...but as we inch closer to the end of it...we just might have a chance. Have faith...until next time.

How are you this fine day? Doing good I hope... I was sitting on the veranda this morning enjoying my java and surveying the Murphy Hacienda...just soaking in the beautiful morning, the birds chirping...breeze blowing in through the pines...the occasional uninvited guest attempting to land in my coffee...you know, just and average beginning to a seemingly perfect day. As I sat there I just could not get my mind off of the current political landscape and the "perfect storm" that seems to be brewing on the horizon as the trenches are being dug for a battle between Democratic candidates Barack Obama/Joe Biden and Republican candidates John McCain/Sarah Palin. It seems since Dan Quail made his "clown like" appearance in one of the highest elected offices in the world that every four years we search for someone in the limelight to say or do something "Qualish" to make more fodder for late night talk show hosts and stand up comics to use as material for days on end...and last night it happened. It happened almost without attention...in what seemed like a harmless conversation between Washington correspondent George Stephanopoulos and the lovely wife of Senator John McCain...Cindy McCain. When the topic of Sarah Palin's "National Security Experience" came up...Cindy McCain reminded George that "Sarah has been the Governor of Alaska...which is the closest part of our country to Russia...so she is no stranger to what is at stake..." What? Huh? Urrr? After the shock of ineptitude faded...I couldn't help but laugh. We have our "quail" and all is well in the world once again... This is just my observation...thanks to youtube.com you can view the interview yourself ad nauseum...and laugh along with me. This is going to be one interesting race...and who knows...maybe even the Banana Splits might show up or Joe Biden will announce he is pregnant...either way we all win because laughter is the best medicine...and now I have to get this flying thing out of my coffee so until next time.

WOW, what a long weekend. As you know...because you were there...Friday evening at Thatchers in South Portland was awesome. We had a blast qualifying people for the big Bud Light Party Cruise and handing out Bone Gear. I spent the day Saturday celebrating the 44th Anniversary sale @ Guitar Center. This is the place most often referred to as The Bonedriver's own personal Disneyland...because it is nothing but a playground for me. They always have the best gear you could ever ask for and always the lowest prices so that even a schlub like me can buy a guitar and do what I love most in the world...relax with the axe and enjoy frosty cold beverages. I can never say enough about Jack, Matty, Dustin, Shannon, Doc and the rest of the gang at Guitar Center (sorry if I missed anybody...you know we love and respect you all) and the way they make The Bone and Bone Nation feel like family every time we visit them...rock on brothers. That leads us to the day that was Sunday... The huge Bud Light Party Cruise giveaway event at Jones Landing on Peaks Island. I have been here in Portland for almost 5 awesome years and have only been to Peaks Island twice...both in the last week. The event at Jones Landing was incredible. The establishment and their crew were the picture of perfection when it came to hosting such a huge event with an incredible crowd that definitely came to party. We did the "putt the lime in the bucket" contest for the men and of course the "frozen t-shirt" contest for the incredibly hot women and qualified many more people for a chance but it came down to the lucky two that will take a guest along for an exclusive VIP cruise to the Caribbean to a private island and a VIP concert along with 4600 other Bud Light winners...congratulations to our winners...I will get you there names and pictures as soon as I can remember where the camera is...you know the Bonedriver...got to tie it to him or he will lose it. Anyway, we had a blast and we hope you did too. Don't forget Boneheads...this Saturday we will be at The Pier Patio Pub for the big Sea Doo Waverunner Giveaway so it will be your last chance to sign up and we will be drawing the winner that day!!! Okay Boneheads!!! This weekend is one that we have all been waiting for. On Friday The Bone will be at Thatchers in South Portland from 5p to 7p signing people up for a chance at that Bud Light Cruise...4600 people will board two cruise ships heading to a private island and VIP concert, hey!!! it could be you!!! My Summer Vacation...so far...

Well bone heads...this is your Bonedriver currently enjoying some frosty cold beverages and relaxing after what has been an interesting summer to this point...and there is much more to come. Since we last spoke I had the pleasure of enjoying an incredible concert...RUSH at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester New Hampshire in a "plush" ride courtesy of our friends at Atlantic Limo and Yacht Charter and I have had plenty of opportunity to roll out in the Asphalt Assault vehicle to many different locations to visit and share some great times with you over some liquid libations while giving out some cool prizes and signing you up to win even more. It is going to be a wet and wild summer, especially for one bone head who is going to roll away with a brand new Sea Doo waverunner and all you have to do is sign up at one of our remaining events...simply check out boneradio.com for locations, dates and times. IT IS SUMMERTIME!!!

It's finally here!!! The time of year between winter and mud season where we are out and about giving away tons of prizes!!! Finally something worth watching...even if it is reality t.v. I watched the debut of two new shows last night..."WIPEOUT" and "I SURVIVED A JAPANESE GAME SHOW". The first of the two show was the American equivalent of the "MXC" Japanese game show that use to be on the Spike channel except it takes place here and guys from ESPN host it. Why is it that people enduring bodily damage makes us laugh so friggin hard? I don't have an acceptable answer either but it is so funny!!! From the initial slide down to the playing field to the giant balls to whatever they make the contestants swing to by a rope the entire obstacle course is an all out assault on the body and makes me laugh...because it isn't me being embarrassed like the poor window lickers on the television...regardless...I'll keep watching. Then we move on to the latest in reality television with people being jetted off to Japan to perform on a game show. They are humiliated every step of the show...including the insulting subtitles when the host of the show isn't speaking english...which he speaks very fluently...and then they have to chose two team members to be humiliated even further to see which one goes home. It is amazing how far we have come from the old "Show of Show's" era of television...through the moon landing...to where we find ourselves today. I suggest you give each of these shows at least one viewing...and then you will know why there are no cameras here in the Bone studios...happy viewing.

Soon the calm and quiet of what is known as the Great Woods of Mansfield Mass...now called The Tweeter Center will be shattered by the sound of some of the greatest live metal ever to converge on one location in quite some time. Rockstar Mayhem is happening on August 5th with the double headlining assault of Disturbed and Slipknot along with many other artists to attack your senses such as Dragonforce, Mastodon, Airbourne, Five Finger Death Punch and many others. Three stages of metal to blow your head into banger heaven!!! I will keep you updated on the availability of tickets and possible meet and greets with some of the bands as I find out what is coming. I actually have Corey, Jim, Clown, Mick, Joey and the rest of Slipknot to thank for introducing me to the love of my life so...strange things can and will happen at a Slipknot show and you can check out the first song...and title track "All Hope Is Gone" at roadrunnerrecords.com for a limited time so check it out!!!

There are a couple of things that you can tell from the picture to the right.

First off, the chick likes her Bud Light - and there's not a damned thing wrong with that! Secondly, it would seem that she has some type of oral fixation, and that her capacity for fulfilling said fixation is pretty huge.

She also appears to be somewhat over served, which means it wouldn't take a lot of effort to explore her capabilities.

Yup, first impressions...gotta love 'em!

Welcome Boneheads one and all to the launch of The Bone Blog. This is the place that will keep you up to date on all things Bone and allow me to vent my frustration...not that I do that often... First off...CONGRADULATIONS BOSTON CELTICS for winning your 17th WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!!! We have one hell of a summer ahead here at The Bone and we cannot wait to see each and every one of you at all of our live events!!! We have the legendary Raft Jump coming up on June 27, 28 and 29 where our good friend Mike Carpenter will jump from a plane at 11,000 feet and attempt to land "in" a raft floating on the Penobscot River!!! We will be going to the Verizon Wireless Arena to see RUSH on July 11th and many other shows are coming our way and The Bone will have your tickets!!! We will be out and about all summer long so keep it tuned to The Bone to find out where we will be bringing the Asphault Assault Vehicle and your chance to score Bone Gear and other great prizes. This summer we will celebrate the return of the bash to end all bashes...BONE ZONE...were we will skydive all day and party all night with live entertainment and of course the infamous strip twister board game!!!
