Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers coming April 3, 2012 from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?

Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.

Ismae’s most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

This is one of my most anticipated books of 2012! I love the sound of it. And it’s more fantasy, which is so awesome. Also, the cover? I love everything about it down to the expression on her face. And the tag line is so catchy.

What are you waiting on?

So for my last blogaversary giveaway I am giving away a box of books! I’m not going to tell you what’s in it, because that would just ruin the fun. I will tell you it will be a mix of ARCs and finished copies. And maybe just maybe if you want a hint as to what SOME of the books may be, you might look at some of the books I’ve reviewed recently or my books I’ve read this year on Goodreads, but that’s just me.

This will be open until March 15. I’m sorry but I am going to make this one US only – it would be too much to ship a box internationally.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and Bookish. Each week features a different topic, and you make a top ten list about it. This week is the Top Ten Books I Would Save If My House Were On Fire.

This is a horrifying thought just the topic! I have hundreds and hundreds of books.

Both my hardcover and my ARC of Sea by Heidi R Kling would definitely need to come – I adore the book and both are signed by Heidi, so naturally I would have to grab them!

My signed Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken would be next, since this book is magical.

Then my Katherine Roberts books - some of these are out of print now in the US since I cannot seem to find new copies, so they have to come because they are SO darn lovely.

My Girl Reporter Books by Linda Ellerbee are books I adored as a child, and it makes me so sad to see these are no long made in print, but you can still get them in e-book. I think this series would be another thing I would grab. (And by the way – if you know someone looking for a really good middle grade series if they have an interest in writing or anything THIS is the one. I had to read everything about people who wrote when I was little!!)

I think next I’d grab Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally, because I just freakin’ adore this book.

Major Crush by Jennifer Echols because this one is like not sold in paperback anymore, just ebook – I think they’ll probably put it in one of those bind ups, but I like my original copy

My Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore ARC, because I think I am going to cherish that book forever.

I think the Harry Potter series is the last thing I would grab. I could easily buy new copies, but my set has so much character and I’ve had them forever!

About the book:

Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky-and unending-lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.

It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left. his soul.

I think Inbetween sounds super cool, though I’m not quite sure what I think of the cover.

In My Mailbox was started by Kristi over at The Story Siren! In My Mailbox is a way to share the books you received each week.

This week I got:

For Review:
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near-impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one unlikely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life– a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha… and the secrets of her heart.

Above World by Jenn Reese (Audio)

Thirteen-year-old Aluna has lived her entire life under the ocean with the Coral Kampii in the City of Shifting Tides. But after centuries spent hidden from the Above World, her colony’s survival is in doubt. The Kampii’s breathing necklaces are failing, but the elders are unwilling to venture above water to seek answers. Only headstrong Aluna and her friend Hoku are stubborn and bold enough to face the terrors of land to search for way to save their people.

But can Aluna’s warrior spirit and Hoku’s tech-savvy keep them safe? Set in a world where overcrowding has led humans to adapt—growing tails to live under the ocean or wings to live on mountains—here is a ride through a future where greed and cruelty have gone unchecked, but the loyalty of friends remains true.

Won from Alexa:
Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story. . .

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.

What did you guys get?

Today is my 3 year blogaversary! It’s a bit crazy to think that it’s been so long! I have had so many great times since then. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of it – Kristi, Heidi, Cat, Sab, Amber, Mariah, and so many more. You guys are awesome and I couldn’t imagine having better friends.

Blogging has really changed my life so much, and I don’t want to get all sappy and what not, but really. I think I can honestly say blogging is one of the best things that have happened to me – I’ve met some of the best people I know and discovered some great books, I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t blogged. But also just the changes in myself in the years I’ve been blogging – I’ve become a much stronger person, and kind of burst out of my shell. I mean, I quite literally wrote my entire college admission essay on blogging and the changes it has had on me.

So thank you to everyone who reads The Book Cellar, I appreciate every one of you, and it still blows my mind that even one person wants to read my crazy thoughts about the books I read, yet alone more than one person *mwah* You all rock.
