Thanks to some recent events, I will have my books back soon which makes me very happy. You can read more about it and my encounter with some beautiful old books here. Along with that and the term starting two days from now, I should be reading, at least a little bit, again which will inspire me to write and tell people what I think about books and the things they say. I miss the connection and inspiration I get from reading regularly, although part of it is my own fault for choosing to do other things with my time. Cheers to getting the contents of my office back soon though!

Anonymous was a very good movie that I have been wanting to see ever since I saw its very first trailer. It was so full of history, and of course, the art of writing. Anonymous painstakingly showed us the beautiful yet mighty and fear deserving power of words. Too often we abuse words, offer them up for situations far less fierce than your choice of words would imply. We take them for granted while we speak, write, type, text and sometimes even when we think. These are some of the things I thought of when the character Edward De Vere spoke about the power of words, him and Johnson both having such reverence for their truth and creation that neither would betray them. It was nice to see a movie that speaks to the artist in me =]

I definitely plan on acquiring and reading the book that the movie was based on. I'll most likely write a pretty inspired review and or movie comparison as well. Watching movies is not usually how I browse for a good book to read, but I'm glad this one fell in my lap, so to speak.

While some people say they are more visual [what creative language and reasoning you have.. of course its visual. Hearing people say this kind of makes me want to roll my eyes very noticeably] I think that you get so much more information, detail, and depth as well as an overall understanding of the characters and events while reading. And at least for me, as I read it plays like a movie in my mind anyways.

The reason I bring this up is because I recently started reading Water for Elephants, very small bits at a time because I can't seem to really find the time, and then saw the movie. I didn't watch the whole movie, but the beginnings itself was much different than the beginning of the book. Some of the actions and dialogue were also drastically changed. Sometimes this upsets me, but at the same time it just inspired me even more to finish the book.
Funny thing is, I'd already read it. Just didn't know because I didn't own in, but I'm pretty happy that I read it again. It goes through 5 separate teenagers lives, who for varying reasons start "turning tricks." Some choose it for the money, some enter the profession unwillingly. These 5 teenagers of both sex's struggle with other things as well, such as drugs, gambling, love, family, and sexuality. Some of them meet in person, some of them are only connected by living in the same city or using the same escort service. But though their stories are different, they are the same. I also really like that before each persons section in the book, there are actual poems that sometimes give insight to what is coming next.
It is the 3rd and final chapter in the series of Kristina. The first two are Crank and Glass. It is based on the true story of the authors daughter, however this final book is actually further from the truth and written from the perspective of Kristina's children, and set in the future. I love how the book rotates from points of view, the perspectives of Kristina's three eldest children named Hunter, Summer, and Autumn. She also has two younger sons who are a part of the story, just not told from their perspectives. Most importantly, I love the truth in how we are much like our parents no matter how our stories differ on the outside, and how somehow, family always comes back to each other.

I AM curious to know Kristina's real story, however I did really enjoy this book. Ellen Hopkins gave us, the readers, EXACTLY what we were looking for. I wonder if it was hard for her to write about her grandchildren in such a way, knowing that none of what she writes may ever happen. To talk about them and their sexual encounters, experimenting with drugs, and so on. I envy her for her strength and courage, for telling the hard truth about her own family. I also wonder if any of her family members resent her for the truths she releases into the world. In any case, I am a fan of Ellen Hopkins and have read almost all of her books so far, and excited for more. Most of all, I love how her stories are so strong, that I feel like I am going to miss Kristina and her family, who have taken a place in my heart.

PS! This time I read the whole book in like a day and then decided later that night to create a Book Journal blog, and this is what I came up with the next day after creating the blog. In the future I intend to blog periodically through reading the book and at other times, do the same as this one.
