Rowan is going on his 3rd year as a Cub Scout (He joined mis year as a Tiger and earned Tiger/Bobcat that year, then did a full year of Wolf, and is now a Bear). This summer he went to summer day camp for three weeks!

Rowan has continued taking Aikido, it's now been almost a year and he raked up one belt (to a yellow-white, 15th kyu).

OK, so after a long hiatus (sorry about that year of not posting, LOL!) here's what the Boop has been up to lately!

He started Aikido this year. You may remember that two years ago we tried Kung Fu. He was not quite ready for that, physically and mentally. He is much more focused and coordinated now at age 8.

1st grade meant his first real field trip and his first ride on a school bus!

He sat with his bestie, Henry.

The bus ride was thrilling! Mama was a chaperone and got pix!

Our team was Henry, Griffin, and Rowan.
They named our team the "Ohio Polar Bears".

Rowan had a parade and party at school and then went trick or treating. He was a Ghostbuster for Halloween, because he loved this year's movie.

This are two of his close friends in school, Henry and Jabril.

Jabril was the fox from Zootopia this year, and Henry was a cowboy.

He went trick-or-treating with his friends Misha and Shoshona.

We went to the Ohio Rennaisance Faire!

A new shield for Sir Rowan.

Rowan sadly died at the Faire.

He loved this ride called the Crow's Nest!

And this slide called the Witch's Hat.

He got to swing the hammer and ring the bell (kid's version).

And put in the stocks.

He died again there.

We traveled to Toledo for the special occasion and started it off with a night at a Japanese steakhouse. Rowan was impressed!

Lego Tour & Family Day

Saturday we went to the Lego Creativity Tour. We bought tickets months ago- Rowan has been waiting a while.

He was blown away by the sculptures.

Then, in the distance- a pile of legos
so huge it could not be denied.

Hundreds of thousands of bricks.

The kids were making lego angels, burying themselves.
It was amazing.

Then time to build! First up, Lego Friends.

Then he built a racecar and raced it!

Then they raced down a huge spiral!

Rowan got to wear his cheetah costume 4 times this year: Boo at the Zoo, at school (Harvest Fest) and two trick or treat nights: Clintonville and WV!

So Wonderheart Thunderbolt Firecracker's name has morphed into a more utilitarian Bird MacGurd. She is a fiesty lil thing!

First day of kindergarten

Poor Booper is a little overwhelmed by kindergarten. It's a much bigger school than his tiny preschool. The cafeteria before school is intimidating to him. And the first week was HARD. School drop off is at 8:30, and the first day he would not let me go until 9:30 and only then under duress. It's gotten a bit better, but I hope he really starts to like school soon.

It started out so promising. He was excited to go.

I just told him that once his teacher showed up, I needed to leave.

He is so sad here, lined up waiting for his teacher.

He cried and clung to me so much, I stayed through breakfast. Look how sad he is!

When Esme was in town, we went to the zoo. Rowan and Esme were gonna ride a camel together, but Rowan was scared. So she went on without him. Then he decided to ride one anyway, after much dithering. In the end, he was brave!

We have shortened what we call the bird to Firecracker (from Wonderheart Thunderbolt Firecracker) and it is growing a lot. It is at least 8 weeks old now, as it is starting to get some adult plumage. It won't be done until 20 weeks, when it will look completely different. S/he flies and easts independently now!

Wonderheart is changing daily, going from a loud greedy baby to a more aloof adolescent (I am told by starling people this is normal of fledglings and it is still imprinted and needs us. It will become more social as it gets its adult plumage. And when I say aloof, that is only in contrast to its formerly clingy 24-7 self. It still flies to us, wants to be on us, etc.)

Mama and Booper Days

Sundays are fun, we sleep in (til 8! Woo!), take care of the animals, then take a walk through the neighborhood! This morning we walked a mile or so to get breakfast.

He was overheated (it was HOT, even before breakfast) and this smoothie was just the ticket.

Double thumbs up for the pancakes!

Then we waited for a bus to go get our car from daddy's work,
so we could run errands and do stuff.

Eating a dog biscuit (it was human grade & looked like a cookie, but eew!)
at the pet store while we got the bird some things.
I took the pic to heckle him about it when he's older.
