The set consisted of a quasi-chronological display of musical raw power, ranging from material by Lydia’s classic units Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, 13.13, 8-Eyed Spy and Shotgun Wedding as well as touching on her solo debut “Queen of Siam” (ZE Records, 1980) and various other projects up to the present. The reception to these hour-long sets of bloodyminded sonic bullying was uniformly rapturous. To quote V. Vale, of RE-Search infamy: “That was the most intense show I’ve seen you do, Lydia.” Intense it was, and the smoldering intensity of that tour is trapped on this ripping new release. As one will hear on this compact disc, RETROVIRUS is a well-oiled monolith of a unit: Scathing guitar shrapnel strafing ominously massive bass slabs, hurled forward by pulverizing drum thunder and topped by Lydia’s signature perma-scowl vocals. This is no county fair cover-band – RETROVIRUS is a totally modern take on the atrocities of the past and present, devoid of simpering nostalgia, bristling with a scoriatingly modern sheen of violence and momentum. Now is the time for people to get INFECTED.

His album Brighter Day wound its way in the Top 10 singer/songwriter albums on iTunes and his fan base continues to grow each day thanks to radio support from more than 40 stations. He was also the subject of a Channel 4 TV documentary, and topped it off with a mammoth tour of over 70 Caffe Nero outlets nationwide.

In the summer of 2012, Sam has shifted to a more soulful sound. His single, ‘This Girl’ released in August, doffed its cap to classic Motown, blue-eyed soul and general good-time intelligent pop. With over a quarter of a million YouTube views, it seems the general public is loving his slight bend in musical direction. And there’s more to come. Think Otis Redding meets the more ballad-driven strains of Elvis Costello with a dash of the Style Council and you’re getting there.

Born and raised in Hull, Sam grew up playing in bands on Humberside before slowly gravitating across the M62 to Manchester, which remains his base to this day. Whilst in Manchester he was discovered by legendary drummer Steve White (Paul Weller, The Who, Oasis) who became his manager, producer and general overseer. White, along with his team secured Sam a publishing deal with Notting Hill Music and a recording contract with the Transmission Recordings label. He also got Sam in the studio with highly sought after producer, Brendan Lynch (Weller as well as Primal Scream and Ocean Colour Scene).

As well as performing and generally playing a star-in-waiting, Sam is also an accomplished writer having crafted tunes for The Voice and Hollyoaks star Abi Phillips. At the time of writing he is very much a songwriter in demand.

Sam has just finished touring with pop-giant Peter Andre on his ‘Up Close and Personal’ tour which began in mid-November and spanned over 30 dates nationwide.

Too Much Of A Good Thing was released on 4 February 2013 and followed by a single ‘One Night Stand’ on 10 February. Like ‘This Girl’, the album has definite echoes of Motown and soul, kicked through with modern textures and a contemporary feel. His recent performance on BBC Breakfast catapulted his album to #12 in the iTunes album chart. With a few exciting announcements to come and his new single ‘Hand me a Ticket’ coming out on the 24 March, 2013 looks to be a fantastic year to be Sam Gray!

Original members Adrian Holder and Rob Moore have been working on a new album with Ben Addison (Boys Wonder/Corduroy) and return to the live stage with Buddy Ascott from The Chords on drums. Come and get caught in The Moment!

Back to Zero

Hailing from Southgate in North London, Back To Zero were formed in early 1979 and quickly gained a reputation as an exciting live act. They soon signed to the fledgling Fiction label and toured with The Purple Hearts and Secret Affair on the infamous March of the Mods Tour before splitting in 1980. With original members Sam Burnett and Andy Moore, they’ve back – especially for us!

Squire

Originally formed in 1977, Squire were given a new direction when Anthony Meynell joined the following year and have remained cult favourites on the Mod scene ever since, thanks to their catchy 1960′s inspired sound. After a successful spell in the US, Meynell returned to the UK in the 1990s, headlining the 1999 Mods Mayday gig at the Forum. Today Squire remain one of the punchiest and tightest acts on the circuit.

The Aardvarks

The Aardvarks blend of 1960s Mod and psyche pop made them one of the most popular bands on the circuit during the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s and certainly the most exciting band to emerge from Ealing since The Eyes back in 1965. With a retrospective album recently released gathering their recorded output, here’s your chance to again enjoy one of the Mod scene’s best-loved live acts.

Formed in the small town of Trento, Italy in 2009 as the brain child of singer Filippo De Asmundis and bass player Michele Ceola, they set out to create a powerful fusion of rock and electronic styles to create their own unique and distinct sound. After building a strong following in Italy and sharing the stage with acts such asPlacebo and Kraftwerk, they decided to relocate to London in 2011 to pursue and realize their full potential as a band.
